This was our second year doing this. Last year my wife and I did the 5K. This year, we decided to do the fun run with our kids. The fun fun is $25 per person...you get a shirt, same medal as 5K, ticket to future game (3 of them are games with a giveaway), and a coupon for a free Jersey Mikes sub! The 5K is $40 per person...you get the same things, the only difference is length of run and the fact that the 5K is timed. One of the highlights is that part of the run takes you down in the field (through the warning tracks) and you get to see yourself for a brief moment on the Jumbotron! I think we found a new family tradition!

    Registration for 2016 is open.

Really the event/race is a solid 4 but I'm rounding up because of some of the perks. It's more of a friendly family 5k fun run/walk than it is an actual race. My advice to anyone actually running to get a good time is to make your way to the front of the start line because a lot of people walk this race & none of the people walking are aware that they should be on the right side so that runners can actually pass. Besides the walkers everything else is good, the course is flat so you have a chance to PR your 5k time, they have a fair amount of vendor booths with free give always before & after the face, the stadium is open so there are real restrooms to use instead of yucky porta potties. Toward the end of the race you get to run on the warning track inside the field at Angels Stadium. They also have a chip timing device on your bib so you can find your official time online after the race, & you also get a ticket voucher good for select games from April - September. For a $40-$45 race you get your money's worth with a nice Tech shirt, finishers medal, & ticket voucher. This race will be in my yearly rotation of runs to do.

My third year running the Angels 5K. Great ballpark to run your 5k here. I'm not a runner or built like a runner; I've got thick legs and a squishy stomach and I don't eat vegetables. Chubby and short. Lol. Running was the last element of fitness I learned to enjoy. Developing the mental capacity to enjoy running is something I have never managed to do. I think the hardest part of a race isn't getting to the finish line, it's getting to the starting line. It takes a lot of dedication to sign up for the race and put on the running shoes. All the runners and staff here were extremely friendly. Usually the Angels pitcher will be at the finish line passing out medals. Will run again next year.

    So ready for tomorrow!

Someone challenged me to a 5K and I told them forget it. Then I saw this race... Being a die hard Angels fan I had to do it. My friend and I did this race last year. We had a blast!!! We got out in the sun, fresh air, the icing on the cake was we were able to walk on the field. At the end of the race they had water, fruit, and bars to recharge you. Everyone that helped put on the race was amazing. After the race they have a party with amazing free Angels stuff. This is great for you and your family to get out there and be active while having a great time. We had so much fun we signed up again this year.

I enjoy doing this run every year! It's a great way to get in some healthy physical activity, that is not overtaxing, and the money goes to one of the several youth organizations with the Angels Baseball Foundation supports. It's low key, not too intense, hence it is a "fun run". There are no medals, just t-shirts and fun times. Get to walk around the field and get in some cool photo ops in the dug out! A good activity for the family!

I love this run, I am will give it 4 stars and chose it over another favorite of mine - The Seal Beach Run. There was also the HollywoodHalf Hollywood 5K happening as well. I am an Angels fan and running through the stadium is always awesome. Hector Santiago passed out Medals and was very accommodating with pictures and is a very cool guy. The good bits: The course is actually fast even with the drop into the field and the run out. Something about running on the warning tract REALLY gets you going (towards the end of mile 2). Packet pick up the day before was much quicker then last year. The expo was cool with a good mix of everything. You get a great Tee and a Medal. The free ticket voucher is limited like last year but still a cool perk. The promise of a Mike Trout Bobblehead for running 2016 and next year will bring me back. The Bad.... C'mon people... "Fun Run" and "Run" do not mix. Like so many of these family races it's time to grow up. You need at least two waves (something many runs are doing lately). The start was chaotic with every causal runner mixed it with people who actually care that this was timed. In the beginning I like so many had to run outside the pylons on the street to avoid the masses who all decided to walk on the left side side by side with their friends and family, There was literally no where else to go. The entire race was like that for me. People were all over the place walking and running all over the place. To make matters worse as I we finally got to enter the stadium - always a problem with congestion - masses of walkers came from another direction (?) (!) and entered the same small space with us! This is the highlight of the run and people are constantly stopping to take a selfie and you feel like a jackass for asking people to step aside so you can run. How to fix? The first thing you can do is empower your MC to instruct the runners of the "Rules of the Road". Part of this is giving him a sound system that works. These last few years I have been fairly close and you can only hear him from about 50 feet away. People are speaking on stage and I can hear you they are. I couldn't hear the national anthem. Disney also does these types of event runs and they are very good about repeating the rules of the road in their media and on site - it doesn't mean the novices are going to listen but at least they are trying. Start a "Timed Run" at 7:30am and a "Fun Run/Walk" at 8:30am instead of one big wave at 8am. You had at least 4500. You can do this. A few other tidbits: The bathrooms in the stadium are open - if one seems crowded just so to the next set - very few people do this. And... because the the stadium is open you have some chances at cool infield pics as you go to the restroom - instead of being a jackhole and blocking runners on the warning tract. There are also some opportunities to have some pictures taken with Angel player standees for the Fun Runners. This could be an Amazingly Fast Run towards anyone's PR if they could figure out a way to separate the Runners from Fun Runners. I Hope they do! I will be back next year. This was 200th Run since June 2012!

