Matt was our mechanic for two different vehicles and was fantastic. Speedy diagnostic and turnaround on the work when we really needed it, they came through in a clutch for us! We received advice on future decisions that was objective and fair, not "oh bring it in and we'll see". While they do offer limited services (they don't have a balancing rack) it doesn't impact their exceptional customer service and mechanical skills. We'll definitely use Andrew's again. read more

Over the weekend I heard my car make a shuddering noise and then, while driving up a very steep mountain in stop and go traffic for almost an hour, a service light come on. I called Andrews and they were able to look at it within 24 hours and gave me a call early the morning after I dropped it off. They were so incredibly kind and completely upfront and honest. They didn't even charge me to take a look at the car, drive it around a bit, or run basic diagnostics; while other auto repair shops here quoted me up to $150. For the first time I had my car towed in due to brake failure this morning to Andrew's Automotive, I was in constant contact with the shop, to make sure my car arrived, considering that I did not go with the tow truck, all the reps that I spoken too where at most professionals, I was quoted one price and it was much less then original price, I thought that it was going to be much higher then the original quote to begin with, considering it is a much older car anyway. read more

A friend first recommended this mechanic in Winston, and I'll never go any place else. I had take my car there a few times when minor maintenance was required, and they gave me advice without any charge. Once they even referred me to a muffler shop that could make the specific repairs cheaper than they could. But this week, Andrew's saved me from selling my car. My car started bucking on my way to work and I took it to the nearest mechanic. He told me I had a blown head gasket that would cost $1500-2000 to repair. I thought the car was dead. Hoping for better news, I took my car to Andrews for a second opinion. Bill at Andrew's took my car for a spin and confidently told me that he could have it fixed up in a few hours. I'd been a customer at Andrew's for several years on the recommendation of a friend who is related to Bill, the owner. My business was just down the street so it was convenient to drop my car off, and walk to work. I thought as a friend of a relative of Bill's, of course he would be honest. Then I ran into a friend who said her father, an airplane mechanic, thought that Bill was among the best mechanics he had ever met and she would not go anywhere else. Then I had to give him a try! My experience has been terrific and I would not go anywhere else, even though I now DO live out of state. I currently need a repair that a local mechanic (recommended to me) quoted as $600. Knowing that I will be in Winston Salem in a week, I called Andrew's and spoke with Curry, Bill's son. When I described my problem and the quote, he said he would look into it and call me right back. When he did, he said he could totally blow that cost out of the water, by more than 15%, maybe more! Why wouldn't I wait and bring it to them? (Labor cost is a large part of the difference - $99 here, $65 in Winston). That said, having a prior relationship and knowing these guys and their honesty is an even larger part. He was very responsive, knowledgeable, and gave me an appt the day after I called. He was a good communicator. He was thorough. He was helpful in identifying what was necessary to consider, giving clear explanations of the rationale. He was very good with processing cost/benefit considerations. I really felt I could trust him which is so important when buying a car from a stranger on Craigslist. read more

5 stars isn't even enough to give this place! My dad recommended this location to me as he went to them for years before he moved out of state and insisted he wouldn't take his car anywhere else if he was still living here. Last time I had car trouble, the dealer quoted me $1500, which I thought was ridiculous, so I took my dad's advice and took it here. Andrews fixed it to perfect condition in 2 hours for a little over $100. Then, more recently, my car started stalling out whenever it was in idle. I left it at their shop on a Saturday and noticed they had a sign that said they'd be on vacation all of the following week, so I made arrangements to have another temporary vehicle for 7 days. Early that next Monday morning, they had called me and already started working on it. The gentleman (John, I think his name was) worked on it for three days (on his vacation, on top of that) and couldn't get the car to re-create the problem. He said he could fix what he THOUGHT the problem was, but didn't want to charge me for a "maybe" fix. So he walked me through my options, recommended that I come get it and keep driving it (that way, if it happened again, they'd be more likely to figure out 100% what the problem is), and didn't charge me a cent. They're wonderfully fair with their prices (probably to a fault) and their staff couldn't possibly be kinder or more professional. I would recommend this place to anyone for miles! Even if I moved to a different city, I'd probably still insist that my car be cared for here. Amazing place! read more
