While Anamika delivers beautiful makeup, this two star review is due to (1) poor communication throughout the weeks before the wedding, (2) lack of flexibility with natural hair, (3) being late on the wedding morning and not bringing tools for the reception look. 1. Communication - I don't live in the Bay Area so I reached out to Anamika a couple months before the wedding to plan a trip around the time she would be free for a trial. She didn't respond for two weeks, and only finally responded when our wedding planner stepped in. I had booked with her 10 months before the wedding at which time the communication was fine - after giving the deposit (50% of service so 1000$) she was unresponsive. 2. I have very curly hair that takes quite some time to straiten and usually is frizzy when straitened. I explained this to Anamika when booking and she said it was fine as long as I tried my best and it was clear that I had gone through all of my hair with a strait iron before she arrived. At the trial she looked at my hair and asked me if I had read the contract, that she required very straight hair. I explained that this is the best that I could do. I would be fine to just go for a natural style or something else that would take less time if this didn't work for her. I showed her my hair in natural curls and said that we could just arrange the hair without heat styling - whatever is easiest. In the end I felt shamed for my natural hair and she put such little effort into it during the trial. At one point, I even asked her if - given that she was uncomfortable with my hair, we could cancel the contract, but she refused. I actually got 2 Brazillian blowouts before the wedding to make my hair fair enough and purchased an additional set of extensions at another length to be easier to blend. 3. On the wedding morning Anamika was about 20 minutes late to start with hair and makeup. We actually ran behind schedule for my sari draping, and the sari draper had to make other accommodations as she would be late for her next appointment if she waited for me. For the reception look, I had e-mailed her saying I wanted to do crimped hair and she replied that as long as my hair was strait it would be fine. My hair was strait (helped along by the two chemical Brazilian treatments) but she simply said she didn't bring her crimping tools and proceeded to do a typical blowout look with extensions. read more

Wouldn't recommend her at all. I wish I saw this Yelp page of her before I booked with her she is horrible at communication. I posted on a Facebook group after sending her a few emails after booking with her months ago but she didn't respond until someone sent her my post about my feelings of not getting a response from her for over a week! She also was posting nonstop on social media and me being ignored felt like I wasn't even a priority. I thought she understood where I was coming from especially about communication because I dealt with someone before her who just simply did not care either but I guess I was wrong. I felt as if she used my money for her fees and that's the main thing that caught her attention. Sorry but that's how it felt and the fact that she didn't even apologize for making me feel this type of way and made it feel like I was overreacting, I just simply asked for my money back. I wouldn't book with her if you want someone who can communicate with you and not feel like you're a burden. Now I'm struggling to find someone else to do my wedding makeup that's in 3.5 months. It honestly sucks because I thought she was a sweet girl with good intentions but she's the opposite of what she portrays on social media. I was super hesitant on even posting this because I'm not the type to be so confrontational but I needed to warn anyone who wants to book with her, to not do it. Find someone else she says social media is her job which I get but not responding for over a week? Sorry but my sister who has a small business herself said she'd never make a client feel this type of way and she and a few others are super upset at how this situation was handled. You would think her clients would be a somewhat priority since her fan base is what got her to where she is now but she does not care. I was a fan of hers but not anymore after this situation. This whole thing caused me so much anxiety and stress so please do not book with her. read more

Anamika has been such an amazing person to work with both personally, and professionally for my business. She's done my hair and make up on countless occasions, her work is very clean and the best part is she listens! I told her what I like, don't like and she's always done her best to accommodate. I worked with Anamika for hundreds of photo shoots, and she has always been very professional- punctual, amazing make up / hair, and always so excited to work. Just like most business owners, she's doing everything on her own so from experience I know it can get hard to constantly reply back to people etc. but I can stand behind the fact that she'll never let you down, and she'll be the sweetest person you'd work with. This is for my graduation photoshoot makeup, which she did for me in 2019. I went to her for hair & makeup. My hair was 90% dry, and she refused to style it, saying she didn't want to burn it. I don't understand why she couldn't just blow-dry and style it. So I had to go to my photoshoot with curly unstyled hair, very frustrating when I look back and see my pictures. When I was searching for a makeup artist, Anamika definitely stands out. Her work looks so good! When I first sent my inquiry, she messaged me back right away and we kind of went back-and-forth about pricing and other details that same day. When it came down to the contract, she basically went mia and ghosted me. She would respond back once a week or biweekly. She said our email thread went to her spam folder and then she became unavailable for the time I had initially requested. It was kind've a waste of time to even inquire. She was so incredibly patient with me through my entire wedding planning process. I booked like 3 trials, 1 photoshoot, and 2 wedding looks with her and I can honestly say I was so so happy with all of my looks. She did such a fabulous job of customizing my looks into whatever I exactly wanted. She even learned the specific hairstyle that I had wanted (a traditional South Indian braid! The following weeks before my wedding, the communication was extremely poor. She never got to me until the night before at almost midnight, hours before she was scheduled. Ok I don't know where to start I just hope whoever is about to book her next sees my review if I knew she had a yelp page I would have never booked her I booked her sent my deposit about 10 months ago I kept telling my parents to set a date so I can have everything done! She never replies I sent her a 1300 deposit. She now tells me 2 weeks prior to my wedding she just cancels you and tells you she got the wrong date at her end even tho the date and The time on the contract is right. She cancels me 2 weeks prior to my freaking wedding and now I just found out she does that to a lot of girls imagine being stressed out right before your wedding I had my shoot the next day and I am so stressed out I haven't even found anyone to do my reception make up I do not recommend her to anyone please be careful future brides! I would definitely recommend Anamika's hair and makeup services for any formal event! She did my hair and makeup for all of my Indian Wedding events - Sangeet, Wedding, and Reception and I got so many compliments on it! All my friends and family loved everything from the old Bollywood glam that she did for my Sangeet, to the traditional South Indian hair and makeup for the ceremony, to the classic Hollywood waves she did for my Reception! In terms of deciding on the looks, she was accommodating to the looks I wanted for each event and somehow made it work even with the tight timelines. I was really disappointed by the lack of communication and poor service by Anamika. I had booked her for my sister and she confirmed via message and said that she will send me the final contract but I never heard back from her.. despite multiple attempts to reach her. She really left me hanging in a tough spot looking for an artist last minute esp during Coovid. I am a believer in giving people chances but this time I was really really disappointed. I booked Anamika for all of my wedding events with NO regrets!!! She was kind, patient, fun, and really listens to what you want and makes it happen! This girl is skilled - I found various looks for various days and there isn't a single one she didn't nail right away. She is gentle with her suggestions and her advice is good. I loved her energy - not only do you want to hire someone skilled on your wedding day but you want someone kind who makes you comfortable. She also has a fun playlist and helps keep the mood light. This is so long overdue......but I'm so super glad I had Anamika do my hair for my wedding day and reception. Anamika also did Hair and makeup on both my mom and sister in my wedding. She is a super easy going and has such a fun personality. She was easy to talk to. I had a different makeup person and Anamika worked great with her. She was accommodating to changes in my schedule and took her time with my hair. I usually can't get any hairstyle to last more then an hour as I will be constantly touching my hair but my reception hair was perfect the whole night. My wedding day we did a simple sleek bun but the weight of my dupatta was on the bun all day long, and the bun didn't shift! If you are looking for a great Makeup and hair stylist I would definitely recommend Anamika. I can't wait for another event to come up where I can get her to come doll me up again!
