Decided to try this place during dining week. The ambiance was good. We sat at the bar and got served drinks fairly quickly. The food was ok, the avocados fries tasted great and came out fast. We also ordered varios tacos and a churro sundae. The tacos took a very long time to come out about 45 mins. They took so long that we ordered chips and guacamole to hold us over, which was very tasty. Once the tacos were served they were ok. Typically when you order tacos you get lime and hot sauce. In this case we didn't get lime or hot-sauce. The churro sundae took about 25 mins to come out after we had our tacos. The sundae was taken off the bill since it took so long, which was good. If you are wanting tacos, I would not recommend it. If you want to have drinks and some appetizers, you will like it. read more

Such a cool hole in a wall restaurant! Located right next to a park on Jasper Avenue. El Beso is a Mexican restaurant and bar. My partner and I got different margaritas. Mine, the guava margarita, was somewhat tasteless. My partner really enjoyed his drinks. However, for being priced at over $14 per drink I think the drinks were not worth it. We ordered the taste menu for $35 with 3 courses. The tostadas were bland and boring. The tacos were decent but still somewhat tasteless. I expected more of some of the tacos such as more cumin. For dessert I got the chocolate cake which was delicious. My partner got the churro ice cream sandwich. In summary, El Beso lacked that extra thing to make it actually worth it. Great spot for some elevated Mexican dishes, and all your regular faves. The homemade chips were very nicely seasoned and went great with the guacamole. All of the tacos were fantastic, but the Birria were next level - the crispy cheese on the outside was exactly how I wanted it to be. The cocktails didn't even last for a photo! Nice intimate restaurant, small but perfect for dinner with friends. The service was really good, although I did feel a little rushed at the end, we were done eating and it wasn't too busy on a Thursday night, but it felt like they really wanted us to give up the table - we didn't linger long but would have loved a few more minutes to visit. read more

Loved this little joint! This review comes a little late as I have been slacking in getting the good word out there. Had a work/pleasure dinner here with a colleague and we enjoyed it very much! We chose to sit on the patio which is always good for people watching and banter over drinks and some quality grub. My friend loved the margaritas here and we had a mix of their tacos. I will most definitely be back! One drawback is the parking and probably why I hadn't ventured here before. I always find Jasper locations not so fun to park. It wasn't too bad though and I will most definitely be back. read more

We stopped here for a "snack" while waiting for our pick-up order from Bao Bao nearby. Well that "snack" turned into a $78 bill *face palm*. One cocktail each for hubs & I plus a $5 glass of store-bought OJ for the little guy; an order of chorizo tacos and an order of chips & guac. Yikes! I couldn't imagine what a full dinner bill would look like. Service on the patio was friendly, if not too chatty IMO. But tables were distanced appropriately and it was nice to sit within Beaver Hills Park to watch people. read more

Came here for the Zipstall Yelp event and it was set up so nicely. We used our Zipstall dollars for food and drinks which were very delicious. They had vegetarian option for tacos which was great but my boyfriend and I decided on the chicken tacos. The non-alcoholic margaritas were amazing - and overall great atmosphere with the music going. It was OK. I had the cauliflower tacos which had huge chunks of aged cheese on them that made for some very bitter bites. The cheese should have been shredded on top to even the flavours out better. We also had the guac and chips which were also OK. The guac was browning around the edges making it very clear that it wasn't freshly prepared and had been sitting awhile. I think this is a heat and plate type establishment, it wasn't freshly made. The service was terrible. We were the only people there other than a staff table of staff and their friends chatting. Our server got our drinks and then went to stand around the bar with about four other workers who weren't doing anything other than chatting at the bar. I spent a good 10 minutes staring her down waiting to order before she came back to take our orders. Same problem once we were finished eating. She was constantly at the bar on her phone and not serving her *gasp* one table. read more