With the upcoming…read moreconstruction, it was announced there were not going to be anymore races for the foreseeable future here on the West Coast. This was the last race on Feb1 as the 5k and 10k took place the prior days. From what I gather from others, this can take many years to come back. I believe this was a new half marathon course at least new to me since the Star Wars Half days. This course was very refreshing, the stretch of it on Anaheim Blvd, running past the Packing District and the Ducks ice rink. The good thing about the "out and back" parts is seeing if you can spot the "balloon ladies" if it's a concern or maybe friends who run at a different pace or checking out their fits. I appreciated the DJ's and bands out there. They brought the energy! Everything was just so cute with the "It's a Small World Theme" but maybe I'm biased because I happen to love the color purple as in the bib, medal, and long sleeve tech t-shirt. It delighted me to see several runners dressed in this theme because I'm not creative enough to assemble my own costumes. PhotoPass photo opportunities were inside the park and some at the reunion area. These digital photos are included in registration and show up in the app same day. I must say the finish line replica photo op in the reunion area was a time consumer in the hot sun. Powerade was the electrolytes on course. I was wondering how they were able to get the taste and concentration consistent to realize they were being poured from the plastic bottles. Not too much to sample or any freebies at the expo if you compare that with other major race expos. The post-run snacks are not much nor memorable unless you count that nacho-like cheese from the box. IYKYK Yes, you pay a pretty penny just to participate but only you put a value on this experience. I would say if you're a Disney fan and have the means, to just do it one time for the experience but that dream has run out luck on this coast for now.

I followed the official RunDisney training program from their website and trusted the process--even when life was busy and motivation was low. Race morning was early (very early), but the energy, costumes, music, and Disney magic made every mile worth it. Running through Disneyland in the dark, then heading outside the parks with rolling hills, the heat that I did not prepare for was challenging--but unforgettable. These are the things that really helped me: 1. Enlist a buddy to do it with you. I somehow managed to persuade my oldest son to come with his mama. My son who is in his prime, who at the time just came back from officer training school (boot camp). He was jumping, singing, running circles around me during the race, yelling out motivational pep talks. It was kinda annoying and motivating at the same time. 2. Use the free pacers There are multiple pacing groups, and sticking with one helps you stay calm, consistent, and confident. It really helped to see a whole group pushing through. Being next them reminded me about Dory..."Just keep swimming... Just keep running!" 3. Arrive early + move up in your corral We arrived around 4:15 AM, which gave us time to settle in and get closer to the front of the corral--huge stress reducer. 4. Stay close to the start line if possible We stayed at a hotel near the start, walked over, and later met my hubby near the mall. Less logistics = less stress. 5. Go to the Expo on Day 1 Exclusive merch sells out fast (RIP glow-in-the-dark shoes). The expo is free, fun, and has lots of freebies. Pro tip: go again on the last day for sales. 6. Practice in your costume This is non-negotiable. What feels cute for 10 minutes may not feel cute at mile 9. I practiced in my Ursula costume a handful of times. I saw people ditching parts of their costumes. 7. Hydration is covered Water and electrolytes are provided on course. I didn't need to carry water, but some people prefer to--do what works for you. 8, Know the course You start inside Disneyland, then head outside the parks where the hills show up. Save your energy for those miles. 9. Pictures Make sure your number is visible. Photos come free with it. There a a good number of photo opp in the parks. Unfortunately we couldn't stop since we were the last coral. So we did "passing" video shots. You should practice doing this. 10. Volunteers The volunteers outside of Disney were awesome! Seeing the signs, hearing the encouragement, and grabbing the sweets helped a ton. Soak it in and it will keep you motivated I discovered that I hate running long distance. At the same time I also realized I like doing it at Disney and after the race I told my son lets do the Dopey Challenge next. Where you run the 5k, 10 k and half marathon all in the same weekend. Of course my sweet son replied, "sure thing mom as long as your paying." This race reminded me that you don't have to be perfect--you just have to..... "just keep running, just keep running, running....running". If you're thinking about doing a RunDisney race, especially your first half marathon, do it. Train smart, trust the plan, and soak in every magical mile.

The course ended up being about 2.5 miles. There was only ONE water station for the entire run, which is pretty unacceptable even for a fun run. Parking was another mess. They didn't mention any parking fees until two days before the event via text, and when we got there, it was just employees standing around with bags collecting $20 cash. No cards and no prior clear communication. It felt very unprofessional. Bib pickup was probably the worst part. The pickup itself was on Friday, but we were only told about the 4-8 PM window the Monday before, which is already short notice. When we got there, it took an hour and a half just to get to the front of the line, and that was with VIP. I've done much larger events before, and none of them were anywhere near this chaotic. The race start itself made no sense. Instead of organized waves, they just had everyone crowd at the gate and go at once. The course clearly wasn't designed to handle that many people. It was overcrowded, with lots of people walking, and we were constantly dodging others and even low hanging tree branches. I'm 5'9 and the person I ran with is 6'4, and it genuinely felt unsafe at times trying to avoid both people and obstacles. If you're actually trying to run, this is not the event for you. You won't be able to maintain any kind of pace. They also offered the option to create a team name online that would appear on your bib, but when I showed up, it was just a generic bib with a duck and a number. No customization and no tracking, which makes the bib feel pointless. Honestly, it's something that could have just been printed at home. Overall, this felt poorly planned and poorly executed. It might be fine if you're just going for a casual, messy experience, but if you expect even basic race organization, this will be disappointing.

