Load of tech- from in home setups to IE earbuds and headphones, all of which were great to test. It's known for having many of these devices for a reason, and the workers were generally pretty nice aside from making you feel that you don't know as much as you do when you go there. I rarely post Yelp reviews, but I couldn't stay silent about the wonderful experience I had here. I've been in the audiophile Hi-Fi headphone game for about 4 years now, and I'm angry at myself for only discovering The Source AV last week. I wish I had known about them sooner. I was looking to upgrade my headphones, but it was difficult to find places to try on headphones. My previous method was buying a bunch of different headphones online, trying them out, deciding on keeping one, and returning the rest. It was a hassle and extremely time consuming. I would check online and forums to where I could try on headphones All the suggestions were always so far from where I lived or didn't have what I was looking for. Then I discovered The Source AV in Torrance. I am telling you, whether you are an audiophile or not, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. It blew my mind just how much equipment they had for you to demo. And I'm not just talking headphones, they got all kinds of equipment. From DACs to amps to speakers to full blown home theaters; from humble equipment to ultra high end they got it all. They even buy used audio equipment. The staff is also very knowledgeable and not pushy at all. William gave me a tour of the store and gave me a demo of their McIntosh reference home theater. What an experience! Wayne helped me with my headphones needs and was also very helpful helping me make the right choice. The staff is extremely patient and they will let you try out everything for hours if you need it. Audio is a very personal and subjective thing. Everybody has different tastes and different ears. Also Hi-Fi audio is not cheap. It's a big investment, so finding the right product is important. Luckily the staff knows this and will take care of you. They want to find the right product for you, not just upsell. I came last week to do some testing and get a trade in value for my Audeze LCD-X headphones. They got back to me with a quote, so I stopped in today and picked up the Focal Clear MGs. I had a really fantastic experience coming into the The Source AV as someone who is just entering into the space of audiophile headphones. Wayne was extremely knowledgable and helped guide me through many of their different offerings. He listened to my preferences and helped me zero-in on some options that suited my tastes without any pressure to purchase. I was visiting a friend living in SoCal so I wanted check out some Hi-Fi shops during my stay. Credits to Yelp, I found The Source AV. Jason took time to show me around; asked about my system (McIntosh, Focal, Cary Audio) and made me feel welcomed. The store looked immaculate, everything was hooked up and ready to audition. I've been in this hobby since my teens so I've been to many Hi-Fi stores in the last 3 decades. Often times I walk away unimpressed by the products on display or worst, by the staff. Not in this case! During my 2+ hrs. stay I did not feel judged or sold to. I was treated with respect, like an old friend visiting. There were so much high-end products to see and audition I can easily spend a full day here. Lately I have moved to headphones listening so I was happy to learn that they are updating the store to include a "headphones bar". I did not buy anything on that visit, but my experience was so positive I will pick Jason's brain again when I'm in the position to buy. I always wanted to own McIntosh equipment. The MA1200 integrated amplifier caught my attention. After reading reviews and watching videos, I knew this was the product to purchase. My friends told me if you are going to purchase McIntosh equipment there is only one place to go to and that is The Source Audio and Video Design Group in Torrance. Jason and Wayne are simply the best. Not only was my experience in their showroom exceptional, but they were also able to deliver the product within four weeks as opposed to several months quoted by other area dealerships. My primary contact was Wayne. He answered redundant questions without hesitation and frustration. He provided a switched outlet so I could connect a Bose VI equalizer that would turn on with the MA1200. He also provided information and appropriate cables for my other audio sources to be connected to the DAC. He also provided his personal cell number for assistance outside operation hours. He personally delivered the product to my residence and hooked it up. Although the outer shipping box was slightly damaged by UPS (no damage to the equipment), Jason ordered another outer shipping box from McIntosh to ensure proper packaging for safekeeping and if I ever were to ship the product to another location. A classy, considerate, and professional touch. Please note, they made me aware of the damage beforehand and I saw it was no big deal. I would not hesitate to go to The Source for future audio and video needs. Source AV is super chill! I went there with a friend and Alan helped us out. Although we didn't buy anything that day, he was really chill with us trying out their gear and also us bringing our own headphones to try with their amps. There was no pressure to buy anything, which I