Tikka Indian Grill in Park Slope Brooklyn
    Marie S.

Tikka Indian Grill in Brooklyn tonight. Many great reviews online and some not so great. I decided to give it a try. Also, it was late so I did a takeout/pickup order. Compared to Manhattan's Indian restaurants, I've yet to find a really great Indian restaurant in this part of Brooklyn. Across the river, there are tons of great Indian restaurants that offer high quality authentic food. (Brooklyn has a few too.) Tikka Grill offers good Indian but the rice portion was small for a full price dinner meal. Also, the rice was packaged in a small plastic container. After trying some, I noticed that the rice had an odd taste. I ended up tossing it out & using some of my own stuff at home. Packaging is important. Many restaurants deliver their food in aluminum containers with a plastic lid. If you research this topic, there's been much discussion over the health safety implications related to the use of aluminum containers as well as the advantages & disadvantages of using aluminum vs plastic. If you're curious, suggest looking into it - it makes for an interesting read. Back to the food now... Chicken Tikka Masala and plain nan - my main meal was good. Very mild creamy sauce. Fluffy nan bread. Overall the food was fine, except for the rice. Maybe it was just a bad batch. May try again on a different day.

Ordered takeout from this place so I can't speak for the service or ambience but the food is delicious! The chicken chop with lemon rice is so damn good. The chicken is so juicy and flavored with five spices. The lemon rice has the perfect hint of tartness to cut the richness of the chicken. The yellow daal tadka was good but I've had better. I think a particular spice was overpowering all the other flavors but I can't pinpoint the spice. Maybe too much cardamom? I also got a cheese naan which was good- I ripped a chunk out of it before I could get a picture lol so just trust me.

Local Indian restaurant with numerous locations. We tried a variety of things but my favorite is the shrimp Tikka masala and paratha bread.

A delicious and fun time at tikka Marsala on 5th Ave near between 6th and 7th street - place was empty this Wednesday evening we decided to check it out! Our meal was delicious and you can bring your own wine! Even though it was empty they do a brisk take out business - we loved our meals and the large screen television played Bollywood videos! We really enjoyed them and our waiter Mohammed took great care of us and even educated us a bit about Bollywood ! My partner had a spicy shrimp dish and I had vegetable soup and pepper chicken - we asked for mildly spiced - and for dessert we had an Indian version of rice pudding that tasted like so much delicious fresh lemon in it! We loved our meals and our waiter. Prices are reasonable and we loved that we could bring our own wine! Oh and the rosemary naan was tasty also!

Loved it! Was walking by in the neighborhood hungry and decided to give it a try here. We came during lunch, sadly the tandoor oven wasn't working so wasn't able to try any Naan or other tandoori items. But the food we did have was excellent. Oh boy do they know there spice. We asked for the lamb and chicken vindaloo extra spicy, they didn't hold back! Rarely does a vindaloo pack a punch even though always advertised as "spicy". The biryani was flavorful as well and the Mango lassi was probably one of the best ones I've had in recent years. I'll definitely be back to try some other items!

Every once in a while, the crap show that is 2020 tosses me some pleasant surprises to underscore the existence of silver linings. Tikka Indian Grill (a.k.a. my delivery savior) is one of those rare and wonderful treasures. It's become my favorite Indian restaurant in the area, and maybe even in general. The food has some actual spice; just enough for me to enjoy the burn without showing off how much of a spice wimp I actually am in the grand scheme of things. I'm basic, so my go-to is saag paneer, and their version tastes so fresh and flavorful. Another must-order is the samosa chaat, which is a total flavor and texture bomb: it's the perfect blend of savory, sweet, and tart, and mashed up yet slightly crunchy samosas. Their butter chicken is great, I enjoyed their black pepper chicken (it's a little spicier than I'd like but quite good), along with the methi mattar paneer, which had a deep onion-y flavor. The pumpkin kala chana is a very flavorful and light vegan dish. The chicken tikka masala isn't quite as rich and tomato-y as I'd like, but it's still tasty. If you're craving a base besides rice, get the naan and/or paratha. The achar (mixed pickles) is really tangy and zingy if that's your kind of thing. I'd skip the kheer (rice pudding). It had an odd aftertaste that I didn't really enjoy. Tikka Indian Grill is a little pricier than your usual casual Indian restaurant, but I think it's totally worth it for the quality of their food.

