Panache is a Country Club Plaza staple, and I'm thrilled it's still here and going strong after so many decades. Last time we were in though, the chocolate dipped Oreos we got were underwhelming. Maybe they'd just been on the shelf too long? I've had better tasting ones at TJ Maxx. They remodeled not too long ago and it looks very sleek and modern. It's a small space, but it's well laid out and there's room to walk around & browse, as well as a few chairs to sit on at the bar. There's usually tables & chairs outside too. Came in here with a group if buddies because we initially wanted to sit on their outdoor patio furniture but it was only for patrons. Having some time to burn we had their flight of whiskey. For 20 dollars we sampled 3 different whiskey paired with 3 distinct truffles. Now knowing me I'm a 1 corona type of guy, so to be sipping on the whiskey seemed a bit much for me But there's 3 whiskeys tasted really good and was very smooth. The truffles were excellent ehich are hand made by the chocolitier in the back, thus their name. The flavors had depth and were so rich. Also the entire time she was extremely personable and friendly. In fact the friendliest restaurant person we've met in Missouri. She is extremely knowleadeable about the wines and liquors as well as the chocolates going into extensive detail and back story about the different items. Also the majority od things are sourxed from local areas, even the whiskeys. Granted things are a tad expensive, but ur paying for the knowledge and experience which is well worth it. Posh chocolate truffles and colorful macarons displayed like diamonds in streamlined cases. A sophisticated black and white and chocolate brown color palette dotting the walls with shelves full of edible gifts doubling as decorations. Flakey baked goods and a full European espresso menu as well as a considerable amount of ice cream flavors, also part of Panache's repertoire. If sweets are what you seek while meandering the classy Country Club Plaza then Panache is your department store of choice. The truffles are $2.50 a piece however, there are plenty of boxed sets available and pre-wrapped for purchase. There are unique local artisan collaborations such as an urban winery series and the Union Horse Distillery series that I sampled recently. The Union Horse truffles were each made with either the Bourbon or the Rye Whiskey and mimicked the flavors of a classically created cocktail. I went with two of my favorite drinks to order when out, The Old Fashioned and a stiff Manhattan. The Old Fashioned truffle was made with the KC Bourbon and honestly, I was a tad bit disappointed because I couldn't really taste the butteriness of the bourbon. Overall this truffle was pretty one note and sweet, couldn't really distinguish the citrus at all either. Out of the two truffles I tried, there were a total of six in the distillery's series, the Manhattan was out of this world. The tart pop of cherry in the center of the rich dark velvety chocolate was a moment! And the Rye whiskey actually shined through and gave a tickle in the back of your throat, meaning you tasted the liquor here in a non-overt manner. Panache's truffles are quality made and you can tell by the perfectly executed outer shell that shatters as you take your first bite but also, by the way the chocolate melts upon direct contact with your body heat. It's the real deal, no faux chocolate pearls in these cases! Washing down the decadent rich truffles with a good old-fashioned soda-counter style limeade is a tradition of mine. It reminds me of stopping by Panache on a whim with my Grammie during the Summer months because she would be fixing for a limeade. The refreshing beverage is nostalgia through a straw and isn't overly sugary sweet making it an actual thirst quencher during outdoor shopping excursions. read more

I love this place. About 15 years ago, I came in here and ordered a Chocolate Phosphate. I moved away from KC and have tried to recreate them myself (not as good) and tried them every time I found one on a menu (not as good.) I came in tonight during my evening Plaza stroll and was so delighted to find that the phosphate tasted just as I remembered! I think this shop is: 1. Cute 2. Quaint 3. Nice staff 4. Great chocolate phosphates lol 5. Also, cute sitting area out front I feel classy whenever I come in here... and I think the prices are reasonable! Definitely worth checking out. read more