really appreciated. We stayed there for a while and discussed audio things and told audio stories. Later I did end up buying a Focal Clear from them at a really good deal, and it was the best buying experience I've had for audio related gear. The staff answered all my phone calls and emails promptly, and shipped out the headphone the same day so it arrived only 2 days later. These guys are great people, and will work with you to get the best deals on gear when you do want to purchase something. For several years, I have been searching for headphones that I can truly be satisfied with. This year, I got an education about headphones from a buddy and realized that I would not find what I'm looking for in a store such as Best Buy or the Apple store. I do like both of those stores by the way, but not for headphones. I went to a headphone convention and met a rep from The Source AV. I later visited the store and explained that this was my first foray into audiophile headphones and brought my mojo amp with me to do some listening tests. The rep brought me to the listening room and brought some models, that I liked at the convention. I was having a tough time making a decision. I had narrowed the field down to 3 models in my price range. The sales person didn't try to sell me anything which was nice. He just let me do my thing. I eventually went to him and told him what my finalists were. I then asked him to suggest a model I had not tried yet. He brought out a pair of Focal Clear headphones. That was the one I liked. I then met the owner. He was very cool and gave me a little break on the price. I waited a few months to make sure I really liked my purchase and I still do. I've been coming to The Source for the last year and a half for all my Hi-Fi needs, and if you live even remotely close to Torrance you owe it to yourself to check them out. This place is an audiophile's heaven! Their headphone demo room is like going to Can Jam! Focal, Audeze, Hifi-man, Mr. Speakers, ZMF, you name it and they got it, plus they have a plethora of different Amps, DACs, In-ears, and DAPs! They also have a number of impressive demo rooms for stereo systems (Sonus Faber, Focal, Mcintosh, etc). The owner Jason is one of the most genuine people I've come across when buying audio gear. I respect Jason because he doesn't try to push the most expensive thing on you, but rather he'll ask me what kind of sound signature i'm looking for and try to cater to my specific needs. Don't bother going to Best Buy's Magnolia, their selection is very limited and the salespeople at Magnolia come off as pushy (not sure if they are on commission or not, but dealing with them is like going to a used car dealership). A bit about myself first. I am a supervising sound editor for feature films. I work with sound everyday and have a trained ear. To say I am very particular about my purchases is probably an understatement. It is time to upgrade my 5.1 home AV system and I have been auditioning and researching speakers for the better part of 3 years now! That is just for the speakers! During my quest, I wanted to hear a particular brand of speaker and that was my introduction to The Source AV Design Group and one of it's owners, Jason Lord. Driving to the store the first time, I thought I might be in the wrong place since it is located in an industrial part of town and the front of the building is very unassuming. It wasn't until I walked into the showroom that I realized I had entered into some truly HI-FI nirvana!! Since I am just a sound editor and not a film producer, my sound budget is very modest and I was a bit intimidated by the quality of equipment on display. There were speakers and front end electronics on display that I have only seen in Stereo or Hometheater magazines. Then I met Jason and I sheepishly told him the ballpark of my price range and he immediately showed me various products in my range. No judgement, no get out of here because you can't afford the really pricey stuff, just down to earth friendly help. Usually when I walk into a Hi-Fi store, HDTV store, I am frustrated by the fact that the sales people are not very knowledgable. In fact most of the time, they are downright wrong!!! As I started to talk with Jason I realized... wow this guy actually knows what he is talking about. Not only that, but he actually knows more technical engineering than I do! I listened to the pair of speakers that brought me to the store in the first place and I was very impressed. We listened to many others for comparison. I have an extremely busy work schedule and this first meeting was over a year ago. During the year away, when I had time to listen I would go to other stores, etc... But my great experience at The Source AV stayed with me. In fact I would randomly email Jason with questions about his thoughts on different products I was considering and compare his thoughts based on my own real world listening experiences. Over time, what I came to realize was that Jason and I hear things in a very similar manner. He can actually walk the walk! I was always surprised when he would give good marks for a product he didn't necessarily carry in his own store. I fel this was a very honest person. So a year later and I have finally come back to the store and I am close to pulling the trigger on my modest AV upgrade. By modest I mean in comparison to doing an actual dedicated home theater. For me this