I would have been shocked and surprised if this hardware store got anything but 5 stars on Yelp. Anawalt Lumber store is my go-to whenever I need to buy things that other hardware stores don't have. Employees are very helpful, attentive, nice, welcoming and very knowledgeable. They know where everything is. It has a vast selection of items that people need and everything has its own price. Some things are even on sale. Walked in yesterday at exactly 2pm and was helped by a lovely lady by the name of Isabelle. She wanted to know how she could have helped me? What was it that I needed? I told her that I needed few items for my house. After she listened to my requests, she literally walked me to all the aisles that carried what I needed. Needed a Dust Buster and they had 2 different kinds. A regular one (39.99), and more of an advanced one for ($59.99). A long broom, a Lavatory Strainer for a temporary fix until our plumber gets the actual part to come and fix my bathroom sink. Then I saw a Pop- Up Stopper. What it does is that it closes the hole in the sink for hair, food, residue, not to clog up the sink. We also needed a small bbq grill (4th of July being right around the corner). Got that too. A toolbox with all the right tools in them. Had Red and Black. Got red..one of my favorite colors. Every now and then, something breaks down and either myself or my son has to fix/repair them. Honestly this store has everything for your house, car, office needs. I also got some cleaning supplies for the house. 409, Lysol (pack of 2), and Tide. Store was nicely organized, clean and fully stocked. Aisles were very easy to navigate. Big parking lot and I believe restroom/S too. Didn't have to use them. Thank you Isabelle, Anwalt, and management for making my shopping experience easy, seamless and effortless. For all that I paid less than $160.00 including tax. read more

Like all True Value Hardware stores, you definitely want one in your neighborhood! I don't live near this one anymore, but I was driving by the other day and since I actually didn't need to stop at a hardware store, I popped in to spend my money here. They are not one of the big box stores, so they're not gonna always have everything you want, but they will help you search every aisle to potentially find it or possibly something similar. The staff is always pleasant and the prices are always fair (based on whatever economy it is at the time). read more

I really like this store. I think it is a better shopping space than the most popular options that are owned by corporations. This is a locally owned hardware store. I usually come here for gardening tools and dirt, but they have other tools and equipment. Including paint and key cutting. I recommend checking it out. I needed some lumber and advice for a DIY home repair. I'm so grateful that I chose Anawalt, my experience could not have been better. Begin with a substantial parking lot that you can enter from Burbank or Vineland. The parking lot was clean and free of carts. Walking through the door, I was greeted by two friendly cashiers. This store is so clean, open, and organized. I immediately saw where I needed to go to find the wood I needed. As soon as I approached the counter, Jake came over and helped me right away. I explained what I was doing and what I thought I could use. He showed me two very affordable options and confirmed my choice. I needed the wood to be cut into several pieces of varying sizes. No problem. He wrote up the ticket, told me the aisle where I could find a glue I needed, and set about to filling the cut order. When I went to find the glue, I was met and helped by another super friendly employee who took me directly to the product and helped me choose the appropriate quantity. I took my glue and order slip to the friendly cashier. It ended up being a little more than half of what I had anticipated paying, a very good thing these days! After loading the lumber into my car, I was about to take the cart back, and another employee came outside and said he'd return it for me. 100% positive experience across the board (no pun intended). If you have a project or repair in mind, especially if you're unsure or a little nervous about it (and don't want anybody "mansplaining" to you), this is the place to go. I should add, there were also quite a few customers that appeared to be seasoned pros, Anawalt was their choice too. Definitely going back to this location. read more

