There was a ton of hype going around for this Mexican restaurant, so we decided to see what the fuss was all about. I have to say it was a bit underwhelming. The place is fairly small with only about 4 real tables, and then some bar like seating. It's got a trendy vibe going on, neon light signs and Spanish music playing loudly. We came right when the opened at noon for lunch. Once we sat down it took a while to get a menu and water. We ordered the fish tacos and Mexican rice. The battered fish was tasty but it all tasted a bit flat with the garlic cream sauce and avocado. Maybe I should have added hot sauce, but I'm not a fan of spicy, but it just tasted a bit bland to me. And I guess I'm not a fan of soft corn tacos. They do have some crazy drinks on their menu, frozen margaritas with a beer stuck in it, and a few others but we didn't order any. All in all it was ok, but not great. Nothing was particularly bad, but this place is not worth the hype in my opinion. read more

The place is awesome inside, although it is smaller so come early or make a reservation. The service is fast and very friendly and the pricing is pretty damn good. The drinks are all phenomenal. I had what I would call a Mexican old fashioned and loved it. Also had a jalapeño margarita which was super. However they dont have a wine list. Not the end of the world but a couple ladies in our party were shocked. The desserts were so tasty the tres leche cake and the churros but sadly the mains were not amazing. Everything else was so good but no mains were mind blowing. We had various platters and had a good selection of tacos and it was bland. The quesadilla was the best thing we ate for mains. Finally made it to El Mero Mero. I'd been waiting for a time to go late afternoon before it gets busy. It's yummy! The whole thing, food, atmosphere, drinks, all good. Tons of free parking right out front. It's not a large place, but it's roomy enough. There's a wall of lovely, neat, unique, assorted things available for purchase. It's visually compelling. The assortment of things is eclectic and useful. Tried the beef brisket tacos and the Camaron tacos as well as the gordita and sopas. Liked them all. We had a bulldog and a Pina colada, both good. This is my 2nd time coming here. I'm not sure if its just because I've got higher expectations for birria tacos since I've tried some really good ones or that the flavour here was lacking. I'm also not a big fan of how they organized their menus, happy hour menu was very vague and you'd have to double check with the staff which of their drinks were "specials". The jalapeno margarita was actually spicy which I liked and the pina colada wasn't bad either. I like that there's local products being sold in the store! read more

First time wasn't great but it was their first week of opening the restaurant so I hope it gets better. Some of the issues I had were seasoning levels. Some dishes were bland and others were too salty. This tells me that their cooks/chef may not be tasting everything that goes out to the customers. The tortilla soup tasted like it was boiling for too long and the broth had concentrated down to a soup stock. We couldn't finish the soup because the salt was burning our tastebuds. I went again to see if there were any improvements and the food was more balanced but I couldn't bring myself to order the soup again. The Birria Taco needs the sauce because the meat is slightly dry and under seasoned. When paired with the sauce it is a tasty dish. We received free tortilla chips and salsa and the overwhelming flavour was salt. The chips were salted and the salsa was quite salty and when the two were combined it almost burnt my palate. The first few bites were good but I couldn't eat many more because of the sodium levels. The ambiance is cute but it's not really child friendly so leave your toddlers at home. I like the view into the kitchen area but if the seasoning levels continue to be way off then there's no benefit to look into the kitchen and watch them prepare the food. read more

Tooth in my taco. Yep a tooth in my beef taco. Do cows have teeth that look like this? Originally we were told it was a shrimp tail that went through the fryer. We didn't complain, we didn't make a scene, didn't get loud or rude. We were offered a 20% discount. Then we were told 20% and dessert, then they gave us half off the platter and offered us dessert. No appetite to eat anything after maybe having (something) else's teeth in your mouth! We don't eat pork, and we were assured it wasn't pork. What was it? Came here for their opening day and it was really fun! They have some amazing homemade tortillas and nacho chips available for purchase. We tried a ton of food that day as we really wanted a full menu experience and it was good!! We had all kinds of tacos and our favourite was the birria as it had the best flavour. Second would be the fish tacos as they were also soooo good. The rest of the tacos were also good but those are the two I would highly recommend. We also had some delicious cocktails!! Wow wow wow their cocktails weee honestly one of the best I've had in a while. My favourite was the cacao espresso one. It was soooo yummy. And the Margarita was true to flavour and had some good tequila in it. The desserts were also really good with my favourite being the leche flan. The churros were really huge and thick, a little doughy still and the caramel dulce de leche sauce on there has a different flavour that we didn't enjoy as much. Would recommend the chocolate sauce if you're getting these. This place is family owned and they have some food trucks as well, this is their first location that is brick and mortar so it's great to see they are expanding! The service here is impeccable. They really pay attention to details and we felt very well taken care of! Everyone was friendly and doing such a great job! If you're in this area, swing by for some tacos and a cocktail! read more

