OMG you guys- 100% of the time I go to any hardware store I am ignored like its circa 2020 and I have Covid. So when I walked in today and Wyatt and Dorian both swiftly assisted me (I walked in as usual looking lost on earth) I almost passed out from shock. This review is based on a visit that I had during the LA fires. I was evacuated and needed to purchase flashlights and an AM/FM battery operated radio. Looking up a battery operated radio. There was only one place that had it do it yourself center. They only had two left, and I took a chance if they would be open. I went there and they were open. They had their generators going. They had two registers. They welcome me in. The place was somewhat dark. They had employees at the front with flashlights, greeting you and taking you back where you needed to go. This was unbelievable service In such a difficult time. I am impressed with the manager for their resilience and making sure customer service was first and foremost. Based on what I could see, the store was very well stocked organized, and the staff was friendly. I will go back now that I've been there and know what the service is like and they are there for the community and a time of need. read more

Updating my rating after being contacted regarding my experience. Genuinely shocked and offended by what I witnessed this afternoon. A manager was yelling at an employee in front of customers and other staff. The entire scene was completely inappropriate and uncomfortable to witness. The other employees looked stunned and kept their heads down while assembling tables, it was clear this wasn't just a one off moment. I actually approached the manager and told him directly that the way he was speaking to his employee on the sales floor was not appropriate. He didn't say a word and simply walked away, which only reinforced how unprofessional and dismissive he was acting. I didn't get a chance to ask his name and it seemed he was the only available manager so I just left. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior from someone in a leadership role. Managers should know how to address concerns respectfully and in private, not humiliate their staff in front of others. I sincerely hope this is addressed by upper management. In the days before it was possible to get advice on line, they were always there to patiently explain things for me, even if they didn't result in a sale. Just came with the whole family to get a couple bags of decorative garden rock, but an employee stopped my wife at the door and demanded she hand over her purse because "store policy" doesn't "allow them" in the store. I went in to the store to buy some paint and one wasn't fastened well. The whole store was nice about it and they came out to clean my car up but they also damaged some of my property including a 130 dollar cargo cover my daughters shoes her stuffed animal and my phone cover. They didn't offer to replace my stuff, they gave my daughter a bag of chips and said sorry and when I called to speak to the manager Victoria she made me feel like a crazy person for even implying they should replace it. She gave the cargo cover back to me saying it was perfect and it's still covered in paint and damaged from the cleaners now. I have recently had to pay to replace the damaged cargo cover with no offer of reimbursement from the company. read more

I have I sure to this place recently when I was working on a big project, because there isn't a Home Depot close by. And I've got today I was surprised with the amount of stuff they have. It is not a Home Depot, but it isn't anything less either. I was able to find everything I needed, and the staff members were very friendly, they always answered any questions I might of had, and even took time out of their work to walk me to the section themselves. A big box hardware store that still maintains a small town feel. Whenever I come in, I'm offered help. Maybe that's because I'm a single girl...but it's not offensive and I've actually needed the help. The last two times I've been working on fixing my toilet and required advice on the replacement parts...the staff was very helpful. They have a gardening area and a friendly resident cat that prowls around like it owns the place. I like their holiday display area and their clean restroom too. I never speak about employees in my reviews, but these two were by the the most disgusting, most disrespectful people I've ever come across. If you buy things and come back to the store with a receipt to return it, they won't honor it. They just say "it's seasonal" we can't take it back. When I asked them where on their website or on the receipt it says that I can't return it, they said "it doesn't" HOW PATHETIC. Don't give this place your money. They are thieves and don't conduct an ethical business practice. Your better off going to ACE down the street. And the employees at DIY won't mind if there aren't any customers, I think they prefer it that way, because they hate customers, walk away while you're speaking to them, give attitude and get upset (sorry for assuming you have customer service skills) This store deserves to shut down. The DIY Home Center in Tujunga is consistently one of the worst retailers I visit, and is easily THE WORST hardware-related store I know. There's some pretty bad ones out there. DIY Home Center is the worst of all. In a nutshell: their product selection is poor, their prices are high, and the staff is the most inattentive, rude, and un-knowledgable customer-facing retail staff I've encountered. These issues have remained remarkably consistent over the years, decades even, that I've been forced by geography to use them. I visit on average twice a month, but sometimes I visit multiple times in a single day. The last time I was there, a few days ago, I needed multiple items. For two of these items I was looking for some assistance, and for a third item I wanted to check availability. While trying to determine an insecticide's capability to destroy certain pests, and while trying to find items on their shelves, I was passed by literally 13 employees at different times. I'm sure I looked confused, because I was. Not a single employee glanced at me, let alone offered to help or to answer any questions. They just "went about their business." If retailers helping retail customers in a retail environment aren't a business priority, then perhaps the retailer needs to stop retailing. These folks certainly have in spirit, if not in fact. This attitude possessed by the staff at the minimum is unconcerned & dismissive, but they can and do get worse, even abusive, of customers. This behavior has remained consistent over the years, and thus I can only assume it starts on the top of the org chart and works its way down to everybody. I have on 3 occasions had a nice cashier. Past that it's all been horrid attitude & service. They also offer inferior products at high prices. Prices consistently higher than their competitors. I could cite numerous examples, but basically the terrible prices span their meager product selection. Many of the products offered are of inferior quality, even when they're from a national brand. Many decades ago this store was okay, but for over a decade now this store has been just awful. Parking is abundant and excellent though, so that's good. Very good. They have some of the best parking around and generally hae many open spaces near the doors. The store is great if walking from car to door is a concern. They're also open on Sundays, another bonus over regular hardware stores, some of which aren't open on Sundays. Their location is also near several fast food restaurants, a grocery store, and a few other specialty retailers, so grabbing a snack or specialty item after your horrible shopping experience is accomplished readily. If the staff of this DIY Home Center reads my review, please don't be offended. I want you guys to be good. I wish you guys were good, but you need some serious lessons in customer service in the retail environment. read more
