My hair was cut by Oscar. Firstly, the cleanliness of the place could be improved upon. It is in an old "strip mall" if you will and a cramped office space. They did a good job on my haircut but I wasn't pleased with the time it took to get my hair cut from when I entered to when I paid. Secondly, I had to pay in cash due to them not accepting my card. Came for the five-star hype. Walked away with, well, an acceptable haircut. Nothing about the experience was exceptional, and this review is really just a litany of mostly petty gripes. I honestly don't recommend reading it, but if you insist... I came as a walk-in and was told the wait would be 45 minutes but it turned out to be more than double that. The cramped campus location is weirdly configured - a shotgun series of separate rooms with no receptionist - you talk with the barber at the first station in the shop, which is a tad awkward and confusing, though hardly a big deal. I waited in one of the inner rooms, in pretty close quarters - think six guys total in a small bedroom. The bro banter was good, I'll give them that. And every guy I saw get up from a chair had a really good haircut - I can understand the good reviews based on that factor. I was underwhelmed with my cut, though. I chalked it up to me not communicating my wants well enough, no big deal. When I'm done and ready to pay I learn they're not really set up to accept credit cards. I wound up walking a couple of blocks to find an ATM and returning to pay. Meh, I needed the exercise. Barber gave me a card with his cell number, told me to text him for an appointment next time. Yesterday I texted him and got no response back. So, well, so much for Cyndi's, and so much for second chances. I'll cap off the laundry list with this: It seemed a little odd for a place named Cyndi's - a decidedly female name - to be staffed entirely by dudes. I didn't come here expecting to get my hair cut by a woman, much less some sexy girl named Cyndi in a pushup bra, but ya just can't escape that it fits into the overall theme of low-level confusion. What I came away with, aside from an "okay" haircut, was a series of minor gripes and inconveniences. No single one of these issues would have bothered me, but they kinda add up. The ambiance is welcoming and friendly, and I felt comfortable when I was waiting. Hands down, Cyndi does a better job than anyone on my hair. I've had numerous hair stylists cut my hair (at discounted rates from my sisters friends since she worked in a salon) but none of them came close to Cyndi. The cuts aren't cheap. The price matches the quality at something around $25-30 but it's absolutely worth it if you can afford it and care about looking and feeling good. Trying to be completely fair and honest, Cyndi does not seem to be in a rush. She genuinely seems to enjoy the conversation and the company of those in her barbershop and she will not rush the job. That being said, she will not rush the job so don't come in there expecting her to work at the normal ultra fast/stressed pace that others often have. Be ready for a casual pace and a fantastic haircut. Highly recommended! read more

I have been coming to cyndis for almost a year now after I had a bad experience with a nearby shop. Oscar has always taken great care of me and my haircut. Even though I almost always get the same cut, he has never failed to ask me what I am looking for and has always given useful input when I ask for recommendations. The new location is even better, the rooms, the lighting and the setup is fantastic. It is impossible to miss the rooms, past the clearly marked doors is a waiting area with a bench. The bench is right next to the work area of the three rooms occupied by all the different barbers. This shop is ran by independent barbers and has been for over a decade, part of the appeal of the shop to begin with. I love this shop, and I look forward to coming here every time. It is a busy shop so walkins are hard to come by but if you set up an appointment you'll be good. read more

This place is by far the greatest haircut you will get anywhere remotely close to UT. Cyndi has mountains of experience, and even just walking through the door, you'll immediately feel a mood boost. Strictly speaking about haircuts, whatever you want, she can do. She also has the expertise to help you out if you're not sure what would look best for you. I always look forward to going in and seeing her. The stories she tells are hilarious, and she definitely has plenty to tell. 100% worth. "Tank" is an excellent barber that knew exactly what I wanted w/ few directions. He takes his time, he's friendly, but above all he's understanding. He won't push anything on you (not even expensive products like other shops). I only get a cut every 3-4 months. If you're like me, this is the place to go bc you definitely your money's worth. Great barbershop! This little place deserves more ratings than yelp has for it. Being new to Austin I was in dire need to find a new go-to for my haircut and this is now the place! It's conveniently close to campus and Tas, my barber, gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. Typical barbershops are run-down looking and inexperienced, while stylists are very expensive and go over the top trying to make my hair "unique", which is not necessarily what I want. Literally the 3rd time this dude did not keep his appointment time. 1st cut went great. 2nd cut he rescheduled 3 times knowing I was needing it done on my lunch break then he didn't even show up on the last reschedule and had me sitting there for 20 mins. He offers me a free cut to make up for it. I take it and still pay him 15$ cause I don't want to be a jerk. 3rd cut went good. I Schedule today for 12:45 (booked night before) during my lunch. He texts and asks if we can switch to 1. Ok cool. I tell him I have till 1:30 and if that's enough time. No response. I get there at 1 and there's a guy in his chair, I guess he pushed me off for him. So I wait. And wait. Now it's 1:15. No way I'm getting a quality cut in 15 mins. So I leave. I won't be back. Good dude, good cut but he doesn't care about his clients time or need their money. Very inconsiderate and unreliable. Not how you should do business. I'm done. Best of luck with him. read more

She pays close attention to detail and makes sure that everything is even and properly cut. She spent a lot of time on my hair making sure that my hair will look great even when the hair grows in. Saw the great reviews on Yelp and wanted to give the place a try. Called on the phone to make an appointment with Cyndi, the main barber. Oscar picked up and informed me that Cyndi was not available because she had just had knee surgery. Oscar then proceeded to give me attitude when I asked for a barber that was good with scissors and for the nearest appointment time and he said that he was the only one who was available. Showed up 15 minutes early for my 2:30 appointment and didn't get serviced until 3:00. I told him what I wanted and showed him multiple pictures. He never once faced me towards the mirror to see my hair. I had to turn all the way around to see while he wasn't cutting. He didn't want to engage in conversation, only talking to his co-worker and other his customer about drugs and alcohol. To top it off, my hair ended up being too short and uneven and he said there was a $10 upcharge to pay with card. $35 instead of $25. I only had card so he charged me $25 for my first time. I might still want to try Cyndi when she gets back, who I've heard good things about. read more