So I was pretty excited to visit this new tequila and taco bar. Pretty non descript on the inside and a few patio tables on the outside which were not in an pretty position (drunk people in the park next to us is not what I would call a relaxing atmosphere). If you want a patio then perhaps put a decorative fence around it with foliage. Service was spotty and inattentive. It seemed like our server had better things to do than serve us. Menu was skimpy. Tacos and a couple of main dishes. Drink menu was good. We ordered a jalapeno margarita and a coconut margarita. Both drinks were delicious. That is where they get their star. Drinks were excellent. We ordered some happy hour tacos - a vegan, fish, shrimp and chicken for me. My husband ordered the pork and chicken. Fucking disappointing. The portions are horrific. My three year old could have eaten these four tacos and still be hungry. We were shocked. We actually left here and went to another place and still ate a full meal. And for flavour wise ...pretty mediocre. I could have named at least 5 other places that served more flavourful (and substantially larger) tacos. The only one that I thought was well done was the vegan hibiscus taco which was delicious but absolutely tiny. I could have eaten 10 and probably gone to eat somewhere else. Two big thumbs down. The only reason why I would go here is to grab a margarita here during happy hour. SKIP IT! Go eat somewhere else...not a great atmosphere, not great service, crappy food. read more

Cocktails, ambiance and customer service was really great. Food is severely lacking. Guacamole looked and tasted like the prepackaged stuff you get from superstore - no flavour. Enchiladas were a disappointment. Tasted like it came from the frozen aisle. It's definitely not an enchilada you would normally think of. Tried this out last weekend with some friends. Service is up there in the top end of the spectrum, though it did take us a while to get our bill when we'd been told we needed to vacate our table at seven and we were ready to do so. That was offset by the authentic and effusive welcome we received, though. Margaritas were tasty in a variety of incarnations, and we enjoyed the guacamole in the mortar and pestle arrangement. We had a table but the bar looks like a good place to hang out. Love the location and would go again for a longer visit. read more

Went for a friends birthday; had the beyond meat tacos and really liked them. They were filling and tasted super fresh. The ambiance was perfect, I had a glass of white wine that was delicious and the server was on top of things. I don't love tequila and don't always want to get premium liquor for a mixed drink is my only note. Like the previous review, cool ambiance, decent cocktails great service, and then you get the food.... this is where it falls apart. We started with the chorizo empanadas (they were out of the braised beef) which tasted alright but the texture was soggy and doughy. Next we had the al pastor tacos, 4 for $15, they were small, under seasoned and topped with unripened pineapples. Lastly we had the fajitas for $20. This was just bad, a lukewarm mishmash of rice, canned black beans and I'm pretty sure frozen corn niblets served with store bought flour tortillas. Sauce is not served in a small serving dish, just laid out on the tray for you to try and scoop up onto your tortilla with a fork. This place is obviously a bar with food as an afterthought. We were in the mood for queso fundido and after a long day of work didn't feel like driving to our go to -- Huma. El Beso was one of the only places that offered it on delivery. We opened the container with the instructions to bake -- it was a container of prepared shredded cheese mix like you get from a Kraft package at a grocery store. That is not queso. The chorizo was provided on the side (also not good). Should've been warned by reviews on Google that their guac tasted like the stuff you buy at Safeway. Suspect that most of their food is prepackaged grocery items (and not even from Mexican stores). We ordered carnitas to get the order to free delivery and have never seen such tiny corn tortillas with a small container of meat and bland salsas (again seemed to be out of a grocery store jar). We now have so many good Mexican restaurants in the city. Will never order from them again. Our laziness for delivery came with a huge price! read more

Never Order Take-out From here. Where to begin. I have gotten food from here before with no issue. Good Mexican food, good service. Unfortunately today I had the worst experience I have ever had dealing with a restaurant. When I had Ordered my food online I was given a pickup time for 7 oclock. Previously when I had ordered here I was notified that when I was going to pick up the food, it might be a little late. Without this notice this time I drove half an hour from my house to pick up the food. I was told to wait 15-20 minutes and it would be ready. after 40 Minutes of driving around called again, and was told the exact same thing, sating that the restaurant had to take a massive amount of orders and that it would be ready in 20 -30 minutes. Tired of waiting but still wanting food we decided to persist. 2 hours after our scheduled pickup time I had not received a call. I kept calling, but no one picked up. I finally had to walk in and ask the staff what the issue was but was told to wait another half an hour. Because It was getting dark, and This was the food that was supposed to feed my family for the night I had to cancel the order and leave empty handed after almost 2 and a half hours of waiting. This is my second time dealing with the pick up and the first time was not nearly as bad as the most recent. However this was completely unacceptable way to treat my time. I will not be ordering here again and advise others to find other Mexican places. There are many intown with just as good food and better service. read more
