Wow. Maybe they're just having an off day? We ordered mushroom muttar and dahl makhni and they weren't very good. It's hard to mess up vegetarian indian food, and the basic ingredients are fine, they're just boring. Like no spice. Not just mild, but seemingly unflavored. The peas tasted good, but it's surprising that I could taste them so well in a curry. The rice is good, and the naan is good. We're still on the hunt for a super cheesy cheese naan but this one is pretty good. I would probably come back and try some vindaloo or something spicier here. I really wanted to like this place, I miss good Indian food. I went in once with friends and the food was ok, but then I got delivery and it was inedible. Worse than the food, was how little they cared. Aloo papri - this is a chick pea and potato dish with crispy bread, tamarind and yogurt sauce...only they don't tell you in the seamless menu that there's crispy bread, so all of a sudden I chomped into petrified mystery food. Unfortunately they overcooked the crispy bread and I chipped a tooth. I called to let them know, but they treated me like a silly woman and talked over me. "what's the name of the dish" he asked. "it's the chickpea and potato dish" I said. "we don't have anything like that" he said. "well I'm looking at it, it's chickpeas and potatoes and some sauces drizzled on the top." I said "if you don't know the name of the dish, then how can you know anything" he said...I got pissed and as soon as I started yelling at him he says "oh that's the chickpea and potato dish with crispy bread." Thanks, bro. I just said that. So he cuts me off again and says "so what do you want from me?" I said I wanted a refund. he said that I had only told him about one of the dishes, I said that he cut me off before I could talk about the other dishes. "I am happy to talk to you about them." I said but He says he's too busy working to listen to me. Aloo saag- it tastes like maybe they burnt the garlic. But to the point where it overpowered the dish and I love garlic but this was comical. I will say, the spinach was green and to have color in your saag is a good sign! Still, it was slimy and not delicious. Vegetable korma - like others have said in their reviews it's a tragically under-spiced korma. And I'm white, so for me to think something is under-spiced is saying something. Lamb Rogan Jose - actually I've heard this dish called Rogan Josh, either way, it was delightful. When I called to ask for a refund I asked that they refund me all the dishes except the lamb. They laughed at me. I'm a business owner in this neighborhood so it sucks when you take the time to put effort into community, give feedback instead of writing a shitty review on yelp (you know, give the business a chance to make it right) and they treat you with the bloated aloofness only middle aged men can provide. I offered to pack everything up and send it back. I offered to give them feedback, I even offered them an out by saying maybe they had a new person cooking tonight, but they said they've been there for 80 years cooking the same dishes. BEWARE!!! If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. One of the meat dishes that we ordered was full of rice at the bottom as if it came from someone's leftovers. When we called to complain, the person who answered the phone was extremely nasty and didn't even want to hear what we had to say. I would caution anyone who wants to order food from this restaurant. Thankfully, I was able to leave work early a few days later and called up to confirm the lunch special, running until 2/2:30PM. True to the advert, everything {excluding my mango lassi, to my chagrin} was half off! While the mango lassi wasn't creamy enough for my liking, the samosa was your usual bundle of fried tastiness, and the entrees reminded me of my time abroad in the Middle-East when I'd eat Indian every other day. I got the lamb biriyani and the chicken malakhani {butter chicken} and both had the range!!! They tasted authentic and were spiced JUST right - though I was a bit disappointed the biriyani didn't have raisins in it. I can't believe this little Indian place that is actually 'nearish' to where I live delivers all the way to Prospect Heights. That is pretty remarkable. This guy took his bike clearly across the entire park for us. Second, I'm testing my heat tolerance for the Bricklane Phaal challenge. It's inevitable it has to happen. I'm fully confident that I can achieve the 'getting your name on a certificate and free beer' hottest curry in New York challenge. But mostly I "have" to do it because my ex threw up the 2 times he attempted and didn't even half finish. My friend and I split an order of the chicken vindaloo. The special also came with an appetizer, basmati rice, and naan. The vindaloo was adequate spicy. Some places piss around with their heat level but this honestly was just the right amount without having to wash it down with copious amounts of wine or *cough* water. It had a kick to it. It also has interesting things in it like chunks of tomato and potato that I was not fully expecting. The naan was delicious as were the samosas. The weirdest thing we ordered by far was the crab cake with spicy mango. It kind of looks like a piece of naan bread with pulled crab meat piled on top. I'm not sure what to say about it or how to feel but it is not a crab cake and not the best. Stick to the regulars. I approve of this place though and the prices were pretty affordable. read more

