This store is very close to my house so I drop by here every now and then, not for hardware or home improvement purposes, but for plants. They have a very good selection of plants here, common varieties and some rare ones, too at affordable prices. It's not even half as big as Home Depot or Lowe's but they have all the materials you'll need for quick home repairs. I'm not sure about customer service because I never had a need for assistance. I just grab what I need and pay for it. Side note: don't be surprised if you find two beautiful cats inside the store. Didn't want to support Home Depot and Lowe's had incredibly bad customer service - so I ended up here today. Not only was I treated much better than other retailers, I had a specific need taken care of (2 sheets of plywood cut at specific lengths and they cut it for me) with no problem that very moment. Prices are slightly higher than big chain stores, but worth the respect and ease of shopping here. Easy parking in its own lot behind the store is a big plus. This place has plenty of parking out back which is great. They have a wide variety of merchandise and seem to get holiday items that other stores don't get. Need one mason jar - you can get it here. Cast iron pan - yup. This reminds me more of an old school hardware store which I love. I visited the BURBANK DIY store before going I called and I spoke to Robert who was super super nice. Very cherry voice very knowledgeable really wanted to help. I had such a good feeling talking to him. He put me on hold He found what I was looking for. He even brought it up to the front. So that when I arrived, I didn't have to go looking for the item myself very kind and commentating great customer service. Also the CASHIER I wish I had got her name. She was very nice. She was lovely as well. She was working on July 8 when you first walk in the register to the left, she was not there on July 9th I went into the DIY center the very next day and what a difference a day makes when you have different staff a whole different energy of people, I walked in their were two ladies at the long desk to the right did not say hello to me when I walked in did not smile just right away very negative energy very snobby very much like they did not want to be there and they definitely did not want to help me. Their names were Laurie and Natalie . very dismissive tones of voice very much. I don't feel like talking to you. It was just really bad I had to ask them can you please look up the item because it was here yesterday but no they decided better to tell me someone probably bought it for me to go check the aisles again which I did came back so I did not see it and I said now can you look it up? She says we show that we have two I really was standing there and waiting for her to say let me come help you find it, but that was not going to happen with this lady who was LAURIE and Natalie just kept looking over and while I was standing in line LAURIE walked over to say something to Natalie and they looked at me. You can just tell just such a bad negative unnecessary energy. So unprofessional, they really made me feel uncomfortable if I had not needed this product so bad and had not been searching all over for it. These two ladies would definitely have made me say forget it and just leave the store because typically I don't like to spend my money and places like this, I was already thinking to myself to ask for the manager . The store was not busy, but she was definitely not leaving her post to help me when there were two that I did not see. She said I will call somebody to help you. This lady. Her name is ANGIE. She was the savior and the brightness and this horrible visit to DIY BURBANK ANGIE help me find the product. They only had one. We had a nice small conversation about how easy it is to miss she told me to have a nice day. She was super nice. Went back to the counter to pay ... encountered Laurie and Natalie again. Laurie walked over to Natalie and whispered again. They both looked at me ( not making any of this up ) before before LAURIE rung up my purchase .... first positive words I got from her with no smile Was have a nice day. I did not leave there feeling as happy as I was when I went in, I tell myself do not let peoples negative energy affect mine or their bad attitude, but it can be so hard so be careful on the days that you go into this store . I would say Wednesday is not such a good day, but I don't know when they change., their staff. I always think the owners in MANAGEMENT must know and would be very bothered to know that their employees are making customers feel this way and that they can possibly lose money because of this . read more

I love this place and would 100% rather come here than any large, chain hardware store. They have a large selection, but not overwhelmingly so and a pleasant, easy to navigate layout and shopping experience. Parking is super easy. The staff is all really friendly, and they know what they're doing and know their products. If I call to ask whether they have something in stock, they know right away. If I need help in the store, someone is always available and knowledgeable. I came to buy a DeWalt drill for my husband for Christmas, and the man who helped me explained the different drills they carried for that brand and the benefits of each. He helped me pick the perfect one. I feel that if I had gone to Home Depot or Lowe's, I would have had to wander around to find help, employees would have walked away in the other direction, and the employee I talked to wouldn't have known exactly where the drills are or anything about them (my usual experience at the larger stores). DIY has a great nursery selection, as well as kitchen/dining and home goods. They always have a great holiday decor section too, and they make key copies on site. I've always been able to find what I need here and I love supporting them. Bonus - there