I have driven by this place no less than a thousand times and have lived in Dallas over the course of probably about 15 years. Ironically, I've actually never been inside. Until this past weekend. We went in for my partner's birthday, and I'm sure glad we did. They normally don't like rich desserts or cakes, but they love pretty nice, high end dark chocolates. Chocolate Secrets did not disappoint. We arrived with our family, including two little ones in tow. They actually treated our kids with such love and care. It was slightly understaffed, but even then the service was excellent. We ended up taking a box of nine chocolates to go. Pro tip: they also host jazz nights on most nights. It also seems like a really cool spot for hosting events. My favorite so far was the Yes Yes Yes Truffle. It has milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate. I had been wanting to go to Chocolate Secrets for a while, and finally made it here on Sunday after brunch with a friend. I got a cafe mocha and it was very good. Because it was my first time, they gave me a free chocolate to try, which was a wonderful surprise. Unfortunately, they didn't have one of the flavors I wanted to try, but I had the rosemary chocolate caramel and it was great! I ended up buying a cute milk-:and dark- chocolate bar, and two more caramel bonbons to take home. The prices aren't cheap but for great chocolate made in-house, it's worth it. We went in for afternoon tea on Saturday. The whole place was decked out with cute Christmas decoration! The tableware set that they have were also really really adorable. Here they let you choose between a variety of tea bags so everyone can pick whatever they want instead of having it predetermined to pair with the food like in many places. We had to wait a long time to get our hot water refills. Our server was very sweet, but service was very slow because they were understaffed. Food wise the salmon spread sandwich and the nut crusted goat cheese really stood out to me, but everything else left much to be desired. Scones are usually the highlight of my afternoon tea but their scones tasted very bitter because of too much baking powder -- it was barely edible. Live music is my thing, so I especially appreciate that they offer live music Thursday-Sunday. The staff is amazing! Everyone is so kind and helpful. The establishment itself is perfect - one side houses the cafe/bar with cases full of sweet treats and wine/beer for enjoyment. The peanut butter truffle tasted almost like straight peanut butter. The dates and turtles had a very difficult texture to eat making it not enjoyable. They were super nice to my kids and gave them free chocolates. It was a bit busy on the weekend and we got stuck behind a group of excited ladies who I don't think get out much. I could not see the items in the case because they wouldn't step aside after each one of them took their time ordering. I had to use an online menu. Live music was phenomenal. A feature tonight (Saturday) as we celebrate my sorority's Founders Day. Lovely way to shoutout 22 brilliant women of the 1913 era with a strong vision! Firstly, we 22 women gathered here tonight also to toast the same. And secondly, to eat luscious chocolates! Table Service was oddly nonexistent. We asked the table next to us how to obtain foid/drinks and chocolates? Quick answer at the counter. With that I swiftly placed our order for Mexican hot chocolate, glass moscato, salted caramel mousse pie, and chocolates, most certainly chocolates, at the counter near the entrance. Was told that our order would be delivered to the table... we waited and waited and waited beyond an hour. Returned to the coffee bar for the cup of Mexican chocolate. Yum! Upon entering, it feels like you enter a family member's home full of trinkets, low music, friendly people, and homey scents. When it comes to ordering, the staff is patient and helpful navigating all of the offerings which are quite extensive. They offer 5 different hot chocolates as well as large display cases filled with cakes, truffles, chocolates, and more. My go to order is a dark chocolate hot chocolate with a chocolate cake pop, but have truly never had something I didn't like there. Each treat is the perfect size and sweetness to end a meal or be a little treat! In addition to the treats and drinks, they also offer live music every weekend that gets packed out as the local artists are so beyond talented. I have seen jazz and soul artists all of which were so intriguing and introduced me to artists I had not previously known of. I'm really disappointed with this place over all. The parking situation is terrible, if you aren't coming from a specific direction, you have to make a circle around the block in order to park. My husband brought me here to pick out an assortment of chocolates as a special treat (I'm super pregnant). We entered at the chocolate shop side, the inside is cute and intimate, the display of treats is beautiful. The woman behind the counter was unable to offer any detail when asked about what was in one of the truffles with no description. I ordered a box of 9, so far I've had two and I'm so disappointed. The strawberry margarita and the orange truffle had none of the flavors promised, and the chocolate itself is hard. It's very waxy chocolate, which is not what you would expect quality wise when paying about $4 each- and they are very small. I'd honestly say these are the quality of a Lindt bar, but with less flavor. As a kicker, the boxes are cheap and difficult to put back together, very frustrating. We popped in for date night and had a good time listening to a live R&B performance by Aden, who by the way was amazing!! Could not love this place more. The owner of the shop was there and she was simply fabulous. She offered my girls two free chocolates each and doted on them. She gave her background and was so personable and kind to our family, and anyone else who walked in the shop. There was a bit of a line but the amount of choices is nuts (in a good way!) so it takes some time for everyone to make decisions. They have a main area with bistro tables and the counters filled to the brim with all sorts of chocolate delicacies, wine for sale in addition to hot chocolate, coffees, and beer/coders, and a refrigerated case with amazing looking cakes. Me and my husband have been several times without kids and enjoyed their live music on the weekends; they have a back room set up for their rotating musicians. However, they have award winning drinks (such as hot chocolate, that comes in different flavors). I loved my experience, I went on a Friday night and saw Fingerprints perform. They were incredible, the ambiance and music was perfection!! I tried the chocolate mousse cake, it was good! About a 7/10 for me. The only disappointing thing was I had previously went to dinner elsewhere before arriving and was planning to enjoy a simple dessert and the live music but was told we would have to order a minimum of $30 per person to stay! I normally love coming to the live music nights and wanted to show a close friend how great the vibes are. We waited in line to get some sweets and some drinks but the cashier recommended that we go find a table instead and be served there. We found a table and the waiters overlooked us several times, going to all the tables around us. 13 minutes later a man comes and sits at our table says he is the waiter and then informs us that there is a $50 table charge. It came with nothing but getting to sit down. When I asked if there was an alternative like a standing area he said no. We proceeded to leave disappointed and won't be going back. Next is the food and wine selection, nice crisp wine with wonderful notes I tried a sauvignon blanc and it was so refreshing and tasty with my sandwich.
