Okay so I've been visiting the Jalapenos location a few doors down from Sweet Caroline's since the 90s and have often wondered about this place. This past fall after dinner with my parents, in my third trimester of pregnancy, I found myself craving some ice cream so we thought we'd give this place a try. Oh my god, how I have been missing out. The first thing you should note is that they sell many homemade chocolates, which I think must be what they are known for, as it definitely is more of a candy/ chocolate shop than an ice cream parlor. All of the chocolates looked wonderful, but I was craving ice cream, and it was a warm October night so that's what I zeroed in on. What really excited me is that they carry Silas and Maddy's ice cream. Like, what? I have never seen Sylas and Maddy's outside of their two local locations and frankly they are the best in town IMO. I love coming to Sweet Caroline's for a chocolate fix! I always get the milk chocolate salted caramels. They are so good! They always have plenty of fudge options and have some really interesting flavors. Most recently we tried the cookies and cream and enjoyed it. The ice cream here is great as well. There is not a ton of seating but I have never seen it get too busy. The staff here is always quick and kind. I will definitely continue to return! read more

This area of Overland Park is old enough to feel small town, but is so close to Town Center and Scheel's. We came for Jalapenos, but didn't want to miss out on trying this cute little ice cream shop. The interior has the old school sweets shop feel, and has very little seating towards the back. The ice cream is homemade ,and features hometown favorites named after local teams. I opted for the cherry limeade and a scoop of cake batter as well on a cake cone. I also got a caramel apple as well on my second visit. Cherry limeade: so, so good. Somehow creamy, but tart as well. Such a cool local store! Sweet Caroline's is like an old-fashioned soda shop with homemade ice cream, candy by the pound, retro treats, and a very tempting display case filled with lots of decadent items. The day we were in, we were the only customers and Caroline's son was working. He was so friendly and funny and told us all about their products. Their chocolate is made in their on-site kitchen. Very impressive. We got several pieces of chocolate to go, and he told us how to transport it home so it'd stay the right temperature, and how to care for it when we got home. You don't get this level of customer service often, so it was so nice to experience. We got fudge, 4 caramels, 2 chocolate covered Oreos, 2 cherry cordials, and 4 chocolate covered orange slices. It totaled just under $20, which I think is a very good deal for handcrafted candies. Our treats were amaaaaazing- especially the chocolate covered orange slices. They're a favorite of my mom's, but are getting difficult to find, or when I do they're made with imitation orange and are disappointing in flavor. The ones sold here are the real deal- SO GOOD! Most of their candy is available in milk & dark chocolate. They also have lots in white chocolate, and even a few sugar-free. They have a huge selection of caramel apples too- they're beautifully decorated. I'm telling everyone I know about this place. It's worth the trek from KC. Go check it out! read more

All the trappings of an old fashioned candy store with an added icecream bonus! This is not a pretentious fancy store. Instead it's a quaint little shop nestled down between a karate school and a Mexican restaurant. It's so small it's almost squeezed into the strip mall. There is outside seating, which makes for a nice summer ice cream shop experience. Once inside the walking isle around the counter is not very wide. You are greatest with shelves of hand made fudge and other treats with a small shelf of seasonal items to the right. Around the left is a long wall of bins of candy that you can fill bags with and an ice cream counter across from the wall. There isn't a lot of room to move, so browsing people can make it a little congested. Further back there is some indoor seating. The quality of the ice cream is superb. The selections range from vanilla to peanut butter freak. They also offer a wide selection of dipped cones. Except for the lack of space, the selection reminds me of a Baskin Robbins. There is no mixing of candy into the ice cream like a Cold Stone, but you can buy your candy in bags and eat it with your icecream, if you need that. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got a free taste of fudge before making our selections, and ended up buying slightly more than planned. Great place :-) read more

