Overall, it was a very nice experience. My wife and I split an order of paella. It was prepared promptly deliciously and the service was attentive. We got there around 5:30 PM and there weren't many other patrons. I'm sure there's lots of seafood places in town, but this is definitely a hidden gem if you like paella. read more

Spot-on paella - my comparison is with paella I enjoyed in Barcelona and Paella Seafood is excellent in the match-up. I had the organic chicken with paella because I do not care for calamari or octopus. FYI: Dahlia (sorry if I misspelled) is so kind & efficient - she says they can make the dishes without anything you do not want. I still opted for the chicken though I can envision a return visit for paella with some of the other seafood choices. Great visit and Delicious food! Came for the seafood paella at this namesake restaurant based on all of the glowing reviews. Unfortunately it was just OK. The mix of seafood was nice - mussels, shrimp, calamari and 1 very small piece of octopus, and the rice had the signature crisp, but the flavor was just meh. Nothing like the paella we had in Valencia, or even in and around Barcelona. Then you add on an interior that feels too cavernous and lacking any feeling of warmth, sleepy elevator music, and a computer print out of the drinks offered with no prices, I just wasn't feeling it. read more

Paella in Portland, Maine is now my "go to" restaurant. The food is outstanding. I've had the shrimp paella in the past, but my new favorite is the skewered octopus. It's absolutely, hands-down the best I've ever had. I dream about this dish. It is so tender, it practically melts in your mouth, and it's perfectly seasoned. My mate ordered it as well, and we spit an order of Spanish rice. Also, if you're tired of spending top dollar in town, and having to find a place to park- just 2 miles from downtown you'll find ample parking and no waiting. This is one of the best restaurants in Portland. Unassuming but perfectly prepared food every time! Head over there and support Casey (chef) and Dahlia (server). We came in around 30 minutes before closing and they were kind enough to take us. The food was great! We tried the seafood paella and churros. They were both great! The seafood paella was a great portion and full of flavor. The churros were some of the best I've had! This was the best meal we had during our time in Maine. read more

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! From the friendly prompt service to the most amazing food this is hands down one of the best restaurants we've been to. Lobster rolls are phenomenal, best we've ever had. Everything from the bun to the amount of lobster to the taste. Not to mention the fries that are their sidekick and the sauce!! We needed to order as a take out. The seafood paella was very good. The fried clams were ok but we really liked the steak fries. We haven't finished the other orders yet. We all drive down forest Ave if you're a Portland local and I'm sure you've seen this in passing. We finally checked it out this afternoon and we were more than impressed. We got all the small plated Paellas, chicken, lamb, and seafood which was totally worth it. It's a really good comforting dish with great quality meat and seafood. The shrimp and avocado ceviche was fresh and balanced well with our entrees. The dressing was a little mild, it could have gone with more salt or a touch of lime but other than that I was happy. The server was just lovely, I wish we got her name. Very sweet woman, not native to Maine. So glad we chose to dine here today. It's been on our list for a while and we will be returning! read more

Delicious stellar paella - we ordered the seafood paella after getting two appetizers (a huge portion of ceviche that was more cooked than usual, but still a great dish.....as well as a great bowl of seafood soup that was like a bouillabaisse). Honestly, you could order one paella dish per person for your main dish as they are pretty much individualized servings. Our paella had an amazing socarrat at the bottom - not an easy feat if you've made paella before like me. It's crispy, but it's absolutely not burnt or overdone. It's just quite simply......muy sabroso. If you go out for decor and service, this isn't the place - although we still thought our waitress was lovely (but clearly overworked and one of two people in the entire dining room). Ambiance is off not sure what was there before but not the right vibe. Staff nice and service is good. But overall the only meal that was really good was the beet salad. Finally, the curse of Raoul's has been lifted! After so many different mediocre food joints in this spot, we have a remarkable hit. I don't always agree with the Portland Repressed Herald, but their food reviewer was right saying this is the best paella in Maine. They still have their Maine coast fried seafood delights, but their paella is tasty, crispy seafood heaven. And it's customizable! I don't want shrimp for ethical reasons (except Canadian Gulf of Maine), and they happily doubled my mussels instead. There's also chicken, which our table devoured. Lunch on the warm, sunny deck was delightful despite being within sight of Forest Avenue. And it's dog friendly! Dahlia served with a smile and would love to talk to you about her life in Barcelona. Paella seafood just moved into a new space on Forest Ave, turning this once take out only space into a full fledged restaurant. We went last night during their soft opening and this is definitely a place I will be returning to. At a time when it seems every new restaurant opening is Asian-fusion-ish with over priced small plates and way too many ingredients, the simplicity and freshness of the seafood at Paella was a breath of fresh air. We started with the shrimp ceviche and it was wonderfully refreshing and fresh with tons of zesty lime juice and herbs. The shrimp was flavorful and most importantly the avocados were perfectly ripe. We then each got our own seafood paella dish with a side of garlic sauce and it was all SO good. Robust portions as well- I had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day! Even better- the price is right! To come by fresh, simple food with good portions at an affordable price is almost unheard of these days in Portland. What a truly lovely spot, with amazing service and food. My husband and I visited here on the anniversary of my grandpa's passing to commemorate him -- he always made the best paella when I was growing up! I really think he would have loved this restaurant. The paella was incredible, so flavorful and a good bit of crispy rice at the bottom of the pan. Fresh, tasty seafood, and a side of special house-made garlic sauce that paired beautifully with the paella. When I saw the name of the restaurant, I had to try their "signature dish." I was glad I did, as not only do they make their paellas enough for one person, but they are also very rich in content and seasonings.