are CATS! Buuuuuut gotta call out management on their decision to put up Christmas Decorations in September (skipping Halloween entirely.) Have you been to Burbank?! This is an absolutely mental business decision. Halloween is the most important holiday in our area. Did anyone consult spreadsheets from last year's decoration sales? They consistently sell out. Skipping Halloween (ZERO items) is a huge miss by DIY corporate. What was the rationale? Next year: bring back Halloween items in your Burbank store. So bummed they were entirely cut. Walked in with two ancient, incomplete doornobs and walked out with two excellent and afforadable solutions thanks to Dean! I am a big fan of DIY Burbank because it has everything you need and it's not a corporate behemoth. They also have my favorite nursery with plants that are healthy and always last when you take them home. Usually when I go there I try to find solutuions myself, not because the people aren't friendly but because I like the challenge of it. This particular day, I was in way over my head. I needed to stop two door handles from always falling off, they were both very old and I wanted to keep them. I marched into DIY with both handles, Dean asked if I needed help and I accepted. My measurments were from my finger and I had one picture on my phone. Undeterred, Dean was ready to find solutions, he took his time finding just the right workarounds and never once made me feel foolish. He was professional, kind and creative and absolutley made my day. Turns out accepting help saves both time and money as my usual technique involves return trips and echanged products. Went in today for an item that the website clearly lists as "in-stock". When i asked where the item was, they informed me that there were absolutely NO patio umbrellas on the premises. The website currently lists several different patio umbrellas as in stock as well. They said "We don't keep those here." No apology. Then one of the employees says (there were 3 employees talking to each other, which I guess I rudely interrupted) "The website will get ya every time!" Excuse me? Was that comment really necessary? The store has a great variety BUT the staff is rude. It really makes it an unpleasant experience. I live nearby and I really like the store I just really don't like the people who work there. If you can track someone down to help you, they will help you, but they will not be friendly or kind about it. Since this seems to be the experience with most of the employees I've come across, this is clearly a top down management style. Trader Joe's employees are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to help you because that is their management style and it is reinforced within their employees. I would say the opposite is true of the DIY store in Burbank. I do not like posting negative reviews and rarely do it but I've gone here on and off over the past few years and the only thing that is consistent is that the workers seem to not understand or care that the only reason they have jobs is because of customers. Today I had to run over for something which was much easier to find there than it would have been at Lowe's or Home Depot but when I checked out, the person who rang me up, was looking out the window the entire time, then she grabbed my receipt out of the machine, handed it to me without ever looking at me or saying thank you. She just kept staring out the window. I have to say you have to go out of your way to be that rude to a customer. By the way, the employee's name tag said "Assistant manager". Truly remarkable. I was here looking to get some wood cut for a cabinet and purchase some hardware. I had my list, my measuring tape, etc. I was ready to go. I looked around for a few minutes and found what I wanted, then found an employee. "can you..." umm...rush past me and ask that guy if needs anything, I guess. Did I mention I'm a woman? I found another employee, he walked by and said "excuse me" when I asked for help. Kept walking. Employee #3 walked by and basically treated me like a piece of talking furniture. Employee #4 cut me off mid sentence when he was right in front of me and asked some guy at least 10 feet away what he needed. I walked out and went to Anawalt Lumber in North Hollywood on Burbank Blvd. at Vineland. I got everything I needed (turns out at a much lower price, so glad for it all in the end) but mainly, I was actually treated respectfully, like a person, not man or a woman, but a normal person. They have rows upon rows of all of the stuff that you may need. The store is very airy and well organized. So you'll feel comfortable shopping throughout all of the different departments. Make sure you really know what you need before going. As far as asking for advice? Don't bother. There's only two guys there that have worked there for decades that are experienced with all things home repair. DIY prices are higher than Lowes and HomeDepot, but they do carry some hard to find items that might make up for the high costs. I can't remember her name...but the manager is great. They have a large (free) parking lot you can enter on California, and overall I find shopping here better experience than the big box home stores. Great place to get anything you need for your home. As long as it's not too specific. Super clean, never crowded, people are always happy to help you find what you need. I am not the fixer kind, I let hubby play that part. When he texts me to get him something from a hardware store in Burbank, this is a place I know I will go in, ask for what I need, and head out. They almost got me last time when they had the nicest flower pots outside... but let's face it, I do not have a green thumb. For those who do, this place is great. Not much of a selection like other places, but I'd rather go here and take my chances before heading to the zoo that is home depot. ugh. What would make this place better?