Horrible experience with staff. My 6yr old son cut his foot on a sharp metal object on the entrance door. We notified the person working that they may want to look into doing something to cover that area. The first response was "We're not responsible." - really?? It's not like we asked them to call an ambulance! It was a simple comment for them to look into it since I'm sure a lot of small kids go there. 2nd comment from the employee was "I've been walking through that door for 13 years and have never cut my foot." WTF?? Come to find out the employee we were speaking to is the son of the owner. Maybe he was having a bad day but his behavior was completely inexcusable. What could be sweeter than chocolate? Caroline and her son! Not only was the ice cream and chocolates fabulous but their warm demeanors are an added treat! The cappuccino ice cream and mint ice cream were very rich in flavor with a pleasant smooth texture. When it comes to the chocolates- I picked out three- I found them to be beautifully shaped and the centers to be soft. They were sweet but not overly so. This is a cool local shop! I went there for the first time earlier this week to get some treats for Valentine's Day. There is a great selection of just about anything a sweet tooth craves. We tried some truffles (wedding cake, double latte, Irish creme and butter toffee). All were delicious! Their chocolate covered strawberries looked amazing and very tempting. The guy that checked us out was very nice and personable. Service was great! This place is definitely bad for New Year's resolutions! I am sad to say that my first experience here was the WORST. I am so bummed out! Total day ruiner. Myself and the two children I nanny went in today to pick up some chocolate covered strawberries their dad had ordered for their mom as a Valentine's Day gift. I went in and asked for the order, they quickly came back and said that "the order is NOT going to be ready until 5 like the person who ordered them requested". I let them know that I was right there when the dad called to ask if the order could be picked up at 4pm so that the mom was surprised with them upon her arrival home from work tonight. The young cashier assisting me said "one sec" and walked to the back, again. He came back after three seconds and said "actually no one called and I can't get them made faster, they will be done in a bit". So I drug the two kids I nanny for out and we waited in the car. I wish the bad experience ended there, but sadly it had only just begun. Twenty minutes later we went inside and I again asked for the order. A different young man was helping me this time. He came back with them and said "okay so the total is..." and I let him know that I was under the impression that they were already paid for. Again I apologized and said "I am only the nanny, sorry." Instead of being kind and saying "oh no worries" or "give him a call to see where the miscommunication was" the young man hastily put the paper in my face and angrily pointed at three letters and said "WELL IT CLEARLY SAYS CASH ON DEMAND SOOOO?!" Well, okay! How was I to know? I apologized AGAIN and AGAIN explained that I am JUST the nanny and I am trying to help! I took the children to the back and had them sit after telling them I would have to give the dad a call because I can't use my own card to pay for them. He huffed off and that was that. Then, we stood there for about five minutes before an older woman popped out and loudly explained that she could charge the card on file, but seemingly accused me of lying or something to that extent and said she would need to take my name down to make note of who picked the strawberries up. Oh, this was only after she loudly explained the same thing three times after I had already told her TWICE that I understood. I think the worst part about this would be that I was having a wonderful day and their rude demeanor totally destroyed my mood, which makes me sad. I am a crazy positive person who loves others, and I am so sad by my experience today. I wish it was different. I truly hope things change and that if I ever decide to go there again, I have a different experience. Maybe it was just how busy they were during the Valentine's Day season, who knows, but I was so embarrassed and upset by the time I left there that I was tearing up. When we got to the car the two children whom I nanny for said to me, "They were really mean, we used to love it here." Went in here after dinner at a nearby restaurant because we wanted to try a local spot for dessert. The worker was extremely kind and friendly, eager to help us in our search for what to get. Ended up ordering two raspberry truffles ($3.75 each) and we were excited to try them. Needless to say, they were the worst raspberry truffles I have ever tasted. Frustrated that the price was so steep for such a low quality and bad tasting product. Wanted to love it but not sure we will give it another chance. read more

A lot of the candy-by-the-pound as well as items in the display case look like they've been sitting there for too long. Still a cute, fun place to go for an occasional treat but don't expect to get any warm and fuzzy feelings from this place. The owner's unwelcoming nature and "rules" will keep us away. My teenage son loves going in this treat shop with his friends, but I hadn't actually gone in myself until recently. We have been in twice in the past month and I realize that I've been missing out! Great selection of fun commercial candy, homemade treats, ice cream, and my favorite...caramel apples. The caramel apples are huge, fresh, and fun. There are lots of varieties to choose from. My new favorite is the apple pie...caramel apple rolled in sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon, then topped with white chocolate. I can eat on them for several days, they are so big. Two older teens (perhaps early 20's) were working and could not have provided better service. We felt very welcomed and they were patient as we made our selections. They also gave great advice. My boyfriend loves their ice cream cones because the scoops are HUGE and the chocolate dipped waffle cones are always fresh. We will continue to enjoy this local gem! read more
