We only visited for dessert "to go". Last night. The review I just read this morning about "where's the head"?, is hilarious because I asked the same question. When we asked the question, the quick witted waitress said it was in the pool! We waited patiently for our goodies to go. We were offered water. Food and service. Seated in the bar with a party of 5 people. 4 ordered drinks and the fifth was deciding what to drink, the waiter copped an attitude and came back later and rudely asked if she made up her mind yet. We ordered a calamari appetizer and a charcuterie board. Calamari was good but the board was really bad. Prosciutto was dry, thick cut and had an old stale taste to it. The salami has zero taste to it. It was not worth the 29.00 dollars. Went to the dining room and it got worse. Count get orders correct and I ordered the chili rellenos had a burnt taste and were unbearably salty. When I brought this up to the waiter he mentioned that he would bring it up to the chef. Another friend got a dinner salad with wilted lettuce and carrots for $15.00 it took 45 minutes to get our food. Sad state of affairs. I'll never darken your doors again. read more

This is the THIRD time I have had a bad experience at the Anaconda Bar. We stopped in over the weekend as my mother was in town staying at El Monte Sagrado. I sat with my husband waiting for my mother to join us. I waited 20 minutes for the bartender Paul to barely acknowledge my presence. In the time I waited, he was not busy, he walked around, spoke to other patrons, and served them....all while I waited patiently. I asked about white wine, and he scoffed and walked away. A woman approached the bar next to where I was seated and he happily served her. I am sure my irritation was visible by this time and another waiter came and provided me with a menu, by that time I was already uninterested in purchasing anything based on this bartender's dismissive and rude attitude (Again, this is the THIRD time this man has provided poor service, I have been here on a date prior with the same rudeness and with my office- where it took us nearly all night to receive our drinks and Paul was dismissive and behaved as if our presence was a nuisance) My mother joined us and we sat at lounge table, The waiter brought us menus and waters, then he disappeared for 20 minutes more, by this time we were all aggravated and decided to leave. We ended up having dinner and drinks at Sagebrush. SUPERIOR service by the staff at The Sagebrush, and live music. I will never return to Anaconda Bar, I suggest they provide some hospitality training to Paul or find a better bartender. read more

Nice, big bar inside the hotel we stayed at while in Taos. When we arrived, there was only the two of us and Bridgette served us. She was quick and efficient and very nice as well. The bar itself is large and the bar stools are leather with a nice cushion to sit on and a secure back. There are some large tables/booths to sit at as well. Everything is New Mexico styled and a large Anaconda snake twists and turns his way through the bar. There is also an aquarium featured as well. Not sure how that fits into New Mexican decor, but it was pretty. We had a little lunch and I enjoyed the turkey club while hubby decided to try the cheese/green chili enchiladas which he loved. Food was good and later we came back and we were treated to two free glasses of wine. We took these out and sat by the outdoor fireplace. Nice hotel bar and I would eat there again if I am ever back again. read more

The El Monte Sagrado Hotel is gorgeous, with architecture that honors the state of New Mexico, and the Native American legacy of the state. That's what I don't get about the Anaconda Bar. Anaconda-New Mexico-huh? What am I missing? I think Brazil, the Amazon, when I imagine an Anaconda? What does an Anaconda have to do with New Mexico? This Anaconda theme is carried out throughout the bar. The bar has a mirrored serpentine design, akin to a Chinese dragon, last seen at a Chinatown parade. A huge aquarium, filled with exotic fish, is the highlight of the interior. Anaconda is no doubt a beautiful bar, but I just don't get the Amazonian theme. Thus, I dropped a star. Drinks were good, service elegant, and having cocktails at El Monte Sagrado is special. However, I felt like I should be sitting in an elegant bar in Belem, Brazil rather than Taos, New Mexico. The fabulous architectural theme of the hotel needs to be carried out in the bar also. An architectural gestalt is important. read more

