I came here for my birthday dinner and overall had a great experience! We started with the House Salsa Tasting, which came with black bean refritos with cotija cheese, salsa macha, salsa roja, salsa borracha, salsa cruda (pico de gallo), and agave totopos. Every salsa had its own unique flavor, and they were all delicious. The chips were fresh and crispy, and we even ended up using some of the salsas with the rest of our meal because they were that good. Next, we ordered the Beef Quesabirria, which came with braised beef, Oaxaca cheese, salsa cascabel, birria consommé, pickled red onion, white onion, cilantro, lime, and flour tortillas. These were absolutely incredible. The beef was tender, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. The consommé was honestly a 10/10 and tied everything together. We also tried the Chicken Tinga Quesabirria, which came with chicken tinga, Oaxaca cheese, salsa cascabel, chicken birria consommé, pickled red onion, white onion, cilantro, lime, and flour tortillas. These were just as enjoyable! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and cooked really well. To finish, we were surprised with complimentary churros because it was my birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture. It was a great way to end the meal. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and the outdoor patio has a great atmosphere. The only downside during my birthday visit was the service. We waited over 15 minutes just to get our drinks and another 15-20 minutes before anyone came to take our food order. There were quite a few long gaps throughout the meal. Our server was friendly, but I expected quicker service, especially for a Wednesday evening around 7 p.m. That said, I actually returned a few days later, and the service was much better, so it seems like it may have just been an off night. Once again we decided to go to Anejo. It was fantastic. Food, atmosphere, and service were great. We got the tableside guacamole for a starter. It contained tomatoes, onions, cilantro, signature salt mix, avocado, garlic, jalapeño, lime, and tortilla chips. It is fresh, flavourful and vibrant. A great way to wake up your taste buds. And I love how it is constructed in front of you. Super fresh. Totally recommend this as a starter. We decided on the veggie quesabirria, and the smoked belly tacos. The veggie quesabirrias contained wild mushrooms, roasted bell peppers, charred onions, salsa macha, oaxaca cheese, vegetarian consomé, pickled red onions, white onions,cilantro, lime, and flour tortillas. The Smoked Pork Belly Tacos contained, crispy pork chicharrón, salsa borracha, onions, charred pineapple pico, cilantro and corn tortillas. Both tacos were delish. The veggie quesabirrias were so full of flavour that you won't miss the meat. There is also a good cocktail menu if that is your thing. We will definately be back. read more

Make a reso if you want to come during dinner time. We didn't realize we needed one and first time we tried to come we were quoted a 45 min wait. Returned with a reso and were impressed with food and ambiance of the restaurant, but service was substandard from initial host greeting to wait staff throughout. I think they may have been understaffed and our waitress responsible for too many tables, but regardless service was slow throughout our meal. We had table side guac (I honestly found it a little bit awkward watching the busser mash in front of us) very tasty - not spicy even with jalapeños. The coconut shrimp - good coconut flavour. And 3 tacos types carnitas, fish, beef. The pork carnitas were incredible and bursting with flavour. The fish was good. The beef was a little dry and lacking in flavour. Was a fun experience overall and will come back eventually but won't rush back. read more

Located in the popular area of the brewery district, this Mexican restaurant is a great option. We made a reservation for 5, and we were quickly seated in the terrace. The restaurant has two floors. The main floor is beautifully decorated. The patio is spacious and well decorated, but a bit loud. Our service was sweet, but she did mess up my drink order and only brought one order of the guacamole. The guacamole comes in a cool stone, and it is prepared on the table. It was tasty but nothing extraordinary. As a main, I got the mushroom tacos with a side of salsa. The tacos were good, but the pico de Gallo was bland. Well this is an exciting new place!! Happy hour edition of this joint, the regular menu looks fantastic but definitely gonna cost you infinitely more than HH. This place is going to make a billion dollars, it's hard to book and it's worth the wait. Mexican gastropub in the middle of the brewery district should and will be a license to print money for this spot. They plan to open 2 downstairs patio's and a rooftop one come summer...can I invest in this place? If you hit it between 3-5 you get a pretty ridiculously good happy hour consisting of cheap beer, wine, margaritas, and half price off EVERY tequila they carry...which is only like 100. Their tequila list is bigger than most wine lists I've seen at fancy steakhouses. Taco's are also 3 bucks which is an absolute steal We started with an assortment or taco's...barbacoa, chicken, pork, and crispy fish...everyone of them was outstanding! Had to go back and get another round of them and why not, 3 bucks!? They were more than worth it. Fair warning, after 5 they go to like 6 bucks per taco still good but much steeper obviously. They do a table side guacamole thing which is both a first for me and also really a neat experience. The server comes out with a giant volcanic rock looking bowl with all the makings of guac and while they chat you up the mix it all together give you endless house made corn tortillas chips and away you go! The drinks while reasonable in price were outstanding in taste, they were slammed so our first round took longer than our food did but we could understand. Outstanding margaritas! And it's nice to try a tequila that would normally cost 20 bucks an ounce to try the same one for 10, literally all their tequilas even the 170/oz ones are half off during happy hour!! All in all, it's a really cool place with a great vibe. I can't wait to go back, in fact my aunts bday is happening in a couple weeks and we are going for happy hour once more to celebrate. I think this place would be really excellent outside of the 3-5 window but it would definitely not be cheap, do yourselves the favour and hit up HH here and enjoy. This place opened up close to where Amber lives and she has been pushing for us to come here. Which is a good sign off the top. She works in restaurants and it takes good service to impress her. We ordered tacos. Amber did a mix of braised beef and pork while I mixed ordered fish and chorizo. All good, plus they have a spicy mayo along with a variety of other sauses to put in them. I had the ginger margarita. Good and tasty. Don't ask too many questions about the grasshopper salt rim. read more

