I'm a sucker for spicy food and this food was spiiicy. I ate one of their cuban sandwiches and the plate of chicken with rice, which came with some tortillas and sales..with avocado! I just stuffed everything in the tortilla and ate as a fajita. The green sauce is good (like sofrito). The meat in the Cuban sandwich is like the pernil we eat in Puerto Rico! That is hard to find. My kids also had some chicken tostadas. Yum! I tasted everything and everything was delicious...even the coffee. I also took home some of their cakes: cupcakes (a bit dry), tres leches (creamy goodness), and random sweet bread (hadn't tasted anything like it)... Their breakfast looked soo good too. One of my least favorite things about any establishment is arbitrary pricing. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a roll. The posted price is $3.50. One man told the other to charge me $4. I pointed out the signage and they both nodded and said ok. Then the man with the card charged me $3.75. I asked why and he said taxes. Then he said he had to charge me for using the card. I haven't eaten the sandwich yet, but honestly it doesn't matter how good or bad it is. If I can't trust a place, I don't want to have anything to do with it. read more

Went here on a break from driving course (I let me California license expire for too long because who drives in NYC?). So, unfortunately, the State of New York requires me to take a 5-hour driving course to get my NY driver's license. The driving school where I took the course was across the street from Angel Bakery. When I asked the school owner if there was a place nearby he would recommend for Mexican food, he said, "Yes, across the street at Angel Baker." I said, "Really? Is it any good?" He said, "It's the best." Curious but doubting, I went to the "bakery" and saw that is was set-up like a diner with seats at the counter and booths to sit in. Our break was 10 minutes long. In that 10 minutes, I managed to get a freshly-cooked (and large!) chicken quesadilla that was delicious. The portion size was enough for me to be full that night and stuffed the next day and they did not scrimp on the amount of chicken that they stuffed it with. The service was friendly, accommodating and warm. Also, they must get the "driving school crowd" every Wednesday because they were thoroughly prepared to give me the doggie bag that I requested for my meal 3 minutes after I started eating it. It's been years since I've been to Sunset Park but I would make a special trip back to Sunset Park just to eat here. (And, hey, maybe next time I'll even get to try the baked goods at this "bakery"!) read more

This is for the tres leches cake alone as this is the only thing I've eaten here. Moist, sweet, amazing! I'm not Latino and my tres leche portfolio is not that serious (maybe 5 different places), but this is the best tree leches cake I've had. However, as I was deciding to go to Angels today, in my conversation with fellow Yelper Mike H., I was persuaded to try Nuevo Yayo which he claims holds the tres leches crown. This little Mexican bakery/diner is awesome. Look beyond the cakes and cookies and order some good hot food! I'm obsessed with the chilaquiles at breakfast.