A beautiful hotel with an awesome bar, complete with a giant anaconda on the ceiling! Friendly (and good-looking) bartenders, delicious original craft cocktails (try the Wandering Monk), and really good food from the bar menu, served quickly. We watched the bartenders handle a large spillover group from a fancy wedding party; they didn't miss a beat nor neglect the regular patrons. I'm not sure I've ever left a 1 Star review before seeing as I waited tables for at least a decade or two to supplement my teaching and I totally understand getting in the weeds or the kitchen messing something up. Our waitress was awesome and super attentive, the place was funky and the food was good (even if they have no idea what Swedish meatballs taste like) and the trick was really fun. The problem was that my husband both decided to go to the bathroom between trivia rounds. When we went to wash our hands, we both waved our hands in front of the hole at the sinks and were drenched with a literal geyser that came out from the wall and shot directly at us. We were both soaking wet from our chests to our knees. We both walked out of the restroom at the same time dumbfounded but what had happened. We asked to talk to the manager and explained what happened, he acted surprised and said he would "take care of our meals" which we thought was great. As I was leaving, I left a $20 tip for the waitress and I thanked him for taking care of us and he said he just discounted our bill and i still needed to pay. When I went to pay we got $15 off 75. I have never worked at a place that would have thought $15 was appropriate for us being soaked and having to cut our night short (we were out celebrating with my mom who just ended her cancer treatment) just disappointing. read more

Folks, if you're going to name your bar after the world's biggest serpent, AND you intend to have the body slither across the ceiling, it's a huge let down if there's no head! Us: "Where's the head?" Its a nice looking lounge/bar, but when in an upscale resort, you expect a nice bartender who engages in friendly chatter...the weather...the sights.."how are you enjoying the stay" . Our bartender was cocky, flippant and not very friendly. Here are examples of his chatter : * They cut your entertainment budget so the place is "dead" since there is no live music. * They can't afford fish for the big bar aquarium and were supposed to get more fish in February but that "never happened". * Joking about all the suicides off the gorge bridge. * He told a customer next to us he had inadvertently had sex with a second cousin at a party and now it's a "family joke". He was also a smart ass to my wife about what she ordered. He was jerky to me when I ordered a salad and mac and cheese. And then he only got our food ordered when prodded by another server. read more

It's a high end hotel bar, and does everything a high end hotel bar should do well, well. The atmosphere is comfortable and a little funky (note the writhing snake belly decor overhead). The bartenders are charming, attentive, and skilled, of course, but they also go above and beyond: slipping my boyfriend free gingerale because he wasn't feeling well, digging up of a plate of chips, salsa, guac, and queso even after the kitchen closed, giving us plastic cups to take our cocktails back to our rooms. They are gems. As for the drinks, of course the bar has everything you could want and the cocktail list is just inventive enough -- you can't go too crazy when your clientele is more likely wealthy/old school, but the cucumber jalapeno margarita is spot on, not too sweet and just spicy enough. If you want a upscale, coddled drinking experience in Taos, this is your bar. read more

The atmosphere is very nice. Service is slow and many times non-existent (for example, bartender disappeared for minutes at a time). When my husband told the waitress that we were going to order food, she said "oh well someone else can help you". Maybe she was on a break. And while I am all for dogs being allowed in restaurants - allowing the dogs to lounge on the furniture is beyond the pale. We had the most expensive leftovers we've ever had. We got there at 745 and kitchen closes at 8, but we were told we could still have dinner. Ordered some steak frites medium rare. They took about 30 minutes to get our food out. Steak was over done, no pink. Fries were reheated. Overall, felt like we were having 100$ leftovers. Do not recommend for food. The bar area looked nice but we didn't really stay to have drinks given how disappointing the food was. read more

We had dinner at Anaconda for our last night in Taos and we sat at the tables behind the bar. The atmosphere was nice and quiet. The service was decent and they accommodated our special requests. The food was delicious. I had the green chili mac and chesse was so yummy! The mac and cheese was served nice and hot. My family also had the Southwest Fish N Chips and Tumbleweed Cobb Salad. The decor is the best thing about this bar. Walking around the cocktail area there are plants and trees from around the world. The fish tank is neat, right behind the bar. The snake that is featured in photos is pretty cool and unique. We had the nachos and a couple cocktails in the afternoon on a Friday. The nachos were plentiful but skimpy on the meat. And the cheese was liquid nacho cheese (a la baseball game) rather than shredded. The Cosmo I had was nothing special and I couldn't taste the champagne topper which is why I got that particular drink. Husband enjoyed his jalepeno margarita which was just the right amount of spice. Overall, it was overpriced. read more

