This is one of my favorite green markets to go to in Queens. They usually have a large selection of…read morefresh produce, lavender, fresh baked goods, fresh fish, honey and selection of yogurts. They are only open on Sundays so make sure to make it early to get all these great products. My favorite reason to go is to interact with the workers. My favorite employee is Pierina; she would always have a smile on her face and was always available to help. When I didn't have cash, she would help me with the debit and credit tokens. I have not seen her in a while so I am wondering what happened to her since she has been working there every Sunday since I can remember. I will try to locate her at other green markets.

One can find anything from flowers to herbs, spices, fruits, veggies, apple cider, Korean pastes, free samples, vegan baked goods, breads, cookies, fish, duck and other poultry, pig products, beef, assorted mushrooms, tamales (the one closer to 78th street is best, but if you're up for a sweet or dessert tamale, go to the lady on 80th), booze, syrups, honeys, NYC groups that take used clothing and textiles, compost, and a recycling book stand where anyone can take, swap, or donate books. It's also one block away from Travers Park which was recently updated. Great place to go for a stroll and enjoy. Happy shops!

Açaí bowls seem to be the trend nowadays, so I said, let me hop on the wagon too. I think this is a…read morechain & I've had their bayside location, which was good, so I am glad they have one in Astoria too. My go-to is the açaí bowl (original - classic size) just the way it is, no customization. I haven't tried their other bowls but the UBE & coconut sounds very good too! Oh yea, if you don't feel like chewing, they have all their açaí bowls in smoothie form too. Refreshing, vibrant, and packed with flavor. The açaí is smooth and slightly tart, balanced by sweet fruits and a satisfying crunch from granola. They also say their granola is "home made" which definitely adds that extra crunch. A light yet energizing treat that makes you feel as good as it tastes. Perfect for those hot NYC days...(and cold when winter comes).

I grabbed a Green Bowl (pictured; blended spinach, banana, mango, kale, and almond milk, granola,…read morestrawberries, mangoes, blueberries) for breakfast, subbing the coconut and honey for peanut butter and hemp seeds. The person behind the counter made my bowl quickly and got the substitutions correct. I got a classic size, and it was quite large, though expensive. The fruit was all very fresh, and the green mixture tasted great. I would definitely eat this again. The SoBol space was nice, though it was deserted while I was there. The space is designed for ones and twos, or small groups at most to eat their bowls or drink their smoothies, and then leave.
