When in NYC, a bagel is not a want but a need. Being gluten free, I was on the hunt for a GF bagel while in Brooklyn. This spot came up on Yelp. It's small inside and you order through a tablet - very minimal interaction with staff. I got a gluten free everything bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese, bacon, and lettuce. However, the bagel that initially was given to me had no cream cheese, slices of tomato, and did not appear to be gluten free. I took it back to the staff to let them know of the error and double checked to make sure the bagel was gluten free. It wasn't, it was actually whole wheat. Okay, definitely not the same thing. There appeared to be a language barrier between myself and the person making the orders. Although he was very friendly, it was clear to see how something like tomato cream cheese could be confused for just "tomato" and how "gluten free" could get lost in translation, too. The bagel was remade properly and was just OK. I was surprised at how little cream cheese was on the bagel since NYC is known for really slabbing on copious amounts of schmear. That's what makes a NYC bagel so great. Although it's clear effort was put in on behalf of the staff, I wouldn't return here. read more

Since April 2022, Angels Cafe not only opened for business, but also opened its doors to serve the Williamsburg community. They donate 40% of their profits to feed the hungry and sell $10 "Breakfast Blessing Bags" so customers can buy a bagel sandwich and coffee for those in need. How fantastic is that? The store is quite small, with no tables, chairs or booths -just a few benches along two walls at the front of the store. And when you want to order, you won't be talking to anyone, but you'll be punching in your selection and payment at one of three kiosks by the service counter. I ordered a lightly toasted Whole Wheat Everything bagel with jalapeno cream cheese and a coffee and loved my breakfast. The bagel was perfect and the generous spread of green tinted cream cheese had plenty of Jalapeno pieces and a definite "zip" to it. The coffee was strong and dark and delicious. But we did have a glitch after ordering one with sweetener and one without. The attendant brought them to us and said, "I don't know which is which". Ouch!! Fast service, reasonably priced, with a great mission statement. It's a small cafe that uses kiosks to order and it's very user friendly to navigate customizations. The bagels itself are not the greatest tasting in my opinion (I found them quite dense but I enjoyed the cream cheese and filling in my Red Hook sandwich). I went on a mission to find bagels and found Angels Cafe in Williamsburg, a to-go spot whose bagels are massive and delicious. I put in my order on the touchscreen, and just before I swiped my card, a helpful employee came rushing around the counter asking me if I had entered the promo code for happy hour. Seeing that I had not (apparently there was a little plastic sign that had been turned around), he entered it for me--a 50% off coupon! My six bagels were $6. All because I happened to come in between (I believe) 3-5PM. Amazing. The bagels were huge, fresh, and had a great chew. The everything bagels are completely covered in seasoning. They also donate 40% of their profits to North Brooklyn Angels to help fight hunger in the community and, twice a week, hold an event where you can buy breakfast for someone else. Cute little store with solid bagels. One of the main draws is this place is that it's all organic and has vegan options including cream cheeses. This is a small store with option to order on tablets at the front counter. It's nice because you can specify degree of toasting and other characteristics. You can also customize by adding any of the ingredients they offer on the bagels. I tried the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and it was very good. Up to NYC standards of bagels. Certainly a place to try one morning! I need to edit the review for the best part: this is a mission driven business- some of their profits go to fighting food insecurity. I had a great experience here (twice). The first time I came, I ordered to cortados to go and brought them home. Delicious!. The second time was today when I ordered lunch. I bought the Brooklyn bagel on whole week everything. Your ingredients were fresh as claimed, the service was prompt and friendly, the ordering the super easy because it was digital. When I stumbled, they probably came and helped me finish the order. The bagel itself was very good, probably not the best you could get, but a top quality bagel. I had a whole wheat everything with my sandwich. The whole combination was delicious and I would definitely be back! The 40% donation thing did not sway my decision to come here, but I think it's a noble cause, and I hope they make this a successful location so they can further help for those who need it. What a cute little space! I loved the ordering process as it allowed minimal contact with the staff (although they were eager to answer any questions). New-ish bagel spot I went to instead of standing on line down the street at the one on Bedford. The cafe is small and clean with spots to sit outside and eat or sit on a bench inside and wait. The ordering is on computer systems and is relatively quick. The staff is extremely kind! I personally don't like massive amounts of cream cheese on my bagel so this was perfect for me but if you do maybe ask for extra. It pains me to give this newer spot only 2 stars due to their awesome mission and donation setup but they gotta step up their vegan cream cheese game. I ordered a whole wheat bagel with plain vegan cream cheese, and while the bagel wasn't bad, it's tough a tough market to compete in so I wouldn't call it top tier. The cream cheese likely wasn't tofu based like all the others in the city since it was almost watery and didn't have much integrity to it. I didn't try one of their many signature vegan sandwiches so I'm sure that's where they shine. Prices aren't bad and it's cute and simple inside with an easy iPad ordering system which I appreciated. The Williamsburg is simple, but delicious, containing avocado, cucumber, hummus, and tomato. The avocado was freshly sliced and the hummus was flavorful. The crunch of the cucumber and tomato was a nice contrast to the chewy bagel. And of course, the main attraction - the bagel itself - was an improvement over a bunch of the other shops in the area. On my way to Physical therapy today I peeked into the window at angels cafe and kept walking, then paused and went back in. Something about the vibe sucked me in and I'm sure glad I did. The 2 employees were so down to earth, kind, and passionate about where they were working. I got an everything bagel with the freshest jalapeño cream cheese. Everything was delicious and fresh. I also sampled some honey ginger tea, so delicious and their special owner made brand of this special power berry juice. It was really interesting and just what in needed to feel hydrated on a hot day. The rest of my day was increased in positivity due to my interaction with these fine humans and being nourished with great food and drink. Thank you, I will return again soon! read more

