Such a great experience here!! I called the day before and was able to get an appointment for the next day. I didn't have to wait at all after I got there. After I showed them some inspiration photos and they talked through my options, they started working on my hair right away. Andy worked on my hair, and I'm super happy with the results!! I've had lighter highlights for a while, so I think the warm-toned balayage is a perfect change for fall. It took less than 3 hours, which isn't bad at all in my opinion. The quarantine long hair look is indeed real, and arguably fatiguing, that I finally had to trim my hair this weekend to feel like a normal human again. I found 3D Hair Salon thanks to Yelp and it was 100% worth it. The humble price of $35 gets you a shampoo treatment, mini head massage, the cut itself, and some light styling done at the end. What a deal. My stylist was Andy and he did a fantastic job, and the other cuts looked good too from what I could tell. Re: COVID-19 measures, I felt completely safe in here with the hand sanitizer upon arrival + face masks + social distancing enforced. Two bits of advice: 1. Highly recommend that you make an appointment in advance to be safe since there are only four chairs open at a time (fwiw, they do allow walk-ins if a chair and stylist are open). 2. Ca$h tips for your hairdressers!!! You can pay the $35 with credit card but tips are ca$h. I did not have a go-to hair salon during my whole time living in NYC but now it looks like I do. I've been going to 3D Hair Salon for years to get haircuts and get single processes hair coloring and they usually always do a great job. However, I started getting highlights this year and I had a horrible experience September 2021. Since I had my engagement photoshoot coming up, I went to JUST get my roots touched up and my highlights toned/darkened again (asked for dark brown). The salon decided to bleach my ALREADY bleached hair and then processed to dye my hair purple (would later fade to blonde). It looked nice, but was NOT AT ALL what I had asked for. I spent over $260 dollars to get my hair ready for an important day and it was the exact opposite of what I wanted. I had to spend another $200 at a different salon to fix it. And on top of that, my hair is badly damaged from the amount of bleaching they had done. Will not be coming back here. I will say, if you're looking for a place to get a cheap and quick haircut or a single process dye, they're good. read more

With the abundance of hair salons in Chinatown, it's sometimes the biggest headache to narrow down where to get your hair done. I've been itching to try out balayage so I went here since my cousin highly recommended it. She's been going to the head stylist Henry for over a decade. After lots of social media stalking to pinpoint which color I wanted, I showed it to Henry and hoped to God I wouldn't have to bleach my hair. He analyzed my hair and said we can definitely just proceed with the regular dye. pHEW!! I was warned by many friends that it would probably be a 4 hour process and indeed it was. It's definitely alot of work to brush the dye on in a natural pattern and foil the strands. After the hair dye was washed out, you could barely see any color but as it started to dry, I started seeing the strands of caramel brown coming through. After a nice trim to get rid of any dead ends, Henry told me how curling my hair would bring out the beauty of balayage. I love it!!! I can't recommend the salon enough. Any stylist who is as meticulous as Henry gets a gold star in my books. read more

The stylists shampooed / conditioned my hair, trimmed off my split ends, gave me layers to lighten the weight of my hair, and died the tips of my hair purple / lavender (since I had some blonde tips remaining from a previous dye job 2 years back) Overall, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I showed Henry why I was so upset and frustrated, and Henry explained to me why the hairstylist handled my hair that way in the first place. Also, as he promised, Henry fixed my hair for free and helped me feel (and look) better. I truly appreciate his efforts in doing so and his sincerity and trustworthiness in doing things right in his profession. Been here 4 or 5 times now. Love that this hair salon is so low key. I've never had to wait for a haircut or blow dry and the prices are super reasonable. And they do a great job! The staff are kind and from Hong Kong. 3D hair salon is so much better than Mian Tian Sing (where they just want your money). PS. My visit to 3D Hair Salon was an absolute disaster, despite providing clear instructions and showing reference images of the desired haircut to Ken (the hair stylist), my hair turned out looking nothing like what I was asked for, not only was the haircut poorly executed, but it also super messy for a short hair cut and I had to go to a different salon to get it fixed. It seemed as though the stylist lacked any understanding of basic hair anatomy AND I was overcharged! the poster outside said $30 for style and shampoo, but Ken charged me $35; it appears that he charges arbitrary amount based on his whims rather than a consistent pricing structure. [WARNING: SAVE YOURSELF FROM TEARS] I've been getting my hair layered and thinned out for 15+ years, and have gotten it done at salons around the world. It's a pretty simple, standard cut that doesn't need explaining. Yesterday, (I waited a day to calm down) I had the worst experience of my life with a bad bad haircut. My stylist clearly has never cut hair as his techniques were not just rusty and shaky but wrong. You thin out thick hair by gradually shearing from the midpoint to the end. Instead, he went through my hair and snipped off chunks about 3" from my scalp. When I tie up my hair, it feels like I have hair loss from cancer. I'm left with no layers in the back, no face framing layers in the front, and chunks of hair cut off near my scalp. I calmed myself down after having the stylist fix the layers 3x then left before he could do more damage. When I walked into a store after, I started crying when I saw myself in the mirror. I called the salon after a few hours to see if they had a stylist that could do layers well, but they would charge me for another haircut. I'm going on vacation tomorrow and I'd rather be bald than be seen with this haircut! read more