I've come here many times over the years, and I've had to go to other hardware stores in the nearby area. As a woman, I still get treated differently, in 2026, it's still happening. I've had a guy literally use his pot belly to physically move me out of the way mid transaction and put his stuff on the counter in front of me... and the cashier guy the helped him first without apology. I had 4 salesmen rush by me, as I said "excuse me, can I..." to ask a male customers "what can I help you with?" at the DIY center on Magnolia. I just left DIY and came here. I was, as always, treated like a normal human. Not like a woman, not like a man, like a person. I've come to Anawalt for projects when I knew exactly what I was doing, and for projects when I really needed help, and in both circumstances I was treated the same. I've been coming to this store for about 10 years and man have things have changed. I got up this morning to purchase some sandpaper. I originally thought that i purchased 100 grit but i ended up purchasing 150, I went home , attached it to my sander and started sanding. I realized it was the wrong grit and decided to exchange the item for the correct grit. I did forget the 4th piece as it was still on the Sander, and Michelle (relatively new face there) told me i could go home and get the missing piece. I went home, got the piece and when i came back to execute the exchange, I was met with a manager (Ian) who would not return the item. I told him that i had used the sandpaper and that's when i realized it was the wrong grit. I asked for the manager Ernie, and he wasn't in. Again, this isn't a big deal, it's 5.99 but to respond "yes" when i asked to go home and get the missing piece is a big deal. I waisted going homehome and retrieve the missing piece of sandpaper and was still not allowed to exchanged. I ended up buying the other one that i needed - so i guess they made out. But that's the last time i go to this location. The staff turnover is so high and its not the local hardware place I used to know. I have spend hundred of bucks there over the last 10 years and it's unfortunate they don't really care about their customers anymore. read more

Wow. What a great experience. I needed a bunch of pieces of wood cut to an exact size for a home project. I'm not a DIY expert so I wasn't really sure what I needed in terms of supplies, wood type, etc., or how much it would cost me. The people at Anawalt stepped up to help me instantly, no waiting. They suggested a change from my plan that saved me *hundreds* of dollars. And they did all the cuts for me, saving me hours and hours of work with my limited tools at home. It was quite literally a better experience than I could have hoped for. A long expensive project became a short, fairly cheap one. Everyone there goes above and beyond. I went in feeling ignorant and embarrassed, but I left feeling welcome and confident. What a refreshing change from megastores where I can never find any help at all. This lumber company is a small HOME DEPOT. You'll most likely find whatever it is you may need to repair, fic, improve maintain and anything else that you set your mind to. I love Anawalt. They usually have everything.I need not very many variations of but they do have at least one brand. Every single one of their workers asks if you need help. I don't know if it's because they're worried about your shoplifting. Or if they're just trying to be helpful, but it works It's never too crowded. The prices may be a little higher. but it is an easier store to move round in. The workers are always in good spirits, and it's not like Lowe's where you can't find somebody who knows what they're talking about or wants to help you. I went in the afternoon around 5pm and there were two cars in the parking lot. I had my 87yr old mother in the car with her 12 yr old cavalier spaniel. Dog years that's 84. lol. I needed one piece of wood. The sun was low in the sky so i positioned my car for least amount of direct sunlight and with AC on I left the keys and ran inside. Over the loudspeaker I hear can the owner of the black Chrysler please move the car. I ran outside thinking maybe a truck is coming or something and they need a lathe to the bay doors so I moved the car all the way to the farthest part of the parking lot again positioned for least amount of direct sun on my mother. As I walked in the manager said... you can't park in the lines designated for parking. I realized what happened but didn't get angry. I explained 87 yr old mother...sun etc. he waited till I finished and barked back so can you please go park between the lines as designated? I stared at him for the longest time and finally said..."nope". Before I left I explained the parking lot was COMPLETELY EMPTY. He didn't care. Just repeated himself. I hope with everything I have that everyone parks all katywampus in his parking lot for as long as he works there. He isn't smart. I don't patronize that store anymore. read more

I came to buy lumber and asked for a single cut and the guy lectured me that they don't have time to do cuts on weekday mornings. He did it anyway but only after scolding me like you would a child. Not the first time I've been treated rudely in the lumber department. On the other hand the people working in the paint department are awesome, the three stars is for them. read more

Love how the first photo on Yelp of this place is a shitter, very apropos. Lumber department here sucks, don't come here if you need project cuts. They will take your design and find a way to make it more expensive and eat up as much material as possible. They don't care about being economical and saving you money by slicing as many pieces out of a sheet as possible because they're not in the business of that, they just want to sell as much material as they possibly can. Buy your own equipment and slice it yourself. Oh and the one guy here knowledgeable enough to help appears too "busy, tired or entitled" to offer any real assistance to you &/or the rookie guys in lumber that are trying to help. read more

