I booked this hotel off season on Travel Zoo and think it's an acceptable place. We stayed in the main building. The room was dated but clean. The mattress was comfy and the mattress itself was clean. White bedding felt fresh. The bathroom was tiny but clean. Staff was friendly. Wi-fi service not so great. A modest but nice complimentary breakfast was included with the room. But what this hotel has going for it is that is is across the street from the beach and within walking distance of many things. The room pictures others have posted on Yelp are accurate but the pool pictures are not accurate. For a convenient/not fancy/not romantic place near the beach it's a-ok. read more

BEDBUGS! Stay away! The pool staff were friendly but we came home from our trip with bedbugs. We fixed it on our end which cost several thousands of dollars. We had first seen them on our toddlers portable bumper which was inserted under their hotel mattress. The hotel dismissed us like it it never happened. My wife and I will be calling the health department of Maine on them. I assume more than one room has them. read more

Very nice hotel! It was very clean. The location is GREAT. Not because it's near York beach which is a mediocre beach in my opinion. Half the beach is covered with rocks and the half with sand was wet from the high tide so the sheet we were laying on got soaked. That may have been because it was May and mid 60s-70s so the sun couldn't dry it fast. It's a great location because it's about 20 min from a really nice beach we found called Ogunquit beach (Def. Go there) and 20 min from Portsmouth NH which has a lot of late night places (many places in York beach closed at 8pm/9pm). I was thinking of staying in Oqunquit next time, but that would be 40 min from Portsmouth so I think York is a better in between place to stay. We stayed in one of the front rooms and we could hear the waves from our room which was no nice. I wish there a window in the front so the sound could be louder. There were seats outside in the walkway but it was too chilly to sit and relax outside. The shower pressure was really good too, I hate low pressure showers. The bathrooms were a bit small, low toilets. The sink was outside the bathroom door. But they seemed very clean. The room had a thermostat which worked great. The walls were a bit thin. We went in May which must be a slow season because the hotel was pretty empty. But a family did check in next to our room (the rooms had the joining door) and I could hear them when they talked. But they were not loud so it didn't really bother me. There was a cool outdoor pool which we didn't use because it was too cold, the indoor pool/jacuzzi was nice. The gym was basic, it did not have a treadmill which I think is standard for a gym. They did have an elliptical, a bench press, some other equipment that I honestly didn't know what to do with. They had weights too. Another thing which would be a nice touch would be if they included complimentary breakfast. They sold muffins and bagels but come on... throw in some coffe and pastries. read more

I booked a room for 2 nights (6 months in advance) thinking that it was the Anchorage by the Sea in Ogunquit....this place is 15 minutes away in York and it's a huge disappointment! I'm so depressed that I'm committed to staying at this loud, crowded, dingy dive. Everything smells like mildew, you need wristbands for the pool, the parking lot is a free-for-all and I've never seen a motel bathroom so small in my life! They couldn't even fit the sink in the bathroom...it's in the motel room next to the outdated AC unit. Even the balconies are crowded with guests taking a drag from their cigarette or hanging towels and bathing suits on the railings. Just looking at the beach across the street makes me want to cry...mostly rocks and shoulder to shoulder people. If you're on the lamb from the cops I would recommend staying here, but if you have standards and want to stay somewhere that has class, just keep driving. I'd rather spend the night in my car and cry myself to sleep than actually pay to stay here. read more

"HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNCLEAN" Unfortunately my stay at this resort was not what I had anticipated for my daughter and I. First the toilets and the tub were clogged continuosly on both days, plus backing up "yuck" and the rugs were musky, but if you can withstand the smell and don't mind calling maintenance daily plus encountering a nervous front desk staff greeting you then this is your place to vaca for the summer. Wow sounds like fun...huh! Now on to the next complaint, I will inform you of the unprofessional staff working the front desk especially the manager Patty. I can assure you my sweet 7 year old daughter will never want to visit this summer vacation place again. She was in tears after hearing the manager literally yelling at me because my son had arrived with his miniature pinscher but had already left because I had informed him of the no pet rule at the resort, but then to be hounded by an employee at the pool and expected to leave my daughter unattended to report to the front desk...well I'm sorry but this is not a life or death situation...especially when my son had already left. Wow he had shown up for a few hours then had to turn around and head back. He being a teenager I forgave him after having to pay a fine of $250. I did notice the front desk staff were awkwardly friendly during my stay and now I know why. I think Manager Patty (needs a vacation) needs to take notes on hospitality as we all know when a person goes on vacation it is to leave their stress back home. I'm not sure what other events have taken place at this resort for her to be so untrusting and to lack the patience to listen to a customer. My guess is she must have had one too many encounters with screwballs at this resort. Well I'll be loyal to my timeshare vacationing at 4 and 5 star resorts rather than at this low class motel suite resort. The place was really clean and loved having the large balcony overlooking the ocean and having a screen door to leave open to hear the water. The staff went above and beyond to help me try to get my computer setup with wifi. Patrick, Jonah and Gerri were exceptional with their customer service. "Poor customer service" My wife and I had reservations for June 16th and 17th 2019. Due to a serious medical condition, we called the Anchorage Inn on Thursday 6/13/2019 to cancel our two night stay. We spoke to "Luke" and advised him of our current situation, he advised us that there was nothing they could do about it. I explained that we were frequent visitors at the Anchorage Inn, and that the situation we encountered was out of our control. They were not empathetic whatsoever to our situation, and would not make any exceptions. This resulted in being charged for the one night stay. Due to the way we feel we were treated poorly as loyal customers of the Anchorage Inn we will not be returning and notifying our friends and family what we feel was a horrendous experience. We understand that businesses like the Anchorage Inn need to have cancellation policies to protect their establishment during the Summer season. However, we feel that a medical situation should at least be considered as an exception to the policy. The response from the Anchorage Inn was "Those are the rules and we make no exceptions". read more

