We have eaten here several times in the last six months. Jamal Romani and his wife Hanan Boukhari make incredible, authentic Moroccan food. Their restaurant was recently profiled in the Fall 2022 issue of "Edible Memphis" and details just how much love and planning they place in preparing their recipes. Some of the ingredients come from Jamal's father's farm in Mississippi. The restaurant has a closing period between meals, so I highly advise you call first to verify their hours! Some of the websites need to update their proper hours, but this is a systemwide/pandemic-related isssue. Trust me, be patient as it is worth it to sit inside the cozy restaurant and eat out of the terra cotta. There are also several tables outside for al fresco dining. We have ordered the eggplant puree, salad, vegetable tagine, and vegetable couscous. The couscous has a sweeter flavor base. The tagine has rich, hearty herbs and spices. Such a hidden gem. Located in an unassuming strip mall, Andalusia delivered some of the best food I've ever had Memphis. The Moroccan mint tea was sweet and warming, the chicken tagine was flavorful and hearty, everything was so fresh and high quality. We stopped by for lunch and it was pretty quiet. Absolutely fantastic. This was my first time trying any Moroccan restaurant and I don't know if I've ever had such a flawless meal. I ordered the Chicken Brochettes that came with rice and a cucumber salad. The chicken was perfectly cooked with amazing spices and flavor with hints of lemon. The rice and cucumber salad were equally as fantastic. The server was so kind and treated me like a very valued guest, almost family. I can't wait to come back here and try more items on the menu. There is a reason why Andalusia has over 100 reviews with a perfect 5 stars. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is divine, and the owners are in there working their tails off. The night we visited there were in the neighborhood of 30 diners, being served entirely by one person each in the front of the house and the kitchen! We ordered the eggplant purée appetizer, which is divine roasted eggplant served with homemade Moroccan bread, the Chicken Tagine, Vegetable Couscous and mint tea. My mother was raised in an Arabic country, so every delicious bite was straight out of my childhood. Do not miss the mint tea, served in a pretty little teapot and a fancy glass, Arabic style. And, the place is very spartan as far as decor or ambiance. But the food was excellent. Started with the Briouat, the savory Moroccan pastries of phyllo. Try the couscous and avocado milkshake. The Andalusian salad with a hint or sweetness is a good segue. Expect fresh ingrediants. The chicken couscous comes on the bone so ear carefully. But with it comes splurging flavors. Your GPS may lead you astray. If you are having difficulty finding it, then ooom for the DoubleTree by Hilton. This place is amazing! I went twice during my stay in Memphis. The first time I dined in an hour until close on a weekday night. There were two groups finishing up and it was just me in the restaurant for half my dinner. Service was quick and my server was friendly. I got the eggplant purée and the lamb tagine. Both were very tasty. I loved how fresh the vegetables were in the tagine dish, the lamb fell off the bone and was delicious. If I went back I would definitely get the eggplant purée and lamb tagine again. The second time I got takeout so I could bring it to work for lunch. I got the chicken pastilla and spinach berber appetizer. The chicken pastilla was very unique. It had a powdered sugar and cinnamon topping which was an interesting contrast since the rest of the dish was savory. If you are going with a group definitely make sure someone gets the pastilla! Have you ever tried authentic tagine? This gorgeous Moroccan dish is from Andalusia in Memphis, TN. One of the best parts about this new restaurant is how aesthetically pleasing the space is! It's filled with unique patterns and decor that all flow perfectly! The owner was also our waiter! He was super helpful, kind, and funny! The tagine was my favorite! I've always wanted to try this savory dish, and it was everything I wanted it to be! It's packed with perfectly cooked veggies like bell peppers, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, potatoes, peas, green beans, cabbage, and even olives! The sauce was beautifully seasoned and savory! It's also served with fresh, perfectly crispy homemade bread! The split pea soup was AMAZING! This was my first time trying this soup, and it changed my life. It's topped with olive oil and a pinch of spicy seasoning which really added an amazing smooth texture to the thick soup! Try dipping the bread in the soup! The eggplant dip appetizer was honestly not the best. It was pretty under seasoned, but you can definitely still taste the flavor of the eggplant. It does come with olives which helped the flavor! We also received some spicy olives with our meal and loved them! Super unique! The mint tea looked and tasted fantastic! It is pre-sweetened perfectly! Definitely give that a try! We found this place through Yelp and we're so excited to try Moroccan food for the first time. For appetizers, we got chicken briouat and split pea soup. My boyfriend liked the briouat. It was a bit hot for me so I didn't detect my flavor to it. I usually don't like split pea or lentil soups. I thought I would give their split pea soups a try. It was very interesting and flavorful. Nice touch adding the olive oil to the soup. Additionally, I got Moroccan breads with the soup. The breads were amazing. They also added spicy olives with the breads. Sadly, we are not olive people so we didn't really care about the spicy olives. For entrees, I got lamb tagine, and my boyfriend got chicken couscous. The chicken was very tender and delicious. The lamb tagine was absolutely delicious. I don't know how they did it. The lamb were super tender and did not have weird lamb smell. The vegetables were flavorful. I loved that the zucchini in the dish was not mushy and still had the sweetness taste to it. I finished my whole plate because it was that good. For our main dishes we got the lamb couscous and the chicken pastille. This combination was perfect. The lamb couscous is so soft and succulent. The meat falls of the bones and is tender and juicy. The vegetables are packed with so much flavor and are so delicate on the tongue. The dish is topped with raisins, which I was skeptical about but actually really loved. It added a nice level a sweetness that enhanced the taste of the dish. However, as much as I loved that dish the show stopper was the chicken pastille. It was the most unique and tasty dish I've had in a while. I was so skeptical about the sugar element because I'm not a fan of things that are too sweet but it ended up being the perfect sweet and savory dish. All the flavors mesh together to bring you a homey and filling dish. I've never had anything like it and loved every bit. Just a heads up it is a very heavy dish. What made the night extra special was the owner. He was serving us and everyone else that night and made sure that we had the best experience. We walked in the door a little before the normal dinner time on a Saturday afternoon to a near empty dining room. The place is very nice inside, you would never know you are in a strip mall restaurant. We where quickly seated by the very friendly staff who brought our lemonade and soda (no alcohol served here) and took our order. We ordered Moroccan Lasagna, and Moroccan Chicken skewers with rice. They where both above average, however the rice was slightly overdone and they could have gone heavier in the spices in the lasagna, but that is just my preference. Went some some friends who were staying at the hotel across the street for lunch. I was told that it is the first Moroccan restaurant in Memphis, and Memphis should count itself lucky to get a restaurant with such fantastic food. We ordered the eggplant puree and Briouat appetizers. The eggplant puree was silky and smooth and served with fantastic bread. It had a milder flavor that I felt was very appropriate as an appetizer. The briouat was fried to crispy perfection and the chicken inside was also seasoned with a lighter mix and dipped in a spicy tomato sauce that added a fantastic brightness to the dish. For my entrée I ordered the Kefta Tagine, and was blown away by the presentation. The clay pot and the food within looked and smelled inviting. The egg was poached to perfection, and probably the most perfectly poached egg that I have ever seen. The meatballs were on the small side but packed with flavor and Middle Eastern spices. It was served with bread that I used to soak up all the sauce until my plate was totally clean. It only lost a star for service. I am not much for complaining about service, but what we experienced was unacceptable. I understand that restaurants are short staffed, but after our food was delivered, we did not see our waiter again until one of us went inside to get him. There were numerous members of waitstaff walking around seemingly doing nothing. Our drinks were never refilled. Still, on the whole, a fantastic visit and I will be back. read more
