John Ramirez helped us install 2000 sqft of luxury vinyl plank at our home in Santa Barbara. He was the first flooring contractor I called, and, after speaking to a few more installers, we went with him for a few reasons 1) he was upfront with his pricing 2) he worked with my budget 3) he got the job done in rapid time and fulfilled his promise. As an extra bonus, John is a general contractor and we ended up hiring him to paint the interior/exterior of our home and do some electrical work. There were a few setbacks with painting and electrical, however, it happens with a big project as a lot of different workers and trades are involved, but John would always own up to his or other people's mistake and make it right. I am a fan of John Ramirez/Goodland Floors. He came to our rescue and removed a section of laminate flooring that had been cut unevenly at the sliding closet door. Our original installer cut the boards (poorly) rather than removing the door track and then laying the track over the installed floor. Obviously Mr. Original was too lazy to do this. John came in and removed the poorly cut pieces and replaced that section so that now the floor is done properly.. Yeah! He also finished off the top of the stairs and figured out how to cover the transition from floor to tile that were very different heights. Well done. He is now coming back to install a backslash for us. I am very glad that we found him. read more

I was in charge of renovating my moms condo which included doing the floors. I was on a tighter budget for this renovation and turned to Goodland Floors. John said to go pick out out the floors we wanted and put them in the condo for at least 24 hours (so the new floor acclimates) so I went to Home Depot and did just that. The next day John started the job and before I knew it he was done! My mom was really happy which made me happy. John is a craftsman with integrity. Rudely inconsiderate!!! Woke up on Thanksgiving at 7:58 to hear their machines running. Asked them at first kindly to stop work on a holiday. They said they were working 1/2 day today and that they waited until 8 am to start.....I said, no you woke me up and I looked at my clock. They said....OH...it was 7:58. Not 8 am and I can't imagine the gall of some owners having them work on a holiday. We live in close proximity...townhouse. I will be reporting them to the city tomorrow. read more

I left work early today (which is not an easy feat) to meet John at 3:00 at my mom's house for an estimate to install flooring. I left him a message earlier in the day to confirm our appt. I waited until 3:35 (after trying to reach John a couple times as I waited) but unfortunately he didn't show up and did not contact me despite me leaving him messages. John and his crew did a great good replacing our flood damaged flooring with a waterproof vinyl plank flooring. They needed to remove all of the old bamboo flooring and 65 year old flooring down to the concrete slab and start new with the vinyl plank flooring and still let us live in our home. I'm sure if the home was empty they would of had an easier time, but he understood our need to stay in our home while replacing the old flooring. His prices are fair and his crew are great. I was traveling overseas at that time, and he was very patient with me and was able to provide us a quote as soon as I returned home. We wanted to start work right away since we our furniture/stuff had not been delivered yet and it would be much easier to redo the flooring without our items in the house. He and Kyle started working a week later and worked through the weekend so that we had enough rooms done to deliver our furniture and start unpacking. Extremely hardworking team and doesn't rush and cut corners. John also helped me grout the bathroom floor where the transition to the bedroom flooring didn't quite meet. I have now used Goodland Flooring for multiple projects and can't recommend them enough. Our first project was to update some bathroom flooring. Goodland Flooring was the first to respond of many companies I contacted and John came out to take measurements that same day. We had quotes in hand within a day or two and the cost was very reasonable. John even worked with us to leverage his partnership with a local flooring warehouse to get better pricing on materials. About a year later we wanted to update the floors throughout our living, dining, and kitchen areas. Again, John and his crew delivered superb quality work on time and on budget. They even came back for a quick follow up to do some of our stairs when we had extra material. Our next (but probably not our last) project is a remodel of the same bathrooms that John originally worked on. When I told him that the floors needed to come up for the other Contractor to start work, he made time to come over and make sure that the material was carefully and professionally undone, and did so at no charge. We'll definitely be having them back to reinstall everything but that's just All of the guys at Goodland Flooring are dedicated and willing to spend the time to make sure the job is done right. Great experience with This company. After being referred to them by a friend I cautiously used them, turned out to be the best decision I've made in a longtime. First of all, the quote was affordable which is always nice, SECOND- the work turned out amazing, couldn't be happier with our new hard wood floors! That's pretty much all u ask of a solid company, But then I had one more request....this was the tough part.... I needed them to work on Thanksgiving......AND needed them to start at 8AM so The job could be finished in time to show.......never thought this would fly, but figured I'd ask anyway.... They said NO PROBLEM! I was shocked......Then to top it all off they started the job 5 Minutes Early, on a holiday! Hats Off to this hard working local company. Inexperienced / poor quality equipment / and the good communication stopped when they started setting the tile - - - The reviews on yelp definitely do not reflect our experience with John. We trusted them to know what they were doing, and within hours it was clear that they did not. Their saw was poorly cutting our tile, they used the cheapest possible thin set, the spacing was way off all over, and some tiles were set so much higher than the tiles next to them, that you could cut yourself on the corner. I was shocked. It was a renovation nightmare. I'm no expert, but since then, we have talked with 3 other tile companies to find an experienced installer, and All of them said that Goodland must not know what they are doing at all. They didn't measure properly, they didn't set chalk lines, nothing - they just started laying tile. Luckily we were able to review their work around lunch time, and were able to pull up the tiles and salvage most of the tile. We had to replace a huge section of Hardi board in order to get the subfloor ready for tile again, which costed us hundreds of dollars. We also had to order some new tile and because this was our kitchen, it meant that we couldn't install our appliances or use our kitchen for 2 additional weeks, which is really not fun. Bottom line, Goodland did terrible work, and it cost us time and money - instead of getting a beautiful new kitchen floor. Maybe in 10 years they will have the experience necessary to do a good job, but for now I would recommend hiring one of the many experienced tile installers in the area. Huge mistake. read more

