I needed to access the crawl space of our house today and was reminded of what a bad install job our flooring was. A whole lot of duct tape has been used to cover up the shoddy work and thankfully an appliance covers the crawl space door so I don't have to look at it. Horrible company, stay away! He billed us for his wife to come up with design ideas we didn't want or ask for. Then they showed up with the wrong flooring and acted like we were being difficult when we told them it wasn't what we agreed on. The flooring was installed poorly and was rushed. We've called them back 4 times to do repairs where tiles are coming loose, each repair has resulted in the surrounding tiles being loose. It's been 3 years now and I've stopped calling them for repairs since they only make things worse. I've suggested that they change out the whole floor, they push back and offer repairs but their 'repairs' make it worse. At this point my options are go to court or live with loose tiles. Rocco is their lead guy, he's as shady as they come. Stay away! read more

This is a follow-up on previous, I wish it was a positive and redeeming one, but as of today, the owner, Rocco Norton, has not honored the courts judgement. Rocco lost in small claims court a few month back and cried for a new hearing because he cared so little for his customer, that he did not put the court date on his calendar. ("The dog ate my homework"). Well not only did he lose in front of the first judge, but the second judge also awarded a full judgement against him. I have now emailed him and his office manager to arrainge payment, but of course, no response from either. Considering the cost of advertising and negative press, you would think he would pay the$2000 judgement and at least be get reviewed for doing the right thing. Cop of the judgements below. read more

We hired Andros to replace flooring in our condo in Santa Barbara, which I was managing from out of town. Glen was very nice and responsive as we awaited the estimate and selected materials. Once we had placed our down payment, communication became more spotty. The ANDROS office had a power outage the day before installation so they shut down. That makes sense. If i had known, though, it would have been better. Instead, they didn't let me know and did not bother to use their mobile phone to just give a call and confirm installation the next day, which would have relieved some stress on our end. When I finally spoke with Glen the morning of installation, he was defensive, aggressive, and rude. I don't know if this is just his tone, or intentional, but on the receiving end - he was just rude. I was not able to be in town for the installation so we left a key for ANDROS to enter and do the installation. When I arrived a day or so later, there were several dings and a lot of dirt and hand prints all over the freshly painted space. I called ANDROS to let them know that 1) the flooring looked good, but 2) I was surprised and disappointed with the paint dings and dirt and hand prints everywhere. Glen answered and was combative and dismissive and rude. He offered to send his guys over to touch up the paint. I told him I'd prefer to have our painters fix the issues and have ANDROS reimburse us for the cost. He got angry/raised his voice and said "we don't have to do anything, I could show you in the contract you signed that we don't have to do anything, but we can send our guys to fix the issues." I declined, and pointed out that painters paint, and flooring guys install flooring, so I'd prefer to use my painters who have the proper skill set and who I trust since I've seen the quality of ANDROS' work. Glen asked me to send photos to Maria - their admin - so that they could see the issues. Frankly, I do t have time for ANDROS', specifically, Glen's negativity and aggressive nature as we wrap things up. I am having my painter fix the issues and will cover it out of pocket because I don't want to deal with Glen/ANDROS again. I just thought that after spending almost $4000 with them, they would have been able to cover the cost of fixing the damage they caused to our fresh paint and woodwork. Bottom line, they do an okay job. The flooring will be alright. They don't do a great job. ANDROS is by no means an easy company to work with. If you have to use them, I'd advise that you don't work with Glen. Customer service and manners are lacking. read more