I didn't think this place was that bad. Located in the El Monte Sacrado hotel and spa, the decor and ambiance was kind of cool, fern bar like with a giant silver anaconda wrapped around the bar. Service was pleasant and professional. We had come in late in the afternoon and were offered the bar menu by a pleasant bartender. My friend noted how she had enjoyed a really great Ruben here in the past but was dismayed that it wasn't on the menu. The bartender went back to the kitchen and came back reporting that they would be happy to make her a Ruben. The Ruben itself didn't measure up to the one of memory but the effort was very nice. I had a buffalo burger and it was good, topped with a roasted jalapeno, a nice pile of garnishes, and accompanied by parmesian dusted fries. These a nice list of wine by the glass, a tad pricy but good wines. I'm kind of surprised that the Anaconda has'nt had much attention from Yelpers but it is a bit off the main drag. It isworthy of a few blocks diversions. read more

All three servers were great and friendly....also attentive. They have a happy hour that seems too good to be true....if you like micro beers they are $3 per pint from 4-6 pm on weekdays...don't know about weekends. There are usually 5 drafts to choose from...cheap prices on quality house wine as well as hors doerves.....I'm staying here for a week, two days into it....it's a very classy place, close to trails, and downtown...and everybody seems nice. read more

We enjoyed the bar and restaurant twice during our time in Taos. The winter margaritas were fantastic- and my husband loved his perfect marg. The food was excellent- short ribs, skirt steak, burgers, enchiladas all tried and enjoyed. It's oddly named for sure but such a beautiful environment. We've had a meal and drinks at the Anaconda several times with much the same experience. It's a beautiful setting, I love this hotel. The food is generally pretty good. The drinks are good if a bit pricey for Taos. The issue is with the service. It always starts out great but by the end we've lost our waiter or waitress. There was a huge holiday party upstairs last night and the entire group came down and stood around the bar for close to an hour prior to their meal. It was pretty congested and the one waitress and two bartenders were quite busy. (I would suggest that they corral large groups to the room right behind the bar as you can't walk through the bar when there are tons of people standing there. The hotel had the lights out in the 2nd dining area behind the bar so it wasn't in use, and frankly usually isn't as they don't seem to get a lot of restaurant patrons and those are served in the 1st dining area. That room would have been perfect for kibitzing and drinking pre-party.) I had to squeeze through the people and over to the bar register to get our servers attention for a second round of drinks with our dinner. After the group was called up to their party there were only about 6 or 8 of us left in the bar, with everyone else sitting at the bar. My husband and I sat there quiet a while at our table and could see our server washing glasses and folding napkins at the far end of the bar area. This is what has literally happened almost every time we're there. They must need to set things up before they leave for the night? We're fairly early eaters and I believe it was before 8 pm so I'm not sure why all of our servers get distracted and forget that their guests haven't cashed out yet. Hopefully someone from the hotel will read this and they will try to be a bit more attentive. In general, we enjoy it there but it's always a disappointing way to end the evening, trying to get our servers attention especially when there are not many patrons left. read more

What a difference a year makes. I was here a year ago and the food was very good and I wrote about the experience. This time around there must be a new cook in the kitchen that doesn't taste what they dish out (or maybe the budget's been slashed). They've got a shrimp cocktail served with a bloody Mary mix instead of a cocktail sauce. Interesting idea but the mix is like water and adheres to the shrimp just like. So what you taste is just a piece of shrimp. The pizza, so surprisingly good a year ago, Neapolitan good, is now dough with minimal, bargain basement ingredients on top. The only thing good about it was the option of elk sausage. I had other dishes: why? Again: do they actually taste the things they decide to put on the menu? To be fair, maybe there are hidden gems here, but I don't want to pay more to find out. The wait staff continues to be exceptional however, even though they're the ones who are now tasked with serving subpar food to their customers and have to deal with the consequences. This is an exceptionally well designed bar (despite the holes in the wall and lack of a paint brush), very stylish yet comfortable. The option of outside patio seating makes the choice of where to spend your evening difficult. It's a great location for a drink; for food, not so much. read more