I love this place. This is easily our go-to for Indian food, we come here all the time. My absolute favorite is the Chicken Biryani, I've never had the dish cooked this way. It's PACKED with vegetables and delicious spices. All the food here is so packed with vegetables and delicious flavors that even my boyfriend likes to order from here (he typically doesn't love Indian food). If I could give 1 star, I would. My food was delivered ONE HOUR late. There was no apology, discount or acknowledgement from the restaurant. I got in contact with GrubHub immediately (where I originally ordered the food from) & the associate that was helping me even said herself that the restaurant was rude to her and kept hanging up the phone. This establishment is unprofessional and irresponsible. This type of behavior is inexcusable. When the food was finally delivered, I asked the delivery man what time he left the restaurant & he said "10 mins ago" meanwhile I called the restaurant at the original time the food was to be delivered and I was told that the food is leaving as we were speaking. On top of all of this, the restaurant forgot one of my items from the order. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again & I do not recommend you to either. I'm reviewing based on my delivery experience. Ordered on a Sunday at an off time (4pm) and had no issues with timeliness/cold food as others have reported. Food arrived before the estimated time and was so hot I had to let it sit before I could eat it. Taste wise, Onion stuffed naan was delicious and fluffy, but the other items I ordered were just ok. Lamb kabab appetizer and chana saag entrée were well seasoned but both overcooked (tough lamb, mushy chickpeas). Basmati rice was perfectly cooked but sooo bland. I've been lucky to live near two great Indian restaurants in the past (Diwan in Port Washington, and Asya in Brooklyn Heights) and am mostly comparing to experiences I've had there. I may order again in a pinch, but I'm hoping I can find my go-to Indian restaurant somewhere else in the neighborhood. read more

Hands down one of the oddest ordering experiences ever. 20 minutes after the delivery estimate, I called and was told the delivery person left and would be there in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later I called again. They couldn't tell me when the delivery person left but would be there in 5 more minutes. After 10 more minutes, I contacted Grubhub about a refund. Grubhub called the restaurant, who lied and said the food was delivered. Grubhub refunded me. 15 minutes later, a delivery person arrived at my home without the food, asking if my food was delivered. I said it wasn't and he said some other guy was supposed to have delivered it. He then told me the food was still coming but I explained I canceled and said goodbye. An hour later, another delivery guy arrives with the food. I'm bewildered. read more

Low quality ingredients compared to most Indian food. chicken tikka masala sauce was too runny and not flavorful. Same goes for the Sag paneer, including the awful cheese cubes. Samosas were too oily and not fresh. Chef needs to take more pride and love in their food. Delivery via Seamless took almost 1 hr and we are only a 7 min walk from the restaurant (not sure if this is Seamless' fault or the restaurant's). Anarkali is one of my go-to places and never disappoints. I've dined in the restaurant and had food delivered, and the food is always fresh and delicious. They have a wide selection of appetizers and entrees including lots of curries, kabobs and vegetarian choices. I love the salmon curry and the lamb sagwala. The channa saag and roasted eggplant with onions and peas are my favorites from their vegetarian menu. The restaurant is a pleasure - tablecloths, quiet music, discreet and prompt service. I take visitors there frequently, as it offers the opportunity to have a normal conversation in a comfortable setting over fabulous food - and all that at reasonable prices. read more