Originally a food truck, this restaurant just opened up last Thursday. I was excited to try it from all the hype from the local influencers. For my first experience, I felt that the food was lacking. The dishes came out quickly and were attractively plated. However, the majority of the food I tried had issues with seasoning/flavour. The tortilla soup was way too salty and surprisingly lukewarm in temperature. My first thought was how come this soup is not hot? We informed our server about the saltiness. My mom and I even asked for some hot water to dilute the soup and to warm it up at the same time. Unfortunately, the hot water didn't help much. Even after adding half a cup of hot water the soup was still too salty. My mom was not able to finish her soup. My mom's Pescado lacked any flavour as well as my Dorados de Pollo. I used a lot of hot sauce to add some flavour. The chicken in my dish was dry and hard to chew. My mom and I enjoyed the horchata drink. We also liked the flavour of the appetizer Queso Fundido with added chorizo (which is why it tasted good). Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes but I was surprised about the overall lack of flavour. Our total bill came to about $94 (including my dad's dish Birria which I did not mention or take a picture of). For the amount we paid I was a bit disappointed with the quality and taste of the food we ate. I totally understand that the restaurant is brand new. I'm sure given time things will improve. The restaurant is already quite busy. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Hopefully, they can improve the seasoning/flavour to match the wonderful presentation of their dishes. read more

Came to El Mero Mero with friends and was very impressed. We sat out on the patio, which effectively a liberation of the sidewalk area out front with some bench seating tables and umbrellas. Our servers we fantastic and certainly there is a focus on ensuring you are well taken care of. As we were with friends and their pre-teen boys, we had ordered some chips and guac, which came out first. The Guac is first class, still some chunks of avo, with chopped tomato and onion. Yum. I had ordered the Enchiladas De Mole con Pollo. Which is 3 sizable Enchiladas with heaps of Mole over the enchiladas. The mole had a really balanced flavour profile with Cocoa and spice, with a little bit of heat. I was a bit surprised as the filling with the enchiladas was only shredded chicken. Would have thought there would have been a bit more for fillings. Overall, I like El Mero Mero, good food, and top notch service. While the food was good, it felt like there was something missing. We had heard about this place from some friends and had driven by a couple of times, so we tried it out for my Birthday dinner on a Friday evening in August. We arrived around 6:30 - 6:45pm and it just happened to be a big rush. We did want to sit indoors because it was a hot night out, and the only 2 tables left were their "couch" style round seats. I'll talk about that later..... Our server came by to drop off menus, but she was quite busy as was the other server that evening. The service overall was okay for our dinner, but wasn't great. We ordered the Gordita con Queso y Carnitas to start, and our mains were the Dorados de Papa, and my spouse had the Quesadillas. Our table was right in front of the kitchen, and they worked pretty quickly during the time we were there. They got food out pretty fast. Our meals came out in about 15-20 mins, but when our server brought out our mains, she asked if we ever got our appetizer. I said no, and she apologized and went back to get it. She came back with our appetizer quickly and said that someone had removed it from the system saying that it had already been received. When she brought out the appetizer, it was the wrong one, it was the Gordita con Queso, not the carnitas. We told our server about it and she apologized again and ended up removing it from our bill completely. My husbands quesadillas were okay. It was a cheese quesadilla. Nothing special. My Dorados were good, could have used more seasoning of some sort. When we finished our meals, our server didn't remove our plates until we ordered dessert which were the churros and the Pastel Tres Leches. Both desserts came out quickly and they were both tasty. We'd get the churros again, but not the Tres Leches. Overall, our food was okay. We would go again and give it another shot. Things that we didn't particularly like and that's why it ended up with 3 stars: - I had read the reviews about the seating and didn't quite understand why people would complain about the chairs. I get it now. It was probably THE worst seating we've ever sat in. The bench style seating is very uncomfortable. There's no back on the bench, it's quite soft, and then the table in the middle is too low and small for the bench. The stools at the high top tables didn't appear to be any better. They were stools that had a formed butt shape in them, with an edge around it. So if your butt didn't fit in that perfect shape, you were sitting on a hard edge digging into your rear while you're trying to enjoy your meal. Whomever ordered the furniture wasn't thinking of these things clearly. Hopefully they'll change this as it's a huge deterrent and super uncomfortable. - The service was just okay. Not overly pleasant and didn't really know how to deal with crowds. There was a crowd of younger girls (around 8 ladies) that took over the cash area, and they ended up sitting on our bench which was quite rude. They were waiting for a dessert to be made for take out, but one of the servers should have asked a majority of them to wait outside. They had already been sitting outside for their meal, but came in to pay and just hung out there while they were waiting for the dessert. - The food was good, but needed a bit more seasoning. It was kind of bland. - and the menu is brutal to see on their website. read more

