We have served takeout from here to US Ambassadors, and with nothing but compliments :) Super clean, super high quality food for the price point, run by polite, efficient and friendly employees who demonstrate real love and care for their customers and the restaurant. The weekday lunch combo specials are the real star here-for $10-$12, choose an egg roll or spring roll (or can soda), your choice of entree plus a side (white/brown/plain fried rice, can upgrade the side to things like pork lo mein, house fried rice etc for a max of $5.95 currently) A lunch special will legitimately feed me 3 or 4 times for the price of a fast food value meal, and it has veggies so I feel less guilt, haha If you select delivery, do it on their own website and opt for their own delivery to further support this gem of a small business!! If you pop into ABC or Giant, call here to place an order when you pull up, and it'll be ready by the time you finish your other errand. Don't forget them when you're sick-their egg drop soup will cure a cold quicker than chicken noodle soup! The staff were great and the prices are reasonable but food was ok compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. Came here one day for a quick lunch before going grocery shopping. My family used to order take out from here numerous times but I was curious about the experience of dining in the restaurant. Service was quick, I looked at the menu prior to visiting the place and I was promptly given water and tea. The ambiance was quiet but relaxing, calm music was playing in the background. I got General Tso's Chicken with Plain fried rice, a vegetable spring egg roll and instead of a drink I got Egg Drop Soup. The Egg Drop Soup wasn't too salty but it was also extremely hot. I had to wait a while before delving into eating the soup. With the wonton crackers they are pleasant and just reminds me of comfort. The General Tso's Chicken with Fried Rice is good, tastes like what you'd get from most take out places. It was filling and I enjoyed eating it. The Veggie Egg Roll, standard fair as well but with duck sauce it's pretty good. I'll have to come back here to try out more of their take out. I do think dining in, the experience was great and I am happy to have given this restaurant a visit! read more

We are not sure what happened but the food is just not good, sweet and sour chicken, sauce was brown and nasty, beef with vegetables tasted rancid, chicken with peanuts was inedible. I ordered Crispy Shredded Chicken, which was supposed to be "hot and spicy" and it was none of the above. The chicken was floppy (not crispy) was cut into chunks (not shredded), and was drowning in sweet sauce (not remotely spicy). This is one of the "Chef's Specials" and it failed to deliver. I added to my order the vegetable lo mein, which had three pieces of undercooked broccoli, a few pieces of sauteed onions, two or three pieces of mushroom, and one piece of shredded carrot. Clearly the vegetables were an afterthought. The noodles themselves were oily and flavorless. At least this dish I can "plus up" to save it. Likely my adolescent child will eat the sickly sweet chicken. I hope they don't get too attached tho, cuz I am not going back to Szechuan Star. read more

This was a quick and efficient takeout. I probably overestimated how Szechuan it was, as compared to the last place I went for this cuisine. The tofu they delivered was a fairly basic brown sauce dish, but it had an appealing vegetable mix and there are many times where I wanted this sort of dish done this well and didn't find it. Ordering some vegetable dumplings proved to be a good decision as well as there were plenty of them and they had a nice mix. We have been going to the Szechuan Star for years and years. Sadly the business has changed hands and the quality of the food has deteriorated. The spice level is either too much or too little, fewer ingredients are being included with dishes like sweet and sour, or they are of poorer quality. Twice I've ordered pork sweet and sour and ended up with chicken. All minor things, but frustrating. The staff IS wonderful and the redecoration is nice, but the food quality needs to be improved even if that means higher prices. If we didn't know what was produced in the past, it wouldn't be as frustrating, but now we don't go as frequently. read more

My family and I came here for an earlier lunch, and we ordered: +Crab Rangoon - came with 6; they were crispy and filled generously with the cream cheese and imitation crab mixture; no sauce is provided, but there are plenty of sauces at the table! +Kung Pao Beef lunch combo - the combo specials run from Monday to Friday, and you choose between a vegetable spring roll or egg roll; white rice or plain fried rice; and, soup or a can soda +Crispy Shredded Beef - this was not overly cooked and it wasn't that sweet, which was great! Generous portion! Don't forget to ask for their house mustard - it is thick, creamy, and has the right amount of heat to add to your dishes! Tonight when I ordered it was so spicy it was inedible. And I ordered mild! Not always like that, the spice amount seems random, which means that sometimes the food won't be edible to anyone in the house... like lips blisteringly/skin burning spicy. It's just too expensive to not know if it's going to be edible. But some of the food is great- the beef on a stick and crab Rangoons, but anything that makes you pick mild/medium/spicy, I feel like I'm rolling the dice. read more

