It took a while to get someone to help, and when a woman finally came out, there was only one other customer in the store at the time. She helped us find the right size boots, then wandered off before my son had finished trying them on. She didn't return to assist us with the skis and poles and instead started helping other customers while we waited. After nearly 20 minutes, she came out with an older gentleman, but instead of helping us right away, he went to help the people next to us, who were already being assisted, and then ignored us completely as he walked past. I was frustrated at this point, so I snapped and told him, "It's us. She wants you to help us." I apologized afterward and explained that we had been waiting for her for almost 20 minutes, watching her assist other customers before coming back to finish with us. He was very kind and helped us with the skis and poles, and I asked if there was a package deal for buying everything together. He went to check on it for us. While we were waiting, a woman's two toddlers were knocked over by some dogs that had appeared out of nowhere. The kids were scared and started crying. As the woman tried to calm them, I moved closer to the counter to put myself between the dogs and her children, and asked the woman behind the counter why the dogs weren't on leashes. That's when another woman came out of the back, grabbed the dogs (apparently hers), and then yelled at me to leave. I responded, "Your dogs knocked over children, and I'm the one who needs to leave? I came here to shop locally, and you ignored us for 20 minutes, only to tell us to leave now? This is the worst service I've ever had." Needless to say, I took my business to REI instead.

A little…read morelate to the game for the season (and perhaps the year with recent shipping delays) the employees at The Ski House were incredibly helpful in our search for gear in time for a February trip to Lake Placid, NY. After striking out at stores throughout Rhode Island, we found ourselves extending our search to Massachusetts and Connecticut. Most stores simply laughed when we mentioned we were looking for two full packages of boots, skis, and poles. The Ski House not only took our inquiry seriously but worked out a viable solution and game plan to help us find everything we were looking for. We worked most of our purchase out over the telephone, saving us precious time, gas, and mileage during our search. The Ski House gathered all of our ski equipment (minus the boots) based on height and weight and held it for us with a small deposit until we could get to the store for pickup. They talked us through the requirements we'd need in a boot and offered several suggestions on where we might be able to locate a couple pairs. With their guidance in mind, we found boots online same day that were compatible with the Alpina skis coming our way. Our excellent experience extended through to purchase. Everyone we encountered in-store was pleasant and knowledgeable. Our skis and bindings were set up in no time, poles measured and tested based on our height, and final purchase handled quickly and efficiently. Thanks to The Ski House, we were able to cruise the trails on our vacation in our new gear not long after!!

Turns out, they were cutting off my circulation after two runs. Three other shops confirmed they screwed up. Wasted $100++ trying to fix their mistake. Went back, and they ADMITTED they sold me the wrong size--then refused to do anything about it. No refund, no exchange, just pathetic and was told" buy new ones." Now I'm out hundreds of dollars with boots I can't wear. Incompetent, dishonest, and a complete waste of time. Avoid this place at all costs.

REI has great outdoor brands and a decent selection. Prices range and things can be on the higher-end but it's no more expensive than the manufactures sites. We are looking for, among other things, a smaller tent (ours is huge) that we can easily lug around with us and REI has a large selection. We signed up for their membership several years ago. Just tell them your phone number when making a purchase and you get credit for the purchase. We picked up a UV protective t-shirt as a gift for someone. It was reasonably priced imho, very soft and moisture wicking. Brilliant. I should probably get myself one too. BTW, the company no longer offers bags. None. So bring a reusable bag if you plan to shop here. It's just another way to reduce waste and be a good steward. Some of the prices can be high, but not everything. They sell Patagonia which is an expensive brand, as well as other, more moderately priced items. You just have to know what you want and what you are willing to pay. If you check out the bulletin board upstairs, they offer guided excursions that look really fun. I check out their selection of hiking poles as I am looking to buy some. Everything from really reasonable basic models to foldable, light weight pricey models. So you have options. They have pet items. Personal care items. Clothes and shoes are upstairs. So many types of water bottles. Camping items for both the thru-hiker and the car-camper. Check them out. They are a good resource and the staff are friendly and happy to assist.