In 2018, when we wanted to remodel our bathroom, we came across Andros, who informed us that they did much more than just flooring, but could also remodel our entire bathroom. After shopping around and getting a few estimates, we decided to go with them. Being new homeowners, unfortunately we did not check yelp before going forward and were in for nearly a year of deception, neglect and hard lessons. I will share those lessons here: The Company Initially, they put forth a very nice facade. The owner, Rocco, came by the house, brought his dog and some family members, and presented a very wholesome, family business "we care about you" front. It was the perfect psychological move (especially the dog) that conveyed sincerity, and integrity. Once we signed the contract, it also marked the last time we would ever see Rocco. LESSON: Don't fall for the first impression. Timeline We could never get a clear start or finish date. If in the end you decide to use this company anyway, Do not let them start without telling you when it will be done. And build into the contract deadline penalties. Yeah, they're gonna tell you about delays and "the way the industry works", but as the customer, you can build contingencies into the contract as well. LESSON: DO NOT allow the work to begin without an estimated completion date..in writing. Workflow Initially (the first week), there was bustling activity. The crew seemed to be on the job, steadily making progress. Looking back, it was basically demolition work which is fairly easy. Then things started to trickle down from a crew to a single worker. The main worker they sent was as slow as you could possibly imagine. I mean SLOW. And not because he was a master craftsman who needed time to do intricate work. I mean, 2 weeks to paint the bathroom. 2 WEEKS. I would watch him and literally see him do two brush strokes and then take a break. Toward the end (coming up on Christmas now), my 9 year-old daughter jumped in to help him finish the painting! Prodding and encouraging did absolutely nothing to speed this guy along. He really started taking advantage of the situation and loafing off: showing up late, leaving early, or not showing up at all for days at a time. I even came home one day to find he was working out in my home gym!!! Eventually we did hear from Rocco (after sending off a fiery screed of an email) and he gave us the soothing "We care about our customers" boilerplate PR response. He committed to fixing the situation by doing a walkthrough of the job and getting to the bottom of things. He never showed. But he did send a "fixer." Enter "Mr. Fix," the one who's going to take over the daily operations of the job and get it on the right track. He strode in with confidence and assurance... all set to make things right. He disappeared 2 weeks later. No more texts, all calls went to voicemail. He finally responded and told us we were on our own and to take it up with Rocco. Thanks Mr. Fix. LESSON: A bad work ethic cannot be fixed. Craftsmanship The thing about hiring a contractor (and the reason references are so important) is that you simply don't know the outcome, so you trust in the contractor to do their best. And if this was their best, they are shoddy at best. The craftsmanship was far from the superior product they proffered initially. Corners were cut, and when it came to the final trim work, we really had to watch them like a hawk as they were willing to let unacceptable flaws go through. for instance, during the baseboard installation, one of the baseboards was destroyed. No problem, it happens. But their solution was to "patch up" the damage as opposed to swapping out the baseboard. ??? No bueno. After nearly a year (the job started in the summer of 2018) I decided to finish up myself and be done with Andros. Summary Overall I learned that this company was far from what they presented themselves as. They were NOT reliable. They did NOT treat us with honesty and transparency. Their invoicing was very sloppy and at times flat out non-descriptive... you had no idea what you were being charged for. As an example... we received an invoice saying that it cost $2000 to paint a closet! A closet. A 5' x 10' walk in closet. We asked them about it and the charge magically disappeared. I would have much rather worked this out in person, but the owner simply would not respond. So, here I am on Yelp. In the end, I really, really REALLY wish I had read the Yelp and Angie's List reviews before giving them my money. As someone new to the whole contractor game, I was made aware of the fact that this industry, being so loosely regulated, is full of skeevy, shady types who will look to take advantage of you with no moral or ethical compass whatsoever. As a parent, I always try to impress on my kids the importance of integrity and keeping your word. And we use Andros as an example of how not to be. LESSON: Buyer beware and proceed at your own risk. read more

I was told they had a new kitchen cabinet display at a discounted price due to the decision not to install it. I met with John and Rocco to see the drawings and discuss how the cabinets could be reconfigured to fit my space. They then asked me to pay $850 for 4 hours of design. I gave them a check. They then came to my house with the same drawing as the display and said to use it even though it did not follow the plan discussed previously and did not fit the space. They were in a rush to leave but wanted to come back a few days later to open the soffit to check what was behind it. I started to feel their process was scattered. An hour before they were to come to look at the soffit they called and told me they would not be coming but an employee would come and I was supposed to pay him $200 for ripping open the soffit. They had not mentioned a charge previously. They also said someone else was interested in the cabinets, but I had first right of refusal so I should make up my mind. I decided that their process was not working for me so I told them I was no longer interested and they could sell the cabinets to the other buyer. I asked for the $850 back because they had not produced a design for the kitchen. They refused saying they had spent hours (including before I gave them the check), but there was no work product to show for it. The bottom line is I did not buy the cabinets from them because I felt I could not trust them or work with them. read more

I lied. It did get worse. The day they came to install the rug Andros sent out two men. The younger of the two seemed very inexperienced. Before they left they managed to break a light covering on the ceiling and a wooden stand up cabinet that goes around our toilet. They did replace the light covering after we asked them to do so. Not so with the stand up cabinet. They got out their staple gun and stapled the top and bottom back. They did not fix the cabinet door hanging half off the top hinge and ripped away on the bottom. The 4-Star rug is still shedding and completely clogged two separate vacuum cleaners, each twice in a couple weeks. This is a tight commercial weave, not loose shag. Will not recommend. read more

Totally Unresponsive Store Owner I used to use Andros 40 years ago when Jim Andros ran the business. Boy, things have changed. Right after the Thomas fire and flood, I had two separate jobs done. Rocco, the owner came out to measure and knew the carpet I had chosen from his store stock. One job came out okay, however, a 60' X 4' long hallway using an expensive commercial carpet was a disaster. The installer had trouble laying it in the first place and when completed it looked good for about two weeks when major wrinkles began to appear. Apparently, the backing on this carpet is so stiff, that it was unable to be stretched widthwise in the 4' wide hall. This is in a residence and gets very little usage. They sent the installer back out to restretch and again it held shape for another few weeks. Since that time I have taken several pictures and communicated with Rocco and the best he had to offer was a store credit for 50% of the price. Rocco never once came out to view the issue and discuss with us. I voiced my concern to another carpet dealer and was informed that Andros is supposed to guarantee the install for at least a year. I have owned hundreds of apartment units and carpet installation is not something I am a novice too. After zero satisfaction and zero personal contact with the owner, Rocco, I requested a total refund of merely $1400 and the removal of the carpet. I gave them two weeks notice to accomplish the request and told them of this posting and the filing of a Small Claims suit being filed. To make the refund easy, I even sent them a PayPal invoice to no avail, so here is the one-star review and the case will be filed next week. Apparently, I should have paid better attention to the average Yelp reviews. read more