OMG! I'm a born and raised New Yorker so when I tell you this is the best bagel I've ever had, I mean THIS IS THE BEST BAGEL I'VE EVER HAD! Pamela is so sweet and helpful I ordered through the kiosk machine and I chose to have my bagel toasted, I honestly guess I should've just chosen extra toasted so fundamentally this was my fault, but she was able to help my wife and I, remade our bagels and even gave us a delicious red velvet muffin. This tiny little cafe should hardly invoke angels. They are basically taking crazy and totally unnecessary amounts of $$ from their customers. I was charged literally $27 on uber eats for one small Gluten free egg and cheese & ham bagel. Ok I get that an extra charge for GF bagel is fair but the original price was $20. I thought I was going to receive the best egg and cheese bagel of my life. Sadly the sandwich was like any other deli bagel sandwich. So my assessment is that they charge double for their online delivery orders. And indeed, I just looked at their in-store menu and the bagel sandwiches are on average $9. I don't know who these people think they are than they can take advantage of paying customers in this way. They should be ashamed of themselves and shame on me for buying into it once...but never again. Terrible. read more

First day in Brooklyn visiting our daughter and son-in-law. We found Angels Cafe on Yelp and it got great reviews. We went a half mile out of our way to grab a somewhat late lunch there (2:30 or 2:45) only to find the door locked. An employee came out and told us that they were closed. Hours on Yelp don't indicate that it's closed in the middle of the day. The hours on the sign also say that it's open all afternoon (until 5:00.) If a business changes its hours, it should be responsible enough to change the information on a website, or Yelp, or on the actual door of the business. read more

I was impressed to see the customization options for your bagel, however, what on earth is the point if they're just going to ignore what you select. If you want to go into a robot environment made specifically for just to go orders than go ahead. This place is a grub hub HUB. I walked in and you place your order on the iPad. Nobody says Good Morning or "place the order on the iPad". It's as if you don't exist. I placed a simple coffee order and they were all packing grub hub orders. I sat in the restaurant for almost 10 minutes and not once did someone come and try to accommodate me or give me my coffee. They were all packing to go orders that weren't even there yet not even trying to help someone who was there in person and just ordered a small coffee. I was also the only person in the store. Full, dense, excellent flavor and texture. There are also creative and tasty options for toppings. I ordered the ham, avocado, and mustard bagel the first day, and came back the second day for a plain bagel with cream cheese. Neither disappointed.
