My friends and I decided to go to André's for their last month of operating at this location for lunch. I was told it would be less of a wait @ 1:00, but one friend thought maybe 11:00 when they open. As you can likely guess, the line was long as was the wait--over an hour! Service was great, despite how busy they were. I ordered the shrimp salad (which I'd never had) and it was delicious. The shrimp was cooked well and the flavor was tasty! For dessert I had the Raspberry Chocolate cake--so good I really wanted another slice! Despite how busy it was, I could still hear my friends over the low hum of other diners and the hustle and bustle of the servers and staff--a pleasant dining atmosphere anyway. Never knew Andre's offered a lunch menu! Seems like a well-kept local if you know you know type situation. Although, it is advertised online, on social media, etc. So, it could be just me. Anyway, a friend and I met up on a Saturday morning, around 11AM, and thankfully we snagged two seats at the side table/bar! We got some of the last seats before a rush of people came in. There was quite a long line the entire time we were there and even as we were leaving. Parking was also quite hard to find as it is limited and the lot is shared by the other businesses next door. All to say, come early! Their lunch menu included a main dish, 1-3 sides depending on the main, dessert, and a drink. Since it was cold out, I was in the mood for some tea. Their tea selection was more expansive than I expected. It was hard to choose, but I ended up going with the Raspberry Tea and would get it again! They also offered coffee, soda, and iced tea. I was recommended the Quiche Lorraine, which came with 2 sides. My sides of choice were the green salad and carrot salad. The quiche first of all was a huge portion, and honestly, I shouldn't have finished it but kept eating because it was that good. It wasn't undercooked or runny, and it wasn't overcooked or dry either. The crust, which I equally enjoyed, was flaky and had the perfect texture. The salad and carrots were a nice, refreshing addition to the quiche. For dessert, my friend and I shared two desserts: Napoleon - layers of flakey puff pastry with vanilla cream and whipped cream topped with pink fondant icing + Hollander (I believe this was the name) - almond cake with apricot jam in a butter cookie shell. We were too full to finish it all, but we enjoyed every bite. The store itself had a wide variety of chocolates, pastries, and other goods for purchase. This is one of my absolute favorite spots in the area and always my first stop when I'm in town. I love that there is a new menu everyday and my favorites are brisket and vol au vent! The quiche lorraine is also always a good choice. My favorite sides are the carrot salad and green bean salad but most of the sides come with the same dressing that is creamy, tangy and amazing so they are all really good. You really can't go wrong with dessert but my current favorite is the napoleon. Service is always excellent. I always remember Andre's as a lovely lunch spot with good food. My experience was disappointing. Service was very slow, especially for a sandwich that was already made, in the case. That sandwich, on a brioche bun, made the turkey and Gruyere cheese cloyingly sweet. It was oily, rather than rich, due to the mayo and butter spreads. The sides? All three (beets, cucumbers, garden salad) were dressed in a thin, white dressing, which made all three taste the same. On a positive note, the green salad was fresh and bright. To call this a chocolate store, although it is a truly epic one, is doing it an injustice. André's is also a Swiss bakery and cafe that serves delicious cakes, pastries, quiche, coffee, soups, and daily specials for lunch. I have been a fan of Andre's for about 2 decades now and it seems to be getting better and better for me. I used to have lunch in the tea room with my sisters all the time at the Main St location and am so glad they have one closer to me now to do pick up lunch. This time was grilled salmon with remoulade, it includes 2 sides, choice of dessert and a drink. For the sides, I went with the green salad and carrot side to stay on the leaner side since dessert was also included. I also picked up a bottle of Andre's creamy Oil and Vinegar dressing to have for later. For dessert I opted for my absolute favorite, the rumball. They only have the rum balls at this location on Fridays and it rolls over to Saturday. For my drink I got the unsweetened raspberry iced tea, it was so light and refreshing. During such tough times with covid, I'm glad to see that Andre's is doing their part in setting standards for social distancing and keeping everyone safe but also offering so much to accommodate our needs and wants. Oh the childhood memories walking up the hill from the plaza to Andre's for a treat. Yummmmm and 40 plus years later just as good. Since I cannot go to Switzerland and get their sweet goods, my aunt took me to this chocolate/confiserie shop right in town. Their design is very unique in that they have flags of different countries. What caught my eye was the open space with loads and loads of handmade chocolates and sweets! They have truffles, liquor chocolates, nutty chocolates, cookies, bars, cakes - something for everybody there! We decided on an assortment of chocolates! My top 3 was: dark chocolate truffle, pecan cluster and buche (hazelnut and praline). The whiskey one was a little shot of alcohol enclosed in chocolate. It was super strong for my taste, but I brought one home for my dad to try! As for sweets, we got the mailander, matterhorn and swiss chocolate cookie. My favorite was the cookie - it has a creamy base texture with a generous amount of pecans layered on top. I couldn't resist, so I got one filbert soufflé to-go for my sister! It's a chocolate ganache hotdog with a hazelnut meringue bun. All in all, this place is outstanding. I would recommend enjoying these in small amounts and with lots of water! read more

Disappointed with myself I have not reviewed Andre's before. This has been our dessert/pastry place for years! Love everything about it- the Leawood location is perfect- and the pastries I think are the best!! My favorites are the napoleons(they often run out if you go later in the day :(), lemon tart, the chocolate raspberry- and omg the almond cookies! Basically everything is just great; be it the pastries- the cakes or cookies! The people working there are friendly and welcoming- and it's just a nice place overall! Oh and we do lunch there off and on as well. Whenever we do I have loved whatever I had; we have to check the menu for the day though and make sure there is a choice for me (we don't eat pork). Most recently I had the turkey sandwich- which I think was the cutest (to look at) and yummiest I have ever had. My husband and daughter had the chicken pot pie and mushroom soup- they both liked it! The menu changes daily and it's so fun to decide on which dessert you'll choose, at the end of your meal. Their lunch, is $18.20 (with tax, but before tip). This includes : drink, bread, entrée (several items to choose from, but always 2 specials - calendar available online), with salad, veggies AND dessert! Everything is super flavorful and, they have the kindest people working there too! Sometimes, you might have to wait in line, but while you're doing that, go peruse their pastry or chocolate case or look over which frozen entrée item you'll want to take home later. Food was delicious and the fish was better than many expensive seafood restaurants I've visited. What I didn't expect is a dollop of overt politics served on the side. It was unsettling to see servers wearing political buttons. I don't think I've seen that before in an upscale local restaurant. It takes away from an inclusionary atmosphere. Best piece of quiche I've ever had in my life, and I order a lot of quiche in restaurants. I don't think you'd get a better one, unless you were in France. I think a stick of butter oozed out. The carrot salad was meh, didn't have any raisins in it, thought it was supposed to. My mom had an amazing slice of the raspberry torte, and I had a dark chocolate covered meringue. Dear lord. I love meringue, and the center had chocolate ganache. Over the top treat! They have a great selection of ore-made soups and quiches to go, as well as cake, pastries, macaroons, and truffles. I would give zero stars if I could. We used to love this place, but the customer service has gone completely downhill. No one would make eye contact with us when we sat down so we had to wait until someone looked our direction. Once a waitress came to see us, she acted as though we were the last people she wanted to wait on. My mother ran a restaurant for 34 years, so I understand the ups and downs of the business. As local business owner myself I also understand the times we are living in. Once a couple years ago and then last weekend to try their lunch. I cannot remember what it was or how to pronounce it but it was friggin amazing! It was some sort of creamy chicken with puff pastry.
