This place is seriously hit or miss. The bbq ribs were great, the chicken & broccoli was pretty good, the homemade dumplings were good, but they gave us free fried shrimp and fries. It's been years since we've had food from Andy's. Used to live really close to it and when you're a kid on a budget, this place is where you go for great cheap food. Now that we've moved to Loudoun County, we've noticed the Chinese restaurants out here cost way more! We were not able to finish all of this food and it made for great leftovers. We ordered two combination platters. Chicken with garlic sauce, beef and broccoli, and some wings. Both dishes were flavorful. The egg roll was a good compliment. And the fried rice was not your average fried rice. It came with veggies and pork. The wings were really crispy. All it was missing was the mumbo sauce which we forget to request! Woman there tonight was an idiot. I ordered general tsos chicken, no brocoli, subbed white rice. I also ordered combination fried rice. I left with the food. They added brocoli. They didn't give me white rice. And I wasn't given the combination fried rice. I didn't check the prices, so that's on me on why I paid a little less. Dinnertime: Hunan beef meal, fried dumplings appetizer, large vegetable fried rice meal = $35. I live local and wanted a menu, they said they were working on a new one. I can't tell if I was overcharged or not. The food however, was really good. Hard to stand out with chinese takeout, but these guys did. I felt like the dumplings were made from scratch. I don't know if the veggies were fresher than what I'm used to, or if they just cooked it the right amount of time, but it had that al dente kind of texture to it that was awesome. There are a few reviews that mention price gouging so out of curiosity I called to ask what the price for a fried scallop/ shrimp fried rice combo would be. Let me just say I have never paid more than $12 for this ANYWHERE in the U.S. the lady puts me on a hold and comes back and says $18.95!! (Even with covid prices that's unreasonable) I wanted to make sure I heard her correctly so I repeated it back and she confirmed. I just wanted to share something I found really funny. Once I get home, I take out the soup container that was tightly packed in a small brown paper bag. To my surprise I find this tiny little rolled up wax paper bag. I thought "this can't possibly be my crunchies for my soup." Oh. But it was. It's so ridiculous and funny that I had to share. And about the soup, it tasted very, very bland. My lo mien was okay. The oil in my food had a weird taste and I got a slight allergic reaction. Let's be totally and completely real: no matter how much of a foodie you are, you sometimes just want some cheap junky Chinese food. That's totally OK. And this place is too. Andy's Carry Out has no pretenses. No tables, no fanciness, just a big relatively empty joint with reasonably priced entrees and a place to order. This is in a very Hispanic shopping center, and the lady at the counter appeared to be bi- (tri-?) lingual. Nothing appeared dirty, but nothing was super sparkling, either. All I can say is, the kitchen looked clean, and that's all I gave a crap about. I got the sesame chicken because I was a manchild, and it was actually quite good. There was plenty of food, it was well cooked, the meat quality was decent, the sauce wasn't overwhelming, and the rice was fresh and warm. This isn't really even remotely close to high-end cuisine in any possible respect - this is a stone's throw away from fast food in every way - but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Again, let's be super, super clear: this is not "real" Chinese food, this is not as good as your favorite place back home, this is not going to knock your socks off, and you will probably get fat eating here. But that's okay. You go here for cheap junky American Chinese food, and if you want that, this place is a decent choice. read more

I have tried their Roast Pork w/ Mixed Vegi, Gen. Tso's Chicken (these are under Combo Platters), and Combo Lo Mein. I'd say they are slightly better than the average but way better than some baaad Chinese take out I had before. I liked theirs because it was relatively less greasy than average Chinese take out (but don't get me wrong, it's still greasy like the way of Chinese Take Out~) Not too salty or too much soy sauce either. Their portion was also bigger than the others on Columbia Pk closer to DC, from Columbia & Glebe to the east. Overall, For take out, it was good enough for me to go back. I have been a loyal customer for years. Is the food healthy...no. Is the food greasy...yes. what sets this place apart from other Chinese places is you walk in and see the cooks making your order fresh. Andy's actually seasons their food! Their French fries are crispy and have this hint of sugar ( it works, so good and addictive). You want crispy food then order from Andy's because I know it is gamble getting crispy food delivered. Other places have soggy water logged food, or under done. ANDYS KNOWS HOW TO DO FLAVOR because they brine and/or marinate, and salt pepper! CHEAP food AND GREAT PORTIONS. I mean greasy but that is at the bottom of the container anyway. Get the ribs and fried rice if you visit or even the chicken wings. Tips - get mumbo sauce, ask for "well done" for fried items and don't let the bag tip over in your car unless you want stains or a new leather moisturizer. 5 stars for fast, tasty, and cheap All-American Chinese food. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 10 years and Andy's has been around for as long as I can remember. It's not a fancy place, nor is the service very good, but you get what a lot for what you pay for. Tasty lo mein, moist and flavorful sesame chicken, mouthwatering fried rice -- that is, if you enjoy the hidden treasure of American cuisine known as take-out Chinese food. Andy's has a decked-out menu with all of the typical favorites and even has sandwiches and wings. If you come around from 11-3PM, you can even try their dirt cheap lunch specials for fewer than six dollars. I've had some not-so-good experiences with Andy's (namely, their soups and the always god-awful Egg Foo Young and Chop Suey), but they do good on the Chinese take-out name and they've always managed to save my stomach from starvation on those nights when making dinner seems impossible. read more