I've been the original Calgary location and was so happy when they announced they were coming to YEG! And they have not disappointed. A rooftop patio, great decor, child friendly, and of course the great food gets Anejo into our regular dine out rotation. We love the queso fundido with chorizo sausage. Get it with the in house tortilla chips and it's a great appetizer for the table. The lunch taco deal is well priced and an easy way to try a variety of tacos. You can mix and match from their standard taco menu. The service is great. Lots of friendly staff that run food, clear tables, and take orders. I'll be back for my fundido! read more

My group requested a quiet spot and we were seated upstairs on the patio. Great spot in the summer and it will be functional and enclosed in the winter. Delicious drinks to start and a shared plate sampling of salsas. We had beef and chorizo tacos, prawn tacos and a shrimp dish. The shrimp dish was disappointing from the shrimpy shrimps to the veggies. No one could finish their meals though so we were filled. Terrific service. read more

My wife and I went here on February 15 for Valentines Day. She loves Mexican food and we heard good things about Anejo. The service was excellent - had a wonderful waitress and the greeters were terrific (and spoke Spanish). My wife had a Strawberry Rhubarb Margarita which was average. I had a Corona beer - they are always good in my books. We had two appetizers - I had the Guajillo Ribs. They were tender, but only average in taste. We also had Queso Fundido, which was excellent. In fact, it was the tastiest dish we had - I would order it again and just use that as our main meal. My wife then had the Chili Relleno which she enjoyed. According to her it was quite good. I had three tacos - the beef barbacoa, and the pork carnitas. I received 2 of the beef - though i had asked for a crispy fish. We never said anything because the was our server's first day on the job and she was wonderful - didn't want to fluster her. The Tacos were good - not great, but fine. The restaurant was very noisy - not only because it was full, but because the music was quite loud. It was sometimes difficult to carry on a conversation. Overall, a good experience. Price was reasonable for 2024. We will go here again. Probably the best Mexican food experience we have had in Edmonton in the last 7 years. read more

Went last night for the first time. We had Andy as our waitress and she is one of the best we have ever had. The food was amazing in fact a couple of the dishes were ordered twice by the same couple. Tacos were great and the fact that you can order 3 of them with different meat was a good deal. Our only concern was the noise level. Music was loud but when we asked if they could turn it down they did so right away. They are going to open a roof top patio in April that will be a great plus. Great atmosphere.....awful customer service from the beginning. they made us wait at least an hour, when we got in. they were about at least 5 empty tables. I do understand that they do have reservations. but, on the time that we waited we could easily eat. waitress service was really good, I feel bad because is the one who ask how was my experience so far. I told her, that so far was not good. then oh where wshould I start with the food. I ordered some birria tacos. the tortillas were ice cold, it was like if they grab them from the fridge and put the meat on top. I even asked my companion to check the temperature of the tacos. because, if I did not do that he wouldn't believe me. the birria - the sauce on which the tacos were cooked, was tasteless. the best of the tacos were the onions on it. they, again waitress asked me how was food - so I told her. she felt so bad, called manager and our food was complementary. we didn't have to pay. Then they offered, some sort of gift certificate. So we could come again - my answer was NO. if you really want to try some real Mexican food go to Frida's a few blocks west on Stony Plain Road. or go to Acajutla on 107 Ave. but, if you think that having that you are trying some Mexican real Mexican food - you should get out more often. Bruh, no joke my friend and I left this place more disappointed in its service than our current love life's. It took half an hour before our server came to get our drink and food order, food came out before the drinks which is WHACK, 6 shrimp cost me $17 with no salad or sides at all, I repeat 6 SHRIMP = $17. We went for the soft opening of Anejo a few months ago and it was the day the restaurant restablished a wonderful reputation for itself in my eyes! Everything was on point, the service, from the welcoming host to a professional server and a generous manager who made sure our experience was the best it could be, to delicious and flavorful dishes we had a chance to try. My favorite one was the spicy Mezcal Adobo Mussels, so I'd definitely recommend those for everyone coming to eat there. We finished the night off with a few of the many wonderful cocktails that were on the menu, and Anejo is now one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city! read more