We have stayed here in the past and never had a problem until this trip. Our daughter who is now in a wheelchair and loves the pool, wasn't even able to get into the room without a bunch of obstacles! This is the worst place for a handicap person to stay! there are no ramps to get to any of the pools, front desk, or handicapped buttons to access the buildings. We could not get past the entrance to the bedroom with her wheelchair because of the ginormous wooden cupboards that hold the refrigerator and microwave. The pools are supposed to be heated but when we complained how cold they were we got nothing but attitude and when the guy came out to try to fix them he said " at least it's warmer than the ocean". When I went to the front desk to have my key card fixed for the second time, I inquired about the coffee and pastries that were in the lobby and I was told that they were only for the oceanfront guests! I feel if you were staying as a guest you deserve to be treated just like anybody else would and most of all they claim that they are handicapped accessible which they are not! I was accidentally given the wrong room at first and the staff had to go in and pack up all my clothes/personal items and move it to a new room while I was out. It was a little awkward/weird. The room they gave me was actually supposed to be my friend's room and he claimed they told him no one was in the room before me but I even still had the room key. I guess it could've possibly been a miscommunication and I'm not sure what happened. It was a beautiful location just kind of a weird stay, I've never had that kind of thing happen before. Also I had to go to the office every time I wanted to get in my room because if my room key got anywhere near my phone it was deactivated. Kind of hard to prevent seeing as we all carry the phones in our pockets next to our wallets or other items. Overall I took 4 trips to the office so I could get a new key. One time I had to do it around 12 am when I got back from dinner/drinks and a security guard was hovering right over me as I got my new key which made me feel a little uncomfortable. Especially when the receptionist (who was great) looked up my room number he repeated it out loud kind of slowly in a weird way. He was less than 2 feet away from my face when this was happening. If you are wheelchair-bound this is definitely not the place for you. Where do I start. - Reserved an ADA compliant room and it is clearly something that was hodgepodged together. For example it had a regular tub with grab bars but I had to ask for a shower chair this was frustrating given the fact that I was expecting a roll in shower or at least a tub with a chair that allowed me to slide into the tub. When I made the reservation I asked for a roll in shower room and wasn't told that I wasn't getting one. For reference my room was in the rear building of the hotel. - If you're expecting to be able to get on to the bed from either side forget about it. My wheelchair only allowed me to get on to one side of the bed. - The room did have a small outside deck but a person in a wheelchair can't access it because you have to step down to get to it. This is impossible if you're in a wheelchair. - The brick sidewalks in the building where I was staying are uneven. - As with a lot of places there is no way to enter the building unless there is someone with you given the fact that there are no handicap buttons to automatically open doors. - Given the prices they charge for rooms I would've expected something better. I realize that the overwhelming majority of rooms are regular rooms for non-handicapped people but you would think that the few rooms that they do have for handicapped people would be designed or retrofitted to give people with disabilities the same level of comfort and experience that the other rooms have. As I stated at the start of this review if you are wheelchair-bound and require ADA access this is not the place for you. Very disappointing experience won't be going back. The Anchorage Motor Inn served its purpose well. It was the base of operations for the family and friends of our good friends that were recently married in York Beach, ME. The rooms are showing some age, but it seems like they updated the beds, the linens, and the TVs (they also have great and easy wireless internet access), so you are comfortable when you are doing the most basic thing you rent a room for...sleep. The main complaint here is that you hear anyone and everyone that is walking by the room, whether they are on your floor or on the floor below. Luckily I was sleeping off a night of drinking and quickly fell back asleep. From it's convenient location, the beach is but a stone's throw away, and there are restaurants and surf shops within an easy walk. If you fear the bitter cold of the North Atlantic, you will find comfort in the clean indoor pool area and the adjacent hot tub. I hear the road is extremely busy during the summer months, so I'm glad the wedding was when it was...early May. The Anchorage Motor Inn is an easy recommendation for anyone that is heading to this area. 3.5 stars rounded down because we were there in low season. read more

I stayed for a weekend with my bf. First nite woke up with a sore throat and just got worse from there. I'm now going home with total head congestion. My bf had told them about this at the desk and we did get an apology but not a mention of talking to management. I'm very disappointed as I have wanted to stay at this place since I saw it a year ago. The room was nice but I just don't know if things were sanitized properly. So my bf ended up talking to management and was told we were just trying to scam them. I am disgusted and appalled. Clean pool close to beach. The Atrium building is separate from the main building but has a pool in the center atrium, with the rooms surrounding it. Basic but clean and fairly new rooms in the Atrium building. The main building is more "motel" like with the room doors are the outside doors. This is not my favorite situation in most places, but this is the beach so I can deal with it. Atrium: Newer, some views, indoor pool just outside your door. Hotel style rooms. Main: Older, better views on higher floors, motel style rooms, indoor pool across in the lobby building. Right across from the beach so it is great for surfers when the weather is cold. read more

I'll start by saying we stayed here on a weekend that most of the hotel was taken over by guests of a wedding taking place in town that weekend. The first night the people above us were up several times to use the bathroom, I know this because I could hear their every move. The second night was the night of the wedding and the "after party" was at the hotel, so the place was alive well after midnight with drunken wedding guests. Ugh...again, not a place to go if you're looking for a quiet night sleep, you hear everything your neighbors do! The plus (and there was a plus!) was that during the day when our younger daughter was taking a nap, you could open the door and window and hear the waves crashing from across the street. We also had a "semi-ocean view" and could see the lighthouse from our room, which was nice. Perhaps we would have had a different experience if not for the hundred drunk people hanging out in the parking lot outside our room...just bad timing I guess. Also, the room needs major updating. They had old "tube style" tvs...the wallpaper was peeling in a lot of the room and the carpeting needs to be torn up...yuc! read more

