    Bristol Cooler

Amazing farm to table restaurant in Round Pond! We arrived by boat, coming from about an hour away in Cushing. We called ahead en route to secure a reservation for our large party of nine, and by the time we arrived our table was ready. Beautiful views, great atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food and drink, the Anchor has it all. They were able to accommodate my gluten allergy with aplomb. We started with some local oysters from Penobscot Bay, lovely briny bites with homemade cocktail sauce and homemade mignonette. For cocktails, I had the Bristol Cooler, a light and refreshing Hendricks gin cocktail. Irish whiskey fans enjoyed the Chipper Ginger. Attention is paid to the smallest details in the entrees and the plating. Edible fresh flowers garnish each plate, and the sauces and sides complement the expertly cooked proteins. The local pork belly appetizer with scallop served as my main course, and was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We capped off the evening with a sunset cruise back to Cushing. A stellar evening with beloved friends and family.

a plate of fries and a lobster sandwich

A lobster roll on the Maine coast shouldn't be an issue. Mine was. For $34 I got a bizarre and relatively tasteless pile of lobster "bits" piled into a hotdog bun along with some fries. Add on 2 beers (one from a can) and the other a tasteless hefeweizen draft and you've got yourself - with tax and tip - a very mediocre meal for one at the grand total of $60. But it was 7p, dark and the nearest restaurant was 10 miles away... so I figured that something had to be okay with this packed restaurant (couldn't get a seat at the bar - had to settle for a wobbly table for 4.) Now I know. Service was a notch above hostile - the waitress literally tossed the bill on the table. To be frank, I believe the 1-2 star reviews over the 4-5 star ones. I've been there, eaten there and won't be back.

Avoid at all costs. Horrible service from staff and management. You may need to drive many miles for another meal but it will be worth it.

I stopped by the day in advance to confirm our reservation for the porch and picked up a menu. The big day arrived, we walked in and I explained that we had a reservation for four on the porch to which the rather rude young hostess said no, you are sitting outside. I explained that I didn't want to sit outside at a picnic table I wanted to sit on the porch. She said that wasn't an option even though I could see there were tables available on the porch. Not wishing to make a scene with my family present I agreed and she led us to a picnic table outside. The food selection was limited but well presented and delicious. Unfortunately, the server did not let us know they were out of the sausage plate which is what my husband was hoping to order. The servers were pleasant but inattentive and could benefit from additional training. We had to make a serious effort to get their attention to order more beverages. Because we were outside there were flies and yellow jackets around the table and the food. We are year round residents would like to return if it was guaranteed we could get a table in the place we reserved without a fuss. Good place for families with young children as there were numerous kids running around.

They have an area for kids to play and run around too. Seating is outside and spaced out. You order from the outdoor bar, and the food is brought to your table by friendly staff. The quality of the food was excellent. I had one of the best Italian sandwiches ever. They also had vegan options as well as a large beer and wine menu. Great place to hang out on a summer afternoon.

One had the fish and chips. Up this way they use haddock. Don't know why we don't in Charleston, that was some oh-so-delicious fish!!!! I'd been dying for some 'Boston' clam chowder. This chowder definitely fits the bill. Tasty, salty (in an appropriate way) thick, hot, and stuffed with some delicious clams. I also decided on the risotto, just the 4 cheese, no protein. This was creamy and so full of flavor, 6 days later I'm still thinking about it. We sat on the rooftop, enjoyed some fine weather, a great meal, and lovely wine. Couldn't have been a more perfect lunch!

I was already in a foul mood, walking in here set me into straight sensory overload. It's a bar where they sing. I am unable to get inebriated enough to enjoy bars where they sing any longer. Call me miserable, maybe I suppose. In addition to the merry old fella belting it out on the mic, we had the joy of having some drunk guy in a large group behind us try and out sing him without a microphone. He even challenged the old guy singing to a form of a duel. Anyway I was so off, I cannot remember anything about my server at all. Nothing. I do remember almost screaming and running out. I sat there trying not to lose it while my wife had the time of her life. Every song made it worse, everyone else is singing, I am dying. When the guy took a break, guess what, dickhead from the crowd goes up and takes over. Shots helped at this point and the weed is kicking in well at this point. Now I'm hungry... My food was inedible and I'm pretty sure incomplete as well. The worst flatbread in the history of flatbreads. C's looked pretty good actually so I am sure her experience was quite different than mine. I hope to never return. '25 - extra