I was on the Plaza, and Sara D. and I stopped in Panache's. Conversation as follows: Me: Cool, you make lattes, can you do latte art, like rosettas? Clerk behind the counter: No, we don't do that. But our chocolate is really good. Me: Italian sodas on the menu, what's good? Clerk: We can make it any flavor on the counter. Strawberry and cherry are our most popular. So, I anticipated a yummy strawberry Italian soda, and ordered it. I watched as she had to go to the back to get some cream, a new carton, and began to mix it. I didn't see how much strawvberry flavoring she poured into my glass. She seemed rushed. (Why? we were the only people at the counter.) I watched as she poured the cream, then the club soda, then the strawberry. I paid for it, and we left. I stirred it up, and shouldv'e said something. It tasted like club soda with a bit of cream. I kept stirring it, and it was a nice pink color, but I still didn't have a strawberry flavor. At the end, I noticed a tiny taste of strawberry. It was butter, and awful. I'm not a chocolate lover, it gives me migraines if I eat too much of it, and there's better places for drinks on the Plaza. Small and decadent - I rarely eat here. Chocolate to me doesn't need to be so elaborate, such a fuss, you know? I am a women - so I would be lying to say I don't love Panache, it's just a little 'inconvenient' for me usually when I'm on the Plaza. If I'm hungry - I'll go eat at a restaurant. If I want a sweet drink - there's Starbucks or Latte Land or Scooter's Coffeehouse, take your pick. If I want something sweet - I'll usually want ice cream from Cold Stone or gelato from Balsano's. Panache is rarely my first thought for any of my sweet-tooth needs (Topsy's makes some great fudge for half the price). However, I always love to look around the small store on all the weird things they've formed out of chocolate, like a woman's like and bust - real classic. I love the samples, hate to be glared at for taking one too many, but I understand - I bet they get a lot of 'grazers' as we called them at The Better Cheddar. For me, chocolate is always good and the more the merrier - but Panache is never my go-to and I don't think it's too many other people's go-to as well, but perhaps I shouldn't assume. It's like shoe-box small - which adds to its appeal. Double chocolate ice cream and I are now in a pretty serious relationship, so I'll be updating my facebook page to reflect this delicious union that couldn't be more right for one another. Panache is a cozy lil spot on the plaza and I imagine many a cute couple throw waistlines to the wind on account of being so crazy happy in love. Human beings tend to make terrible life choices but choosing chocolate will never be one of them. Chocolate behind you, in front of you, sizes, flavors, small but mighty Panache is. Indoor and outdoor seating area. This last time we sat on the patio with our double chocolate ice cream cones surrounded by beautiful flowers and watching all the people during the plaza art fair. It was a happy life moment. Initially I went in wanting the double chocolate ice cream blended with espresso and ice but they don't do blended drinks. It's just a personal preference but the blending of my two loves coffee and chocolate, kah-ching!, just saying. This time also tried the chai chocolate ice cream. I was expecting chocolate ice cream with chai spice, reality, vanilla ice cream with minimal chai spice and a couple small flakes of chocolate. Hot cocoa is awesome and Im looking forward to cooler nights with a cup while strolling the plaza. Last year I do believe they were open for the Thanksgiving night plaza lights and fireworks. Their are a lot of sweet shops on the plaza but this is a personal favorite. High quality chocolate, speedy nice staff. I walked into the store & saw the counter with a good selection of truffles. These gorgeous, delectable bites ranged from having champagne to peanut butter in them-therefore to entice every taste bud. $2.50 per truffle but so worth it! The wall was lined with prepackaged goodies that would be great for presents & I will return to grab some as stocking staffers. I figured since you can't taste them (apparently their ingredients are uber fancy, so I was told no to samples) and I didn't want to go for something out there, so I opted for a basic peanut butter. Asked the gal helping me for 3, but was told there's no box for that size, so either I'd have to use a bag (um no?) or have to purchase 6 - fine. After signing my receipt I was waiting for her to grab me a bag for the chocolates plus a candy bar I also purchased, but she started checking out the lady behind me instead... Awkward. I'd like to leave after my purchase.... Getting home the next day, we tried the truffles and we both were disappointed. A Reese peanut butter cup taste better honestly. Trying to figure out how this place is rated so high. Figured out the reviews for the Leawood location are mixed with the plaza location. I cannot speak to the Plaza location but the Leawood location is very underwhelming. The staff was not extremely helpful - just directed us to a wall of prepackaged chocolate. Did say the chocolate caramels were award winning - must have been a different batch from ours which were extremely grainy. The mix of berry truffles were not labeled so no idea which flavor we were eating. Bought 6 chocolate covered Oreos, 6 truffles, 6 chocolate caramels and a small bar of pecan chocolate for $60. Way overpriced but don't worry - it's topped off by the flip over IPad asking you for a 15%, 20%, or 25% tip for something you grabbed off the shelf yourself. read more