a HUGE purchase and I do not part with my hard earned money lightly!! I have been working with Jason in earnest for a couple of weeks at this point, and he knows my budget and he is working to deliver the best bang for my buck. He has spent more time with my at this point via email, and coming by the house, sitting at his store, etc... than I think I could afford if he was charging my by the hour! Just a really good guy... so far! I only say "so far," since I am actively working with him right now. I will keep my experience up to date so as to give you all the most complete review of the overall experience. All I can say is so far so good! I hope this remains a 5 star recommendation!!! *** Since I have been researching speakers and audio gear for a LONG time. This is my second complete system I have purchased, I have helped my father with two complete systems, and I have helped many friends with their own systems... I have spent YEARS listening and evaluating this stuff! OK it is probably a disease, but that being said here are a few simple tips that may or may not help anyone just getting started in this stuff: *** My tip #1 to anyone looking to buy any stereo or AV system is to pick the speakers first. Then work your electronics and budget from there. A great speaker will sound good with average electronics. A crappy speaker will sound bad with exceptional electronics. *** My tip #2 Listen to what is the best speaker(s) made. Know what is technically possible, then from there work your way down to your budget. There is a point of diminishing returns, but only you can decide what the tradeoff point should be. *** My tip #3 Bring in your own music on CD. Listen to the human voice. That is one thing we all know how it should sound. If it sounds boxy, dull, too bright, etc... move on. Make sure you bring in all types of music that you listen to and know fairly well. Also bring in stuff that may not be your cup of tea, but still see if the speaker can play it well. Updates to come as my project continues...!!! read more

Ok- where to begin? Who am I in the grand scheme of things? No one. I don't exactly fit the bill for Jason's typical cliental; "someones." Regardless, Jason found me on a Mcintosh FB forum, where I was complaining about a faulty remote I got. He personally reached out to me and asked me to send the serial number of the bad product. By the time I got to the building in Torrence, Jason had already ordered the new remote, and started making the process right with Mcintosh. I hadn't even met the guy, given him payment info or ANYTHING. This is old school good service. I'm a 23 year old audio nut, and I love going into audio shops of all kinds. Today was unique- of all the places I've been to, The Audio Source AV was the business that operated at the highest level, yet treated me like I was a person. I've been to places 1/8 of the size, with 1/8 the product line who when realizing you're a poor college graduate student, don't give you the time of day. How did this have the best of both worlds???? Jason gave me a personal tour. If you've never been here, and have an idea of what you think a tour is, crumble that idea up and throw it out. There is showroom after showroom each displaying another priceless system after another. I think I said "OH SH*&" over 10 times, followed by Jason saying, "we haven't even started the tour yet." We finished the day sitting in the Mcintosh Flagship room, where Jason answered my every question, and told me stories of when he engineered for Clapton, and other heroes I have from back in the day. He has more experience in the industry than all your favorite audio shops combined. I will be back, all the time. I feel wiser for just being in the building. It's huge. It's of the highest quality. I don't think I could have had a better experience. I am so glad I went here. It was a bit of a trip for me, but worth the drive above and beyond. I'll certainly be back. When I send an e-mail question, I get a response in short order. Professionalism, customer service and knowledge are the order of the day. Alan was extremely helpful, and treated me with an uncommon dedication and detail. He even gave me a personal tour of the facility. Eventually I spared him from having to spend the whole day with me, which I might easily have done. I have recently been getting more into HiFi, and I was able to come here and compare a bunch of headphones with whatever gear I wanted, ask a bunch of questions, get advice, and learn quite a bit. I never felt rushed, and when I wanted to listen to the cans, I was given the time and space to do so without interruption. I also never felt like I was being pressured into purchasing something, and to say I wasn't upsold would be an understatement. When I needed help, I got it; when I didn't, I didn't. I walked out with what I wanted and needed, and nothing more, but didn't feel like I was pressed to make a purchase. I recommend avoiding. They participate on an audio forum I'm a member of and told me to send them an email about purchasing an upcoming headphone. I both emailed them as well as messaged them on the forum and after replying that they got my email and are looking into it, they then ignored me and never replied further. I've taken a few trips here and one thing you'll notice about Jason is that he's really passionate about AV. His knowledge far surpasses many so-called "experts" I've