There are always half a dozen well informed and helpful staff members ready and eager to answer my questions. At Lowes, I'm on my own. And it's always so difficult to find what I need at Lowe's, and the products are not in the right place or out of stock. This store just lost a 10-year customer this morning! They were so ridiculously rude over such a little thing that I did not stay to shop afterward and I'm NEVER going back there. I try to shop more local but they just pushed me over to Home Depot for life. A couple of months ago, I bought a little sink cap thingy to cover the whole of the old sink nozzle. It was probably about 75 cents. I never opened it because I got too busy to try to donit myself. Fast-forward to yesterday, and our plumber fixed it on his own while taking care of a separate issue. I'm in the middle of spring cleaning and don't want this unopened part cluttering up my kitchen drawer, so while running errands I popped in this morning to give it back to them. I didn't want a store credit or anything. I was just trying to make sure it didn't go to waste. I didn't have anyone to give it to. The sales clerk and floor manager looked at it and told me they couldn't do anything without a receipt and "wouldn't be able to resell it" to anyone. WHAT?!?!? Seeing as hiw they were going to just stand there and refuse to be the least bit helpful with their own product, I walked out. That store has been there since 1920 or something like that. With people like these running the place, I wouldn't expect it to last much longer. read more

They need to put prices on their lumber. Huge sections have zero prices listed. I'm talking aisles. I shouldn't have to go back and forth asking "how much is this one, how much is this one?" Even worse, much of what they're selling ISN'T EVEN LABELED! So not only do they not post the prices, but you pretty much have to be the wood whisperer to figure out what you're looking at. I guarantee someone has been scammed and overcharged, as it's way too easy to trick customers into paying for the more expensive wood. Oh, yeah, and no one asked if I needed assistance until I was walking out the front door. Real good job they're doing here. On the plus side, they post their milling charges. But to be honest, I wouldn't trust the staff to be able to pick their nose without injuring themselves, let alone be able to properly cut wood. read more

I really love this place. No matter what you need. Specific screws, nuts, lumber, plumbing supplies, etc. They will have it. But even greater. Sales associates actually will approach you friendly and ask you if you need help. It almost feels like you went into a time machine 50 years back where customer service actually still existed. I have never left this store without getting what I was looking for. The 4 stars? The only thing that they could improve is. ( having worked in retail myself) and being an advocate for making customers feel welcome. The mostly 2 young girls at the check-out at the entrance when you walk in. That is the first thing you see. It happens quite often that they just stand there and they look right at you and say absolutely nothing. It really wouldn't hurt to maybe teach them to greet the incoming customers. I know it seems to be old fashion to actually naturally care about this for most younger folks. But It makes a huge difference for customers walking into a store. Instead of just being stared at or totally ignored. But then being treated so nicely by the salespeople. Just a suggestion. read more

I am definitely a fan of this store. It feels very much like a mom and pop type of hardware store when you walk in but the selection is more like that of a Lowe's or Home Depot. I just recently purchased a house nearby and have been working on small DIY home renovation projects. Luckily, True Value is right up the street so if I happen to need anything random when working on a project, I just drop everything and run up to True Value. They haven't failed me yet, having always had what I needed when I needed it. Often times if you go to one of the larger stores like Lowe's or Home Depot, there are tons of employees but it seems as though there is never anyone to actually help you. I spend half my time in those stores searching for someone to ask for help. I feel like True Value prides itself on their commitment to customer service. They never tell you an aisle and have you go try to find the item. They tell you the aisle and then take you there or get someone over to help you who has specific knowledge of those products. I haven't compared prices between this store and their larger rivals but everything I have gotten from here seemed reasonably prices so I didn't question it. A great selection of lumber, much better than Home Depot for lumber! Have I said lumber enough yet? Well there's more review to go. I went to this location after Home Depot didn't have the right side of board I was looking for. I didn't have high hopes for this place either, but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised. They have a good selection of lumber, and I bet you will find almost anything that you're looking for here. I went in looking for a specific item and there was a gentleman who worked here (I should have gotten his name) who was very helpful. And unlike Home Depot their cutting saws actually work! So you'll be able to get the rough cuts that you need. I can't speak to the hardware store side of this place because I didn't shop there, but I would imagine it's got a pretty decent selection since this location has a lot of space. Definitely check this place out if you're looking for some lumber. read more