Pros: The beach is right across the street. We loved the Adirondack chairs out front, so relaxing. It's nice that they have indoor and outdoor pools. Good restaurants are within walking distance. It's a 30 minute walk to the city center, so you are close but not too close. Cons: The hotel bar/snack shop stops serving at 9:00PM. There isn't much soundproofing when people sit outside and talk loudly when you are trying to sleep. The rooms are clean but dated and could use an update. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for the first time that was recommended by a family. The staff and general manager were very unprofessional and rude to brothers girlfriend and her family. My boyfriend was smoking a cigarette next to a stand up ashtray and was told by staff he was not allowed to smoke there and had to move. They should get rid of that stand up ashtray if people are not allowed to smoke there. We found a cockroach in the hotel room. The pool was closed on the first day due to someone pooping in the pool. I would not pay $250.00 a night to stay there again. read more

Biggest thing to take away from any reviews: Stay AWAY from the main building. Away. My hub and I visited this property a few weeks ago for his birthday- and we booked a suite in the detached building with a private pool and concierge floor. Worth it. The big building looks like a halfway house. This separate building for the suites is newer and clean- smells fresh and has private, garage parking. The only sucky thing about our stay is that we had the misfortune of being on the concierge floor (2nd) near the elevator- so everyone and their mom, and the housekeeping staff, was up in our business at the crack of dawn. Good thing I hit the vodka pretty hard the night before- otherwise the ruckus would have really been irritating. Huge suite, with a fantastic bathroom- glass shower and jacuzzi tub. The views are great and you have GOT to order from Anthony's if you want pizza or italian food. They deliver crazy fast- we had the rec from a front desk employee. I feel like I should preface my review by saying hi to management, as this is one of those hotels that instead of apologizing for anyone's crappy stay, answers every review, tells them what they did wrong and how it was their own fault. So, hello! My family stayed in the suites last year after the season ended and loved it. The pool was great, it's a short walk to the beach, the room was clean and the concierge room where we would get breakfast was out of this world. That was last year. We came this year about one to two weeks before the season started. No outdoor pool, but that made sense. No concierge room, we were told we could walk (not a walk of just a few feet) to the main building and purchase breakfast. Huh? Ok so now we're gonna have to just start going out for breakfast every morning. Housekeeping? That was a mess. I will start by saying for some reason the sheets gave me an allergic reaction so I couldn't wait to get out of bed and shower every day. My husband would have to track them down and ask for towels and coffee and toilet paper or make a list and get it from the main building on the way back in. Only once did we catch them to clean up the bathroom and take out two large bags of trash. I felt like we were squatting not staying in nice suites. When this was brought to managements attention they said we should have just said something because they keep "their Jamaicans" on site. So - if there's also an award for the most not politically correct hotel it can probably be given to this one. But once again - it was all our fault. That brings me to the concierge room, if there are people there in the suites building then why can't they just mind the room for a little while? We looked inside and it was stocked with cereal and the usual things. Unless those things have been there since they stopped using it last year. They also won't commit to what the off season is if we were there enjoying all these amenities in the off season last year. The decreased level of cleanliness in the rooms also leads me to look twice at the pools (which are always cold) and workout room. They also had unscheduled, surprise work being done on the parking lot - as management said since it was the first stretch with no rain. So they were tearing up the parking lot, then pouring a new one. Imagine trying to sleep in and all of a sudden hearing and feeling all of that commotion? Which, there would be no way to escape it because you could feel it all through the building. Quite the treat for my autistic child and sick father who were hoping to relax on vacation. When my mom reached out to the hotel, she frustratingly got the same answers that many people report. Patty, I believe her name is even went so far as to dismiss her and hang up on her. Not smart business with the number of hotels in the area considering they aren't even facing the nicest stretch of beach. For a bit of information, the beach is free. You can walk or drive to pretty much any stretch you want to hang out at, regardless of what hotel you stay at. I'm sure the fine people of Anchorage Inn will have many rebuttals but I felt like people really needed to know this. It's really a guessing game whether you're staying in their so-called off season or not and what kind of stay you will have. And if it's bad, they'll only tell you it's your fault. The hotel is in a great location, and the newer ocean suites are actually very nice. But the customer service here is pretty bad. I've stayed a number of times and in general they are just rude and un-accommodating. If you call to book and ask any sort of specifics- about the room you're booking, about any sort of specials going on, about anything other than actually booking, don't expect anything other than short answers or long silences. I'm torn because it's a good spot with a good pool, but really they need to work on making guests feel welcome!!! read more