spoken to at other shops. One shop even told me "If you try it here, you better buy it here." Seriously. I never felt like he was selling me something I didn't need or want. If anything he and his crew went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed to properly evaluate the gear. Tell him what you like and he or his friendly staff will direct you to the products most aligned with your needs. Wayne helped me out with a few cables and that guy was very attentive and helpful. I've never had that level of customer service at any audio shop. Period. Case in point, many of the other dealers out there will be your best friend until something goes wrong. I purchased a very expensive headphone from Jason and found a defect. Given the experience I've had with other dealer I felt a bit sick to my stomach. I called up Jason and he replaced that headphone the next day. He didn't redirect me to the manufacture or give me the runaround. He made sure I was happy. That was his priority. This place is amazing. They specialize in high-end stereo equipment, so I didn't know if I should go since all I was shopping for was a pair of earbuds. (But I'd checked them out online, so I knew they at least do sell earbuds.) Best Buy offers zero service, and you can't try on earbuds there anyway. Amazon was out for the same reason. So I go into The Source and am immediately in awe of all the fancy systems on display and am impressed by how quiet it is--no blasting speakers like at Frye's. I didn't see any sales people, so I just wandered around for a few minutes until someone appeared from behind a door. He was no nice. I told him my price range and taste in sound, and he knew just what to show me. They have test headphones and earbuds that you can listen to, and a huge selection. He brought me two pairs, one of which I really liked. But then when I asked about other types of sound, just thinking he'd give me his opinion, he offered to show me several other models, including one pair costing $1,000, just so I could learn. He didn't expect me to spend $1,000. He was just being generous with his time and seemed to really enjoy sharing his knowledge. I ended up buying the first pair, and because it's not a current model (who cares???), he gave me a really good price, something else I didn't expect. read more

I used to live near Torrance many years ago before I got into high-end audio and regretfully never got a chance to visit. But as luck would have it I was recently vacationing in Southern California and had a free day to make the trip out to The Source AV. Best decision I made. Over the last year or so I have become a big headphone geek and am very active in the headphone community. I heard about this store and knew I needed to see it myself whenever I could. I called ahead to make sure the headphone area would be available and spoke to Alan, who was very helpful and encouraged me to come by. Upon arriving I was personally greeted and helped by Alan and was amazed by the amount of AV rooms and gear they had. The headphone area is massive and by far the largest I have ever seen in a store. They have pretty much every single high end headphone available including the rare ones (e.g. Utopia, LCD-4, SR-009, HE-1000v2, etc) and just as impressive is their collection of DACs and amps. When auditioning you are free to grab any headphone off the wall, use any compatible cable, take it to any DAC and amp combo you choose and just listen in a quiet environment with your own music. Both Alan and Jason would be around for questions and help, but never pushy about trying to get you to buy something. They are both very knowledgeable about the equipment and both active in the headphone community as well. We had a great time just chatting about gear and impressions when I was done auditioning. What I also appreciate is that they are willing to make deals on gear that aren't discounted anywhere else. They even discount newly released products that you can't even find on the used market, which was really great to see. Overall, it was a great experience, I'm happy to recommend this store to any headphone enthusiasts and I will absolutely plan on visiting them more in the future when I am in the area. read more

FOLLOW-UP (4/2019): The Source AV reply from 5/18 is totally false AND misleading! Source AV is trying to relieve themselves of their awful treatment of us and attempting to do so by blaming us! Awful! I cannot believe that rather than a simple apology, they are trying misinformation tactics and such that they are here-in! To correct/clear things up: First, Source AV is trying to claim we went to Magnolia AV! We didn't! Source AV is referring to our review here from 2011 of Magnolia AV as if, we went to Magnolia AV after we decided against using Source AV. That is false. Our review of Magnolia AV was from 2011. It as 2015 when we had our awful experience with Source AV. Second, in lieu of Source AV, we chose another independent, high-end, Mcintosh dealer in LA as our choice for our business. We did NOT share our experience with this Mcintosh dealer who did give our business to since we didn't care for any additional drama but we can attest to the fact that, now 3-4 years later, we would highly recommend that dealer we chose in lieu of Source AV. We have found our dealer of past 3-4 years, much more knowledgeable, much more efficient, and totally respectable in how they treat us. We have given our business to (upwards of $200k by now) to our dealer (not Source AV) and will do more in the future. Also, we have referred our dealer 3-4 more friends and they all have similarly positive experience as us. We strongly suggest reading other reviews of Source AV here as you will see other examples of Source AV's negative attitude. Additionally we would suggest not getting wow'd by Source AV's (Jason Lord's) salesmanship and ability to talk a good talk. Source AV should learn how to be more appropriate and responsible for having mistreated, at least us (and I suspect more/other potential buyers) and man up to their imperfection. read more