First thing I want to say is that our server was wonderful. She went out of her way to apologize for the long delay in the food arriving and provided us with complimentary salsa and chips. Apparently they have had a turn over in staff and the kitchen staff was in training, etc. I had the Gringa plate. It was quite greasy. My wife had an enchilada. It was good, but not great. Overall, it was pricey for what we would consider very average Mexican food. My wife loves Mexican food and would go again to give them another chance. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, and felt like we paid a lot of money for a mediocre meal. Hopefully they will get their staffing and kitchen issues settled soon. read more

Easy to find with Google Maps but quite out of the way for both me and my friend I invited to try this place. Also, not near anything so when I arrived early there was nothing to do (no coffee shop to kill time at). Fun front of restaurant that is eye catching and pleasing. Specials for the day were interesting but the flan was posted as $8 and that is the Normal price... Staff were really kind and when we asked to sit outside she immediately brought a jug of water as it was quite hot. Decor inside is very cool and lots of cool trinkets + foods to take home. Bathrooms are single-person. Very clean. We shared the Gordita con Queso which was a thick corn cake (I also know as an arepa) filled with mild gooey cheese. It was kind of bland but carb and cheese who can go wrong! I tried the Pescado - fish taco! It was 10/10 good. Cod was good size, good batter. Nice sauce. Fresh slaw. Friend got the Quesadilla but asked for the Alambre taco to be inside of it (peppers, onion, mushrooms, cheese). She gave it a 10/10. I also got a random Mini Pan Dulce. It was yummy but not my favorite. Overall food was 10/10 and I would love to come back and try the Tamal appetizer and enchiladas! read more

My son has been raving about El Mero Mero since he moved to Edmonton. He took me there on Friday and it lived up to his billing. The food was fantastic. Made me want to head back to PV right away. The staff were wonderful too. Great feel to the restaurant also. Loved it so much that we went back on Saturday for round dos. Mexican music playing inside and outside, they have a patio area but it was raining, came around 3 & no one was here so service was excellent. The appetizer was #amazeballs. The 5 flavours we got were Birra, we rate it 4/5. Chicken, 2/5, pork 2/5, fish 4.5/5, coconut shrimp 3.5/5. Then for dessert we rate that 1.5/5-they were hot and hard as a rock. No bueno. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful dining experience here. The food, ambiance and service were excellent. The atmosphere was inviting and looked beautiful, the Mexican music was upbeat and lively putting you in the mood for a great time. As for the food we were very impressed, I am very happy that we picked the taco platter, each taco was delightful and packed with flavour, the guacamole was very fresh and delicious, and my lime margarita just complimented the meal greatly. I went there for today for valentines day with my husband. Being taco Tuesday you will get an extra taco which is cool, but this is what I found in the last bite of our Birria tacos.. a artery atleast 2 inches long.. they didn't even offer any discount or anything when we let our waitress know.. carnitas tacos had a huge lack of flavour and so did the birria.. which is pretty upsetting cause we were pretty excited about this place and for 60 bucks for 2 people u think it would be higher quality. You can tell that they are new and have kinks to work out. Service was slow and the seating doesn't work. The server apologized and said they are looking at different seating. However it is bright and welcoming. And our server was lovely but overwhelmed. Menu was good. Lots of different tacos to try. Flavour was a bit lacking. For the good the pescado (fish) tacos were really well battered, and between well fried fish, crunchy coleslaw and the spicy mayo it was a great balance. Birria tacos had a decent amount of meat but really needed more spice in the meat. Also the menu said their would be melted cheese but as you can see from my photos there wasn't any. Howerver the dipping sauce was rich and paired well with the tacos. What was disappointing was Dorados de Papa - deep fried tacos stuffed with potatoes. Overcooked and really bland. And I also really think they need their own hot sauce or salsa and not the store brand slopped on table which i needed to ask for.. I am hoping that they will tweak thier recipes and figure own their sauces and it wlll be a place to return to. read more