We ordered food for my bestie here just as the world was slowly starting to reopen from its covid lockdown. We entered with masks, placed the order and waited outside for about twenty minutes. Fresh food yaaaaaay! It was also nice perusing this busy shopping and restaurant street while we waited. Tikka was clean. Staff was pleasant and appreciative for our business. No dining was allowed inside of course but they take delivery orders. (Check out their cute delivery mopeds in my pics) My bestie said his food was good. Much thanks to Tikka Indian Grill! The End.

So good! I've eaten a substantial amount of chicken tikka masalas and this one hit DIFFERENT. So creamy and delicious with large portions! The garlic naan was my only caveat it wasn't buttery and garlicky enough for my liking. Otherwise the food was great!

Food was good, service great, nice little spot! The food was very tasty. We asked for spicy and it didn't disappoint! I recommend the lamb Chops which was cooked to perfection.

We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Having met the owner before in Industry City, it's great to see her doing well in Carroll Gardens, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

The decor and vibe of this place is so vibrant and beautiful, it instantly puts you in a good mood. I came here for a solo dinner during restaurant week which was a pretty good deal. Most of the patrons seem like they were neighborhood locals which I love to see. I would say based on the flavors and the people dining here that this restaurant is more of a gentrified desi place than authentic. I found the flavors in most of the items I tried lacking. The fuchka prepared tableside is a nice touch, but again the marketing is geared more towards non-desi patrons. The fish fry was delicious and a good portion but more like a good British fish n chips cod filet than a desi fish fry with proper spices. Even the mustard served on the side was awfully bland with no spice whatsoever. While I can still appreciate the flavors, I will always be disappointed when an establishment trades authenticity to serve and coddle palettes that do not appreciate proper desi food. The lamb curry was very very good, and I specifically asked for it to be made spicy. Dining here felt like invading a curated space for non Indians, so I unapologetically ate the curry and rice with my hands to remind myself that yes, this is still our food even if it's muted. To the owners I say - do better and do not shy away from authentic flavors. This is afterall, New York freaking City. We are allowed to show up and showcase our cuisine with full masala, full spice and full heat - just the way God intended it to be.

Since then, we've dined in, and taken out, and the food has been unfailingly delicious. If you can swing it, dining in is always the move. Unlike the aforementioned sushi joint, Dastaan has decorated to make the small space much more colorful, and infinitely more welcoming. It seems to be a family business, judging by the somewhat surly (teenage?) waitress, but she was still there for anything we needed. Plus, you'll get some complimentary papadum with homemade tamarind and green sauce. But either way, the food will be good. The naan is fresh and fluffy, the poori is delightful (this airy goodness is dine-in only, I'd imagine), the lasuni gobi starter is one of my favorite things, and the curries are all deeply rich and flavorful. We've had korma, bhuna, and saag, with seafood or chicken or paneer or lamb. We've of course had chicken tikka masala and butter chicken (I'd prefer dark meat in the latter for taste and juiciness, but I imagine I'm in the minority). All of it has been super, super tasty. One of my kids is coming around to the fact that Indian food can be amazing, the other will only eat rice and mango lassi. But Dastaan gives me hope that some day they'll crave it like I do. We ordered the sweet and sour eggplant as an appetizer and struggled over decision paralysis before settling on chicken tikka masala and a mango lassi for her and lamb vindaloo for me, plus a bread basket. Our waitress, seemingly oblivious to the notion of profit, warned us we were ordering too much bread before saying, "You could always bring some home," and explaining that the bread basket would consist of our choice of four different naan. More decision paralysis! We picked plain, garlic, onion, and peshwari naan. The eggplant was good, breaded and fried and served with cilantro and tamarind chutneys. Our entrees came out soon after we finished. My girlfriend enjoyed her chicken, and my lamb was tender and spicy without being overwhelmingly so. Each entree was accompanied by a portion of basmati jeera, and the rice was perfectly cooked. The naan were all good, and my girlfriend and I both agreed the peshwari naan was the winner of the pack. The sweet, nutty bread complimented and contrasted the spicy curry of my lamb vindaloo, and my "best bite" was mopping up some of the sauce with it. Sure enough, we had leftovers both of our entrees and 3/4 pieces of naan (two guesses as to which got eaten on the spot), and lunch the next day was delicious. Stumbling distance from the 7 Ave F/G.