Jason spent a lot of time with me about what I wanted in my system and how best to design what I needed. He took into account the size and acoustical environment of my room to help best select the appropriate equipment for me. The Source uses first rate equipment and customizes the experience for your needs and home. The install is clean, quick, and very professional. I was welcomed to attentive service, knowledgeable staff, and one of the many showroom with more headphones than I'd ever dream to own! I spent over three hours asking questions, testing headphones, and enjoying the atmosphere (with a complimentary beverage while I was auditioning headphones). It is difficult finding a place to purchase high end audio/video equipment with honesty, care, and great service. I recently fired my guy I used to work with for all my HIFI for catching him in being dishonest and deceptive. I was on the hunt for a Simaudio Neo 430ha headphone amp and went to Simaudio's website in search for an authorized dealer. I started going down the list calling to find someone who had one in stock. I even sent emails to people who did not answer. To sum it up, the people that I spoke to or emailed were not friendly and came off a bit snobby. The worst is when they don't call you back. One quick story...I was calling around looking to purchase a Revel Salon2 and I was amazed by the lack of customer service. You would except top notch service when looking into speakers of this price. Half the salesman never returned my call when they were supposed when checking to see if the item was available. No follow up calls either. I eventually came across The Source AV Design on Simaudio's authorized dealer list. I called and left my number for a sale rep to call me back. Jason ended calling me back within the hour and we had a two hour conversation about home audio. He spent two hours with me to learn about me and allow me to learn about him and his background and business. No one else I got in touch before with was willing to take the time to really understand my needs and wants. I have to say, I was very impressed. Of course I have never done business with Jason before so I was a little guarded. Especially feeling like people in this industry can be rude and dishonest. I decided to take the plunge and purchased the Simaudio from Jason. His brother Steven is the money man and he took care of me as well. Both were very kind and I never felt rushed. Steven is also a gentleman like his brother. The transaction went smooth and I received my Simaudio super fast. I was so surprised how fast the it arrived. I am used to high end dealers dragging there feet and taking there sweet time to ship. I thought it was going to take a week or two before I would see it. Thats the way I was treated by my previous dealer and he would always have good excuses why there was a long delay. Jason followed up with me each day to see if I have received my Simaudio. Apparently, I was supposed to receive it even sooner and Jason went out of his way contacted Simaudio to correct that mistake. To sum it up Jason really cares about his clients. He provides a red carpet experience the is a huge leap above the competition. I definitely plan on doing more business with him. I finally found someone I can trust and who has my back and not the other way around where they care more about their relationship with the manufacturers. Jason has even followed up after the purchase to see how my headphone amp was working out for me. I have never had anyone follow up on a purchase before to see if I was satisfied in a very long time and especially not in this industry. Wow I am just impressed by the service Jason and his team provide. On a side note: I have no reason to believe Jason or anyone at his store is racist. I was really surprise to see that on one of the reviews. I am a Korean American and never once did I get that sort of impression from Jason. I would never do business with anyone who is. With that said, I am thankful that I finally found a company that cares and provides excellent service above and beyond my expectations. I am already planning another major purchase with Jason. Great staff and listening room, many different speaker options and amps, Dacs, pre-amps to choose from. Staff is very laid back and not salesy at all. I really enjoyed coming hear and i hope this place continues to grow and showcase more amazing gear. read more

I have been building instruments for close to 40 years and selling instrument wood for over 50 years, to say that music is a passion would be an understatement. I had the good fortune to come to The Source to look/listen to some audiophile gear. The staff, Jason, Peter, Wayne and Allen all shared the same passion I had for music.
