Located off a main road in Addison, there is a small parking lot to park in, but pretty crowded with all of the other businesses and restaurants in this same area. I went on a Monday afternoon and there were only 3 open spots. The staff is incredibly friendly, and very happy to give advice, offer up choices, their favorites, etc. The architecture and layout was interesting, tall ceilings, open, airy, inviting. You can go through the drive thru, or you can walk up to one of the order windows. The menus offer up all that there is to choose from, there are also several large banner / posters of some of their frozen concoctions. I went with the James Brownie Jackhammer. Loaded with Hot Fudge, Peanut butter and more. Yummy but a little pricey. Not enough hot fudge in my opinion. You know it's good when you finish your cup of ice cream in less than 5 minutes and contemplate going through the drive through to get seconds. They have seasonal flavors, and in the fall, that means pumpkin pie ice cream. On their menu, it says that there is a piece of pie in every cup. I believe it. It was creamy, with bits of crunchy graham pie crust. It was delicious! The drive through always seems to have a line of cars, but it goes pretty fast. I recommend looking the menu up online or taking a picture of the first menu placard when entering the drive through. This way you can study the menu without holding up the line. They don't have a two way speaker for taking your order. You'll pull up to the window and talk to a cheerful young person eager to help fulfill your frozen dessert dreams. You can park and go inside to order. It looks like they have limited seating inside and out. If you choose this route, you will have to play frogger to dodge the traffic in the drive thru. The place smells like Willie Wonka wonderland, so it may be worth it to thoroughly enjoy the olfactory part of the show and walk away still smelling like heaven. read more

Andy's is like a beacon in the night. They are always brightly lit, and very inviting. It draws you into the light so effectively, you know what it feels like to be a moth! This was my first time wearing shorts in a very long time, and what better occasion to wear them than for an ice cold treat during the Texas heat! My friends seeing me in shorts for the first time kept touching my calves and making comments about my leg muscles while I was eating, but I was distracted by the flavor of the sweet treat concrete you just can't beat! I tried Andy's Frozen Custard a few years ago and it was just okay. I built my own random sundae, I can't remember. I finally tried it again and boy was it good. My husband and I drove to this location on a Sunday afternoon. I can't speak to the ambiance since we just did the drive thru. There were no cars in the drive thru, but that was great for us! The service was really quick. I had already looked at the menu online and went with the Ooey Gooey Concrete and my husband quickly went with the Butter Pecan Concrete. Don't sleep on the Ooey Gooey Concrete. It's so good! You can taste the Health chocolate bar and the caramel. The almond was a lot a nice touch. I definitely recommend it. What a cool place to grab some custard late night! I'm not sure if all Andy's are built to operate in a garage-like building but this one was. Options were endless -- floats, sundaes, malts, etc. Toppings were categorized based on their textures: crunchy, nutty, fruity, etc. For my first time, I decided to keep it traditional and went with a Tin-Roof Sundae and added caramel to it. The colorful lit retro design of Andy's drew me in! Indoor/outdoor ordering counter, drive thru and outdoor seating liven up what would've been a dead, suburban strip mall corner. Andy's definitely helps fill a much needed hang out void in this area and this makes a great later evening spot for highschoolers and families alike. Unfortunately I have to give a bit of tough love here. I didn't love what I ordered and didn't quite think it was worth the cost. Andy's isn't exactly cheap. My cup-sized custard came out to about $6 after tax and left a bit to be desired. The "jackhammer" and "concrete" names are a bit difficult to understand for a newbie; I learned that a jackhammer is a cup of icecream with a filling and the concrete is icecream mixed up with an extra topping. It was very sweet and tasted similar to Braums or Baskin Robbins icecream but was a few bucks more expensive, at a Paciugo's or Marble Slab price point. The toppings and mixins weren't anything too fancy (pretzels, oreos, nuts, etc). It was a fun venue, amazing hangout spot, loved the hours, but taste and price just weren't quite my cup of tea...or icecream I should say. The service was great and prompt and I did appreciate how above the drive thru window in the employee area there was a motivational sign that read "You can make their whole day great" so loved that. read more
