Ok, I realized I was a little hesitant writing about this barber shop because 1) I don't want to deal with crazy wait times 2) I selfishly don't want anyone else discovering this gem 3) I want Mena all to myself as a barber. Anderson Lane Barber Shop is one of the few proper barber shops I have discovered throughout my long life of 32 years. I can attest to only about four of them. Now don't get me wrong I've been to plenty of barber shops but they all have that modern twist to them. Anderson Lane is all about the haircuts and my heart skipped a beat when I stepped in to discover all the magazine subscriptions on the tables and an old fashioned 'no reservation, walk-in only' atmosphere. This is a true family barber shop and I had the honor of having my hair done by Mena. She is so damn hilarious and we had some great conversation. This shop is CASH ONLY so plan ahead as they don't have an ATM on-site. Mena was a force with those scissors and clippers and whipped me back into shape in no time. I just got a barber cut here. 1) The Barber smelt like booze . I'm 51 and know the smell very well. 2) I asked to have my hair rinsed not shampooed. The Barber shampooed my hair. 3) I go to pay and they don't take debit cards. I had to walk to a gas station to get cash out and pay a fee of $2.00 4) I go to pay and the barber says 21.00.. Best Barbershop in Austin Old school cuts at a very affordable price and the overall experience is something else! They really offer all of the little touches that you used to get back in the 50s and 60s. Plus a few new ones that are pretty cool. I get a high and tight or a flat top. They always get the fade just right. They have a vacuum system that sucks up all the trimmed hair which means no itchy hair down your shirt. But the coolest thing is they use a razor (incl hot towels and shaving cream) to shave it down to skin or clean up the edges. After the cut is done they use the old fashioned massagers for a neck massage before you get up out of the chair. Sometimes I get the full on head shave which is something else indeed. - hot towel treatment- super hot, right out of the streamer! - shaving cream - straight razor - neck massage You can't get this from many places these days.
