Something out of a fever dream, we went to Holey Cream after a Broadway show looking for a late night treat. When we arrived they had a very limited inventory, although that's understandable given the time at night. The more concerning thing was that upon entering we were not greeted by the worker who watched us come in and who we made eye contact with, who was also watching video on her phone in the back while she saw us come in at that. Also, she had a baby with her on her back in a baby backpack, which while we understand the need to take care of your child, we cannot see how that is a good idea when working around open food. After standing there for 30 seconds she came up to us and said "are you ready to order?" and we quickly got our oreo donut and left. The donut was okay, not great but not bad, certainly would've been better if not left out in the open all day, assuming it was freshly made that day. Two scoops in a cup was only $6.50 (or something like that) and the scoops were not small. They offer more than they regular flavors and even have different donuts that you could make an ice cream sandwich which. Be prepared to take it to go as they do have a small (1 or 2 people) sitting area outside of the restaurant. I've always thought I had a sweet tooth, but after Holey Cream, I'm rethinking it. If you love sweet treats on top of sweet treats, then this is the place for you! I don't know if I'm a grandma now or what, but the sweetness of both the ice cream and donut in the ice cream-donut sandwich that we got was way too overwhelming. I'm surprised I even ate half of it. It was the sweetest salted caramel ice cream that I have ever tried! The vanilla glazed donut with sprinkles was okay. I hate to say it, but I think I prefer the donuts from Krispy Kreme over this. While I do love desserts, I think I prefer a more subdued sweetness or at least other flavors (like a stronger saltiness in the salted caramel) to balance it out. With all of the possible flavors out there for both donuts and ice cream, the ones offered here seem pretty basic. This also makes the $8.75 price point for an ice cream/donut sandwich seem steep. $5.25 for the smallest size of ice cream is crazy too, and it's only upwards in price from there. I know it's New York, but it still seems wild to me. While I found Holey Cream disappointing, I hope that those who love being surrounded by sweetness come here because I'm sure they would enjoy it! read more

Already 2 stars for open late and the courtesy response. The doughnut display (see picture) looked enticing but I was on a milkshake mission. A patron was being served and they ordered a fruit loops doughnut. The server took a blank slate of a doughnut, dipped it in this amazing warm glaze, which did remind me of the KRISPY KREME curtain glaze, and then proceeded to add the cereal toppings (2 more stars for the idea coming to fruition and the process.) The server proceeded to accompany the dressed up doughnut with 2 scoops of ice cream. I was amazed at the amount of sweetness and shocked. Now people, we all know that this is an establishment that focuses on sugar, so as with everything else in life, choose your menu items responsibly. Don't blame the establishment. It's a DOUGHNUT and ICE-CREAM SHOP for God's sake! And being that we are all adults, we're responsible for our decisions. When It was my turn, I was allowed to taste a few of their flavors , and get this, my server was pleasant, patient and polite about it. I was convinced I was in Canada. To make a long story more long I went with my go to combo, a cookies and cream with a tart flavor, except the strawberry was coupled with a cheesecake so the tart was blunted by the cheese. I went with the next possibly tart flavor and that was the blueberry. Rolled the dice on this combo. Blueberry with cookies and cream, yup, probably the first on this combo but I'll tell ya, even if it tasted like plain milk, I'll take it because who gives that sort of customer service at 1245am in NYC ?