I had food from this restaurant before and food was average but service is horrible. Multiple times they forget to put utensils. Tonight I ordered from them at 7:30pm on seamless and because they didn't deliver yet, I called them at 9:15pm and was told super busy tonight and would take half an hour. After half an hour I called back and all I got were busy signal. Food was never delivered. I called seamless to get a refund but now stuck with no food for the night. So angry. Will never order from this place again. Update: they finally attempt to deliver the food at 11:45pm for the food I ordered at 7:30pm. When I told the delivery guy that I don't want the food anymore because I already canceled the order with seamless, the guy got angry with me and started yelling at me saying how can I do that etc., etc. Definitely would not order from this place ever again. read more

I ordered lamb korma because it is cramy and NOT spicy - (i can't have spice) I don't know what happened but I got lamb in brown curry and it was spicy :( I could only have a few bites. The samosas were eh, also spicy and were brown inside....but it was a veggie samosa. That weirded me out a bit. Pakora was actually quite good. Naan and rice was fine. Overall, I was just very disappointed in the korma...korma is supposed to be a yellow-ish color with almonds/fruit. It's 100% supposed to be mild. First time we ordered from them everything was great from the vegetarian dish to the chicken Tikka masala. I called to verify about the different allergies we have and special requests and the guy on the phone was so nice. They are 30 minutes away bit they still delivered to my house it took a little over an hour from the time we placed our online order. Yesterday I ordered again and got chicken tika masala but ended up with a watered down butter chicken instead. Not so happy about it this time. I guess not every order can be a win. Nasty people. I've ordered their canned chicken tiki Marsala more than once, the website wasn't working so I called to tell them and they were annoyed and demanded to know what I wanted. So I tried to order over the phone but no one spoke English well enough to take my order and credit card number. I understand that sometimes there's a language barrier but there's never a need to be as nasty as these people are especially to a repeated customer I will never order from this place again the food was mediocre at best but I tend to be loyal. I live in Midwood and find it hard to find a decent restaurant to deliver to us. The man Sophie who answers the phone is such a gentlemen. My whole family loves This place!! The food is delicious: (Chana Saag/chicken tikka massala and garlic Naan) and we have only ordered for delivery even though we hope to sit down in the near future. I always call them directly and don't go through third party like seamless or grub hub bc of previous reviews stating it took a long time....The food is delivered fast and hot. This is a new place, so I will give them some room to improve. Food was good. Service was friendly, but it seems like they have a big delivery business, which made it (at least on night we were there) a distracting place to have a sit-down meal. The music kind of came on and off, and the phone rang a lot, and there was only one person at the front of the house. Get another staff person, and this place is going in the right direction. Anarkali is above average for a neighborhood Indian restaurant, and the only good one I've found in the Ditmas Park area. I've eaten in the dining room and had delivery ... the food was excellent both times. The dining room is usually empty when I walk by so I worry about them. They must do a good delivery business. But still. Get off the couch once in a while and eat here. Make sure they stay in the neighborhood. Don't let them be lonely. Edited to add: Hey, Anarkali! You might think about getting some kind of computer, so people who order from you every week (I'm not naming names) don't have to give you their address, phone number, cross street, special instructions etc. every single time. Guys! I've gotten takeout from here at least 10 times now and just noticed that I've never reviewed Anarkali before. Well, now's the time to tell you all that my friend and I love it and continue to go back because the food is great and so decently priced. My friend always gets the same dish, but every time I try a new one, it's always a good choice. It always seems so empty inside the restaurant, so I hope they're getting a lot of business from takeout. It's a very nice (albeit small) interior, so I hope it fills up more! The servers are also very nice every time we pickup. If we order an hour ahead of time, the food is still hot and the naan fresh. Give them a try! read more

And I'm sorry but that is just unacceptable. $35 worth of food largely uneaten and thrown away, what a waste.