I had a great stay this past weekend. This was my 1st time in York ME, and rented an Ocean Suite for 2 nights. It was pretty pricey but worth the money for the short walk to the beach, and our room was spacious and very clean. If you rent an Ocean Suite, you get free breakfast and free happy hour from 5-6 that has a few selections of wine and beer, we did have the breakfast which was bagels, cereal, pastries and yogurt. The other advantage to the Ocean Suites was their private pool and hot tub which was right outside our room and had less traffic compared to the main outside pool! The cleaning staff was always working steady and offering their services! I had no complaints, everyone was so nice and accommodating! They seem to have new method to access the pools by your key cards and have done away with the whole pool bracelets! Would definitely stay there again! read more

So, I was thinking that the cleaning would be superb during the COVID-19 times but if anything, they got worse. Hallway and elevators were disgusting. Food was on the elevator floor for more than a day. That tells me no one is/was wiping down the elevators, doors, handles, buttons or railings. Actually - never saw any of that happening during my weekend stay. Love this place ... have stayed many times but they are LACKING procedures that would make you feel comfortable staying there during these current times. read more

I was woken up both nights by the people in the room next to us who weren't even talking that loud. I won't be returning for this reason. If you can hear the person in the room next to you BREATHING - it's not worth returning. Very sad this was my experience. We stayed midweek summer so the price was better. Booked Our stay on Booking.com and once at the front desk upgraded to ocean view room without a problem for a slight up charge. Room was well appointed and clean and came with a small refrigerator. A small balcony was plenty enough to sip coffee and gaze out at the ocean view. Although we didn't swim the pools indoor and outdoor appeared to be in very good condition. They also share a wonderful restaurant the sun and surf that was an amazing treat that added to our delightful stay. read more

This is a great place to stay for convenience sake. No other hotel/motel/inn on York Beach seemed to offer this much convenience in its location. The drawbacks were the very small rooms, even though ours was in a fabulous spot, and the false advertising of the pool usage. We did have use of the great outdoor pool, outdoor hot tub, indoor pool, and indoor hot tub, but we weren't supposed to use the lap pool in the Atrium building if we were staying in the main building. This was extremely disappointing to my 11-yr-old daughter!! This info should be listed in their brochure and on their website. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

We used to love coming up here in the winter with a few families and let the kids get some swimming in. We have stayed here for the last 4 years. When we showed up to check in, I noticed a sign that said no food or drink in the atrium pool at all. I thought it was odd since it had never been a problem before. I asked if it was a new rule and if something happened. The older woman behind the desk snapped "New Years Eve happened! That's what happened!". I was a little surprised how she snapped it at me instead of calmly telling me there were some issues on the biggest party night of the year. During the day, workers would come circle the pool area and tell people that no food and drinks were allowed at the pool. They even made parents put away carrot sticks that their young children were snacking on! At 9:00, when the pool closed, you weren't even allowed to sit at the pool. I can understand if you don't want people to swim in the pool after 9:00, but they were telling people they couldn't even sit at the pool basically forcing people into their rooms at 9:00 at night. Too many new rules for us to come back here. Time to find another place to stay. read more

Just checked out after two nights here , first night both of us woke up with a sore throat Second night we woke up with stuffy nose headache and sore throats again so we checked out , didn't enjoy our stay at all the room wasn't that great , when we checked out we told staff about our issue and she didn't try to correct the issue and didn't apologize for the horrible time ,nor let us speak with management the pool was over used by kids so we didn't get to use them.
