Made an appointment for a Tuesday afternoon. The shop was empty. I basically have a money piece and wanted my roots done but the coloring on the rest of money piece was a little uneven. i have been bleaching my own hair for over a year now but used a temporary hair dye for the first time when I decided to switch to having a money piece instead of bleaching my whole head. it was hard to section out just the front of my hair so i came in to get it fixed. the staff told me my main issue was just sectioning. they bleached once using vol 20 so it took longer than I expected to lift and it didnt remove as much of the temp as the staff thought it would. we ended up having to use a darker blue than i had wanted to tone with. my stylist made his own color for me based off what i told him i'd be okay with. i left with an electric blue which I didnt dislike but it was louder than i expected it to be. everyone here was lovely and made me feel comfortable. i trust their expertise on hair here. the only thing that makes it tougher to come back here regularly is that it was $180 to color just my roots for a money piece. i asked if the price would have been different if i needed a root touch up for my whole head and they said no. also i think they're cash only but allowed me to venmo which was nice. read more

I first became a client to this salon when it was known as &Hair Lounge NYC. I tried it again as a second-time client to &Plus Salon. Overall, Edison is a master stylist, focused and skilled at his work, and client-centric. However, I'm taking off two stars for the following reasons: 1. Customer service at the front desk is lacking. When I went to pay, I was met with cold stares. It seems to be the way to communicate at this salon. After I paid my bill (20% tip to the stylist and $2 for the washer), I was met with another set of cold, awkward stares, as if I were an outcast. 2. Edison treats his clients well, but when a scissor is missing, he stares angrily and coldly at his employees and interacts with them curtly. This isn't the only employee relations issue. After a visit to the salon and conducting further research and due diligence, I have more questions about the principles and values of the business and its owner than answers. &Plus Salon and Edison have two litigation cases regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act where he allegedly failed to compensate for overtime and claimed one of his 'employees' was a 'contractor' and a copyright plagiarism litigation case where the Japanese plaintiff said Edison allegedly copied her artwork and called it his own on Taiwanese or Chinese television. For these reasons, I wouldn't recommend this salon as a potential patron, employee, and/or contractor. read more

This a long overdue review! I went to Jamey years ago for a major switch to red hair. She listened to all of my suggestions for the specific hair color & for how I wanted my hair to be cut (as little thinning out as possible), and ended up mixing the perfect shade of red. Just never let Vincent Vincent Vincent! have your hair cut. It's kind of a nightmare. I'm really unsatisfied for the whole process. First, he is really arrogant and perfunctory about his customer. When you try to talk about the hairstyle you want, he just couldn't understand and is impatient. Second, as a barber, he has no idea and knowledge about the hairstyle at all. He even doesn't know how to make a Clavicle Hair, which is one of the most basic, most commonplace and most popular hairstyles. Third, the hair cut technique is really terrible. The only thing he can do is level with one cut. It seems he doesn't know how to do layer for hair and just with several cuts, no trim my hair. Anyway, I swear Vincent is the worst barber I've ever ever ever met. I think he should practice using wig, he is far from service for a guest. But go ahead for Tina, she is amazing! read more