Ordered delivery 2 days before Christmas on the coldest day of the year so far, fully expected it to take over an hour, but it didn't! It was at our door in less than 30-min. Wow. Based on the recommendation of another Yelper, I requested the house mustard, and it's a slam dunk. Tangy & that wasabi type of spicy. The portions were big. Here's what we ordered: * Lo Mein with combo of beef, shrimp and chicken. Plenty of meat, the chicken & beef was cut well into thin strips, the shrimp was cooked perfectly tender. I'm not usually a lo Mein gal, but this was my favorite of the dishes * Homestyle Bean Curd -- generous veggies & lots of tofu, the brown sauce way yummy and had a silky texture. I'd order this again. * Beef with Broccoli -- the broccoli was just what I was looking for: tender stems without being mushy and sauce absorbed well. The beef was tender, but cut a little too big for my liking and also kind of greasy. I'll pick a different beef dish next time. If you want chop sticks, be sure to ask! Our favorite place for fried rice. My kids do not like onions in their fried rice, so we always order without onions and the service is always fast and correct (which these days is hard to come by). They are very welcoming and polite when I pick up my order. One time they forgot our sauce and immediately called us to let us know before we drove home. I can't say enough about their hospitality and effort to ensure your order is correct and tasty. I only wish more places did the same. read more

Was very excited to try this place out after hearing several people recommend it and seeing the positive Google reviews. I'm sorry to say it but I was disappointed with the food and found it to be thoroughly mediocre; indistinguishable from any other cheap delivery Chinese food I've had in the past few years. My Szechuan Lamb dish (ordered extra spicy) did not have the onions and peppers typically included in such a dish, but had julienned carrots and sliced celery instead, and the dish was about 50% carrots by weight. There was zero taste of szechuan peppercorns and zero heat or spice... just a completely generic syrupy sauce that tastes of nothing but soy, salt, and sugar. The cuts of lamb meat were also low quality and filled with unchewable pieces of connective tissue that you end up awkwardly spitting out into a napkin. My Hunan Beef dish had the same utterly generic sauce, zero spiciness despite being marked on the menu as a spicy dish, and had broccoli as the only vegetable rather than the variety of vegetables typically included in such a dish. The Szechuan dumplings we got were soggy and overcooked and broken down, with the balls of meat filling having separated and fallen out of their dumpling wrappers right in the container, basically giving us a mess of overcooked pasta sheets with small meatballs floating throughout it -- similar to how cheap canned ravioli often ends up as separated pasta squares and lumps of meat filling floating freely in the sauce. The egg rolls were solid; well filled with plenty of meat and cabbage, and stayed crispy on the drive home. The crab rangoons were also nice and crispy, but their filling was a disappointing highly sweetened cream cheese with zero imitation crab included, despite other customer reviews saying that the crab rangoons here were excellent exactly because they actually include chopped imitation crab in the filling (so, yes, even a small amount of cheap imitation crab is apparently now too spendy for this establishment). Would absolutely NOT recommend going out of your way for Szechuan Star. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was even good let alone "great" aside from the egg rolls being passable. Maybe the place was a lot better in the past given the many other positive reviews online over the past several years. But we ordered like 5 different main dishes and several smaller dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and food we got here was on the low end for quality and taste of generic Chinese carry-out restaurants in the area. Was very hyped to try them but there is nothing special here at all, and the food is very expensive to boot. read more

Been coming to this place since I was in middle school, moved away and now back in the area and this place is still consistently good. Originally owners still here. Been coming since the early 90s when they had their Sunday buffet. It's a favorite for the locals I know that. Ambience is more quite now than in the 90s at least when I go there and pick up for lunch. Their sweet and sour chicken could use more pineapple that would be my only critique. I also got an order of the crab rangoons it's hard to mess those up. My meal was Kung Pap Triple Delight. For my first time it was good. I should have gotten it a little bit spicier. Came in for a quick lunch on a weekday and had such a good time. It was early lunch and the place was pretty empty when I came in, but started to fill up a bit a little later. They had plenty of space still though and kept all the tables distanced far apart. The gentleman who was serving was so such a sweet and friendly man. I asked him if the Kung Pao Chicken had a lot of veggies and he told me it didn't and recommended the Hunan Chicken instead. The chicken was good and had a lot of veggies, but it wasn't spicy at all. Next time, I will probably ask them to make it super spicy because I think their spice level is catered towards American standards. The hot and sour soup was also very good and not salty. The waiter brought out green onions on the side (even when I didn't ask) which was soooo greatly appreciated cuz I love me some scallions. He also brought me a bowl of peanuts because I think he thought I wanted peanuts since I was going to order the Kung Pao chicken first. I also opted for the egg roll and I think they def make them fresh in-house because it didn't have that generic taste like the ones that you can buy frozen. Btw, the lunch combo is such a steal! It comes with an entree, soup, and choice of egg roll or spring roll + drink. I had ordered a hot tea and was confused as to why it wasn't on my bill, and was told it's included in the lunch deal... what?! I almost felt guilty because I had such a great experience and left stuffed with complimentary dessert and it was just so affordable. After many years of being a loyal customer Szechuan Star advised we were now 1/2 mile beyond their new 3 mile limit delivery area. We were in restaurant, and home delivery customers for over 10 years. We remained loyal during the COVID times when the restaurant was not seating customers and needed the business. Sorry to hear its not worth keeping customers who are less than 1 minute outside your new delivery area. (Did the math using less than the posted speed limits and most direct route.) We always gave delivery drivers and waitresses generous tips. Sucks to be snubbed after all these years. We will not be back for seated dining again. There are other choices. read more