My usual salon was booked solid for months out, so in my desperate need for hair services, I relied on your reviews and took the 3D plunge. 3D accommodated me on very short notice, the staff were completely pleasant and hospitable, and did a fabulous job. It's a clean, brightly lit, nice-smelling basement space that doesn't feel basementy at all. Even the bathroom was spotless. As a public bathroom phobe, I have a deep appreciation for such amenities. Alven, my stylist, did everything, down to the shampooing. He was meticulous and gracious, even to the point of using ear covers, a product of which I'd heretofore never known the joys. He offered me water, checked in on my comfort frequently, and gave me a heckuva great shampoo. Although everyone was very nice, this wasn't an overly chatty salon where you feel obliged to talk the entire visit. I appreciated that given how bone tired I was and how much work I'd brought to slog through. Prices were quite reasonable by NYC standards -- not the least expensive you could sniff out, but in my opinion fair, especially for the quality. For a $30 women's haircut, I shouldn't be expecting too much. The place is hidden in sight in the middle of Chinatown, but I followed the yelp reviews down the stairs and into the salon. Overall, a simple cut, just don't expect any frills or fine details. I made an appointment by phone earlier but they also accept walk ins. They politely took my bags and set them aside, hung my jacket, and gave me a shiny purple robe to put on before shampooing my hair. A young guy took almost an hour to cut my hair-- super focused and careful.. but when I asked for side swept bangs when I sat down, he literally cut my bangs with a single aimed snip, looked up, and then asked me, "is that too short?" No further work was done on the bangs! I was.. kind of.. really sad. He showed me the back of my hair which looked straight across, and when I told him I felt that the ends of my hair looked asymmetrical from the front, he told me it was because he cut the back of my hair in the shape of a U. I wasn't going to argue, but I wasn't very excited about how things were going. Le sigh~ The end result? Bangs looked nothing like the photo I showed him and quite derpy. The bangs looked silly and wild for a week but since then, my bangs have been tamed and look smoothly side swept as requested. Maybe it just needed some time to grow out a bit! A shampoo + cut is $30 for women. Check in, write a review, and you'll get 10% off! I told them it takes a while for me to write my (honest) reviews, so they let me pay with the discount without showing them a review first. (I promised to finish it within the day though!). There is no one I trust more to cut and color my hair than Henry. He always does an incredible job with my balayage or highlights - I've been coming to him for years! I redo my balayage every summer and he does such a fantastic job that I don't even need touch ups over the year. The notion of "the customer is always right" does not fully exist here. The stylist (not gonna mention names) was a nice person but such a Debbie Downer, focusing on problems rather than solutions and at the same time, was such an ass with a big ego. I made an appointment to have my hair curled via digital perm. The stylist went by the book and didn't take any risks. He said my hair is dyed and therefore it's too damaged to have it permed and that the highlighted hairs will fall off when it's done... which caught me by surprise because I know damaged hair when I see it and I had it digitally permed in the past when my hair was "truly" damaged. He later asked if I have a picture but I found all the curls and waves to be pretty much the same so showed him a few of the pictures on their Yelp page but he said those are not permed... those are styled... so talk about misleading pictures. Regardless, I got my hair digitally permed but what's awkward is that his helper only put the rollers on for 15-20 minutes and then put on the post chemical (balancer?) while straightening the hair, which makes no sense. The next day after I washed and dried the hair, there's absolutely no curls nor waves. It ended up looking more like a messy bedhead with tons of volume. I decided to call in, spoke with the stylist and request it to be fixed. Made an appointment, went in, and the stylist said his helper isn't in and she's the one who does my hair, so come back the next day or he can fix my hair but he would have to charge me again, which is a total jerk move. He later decided to fix it, but he had such an ego that he insisted that my hair is already curled after the wash and it can't go more than that. Because of that and on top of all the negativities and the "I am right and you are wrong" attitude, I requested a refund, call my regular stylist and went to my regular salon in Flushing. And upon walking into my regular salon, my regular stylist said my hair isn't damaged... and that it's just a bit dry from the previous perm. And he literally gave me a really tight perm and the highlighted hair was fine and still intact afterwards. He didn't even need to style it afterwards either and it's still bouncy and curly... read more

I went to this place to get a haircut couple days ago just because of all the high reviews here. However, I was super disappointed. I walked in and was served immediately with hair wash. After that, I waited with wet hair for around 40 mins to actually get the haircut. The cutting went ok except the stylist cut way beyond what I told him to (twice the length of what I hoped), even though I told him at the beginning do not cut it too short. And the layers are looking weird, some are too short, some are still long, it's a mess. I don't even want to look at my hair these days. What disappointed me most was that he charged $10 more than what shows on the price board outside of the store. The board shows that the regular haircut price is $28, but I ended up paying $40 without a notice. If I know the charge is actually going to be $10 more, I would go for a better salon who deserves that price. read more

First time I came, Henry seemed like he understood what I was saying when I showed him the color. We went over it and everything was in English so it was a mutual understanding. Spent over 5 hours at the salon only to be extremely disappointed and in tears. He even said to come back after a month or so when the color sets in. I cane back as the toner is out and it's so obvious how uneven the color is and he tried telling me that's how highlights are. He may do certain color okay, but highlights were a disaster!!!