"The Happiest Race on Earth"…read more Years ago, I had friends that would drive all the way to Disneyland to do the Tinker Bell runs every single year. They would tell me how they would get dressed up and run through the park. I would look at their photos and it looked fun. But back then, running wasn't as big of a deal to me. Disney held their first marathon at Walt Disney World in 1994. Disneyland started theirs the following year. Over the years, runDisney became a half marathon and added 5K and 10K runs. Each half marathon weekend has a different theme to it. These races allow you to run through the theme parks with live entertainment and Disney characters sightings along the way. The runs include a finisher's medal, all sorts of swag and timed results. As I was doing some reading up on these races, I started to realize how big of deal and popular they are. Majority of the runDisney races take place at Disney World in Florida. Disneyland had canceled their runs in 2018 when they were building Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and also because of the pandemic. In 2024, they decided to bring back their half marathon weekend after a seven year hiatus. These days I am big into running and do about ten competitive races a year. I also come from a family of Disney fanatics. I mentioned to my sister that the half marathon weekends were coming back to Disneyland and that we should try and do one of them. Registering was a chore for us as you have to sit on the computer for hours in a queue to see if you were one of the lucky ones to get in. They aren't cheap either! On race weekend, you have to attend the Disney Expo the day before to pick up your bib and shirt. They have an official merchandise area that you can pick up addition stuff for the run. I signed up for the 5K run and was a little disappointed to find out that it is considered a "fun run" and not timed. After dropping a couple hundred dollars on additional merchandise, we crashed early to get ready for the run. Race time is early (5am) because they have to clear everything out before the park opens. Despite being how early and cold it was, I had a fun time. For the 5K, majority of the runners were more about taking photos with characters than actually running. I am pretty competitive and ran almost the whole time despite all the walkers that I had to dodge. I did enjoy seeing all the costumes that people were wearing. We started off in front of the Sleeping Beaty castle in Disneyland and ended up in California Adventure to finish the run. The medals that they give you are pretty cool and you are given snacks and drinks after the run. If I do one of these again, I will probably do one of the longer runs that are timed. But overall, I enjoyed being able to partake in Disneyland's first runDisney event in years.

How awesome to have been a part of this inaugural event celebrating such an epic franchise. It's really expensive but it sure was a lot of fun. Initially I was planning to take the Rebel Challenge (10k+half marathon) up until I saw it was $330 (without processing fees). I was in shock that this challenge was an extra $21 if you take the price of the 10k plus half marathon. I guess that's the price to pay for an extra shirt and medal. By the time I thought "eff it, it's only one time", the challenge had sold out so I just signed up for the half. At the expo, the bib pickup is underground then you walk back up to ground level to get your shirt and then on to the vendors. I parked at the hotel parking and they give you 30 minutes free but they aren't strict about it. Come race day, there were many runners with cool and creative costumes. Inside the park, the photo op line for Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker was efficient but they didn't use the same process for Chewbacca. I was bummed that I didn't get to take a photo with him because the 16-minute pacer was already passing. (If you fall behind her, you may get picked up.) Had to do my research on who this group of people were outside of the Disney grounds, 501st Legion, in full costume, ready for photo ops. I was so happy to see them, my spirits were lifted and made up for the missed photo ops with the characters in the park. Their costumes were amazing! For those driving in on race day, you're subjected to the $17 parking fee at the Mickey & Friends structure. If you so happen to be interested in any of the Disney runs, you must know that they tend to sell out on the first day of registration. I am a sucker and will be running the half a second time hoping that the 501st Legion will be there again.

There is also the kids races and the yoga session! Each distance does receive it's own themed medal! Bib pick-up was at the Health and Fitness Expo at the Disneyland Hotel. You could pick up the bib, pre purchased merchandise, and shop at the expo hall between September 4-6. I ended up buying [2] pairs of Disneyland Halloween themed brook shoes and several Halloween runDisney shirts/pins! Logistics: On the race day for the 5k, I arrived around 4:15 at the Mickey & Friends parking structure. From there, I went through the security check. The 5k started inside Disneyland. There are a variety of different corals for the races. I started in the last corral, but luckily, I was able to get two different character pictures in the race! The weather was perfect too! It was around 65 for race morning. The race started at 5:00 A.M, but by the time I started at my corral, I didn't pass the start line until 5:25 A.M. The 5k went through both Disneyland and California Adventure theme park. The race ended towards Goofy's Fly school in DCA. The race was amazing. It was all decorated for Halloween. Before you started the race, there was a pre-show, lights, and some fireworks! It was such a amazing time!