My girlfriend told me first thing this morning: "You have to write a review for Panache." We were not impressed. Maybe it was late and our treats would've been better fresh. But they weren't great. They weren't even good. She got a brownie and said it tasted like "sugar." The service was well-intentioned but offered odd advice. I asked about their cheesecake and was told it should be served with caramel and pecans. I have no problems with caramel or pecans... but it doesn't do much for allowing anyone to taste the actual cheesecake. I'll put a disclaimer to this and say that maybe we just happened to order the worst items on the menu. I'm not against giving it another shot, but probably not for a while. read more

This place is so delicious! I was able to go to a truffle tasting there where they had all sorts of yummy truffles, wines, coffees, ice cream, and desserts! I was thinking about giving Panache only 3 stars, but really...when it comes to customer service and quality of product they deserve at least 4. First, they had about 5 things to try for free, and brought out more for me to try just for the heck of it (chocolate covered popcorn, chocolate corn flakes and chocolate oreos to name a few). Second, they had cupcakes!!! I guess they had just started carrying cupcakes a few days before my visit, and while the cupcake itself wasn't amazing or anything, I commend them for their effort. (This was about 2 months ago so I am unsure of where their at with their cupcakeness as of now). For cupcakes you got to choose the type (vanilla or chocolate---I chose choc, duh) and the frosting--I think there were 3 or so choices, and then a topping---another 3-5 choices, I chose baby reeses, like BABY BABY. It was good, but not super-duper. If you're into chocolate, I'm sure you'll give this place 5 stars because it is into good chocolate. I don't really go ga-ga over the stuff, so a 4 will have to suffice for now. read more

Customer service is perfect. But, if you're on a tight budget, then you'll probably think prices for these chocolates are a little high. It's understandable though considering all the work they put into hand crafting each unique treat. As a college student, I would probably only purchase from here if I'm looking for an exquisite gift item. Panache has been undergoing renovations (it has a more modern feel). After getting the opportunity to meet the owner, I learned that more new changes will be occurring including an expansion of the menu. The layout is still pretty small with only two rows of high benches and a long row of booths to sit at. There is also only one register. So, it might be best to come here during non-prime time hours if you are claustrophobic. The employees here are very knowledgeable about each of the chocolates and were very happy to answer any of the questions I had. I was surprised to learn that some of the chocolates are made with wines or spices and even bits of flower petals. There were some more chocolate items towards the back which included chocolate-covered marshmallows, cookies and chocolates sculpted from differently shaped molds like coins or in the shape of a bar with the word "Kansas" on it. Apparently, they have tons and tons of different kinds of shapes so they can do any customized order you might want. In addition to the specialty handmade chocolates, Panache also serves coffee drinks, smoothies and ice cream. The prices for the coffee drinks are about the same as you'd find at any other coffee joint. I've yet to taste the chocolate treats and other menu items served here, but some day it will happen. A group of us stopped here on a whim last night. We were in the area to enjoy the nice weather and some window shopping. So when I noticed there was a chocolatier, we had to check it out! My husband immediately ordered a coconut macaroon drizzled with dark chocolate. At first I thought he was crazy. I don't usually buy macaroons in a store because I find that they're usually dry an crunchy, as opposed being moist and heavenly when I make them at home. However, my husband and Panache proved me wrong. It was indeed moist and heavenly AND drizzled with dark chocolate. We also tried a truffle, the dark chocolate turtle and the English tuffles. Expensive chocolate. 3.5 stars. Food: 1) Chocolate Malt - with pieces of chocolate chips, literally almost made me fall over from chocolate and sugar overload.
