Gluten free bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese, lettuce, and bacon
    Anna S.

When in NYC, a bagel is not a want but a need. Being gluten free, I was on the hunt for a GF bagel while in Brooklyn. This spot came up on Yelp. It's small inside and you order through a tablet - very minimal interaction with staff. I got a gluten free everything bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese, bacon, and lettuce. However, the bagel that initially was given to me had no cream cheese, slices of tomato, and did not appear to be gluten free. I took it back to the staff to let them know of the error and double checked to make sure the bagel was gluten free. It wasn't, it was actually whole wheat. Okay, definitely not the same thing. There appeared to be a language barrier between myself and the person making the orders. Although he was very friendly, it was clear to see how something like tomato cream cheese could be confused for just "tomato" and how "gluten free" could get lost in translation, too. The bagel was remade properly and was just OK. I was surprised at how little cream cheese was on the bagel since NYC is known for really slabbing on copious amounts of schmear. That's what makes a NYC bagel so great. Although it's clear effort was put in on behalf of the staff, I wouldn't return here.

"Ask the angels who they're calling, Go ask the angels if they're calling to thee" (Patti Smith) There are plenty of human angels in our world. Some of them even own and operate a bagel shop. Since April 2022, Angels Cafe not only opened for business, but also opened its doors to serve the Williamsburg community. They donate 40% of their profits to feed the hungry and sell $10 "Breakfast Blessing Bags" so customers can buy a bagel sandwich and coffee for those in need. How fantastic is that? The store is quite small, with no tables, chairs or booths -just a few benches along two walls at the front of the store. And when you want to order, you won't be talking to anyone, but you'll be punching in your selection and payment at one of three kiosks by the service counter. I ordered a lightly toasted Whole Wheat Everything bagel with jalapeno cream cheese and a coffee and loved my breakfast. The bagel was perfect and the generous spread of green tinted cream cheese had plenty of Jalapeno pieces and a definite "zip" to it. The coffee was strong and dark and delicious. But we did have a glitch after ordering one with sweetener and one without. The attendant brought them to us and said, "I don't know which is which". Ouch!! Otherwise, well done, Angels Café.

Great tasting bagels! Great wait time, limited seating options but great none the less!

Fast service, reasonably priced, with a great mission statement. It's a small cafe that uses kiosks to order and it's very user friendly to navigate customizations. The bagels itself are not the greatest tasting in my opinion (I found them quite dense but I enjoyed the cream cheese and filling in my Red Hook sandwich). I do appreciate the variety of specialty sandwiches and combinations like their 2 for 1 deals. Overall not bad but not great either.

Liked the fully self ordering process that made ordering very easy. But the bagel was not toasted I think at all--notwithstanding I ordered it toasted. Hot sauce was like a dollar extra lol Got the egg and cheese with light cream cheese. Yummy but way too dense for me.

YUUUUMY. The sandos were great, the employees were kind AND they give 40% of their profits to a non profit organization. Kind of hard not to want to support them! Order from the counter and everything is super customizable!

Tastes very artificial and cheap, and made our stomachs hurt. iPads took my order and the bagels were a bit small. The egg taste like ready-to-go patties and the cheese is equivalent to craft slices.

Eat good, do good! Angels Cafe is super cool as they're a mission-driven shop where 40% of the profits go to North Brooklyn Angels to fight food insecurity in the community. They also have a program where you can purchase a meal for someone in need. What we got: - The Lox (Cream cheese, lox, capers, spring mix) Final Thoughts: Love the mission of the shop and they have an extensive menu including vegan and gluten-free options in addition to the classics. Depending on what you get, one of the specialty sandwiches may run you $15-20 so it can get pricey. The shop is also busy so be prepared to wait if you're a walk in during peak hours.

Cute little store with solid bagels. One of the main draws is this place is that it's all organic and has vegan options including cream cheeses. This is a small store with option to order on tablets at the front counter. It's nice because you can specify degree of toasting and other characteristics. You can also customize by adding any of the ingredients they offer on the bagels. I tried the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and it was very good. Up to NYC standards of bagels. Certainly a place to try one morning! I need to edit the review for the best part: this is a mission driven business- some of their profits go to fighting food insecurity. This is the type of business we should all support to create a better world! Thanks for modeling good business ethics!

What a cute little space! I loved the ordering process as it allowed minimal contact with the staff (although they were eager to answer any questions). The cold brew with oat milk was incredible and probably the best coffee I had my entire stay. My bagel was wonderful and perfect for a long day before visiting Manhattan. Check this place out!

    Tuna bagel

This was my first time trying Angels Cafe, and I got a whole wheat everything bagel with tuna, tomato and lettuce. The bagel itself was pretty good, but didn't taste super fresh. There was additional mayonnaise added to the bagel which I wish I had known and would have asked for without. The tuna salad was the best part. This place has pretty good sandwich options and is easy to order online. There were some good deals (like 2 for the price of 1) that maybe I'd take up in the future, but overall it was just ok.

New-ish bagel spot I went to instead of standing on line down the street at the one on Bedford. The cafe is small and clean with spots to sit outside and eat or sit on a bench inside and wait. The ordering is on computer systems and is relatively quick. The staff is extremely kind! I personally don't like massive amounts of cream cheese on my bagel so this was perfect for me but if you do maybe ask for extra. Next time I'm back I want to try the fresh juices and one of their Brooklyn style bagels. $8.99 for Brooklyn styles and $3.99 for bagels with cream cheese.

It pains me to give this newer spot only 2 stars due to their awesome mission and donation setup but they gotta step up their vegan cream cheese game. I ordered a whole wheat bagel with plain vegan cream cheese, and while the bagel wasn't bad, it's tough a tough market to compete in so I wouldn't call it top tier. The cream cheese likely wasn't tofu based like all the others in the city since it was almost watery and didn't have much integrity to it. I didn't try one of their many signature vegan sandwiches so I'm sure that's where they shine. Prices aren't bad and it's cute and simple inside with an easy iPad ordering system which I appreciated. I may come back to get a bagel sandwich if I'm in the area, but can't recommend a regular bagel and vegan cream cheese combo.

Can't follow simple instructions. Instead of veggie cream cheese put some weird inedible slop in it. Absolutely disgusting.

We wanted to try something different after having explored so many of the typical places in Manhattan and Shelsky's came highly recommended While I was expecting a long wait on a Saturday mid-morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the establishment with only a few in line before us. Now, I was desperately seeking a very simple belly lox with schmear, but much to my dismay, they didn't have any more belly lox. I was heartbroken and had to figure out a plan B While I pondered, the family quickly ordered a Peter Shelsky, a Great Gatsby, and a Fancy Pants. I crumbled in my panic and jumped in with another Peter Shelsky. We also tried a small amount of whitefish salad and a beet/thyme salad The service was quick and we were able to grab two of the three small tables at the front to enjoy our fare. Soon we were digging in and from the immediate silence, I could tell everyone was enjoying their choices. The bagels were on the smaller side, denser with a firm crust. We did enjoy the bagels, but I could see how someone not familiar with this style may find them too "cardboard-y" I have to say, the pickled herring on the Peter Shelsky was fantastic, but was way too overpowering for the nova and sable. I actually regretted my choice and would order something more sunken next time. (Or get to the store earlier to beat the rush for the darn belly lox!) The beet salad was quite a nice balance to for the bagels adding a bit of brightness. The whitefish salad was solid - a hint of smoke and a creamy puree. Some who prefer a chunkier whitefish salad might find this less than satisfactory, but the flavors were great A cure store, friendly and patient staff, a great first exposure to Brooklyn for the boys. We'll be back (and we want belly lox!!)