We contracted with John Ramirez, Goodland Floors in January 2017 to demo our floors prior to kitchen remodel and then come back after kitchen was remodeled to install a glue down engineered hardwood. The demo went smoothly but when they came back to install floors, one of his staff, Kyle, failed to show up on multiple occasions. That was the beginning of what has become a complete flooring nightmare. John eventually took over the job and finished the installation himself but there were hollow spots that they promised to fill and never did. No less than 2 weeks later, the floor began to buckle in multiple locations and there were hollow spots all over the place. After contacting John, he had an inspector from an outside company evaluate our slab for leaks, moisture content etc., but no leaks were found and our property had consistent moisture content. it was determined that he would need to rip out half of the floor, new baseboards, and other trim pieces, and start over. This was due to faulty installation on their part and had nothing to do with materials or moisture. John then had his main installer, Michael Elliot, come to work on fixing the problem. There was a month delay getting the new flooring material and a couple weeks after that Michael began the reinstall. They left our walls/drywall and trip pieces damaged, glue on cabinets and doors, and brand new baseboards looking years old with scratches, dents, other types of damaged areas. Within 2 weeks of the floor being installed for the second time it starting coming up/bucling again. We immediately contacted John and Michael and they each said they would come out to see it. Neither of them showed up and further communications attempts were not responded to. They have basically abandoned the job and we are left with a floor that is buckling in multiple locations, hollow (not glued down), and unsafe. We have had 2 General contractors and other flooring installers provide their input and give estimates. They have all said there was an installation issue (not a materials issue) and that the whole floor will need to be removed/demo'd, subfloor/slab scraped and reprepared, and then over 800 square foot of new flooring replaced, in addition to replacing trim pieces, drywall, baseboards, glue removal, and painting. Over the course of 2 months, John either did not reply to most of our communications or did not show up 18 times after our floor started buckling. This does not include all the time his employees did not show up for the original installation. John Ramirez and Goodland Floors are very frustrating to work with - poor communication, poor work ethic, slow response to any issues, incomplete work, incompetence, and flat out lying. We are currently in contact with the Contractors State Licensing Board and trying to get reimbursed through the contractors bond company. There are many reputable flooring companies in town, stay clear of this one. read more