This review is long overdue. Some places can barely manage a nice cut, much less color, but this place treats hair like art. I've heard horror stories from friends about going to get their hair colored and having their hair very badly damaged by bleach. Like another commenter said, this place knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to bleach and color. Definitely ask for Louis if you go. I went to Louis for my first hair coloring experience and I will literally never go anywhere else. I've been to this salon pretty often for 2 haircuts and 3 color jobs (balayages and ombré balayages). It's always a good idea to make an appointment beforehand especially if you need a specific stylist and definitely for color jobs which can take up to 4-5 hours. I have long, thick hair and my dye jobs take about 4 hours at minimum. The prices are on the higher side, but definitely worth it. Just make sure you carry plenty of cash! I typically stick to Jay. I LOVE MY HAIR! I found Hair Lounge after seeing their salon in an article and viewing their reviews on Yelp. I decided to stop by for a consultation, where I met Krystal (receptionist) and Sunny (stylist). I stated the colors I wanted my hair to be dyed which was lavendar silver or white. Sunny had noted that I was not wearing make up so he pointed out that with those colors, I would have to wear make up. I loved that he pointed this out because I had theorized so based on pictures I have found but was not sure! I usually do not wear makeup so it was a great confirmation from him and something I didnt even ask! He suggested an ash blonde for me since it was my first time bleaching my hair, lower maintenance, and a neutral color for my skin tone. I proceeded to book an appointment for a few days after. 2 days prior to my appt, I decided to get a haircut and received a bad one, which I then had to fix and was not sure if I should still color it (I read that dying it would bring out the hair cut, which I didnt want since it was bad). I called in and spoke to Krystal, who was very understanding, told me to still come to my appointment (the next day), so sunny would assess it and see if we should proceed. I continued to express my concerns of taking up Sunny's appointment time which she insisted it was fine and sunny would be honest with me. I came and was approved by Sunny to proceed. I also shared that I had to finish within 4 hours. Jay had initially assisted Sunny. He was very helpful, and social. He, then, had to attend to a client so Lily jumped in to assist. I get pretty anxious with small talk and new social experiences so I LOVED that Sunny and Lily did not pressure me to talk at all! Rather, I was able to sit and be anxious in quiet haha. Sunny was very informative and answered all the questions I had. Sunny and Lily were very sweet, focused, and welcoming. They were AMAZING. My sister was the one that had originally recommended this hair salon to me and I have been going back to them several times now. The staff is always so nice and the girls who wash your hair are amazing! If I can get my hair washed every few days by them I'd be the happiest girl in the world! Big shout out to KAZUKI!!! He totally saved my hair from a disaster that I got myself into. Now my hair is completely refreshed and I am super happy with it! My hair is very overdue because of pandemic, mostly stayed at home and while hair salons are closed I decided to mess my hair around with some box dye, it came out fine initially it but as it fades, my hair turned into some weird hue. Finally made an appointment with Kazuki after not getting my hair professionally done in almost a year, can't wait to get the mess fixed. Kazuki checked my hair thoroughly and determined that my hair was so damage and the box dye I used also made the correction process even more complicated . He suggests to darken the upper half of my hair and re-color the underneath part of my hair. I accepted his suggestion and let him work the magic out. The best in NYC, period. Kazuki and his team work the magic out of my hair and turned my super long overdue brassy hair into a beautiful hand painted ashy blonde balayage. Just like many others, my hair was left behind because of the pandemic, everything was closed and I've been wfh for the whole year. My hair grew a lot, the color turned yellow, not even purple shampoo would help. Couldn't stand for my hair any more and decided to sneak out of my apt and get my hair done. Definitely need to cut some length off, the tip was dead, and absolutely need to redo a full balayage and re-tone it back to an ashy hue. Got the first appointment in the morning to avoid crowd. I first heard about Ans two years ago but had recently been obsessing over his IG photos (his IG is ans0403) and finally decided to take the plunge and book an appointment with him. And boy, do I regret not coming to him for the past two years! Coming in my hair color was a brassy reddish brown and I desperately wanted to change it to an ash blonde. Ans was super patient and kind, and took time to thoroughly explain what my options were and review different photos with me. After the consult we decided to stick to a single bleaching process instead of double bleaching, since I was trying to grow my hair out and not damage it too much. Ans is truly an artist - he and his assistant treated my hair like a canvas and painstakingly painted every other strand of hair so that they would effortlessly blend into one another. I was worried as to how light/ashy we could get it with only bleaching my hair once- but Ans came through and five hours later, I was presented with a gorgeous ash balayage. My hair is PINK! Thought I'd give a quick update on color/cost since I've been getting a few DMs. Cost? It all depends on your hair. It's unfair for a stylist to quote you before hand since he doesn't really know your hair type/length. For an example, my hair absorbs dye well. Yours may not. Is your hair virgin? AKA has it been bleached before? By who? He may have effed it up and it'll be up to your stylist to fix the mess. Then it make more time/effort for the stylist making it cost more. So many factors go into cost. Although I can say you won't be paying $1K for your hair it is going to cost you a pretty penny. Color? YES. JAY CAN DO PINK & OTHER COLORS. Pro tip? Jay recommend OverTone to re-tone (color) my hair to keep it lasting longer. It does kill your hair so use it only when you really need to add color back. Absolutely terrible experience and customer service. This is my first review ever - I'm not the kind of person to write one but I can't even get a hold of the manager here to explain the situation. The person on the phone was completely unhelpful and very rudely hung up on me after I asked when the manager would be in. I came in for a balayage, which is something I've been doing for years. Slight nuance - I have two streaks of grey in my hair since I was a child, which I dye brown. I explained this to Kazuki, my hair dresser, telling him that when bleached it would turn reddish, and asked for his advice. In the past, it's always been a little reddish when I do balayage, which has been a bit of an annoyance. He suggested I do an ash blonde balayage, much lighter than what I've done before, to "counteract the red." Trusting him as the expert, I agreed. Instead, the two streaks turned redder than they had ever been before, and because the rest of my hair was light, the extreme contrast made it even more noticeable than ever before. I told myself I was overreacting and went home. However, after seeing it in different lighting, and getting other people's opinions, I knew that it wasn't acceptable. I went back to see what my options were. He suggested toning it a color with green in it to to counteract the red. Again, I agreed since he was the expert (I should have learned my lesson by now). When he uncovered my hair from the foil, he literally said "Wow I wasn't expecting that." He had turned the streaks nearly black, darker than my natural hair color. If you don't know what to expect then fucking test it on a small piece of hair. The cherry on top, he CHARGED me for this mess. I explained that I had come for a color correction, but he told me "I warned you about the red." Actually, I had warned YOU about the red, and this was the advice you gave me. Again, I was so taken aback in the moment, and had to go back to work, so I just paid and left. Not to mention they charged me over Venmo. I'm extremely upset with the outcome of my hair. I've called twice to try to speak to the manager and the person at the desk is useless. Clearly no care at all for the customer here. read more

Got my hair done by Kazuki. I wanted to lighten my hair and he did an amazing job! Normally it takes a couple sessions to get your hair to a certain "blonde" level without brassiness or damage. My hair is pretty ash blonde in real life compared to the photos. He did it in 1 shot. Amazing! Kazuki is really friendly and if you get talking with him you will learn that he is passionate about everything he gets involved with. Before I knew it time flew by and I was done! He's been a stylist for over 10 years. So, he definitely knows what he is doing. I will be booking him again on my next visit!
