Walking in smells like you walked onto the sea floor of the ocean and that's a wonderful feeling! They have a small, manageable selection of fresh fish. The day we went they had scallop, salmon, lobster, haddock, and some crab cakes and other seafare. They have a small pantry of seasonings, planks, and other seafood cooking items. By the entrance is a freezer of shrimp and other. We got standard fare: scallops and salmon. They had scallop chunks which are cheaper than regular scallops because they're the discards that have been cut up from the descalloping process, but they look, smell, and taste great. The man in charge was so attentive and really seemed knowledgeable about everything. Fun fact, they've been here since 1947! So in 2020, they've been here for over 73 years! Their Facebook is chock full of helpful seafood facts and it's just a really well managed family business. I'm so glad I stopped by and wish I had sooner.

The young cashier turns on the blinking light and we begin our wait This is my second lane, the others were way too long. Somebody over the airwaves calls for more cashiers, but fails to think about managers who could ok the purchase of alcohol. So we wait and wait. There was one young manager who looked of age, but wasn't. So me and the cashier wait more. .She apologizes. Finally, the lone guy that could check me out casually goes to 2 other blinking lights before coming our way. He obviously saw our need, but Instead of quickly coming over, he casually went to a station near the carts. He took his sweet time leisurely messing around it before slowly walking to our lane. He then said he was sorry for the wait. This is possibly the fifteen time I've waited too long to check out here. I'll pass on this place and go somewhere with better management. Thank goodness Aldi is here.

The produce can be hit or miss, but the mushrooms are always prime. Same with the fresh herbs. Massive lengths of garlic chives, absolute trees worth of mint, and lots of other weird and delicious leaves of various sorts. I was able to find plenty of pre-chopped frozen lemongrass, which I now will only buy frozen, becuase it's so fresh tasting and not as much of a pain to prepare. I made a soup where I used a full half cup of the stuff, which is never something I'd have done if I had to chop that by hand! Half the items don't have a price sticker or a sign that states the prices, but when you get to the register, they're happy to do a price check for you so that you know what you're paying. I'm assuming that with such a small physical space, and that variety of stuff, it's hard to constantly keep on top of prices on the shelves. If the cashier were annoyed at being asked the price, I'd not shop here, but I've always had them be happy to tell us the prices with no issues. Seriously though the selection is insane. There's stuff that I'd never imagine I can find easily in New England, but it's right there on the shelf. The noodle variety is great, with plenty of gluten free noodles for those who need it. Plenty of dried mushrooms and tea too!

I was greeted and seated immediately at a booth and enjoyed a nice local IPA while watching a baseball game. Ordered the catfish Po'boy and onion rings (because I finally realized that lobster just isn't my thing) and it was truly amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone in the Portland area looking to have some great seafood with personable service and maybe get your hands dirty a little bit.

I will say it is a tough comparison. It is a large restaurant with plenty of tables/booths and does have some decor to give you seafood and Cajun vibes while also feeling like a chain restaurant. Staff was friendly enough with no huge complaints, getting a water did take awhile when my wife asked for one. They do have a large menu and especially a large amount of options for seafood eaters. I had fried catfish which was solid overall while my wife had a chicken po' boy. She was disappointed and would prefer getting a po' boy elsewhere. Overall if you wanted some Cajun seafood or a seafood boil this could be the spot for you. If you are looking for this style specifically it may be your best option if you didn't want to go closer to NOLA. If you want seafood in general I think you can do better. I have had much worse food and experiences but don't see a reason to return again.