I was really on the fence - but I had to take the plunge and give this place the 5 Star treatment. It's not because it's nice inside; it isn't. It's awful. It's a little bit dirty, and the signs advertising their specials are just printer paper - stained with what looks to be coffee - affixed to the wall with scotch tape. It's not the service. Although fast, nobody working here seems to be having a great day when you walk in and order - and they will likely bring your day down a notch or two with their attitude. But, fret not! You'll rise a few notches when you get you bill. Because it is so. dirt. CHEAP. You can get mountains off food here for super reasonable prices - you can eat for days with the right combination. And you know what else? The food is great. It is excellent. It is so good, your taste buds will kick your balls out through your ass. Even the sandwiches are awesome! Seriously, I love this place. WOW! I think I just found my "go to" chinese carry out :) This place is very unassuming when you drive by. It's off of Columbia Pike and right next to a spanish bakery/eatery. This was one of the very very few places that were open during the DC Metro Area Snow Storm of 2010. It was pretty cool how most of the stores in this shopping center were open during this snow storm. We ordered the kung pow chicken, beef w/snow peas, and chicken with mushroom. My favorite of the 3 dishes was the beef w/snow peas. This place was surprisingly very very YUMMY! And for the 3 dishes we paid $26; not too shabby :) I will definately be ordering carry out from here again. read more

While Andy's is nothing to look at and its in a sketchy strip mall, you'll love the food. Sure, every time I go in there I get hit on by some drunk local trying to get his lo mein on too and the woman that takes the orders has a disgusting attitude -- but I don't care. I place my order and then I go sit in my car, where I can avoid the stale liquor smell of the odd balls that seem to know good food as well. Its best to grab your food and go. During the recent snOMG/Snowpocolypse/Snowmagedon, I came to Andy's carryout on numerous occasions as I had forgotten to stock up on groceries for the week. I've sampled many of their menu items and all, in my opinion, were slightly below average. Their saving grace? The Singapore Chow Mien. MY GOD IS THIS GOOD. I mean, it's my favorite. While counter productive, I use these noodles as a reward for my weight loss. Every 5 pounds I lose - I'm there getting my noodle fix! Other items sampled: Shrimp Egg Rolls: As Fenny L would say "EPIC FAILURE." While fried to perfection, the inside lacked any sort of taste. Beef and Broccoli: The meat was very fatty and also tasteless . There is waaaay too much broccoli in this dish, too. The ratio is not proportioned. Happy Family (usually my favorite dish at other places): Here, it is so-so. Average. Not spicy which was a let down. As a Chinese guy, sometimes you crave some good Americanized Chinese food. Well, look no further. Best General Tsos around Foggy Bottom/Rosslyn for a less than $20. Flavor, crispness, and the sauce are all on point. The fried rice that it comes with is actually very well done with delicious wok flavoring. I really like this place! A lot! It is great food! And what i have noticed is that if they don't have what you want, you can work with them and tell them what you want and they make it happen. For example there is little vegetarian food on the menu however if you ask them they will make whatever you want with Tofu (bean curd) instead of meat. I have always found them willing to substitute for you. There food is well done, well flavored, and very tasty. Portions are medium to large, they will not skimp you. Dollar per dollar it is a very economical place to eat. The only downside i have is the store front is kinda run down. There is only a few chairs to sit on while you wait, and their are usually cases and soda and supplies around. So if you are looking for decor this is not the place. Secondly, while they are very friendly, and get to know repeat customers fast, the lady that works the front end (taking order) sometimes does not understand you well and you need to stress what you mean at times. Don't mistake her aggressiveness as rudeness, i have got to know her well, it is just her trying to make sure she has your order right. They all there want to ensure you get a great meal.
