Great place to go to get door knob issues fixed! Rick is super knowledgable and able, he fixed the mechanisms in my door knobs and now my doors work (and aren't driving me nuts)! I was really happy he could fix them rather than have to replace the entire lock set. It is a pretty cool store, if you've never been inside, fun to check out, so much stuff, old and new. If you have an old home or want vintage and unique and understand that Rick's isn't a chain (thank you, God) this is a hardware goldmine ... I needed ball finials for my door hinges. I didn't even know what they were called until way too much Google time. Found the manufacturer who told me of a distributor. The guy acted like I was asking him to scale a glass wall naked in the rain. WAIT!!!!! RICK'S! This is where I bought my hinges and door knobs and drawer pulls and.... This is an actual goldmine. Not only do they have ALL the vintage hardware, but there is an actual Rick and he is a legit genius at fixing hardware and advising on installation. A lot of their work is for the studios, so they have a selection of stunning, dramatic pieces in styles from Western to French Normandie to MCM to adobe. They fixed a period doorset three locksmiths had given up on and help me find a gorgeous set of replacement handles for some 70s-era bifold doors, which included a phone conference with my handyman to select the appropriate fittings. I've done a ton of remodeling and only wish I'd discovered Rick's earlier. I'll be a regular from now on. read more

The amount of hardware (like actual hardware) in this place was overwhelming (as in an amazing selection) and should definitely be your first stop if this is what you're looking for. I also found the staff to be incredibly helpful, especially when I was looking to have some keys made, which they used to do but do not anymore. Yes, I had read several reviews saying how wonderful their key-making was, but they don't do it anymore. :( That said, they sent me to Anawalt Lumber, which was fantastic and I got just what I needed. read more

I thought poifect, it's right near the rest of my errands so I'll check it out. Come to find out that this is no "hardware" store, it is in fact a store that sells hard wares, such as door knobs, door handles, hinges and decorative things of that nature. And while I was bummed because they didn't have what I originally came in for, I do now know of a most fantastic resource for neat things of this nature for the home. When I walked into Rick's hardware store I felt as if I were playing a role in the opening of a Never Ending Story film, just one magical key hole away from Fantasia. These guys have everything door related from 1800's solid brass door knobs to hand crank doorbells. The selection is unlike anything I had ever seen before and the owners know their stuff. For those who are in the movie industry, you may find their rentals to be a good solution for some detailed set design. It's human nature to categorize everything, even the things that can't be. Calling Rick's a "hardware store" is a good example. Yes, it's a "store" because stuff is kept there "stored" and yes, you can buy the stuff like any other store. And yes, the stuff of which we speak is in fact "hardware," but shopping at Rick's is like entering a sort of museum of knobs, and escutcheons. If you ever wanted a little taste of what it would be like to be a part of the film biz, then go to Rick's. Here you see not just one, but a selection of doorknobs that a set designer might use to have Abe Lincoln turn to enter the Oval Office in the old White House. Or, a skeleton key not just used to open any lock, but used by skeletons to opening locks to secret treasure troves they horded while alive. If movies are made of dreams, then Ricks has the stuff that dreams are made of. I'd take a tour, at least. read more

I needed replacement doorknobs for our vintage bathroom door with vintage mechanism. I showed Rick what I had and he told me what I needed, went thru several boxes and came up with exactly what I needed and a proper lock to boot, which was a combination of old and new vintage style parts. He went to a lot of trouble and effort to do it, cleaned it all up and even let me trade in the old ones. This place is the real deal - family owned, great service and selection. It's like a well-organized garage of antique fixtures and new catalogs all in one store. Pricing & customer service couldn't be better, even for relatively small orders. All the previous reviews are correct... The location. Great! The price. Reasonable and comparable! The selection. Great! They have the hard to find stuff, yes! BUT, Im not sure what it was, while Sheri was very nice, my two visits to drop off and pick up were cold with Mr. Rick. The shortness and tone was uncalled for. Although, Sheri did not call me back like she thought she had to tell me my repair was ready, she at least tried her best to play it off as though she did. Rick commented in the background that yes, they did speak with "someone", which is not true, because I only gave them my number written clearly on the box. Overall bad vibe I received when I walked in. The tone only slightly improved with Rick when he realized I manage a 50 unit building around the corner. By then the damage was done. I compared his quote with another local place to order from, and the other place does not charge me shipping fees. Wish this experience was better because I've admired from their window the charm and antiquity of their inventory for some time now. I will drive the extra couple of miles to Burbank to get what I need next time than deal with that attitude again. I can guess a couple reasons why I was treated that way, but I'm trying not to let my imagination to get the best of me. read more

They worked with me to find a solution to bolt some antique door knobs to a board to make a coat rack. They helped me find the right pieces, showed me alternatives that were more in my budget, and rigged up the hardware so that I could easily put it together when I got home. Thank you guys!!! Amazing selection. Excellent customer service. Exceeded my expectations. I've had 3 different locksmiths tell me that I needed to replace my mortise lock to the tune of $600+. Turns out that I just needed a new screw because the old one was stripped (probably by someone using the wrong tool to tighten it). Rick's had the screw and the proper Allen wrench needed to fix the problem. I had a solution in 5 mins but stayed a little longer to browse the shiny things. Very happy customer! read more