Hoping that taking the time to write this review will encourage people to make the right decision Here is the story, I authorized purchase of two boxes of wood flooring from Andros Floor Design. The owner said that this flooring had been discontinued and that I needed to buy two boxes even though I only needed one. I approved it because I thought it would be a good idea to have extra wood in case I needed it in the future. Unfortunately, the additional box was taken by the provider after the work was done. I am disappointed because I was charged for two boxes and only 15 square feet where needed (each box has 31 FT2). My contractor tried to contact the provider about the missing wood without receiving an answer. After 5 months of waiting and two additional attempts to contact them I decided to go there personally with the intention to understand what was happening. After going there a second time I was told that they didn't have the wood and provided no solution to the situation or explanation. I was expecting to receive at least a phone call from anyone in the company but this didn't happen either. I reacted very calmly to the lack of respect and treatment from the companies' staff and told them that I would be filling a complaint at the District Attorneys office. This situation could have been avoided with a follow up phone call or a different response from the companies' staff. The unwillingness to take responsibility or provide a solution to the problem is unacceptable. I will not be acting with integrity if I let this situation go by, that is why I am taking action and encourage anyone that experiences this type of situations to do the same. read more

My wife and I wanted to replace some area rugs in our house. We just wanted regular carpet rather than oriental rugs or something like that. We looked at their samples, but Glen mentioned that they had quite a few rolls of carpet in stock that we could look at also. We found something that they had on sale that we liked, so we got a great price and since the carpet was in stock, we received the finished rugs in a few days ( that made my wife very happy). If we had ordered something, it could have taken as much as 2 or 3 weeks. What a joke , complete conartist and liar the so called sales manager Glenn. His estimate is twice as high as my other two quotes. The quality of the product is horrible . If I'm going to pay top dollar I want top quality. There store is gross . Rats running in the show room. Freezing cold and a smelly dirty dog running around. Just a complete joke. Then demands cash. 10 years ago Andros did fine work in my home, but now I'll never go back. They botched the installation on a simple bathroom marmoleum job: they laid a bumpy subfloor, left sloppy edges (with a tear in one), and left door transitions unfinished. The installer shrugged it off and blamed his crew. The owner, Rocco, came to view the work and offered to re-do the whole job himself the following week. I put other contracted work on hold, but on the promised date I heard nothing from Andros. When I contacted them, I was told the flooring hadn't even shipped yet. No one bothered to call me. Rather than reschedule the other work again and risk more hassle, I paid my contractor to fix what he could. Andros: shoddy work and shoddy service. read more

We had a great experience with Andros for carpeting of our house. Glen was super helpful and knowledgeable with carpet selection and pricing. We had a serious problem under a floor in a commercial business from mold and rot. Some contractors wanted to fill in the crawl space with solid concrete at a cost close to $25,000. They wanted the commercial tenants out for TWO months! Others refused to do the work due to the mold. Andros was a dream. They handled the entire problem and eradicated any rotten, moldy wood in the subfloor and treated wood for future mold and rot. The final product looked gorgeous. Plus they came in on weekends and worked around the days the business was closed so the business only lost TWO days of work! Amazing. My highest recommendation!. read more

We had wood floors put in throughout our house which look great. Unfortunately, we had a lot of problems with the floors badly buckling and Andros was slow and resistant to fixing. There was a mis-communication with the floor trim at the installation but he worked diligently to fix it, even willing to paint the trim and install it after the fact. I had an awful experience with an extremely rude and unprofessional salesman (Glen). I had carpet installed in 4 rooms. 2 rooms had a big visible seam. One was right down the middle of the living room. After waiting 4 months for the seam to "calm" per their instructions, I contacted Glen to get someone to come out and look at the seam to see what they could do to fix it. Glen, who only saw a photo of the seam, yelled at me and told me that the seam was acceptable. I had to call the president of the company in order to get someone to come out. They had installed the carpet improperly. The seam was separated in places. Service fixed it. A salesman should NEVER tell a customer, who just paid thousands of dollars for their product, that they are wrong. read more

The flooring I chose looks good and the sub-contracted installer was great, BUT the owner of this business was EXTREMELY rude and aggressive, yelling at me his customer(!) in a most abusive way! I was so shocked by his crazy outburst I actually had to ask him to leave my home! I have since heard that he has a reputation for aggressive and unreasonable behavior and the installer has also since refused to work for him. I have NEVER encountered a vendor like this before and it was particularly unpleasant in my own home. I hope he gets some medical treatment, but I advise you to take your business anywhere else if you don't want to risk an unwarranted, ugly scene in your home. read more
