It's made from bees that feed on the nectar of the sidr (jujube) tree and is reported to have beneficial properties for gut health. We decided to visit King of Yemeni Honey, which is right across the street from Balady to sample their selection of honey, all of which are imported from Yemen. We were kindly welcomed and assisted by Noor, who led us around the store, provided tons of generous samples, and answered all our questions patiently. This was very helpful because nothing in the store is really labeled-- you either need to know what you're looking for or you need to ask for help. We settled on a nice quality jar of sidr honey as well as another darker one that Noor recommended for digestive health and the total came out to $85. Each jar holds about 500ml of honey and lasts one month with daily consumption. Overall, excellent quality honey with very fair prices. The sidr is intensely sweet with deep caramel notes and the other honey was light and floral. Highly recommend coming to King of Yemeni Honey for all your honey needs!

The sun hits these whimsical, almost 18k-gold-looking sculptures on their shelves, giving the shop an elevated feel. The shop is small- but it's the kind of place where you want to slow down and really look around. Manahel offers a nice variety of Yemeni honeys, each with its own benefits. I ended up choosing a ginger honey and another infused with lemon, while my mom went with the ginger for herself too. In addition to honey, they also carry oils for hair and skin, which was a nice bonus and made the shop feel more holistic instead of it being one-note. Let's talk price- it's definitely on the steeper side. The smallest jars I purchased were about $30 each. For me, it felt like it was for the greater good- especially since I teach and my students are always sick. It was quality, intention and something I'm actually using for my health and wellness.