We shared the Cameron and Pescado tacos. They had no flavour, seriously, it was as if the cooks forgot to add seasoning of any sort. No condiments to add on the table, and the waitress forgot our appetizer entirely. The forgetfulness I can understand as the place was a bit busy (why not right the items down instead of trying to devote to memory?), but the lack of flavour is a sin. Wonderful friendly and quick service, delicious and creative food options and a lovely atmosphere and vibe. We ordered Tacos mostly and they were all equally juicy and flavorful. The classic beef Tacos with the beef broth dip was making me want to swim in the soup. The crispy taco with chicken was a wonderful texture and flavor. And I appreciate that all the dishes gave fresh veggies on top of each taco to add more textures, flavors and aesthetic value. The drinks were well made as well with the horchata we ordered. LOVED IT!!!! Husband took me here for a day date. I had the barbacoa tacos, and my husband had the adobada tacos, they were delicious, almost like back home. I loved the Cafe de Olla,(husband) and I had a Paloma. It was delicious. There's a few things they sell t-shirts, cups, baseball caps and sweet bread (individually wrapped) for u to take home. My point, if u are looking for Mexican tacos and that authentic feel, u need to come here. If ur not ur missing out. After three visits to Mero Mero I feel I can write a review. This is a very nice place, I loved the music selection, the atmosphere and the service, also you can see how the tortillas and the churros are made! Few years ago I wouldn't even think about highchairs or kids friendly places, but now with two kids that is the first thing I notice. There are not highchairs or a baby change station. Food wise, if your want to try different tacos, you should get the platter! I LOVE the suadero tacos! They are so tasty, the meat was perfectly cooked, the size of the tortilla is excellent. The pastor are just okay, smaller tortilla, and the pineapple a bit overcooked; and the carnitas one was a bit sweet for my taste. The guacamole and fresh chips are great appetizers. Next time I will order some enchiladas and the alambre! The location is perfect, we haven't had a Mexican restaurant in the west side in a while! I'll keep coming to this place, it's very promising! read more

Was really looking forward to this place, loved their food truck when tried in the past. Even came for my birthday. I wish I would have gone elsewhere, there was only 1 server for the whole place at lunch time (& they are located in an industrial area - so the place was packed)+ she was the bartender as well. So drinks & service was slow. Food was as bland as it comes. Nothing really had much flavour, except the margaritas those were perfect - the feature Christmas Margarita was a tasty treat. I want to start off saying that the atmosphere was terrific and so was the service. We had questions about the menu and our server knew the answers. El Mero Mero was recommended to me by someone who once reviewed your restaurant, so I was quite excited to share this place with my friends! Since I moved the Edmonton, I've had Birria tacos a number of times. The two other people in my party had never had them before, so one of them copied my order to try them! We had gone to two other Mexican restaurants in the last few weeks, so we had seen the way different places do tacos. Now, again I want to preface that the one person ordered the enchiladas and they were honestly a 5/5. Great flavor, meat was tender, the green sauce was terrific. Now the birria tacos. I don't want to go off about how bad they were, so I'm just going to make a few points. Firstly, I feel you guys were almost out of meat when you made our order. The tacos were served closed, folded in half and they were so thin you could only see the tortilla. The tortilla itself was soggy to the point of wet. The taco couldn't even hold up to dipping into the consommé because the tortilla was so wet. I understand that different restaurants can represent different regions and cooking styles, but I've never Not had a crispy birria taco, so I think that threw me off. Seeing tacos get brought out, they honestly looked fantastic. After seeing our parties meals, and other tacos getting brought out to other tables, I just don't see how you guys let our food come out. Looking at peoples photos on here, after our visit, these were not your usual product. It's unfortunate. Edmonton has some real hit and Miss issues with Mexican restaurants.
