Ask the Community - Mr. Putter's Family Fun Center: Andy's Awesome Arcade

Would this be a decent place to host a 9 year olds birthday party? He wants to play arcade games for his birthday. How do you contact the business?

Yes. Check to see if you can bring in food. They have a space that is away from the games to eat.

So I saw that Andy's arcade had Gilligans, and I had to go.

I'm so happy that we came here I was kind of skeptical because we were waiting for almost an hour…read morefor the other place across the street and got tired of waiting we came here it took about 30 minutes to get a pizza as of course it's car show weekend and it was worth the wait and the prices are excellent my husband and I shared the small pizza and it was a perfect size for a snack that was very filling the cheese is excellent and so is the pepperoni and the sauce and the crispy bottom on the crust but the fluffiness was so delicious. I'm not sure if the man that made the pizza is the owner or the manager but he was so nice as we sat there at the counter he offered us a free ice cream and I thought that was really nice of him we offered to pay but he said no. His daughter that helps him up front was so polite and very sweet. I wish we had something like that here in Long Beach however we do not. I look forward to coming back again and again. The cheese is ooey gooey and piping hot Just like the good old days I remember as a kid.

They really intended to serve this, right? 2 pieces are almost not edible. Fries smell terrible. Smell like old potatoes. Sweet potato fries were good. Chicken was ok. Pizza and fries are something you want to avoid ordering here. Female staff was nice and friendly and that was the only reason this is rated as one star. Bowling was ok until we made a strike. Once we made a strike, it started to put wrong number of pins (e.g. 6 pins for the first turn of new player)

Boomers is a great place to take kids for family fun or birthday parties. There are so many…read moreactivities, but be prepared to spend some money! I was able to find great deals on mini golf and arcade credits through Groupon, which definitely helped. There are tons of fun games, and the kids loved the arcade. They even managed to win prizes from the giant claw machine, which never happens, so that was a big highlight! They also have batting cages and water bumper cars, though the bumper cars were out of commission when we visited. I'd recommend eating beforehand and bringing your own drinks. The food is overpriced and not great quality. That said, the service was very friendly both at the food counter and in the arcade/ticket area.

We almost didn't make it here -- and I'm really glad we did…read more Quick heads up for anyone planning ahead: the hours can be a little misleading. The website will say "open," but weekday hours don't actually start until 2 PM, and that detail is buried further down. We found that out the hard way after finishing up at the pier around 11 and having to completely pivot our plans (including grabbing food elsewhere to hold the kids over). Not a dealbreaker, but definitely something to be aware of if you're visiting from out of town. Once they did open though? Completely different story. We were greeted by Robert -- and honestly, he set the tone for the entire visit. He was the only one up front at first, but you wouldn't have known it based on how smoothly everything went. Friendly, attentive, and actually present. He helped us get set up, handled food, and still managed to keep an eye on everything else going on. And yes -- he made our pizzas fast, gave us a buzzer, and sent us on our way to enjoy the games instead of waiting around. That alone? Huge. We ended up doing the arcade route first, and this is where Boomer's really surprised me. I used a Groupon deal and paid $25 for 100 points, and it just so happened to be one of their half-off arcade days. So instead of games costing 3 points, they were 1.5 -- and the machines actually show you the discount clearly. That's smart business. The card system is also way better than old-school arcades. No paper tickets flying everywhere -- everything loads directly onto the card. And for once, we actually had enough points to get decent prizes. We walked out with a bunch of toys and plushies instead of the usual "you can afford a sticker and a piece of candy" situation. At one point, my son joked that a game was "rigged," and Robert immediately stepped in -- not in a defensive way, but in a "let me make sure this kid is having a good time" way. He showed him how the game worked, pointed out that he had already won multiple times, and turned it into a funny, reassuring moment instead of letting frustration build. That kind of attentiveness stands out. We also tried the go-karts (paid separately), and I'll say this: if you're even considering it, just go for the unlimited option. One round was enough to realize we wanted to get right back in line. The kids had a blast, and even with one riding with me, it was still a great experience. We ended up spending about 2.5 to 3 hours here between food, games, and rides -- and overall spent around $100. For everything we did, that's actually a really solid value. Especially compared to places like Scandia, where you can easily drop $200 without blinking. There was also a giant claw machine with oversized bouncy balls -- both of my boys won on their first try, which felt like a miracle in itself. We couldn't take them with us (overpacked car problems), so we gave them to another family with little ones. Unexpected wholesome moment. Overall vibe: * Not overly crowded (at least when we went) * Clean and easy to navigate * Systems are modern and efficient * Staff presence was light, but Robert carried the experience If I had one note, it would be the hours communication -- that part could be clearer upfront. But once you're inside, the experience makes up for it. We came in slightly thrown off by the timing... and left with happy kids, prizes, and zero regrets. And Robert? Give that man his flowers. He made a lasting impression without even trying to. All in all a great experience and 10/10 would recommend ! BUT THEY OPEN AT 2pm on weekdays ! REMEMBER THAT !

We usually order while we bowl and enjoy both. Usually there's not much of a wait on weekdays. Other than that when there's a tournament. But always nice to watch others bowl. The employees didn't seem very enthusiastic to be there, and I ended up waiting at the grill counter for longer than I should have. Someone actually had to come off their break just to get me lemon slices because everyone else seemed to ignore that I was standing there. Even though the place was mostly empty when I arrived, we still got seated in a corner with a couple of other groups. It looked like there was some kind of tournament or practice happening later, but I finished playing well before people started showing up, so it felt unnecessary to pack us all together like that. The women's bathrooms were disgusting. There were 2 stalls and one of them looked clogged. The food at Rancho Grill itself was fine. It wasn't anything special, nothing terrible. I'd grab a snack from the grill again if I happened to be there, but I wouldn't make a point to eat here. Overall, not a bad visit, but not exciting either.
