Had reservation for 7pm but we arrived early and our table was ready for sudden stop at 6pm. Apparently the earlier reservation canceled, so it was a luck~ seems like it's mostly a place with many reservations. This restaurant is in the back, down some stairs. An old train stop with many older signs and right by an old track (unsure if trains still pass by). Ordered hot Turkish tea as drinks. Warm and brewed consistently. Great pallets cleansers. Got the appetizer platter that comes with 4 samples or your choice. This was a master piece! Comes in bowl all inflated and got and water bigger then you'd expect. It was such an amazing sight. This could've been a meal and I'd leave full. The hummus selection was the best dip. The bread has a crispy outer layer, chewy soft center, and a mix of both on the edges. Can't stop but marvel at this great bread. Big fan! I got the chicken shish kebab was flavorful and tastes like freshly grilled on charcoal meat. This has been the best NH drive stop yet! Call and get your reservation and get some bread!

Super authentic Turkish spot Anatolia in Somersworth, NH, came highly recommended by a foodie group I'm in -- & I'm so glad I went! The menu & photos immediately caught my eye, & since I was in Maine for the weekend, I made the trip. Tucked behind a building near the train tracks, this hidden gem had the perfect ambiance. Yagmur behind the bar took great care of me and offered some amazing suggestions. I started with warm lavash bread (over a foot wide!) & hummus, then had the kofte kebab with rice & Turkish mashed potatoes -- everything was seasoned to perfection. I ended the meal with a traditional Turkish coffee, the perfect finish to an incredible meal. Definitely a must-visit!

The service was very nice and the food came fast. My husband got the Turkish ravioli and it was very flavorful, the yogurt sauce made it so creamy. And I got the vegetable flatbread, it was ok the sauce could had used more spice; I wasn't tasting much. The inside was so cool too, it was like a secret restaurant vibe, kind of felt hidden away.

What an incredible place! We've been before, but decided to come on a Thursday for the belly dancing. It was definitely a fun experience. First we had the Hummus (a must try), then followed it with the Portobello Mushroom appetizer and it was delicious. I tried the Lamb Stuffed Eggplant and I've officially found my new favorite dish! The waitstaff is incredible attentive and the food arrives quickly and piping hot! Do yourself a favor and hit up Anatolia for your next night out!

Now a regular, we brought my family to experience Anatolia. They were blown away by the food. Since we lived in Turkey for a couple of years, the food did provide us a chance to share our memories of living in Turkey and the incredible food. You cannot go wrong. Check them out.

Lavash bread with hummus, stuffed grape leaves, baba ghanoush, and haydir. All equally wonderful!

The fries vary as well. Sometimes a bit crunchier and sometimes, while still crunchy, more toward McD fries style. But it's just the outer surface that crunches. Inside it's smooth and creamy. Top drawer. You'll find that they tuck a few fries into the wrap. A nice touch. The only negative point is speed. I've always been there early - the first for lunch. But it still takes a fair bit of time to get the food. Arrive during the crowded time and you're definitely going to be waiting around. But ... worth it. They have a lot more on the menu and have an interesting alcohol free beer/soda that was new to me and a nice change from actual soda. Definitely worth a visit.

About a year later, I found myself craving authentic Mediterranean food again, so I started searching for restaurants around New Hampshire. That's when I came across Ayasofia. As I looked through the menu and photos, everything seemed so familiar--it reminded me of the dishes I had loved at Mediterrano. The next day, my husband and I decided to drive an hour to Salem to try it out, and it was completely worth it. After speaking with the owner, we learned that Mediterrano had actually been owned by a member of his family and that they use the same recipes. It all made perfect sense! The owner was incredibly warm and welcoming, even encouraging us to return and meet his mother, who taught him these recipes. I highly recommend the hummus, baba ghanoush, salsa, and grape leaves--they're all fantastic. Be sure to order the lavash bread on the side, as it pairs perfectly with everything. For a main course, the adana lamb kebab is a must-try. Everything tastes incredibly fresh and full of flavor. I only wish I could cook like this--I'd happily eat Mediterranean food every single day!

And it seems I wasn't the only one who discovered this hidden gem. When we got here, the spot was packed inside. Despite this we ordered three different items for a sit-down experience, and still received everything within 25 minutes. I ordered the lamb shawarma wrap on one occasion, and it was love at first bite. The wrap itself was toasted to a perfect brown crisp on the outside, yet retaining softness underneath, where it encapsulated the ranch-like sauce where it mixed with the sliced lettuce, carrots, onions and tomatoes to give it a well rounded, mixed, creamy flavor of the vegetables. The lamb meat itself was the primary vehicle of salt and spice (with emphasis on the garlic), yet never being dry. All this being considered, the wrap never fell apart, and held together the entire journey. I made the mistake of ordering the lamp wrap my first go here, because the next occasion I came here, I got the chicken shawarma bowl. Although the rice, sauce, chicken and vegetables all inherited the same flavor profile as the wrap, the bowl fell wildly below my expectations as it was impossible to get a truly full bite of every single thing utilizing a small fork. Nonetheless, this is truly the spot for a reliable bite that emulates a small taste of the Middle East.
