"This cat would do best being placed in a home with an aggressive cat or a dog" the words of Elizabeth Talamantez regarding a warm and loving cat who she refused to let me adopt because I owned a cat. The mission of Angels with Paws is great, but their "leadership" needs re-evaluation. Specially, Elizabeth Talamantez, as she is cruel and abuses the shelter's mission by trying to play God. I went to the shelter and immediately fell in love with one of their cats. The cat also took well to me. After reading the listing and visiting with the volunteer who observed how the cat and I interacted, there was no reason to believe this cat would not do well in my home with another cat. The listing never mentioned a home with existing cats being an issue, the social media post even encouraged a proper introduction with other pets in their new home, and when talking with the volunteer there was no mention of other cats being problematic. I submit my application and when I followed up, I was shocked to hear the "rationale" or lack of logic rather as to why I was being denied thr opportunity to save this cat. Elizabeth informed me that she felt it was best this friendly and affectionate cat "would do best being placed in a home with an aggressive cat or a dog" . What sick monster would subject a poor animal to an environment where they are being bullied by an aggressive cat or potentially terrified of a dog and not to mention this cat had no known history of being around dogs? Elizabeth Talamantez is not an animal advocate. She's a mentally disturbed individual who enjoys playing God by subjecting innocent animals to poorly placed homes. My family and I have consistently donated company matched donations and cat food throughout the years because we believe in the shelters mission, but we had no idea how disturbed the "leadership" is. For anyone reading this, I highly encourage you to consider donating elsewhere because your donations likely aren't being managed in a way that aligns with what the shelter claims. It's unfortunate how people will take advantage of innocent beings to fulfill their sick and twisted fantasies, while claiming to be a cat advocate. read more

I got Lady from here a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't be happier! She is a sweet and loving cat that adjusted great! Today was her first visit to the groomer and they said she did amazing! Took her to the vet a week ago and she did amazing there with a clean bill of health! Extremely happy with the cat I adopted here! When it comes to the rescue they where super sweet and worked with me to make sure I could take Lady home that day! I highly respect Angels with Paws and their adoption requirements. Adopting a cat as a pet is a big responsibility and keeping them indoors is best for them. All shelters/rescues have that requirement, unless you are adopting what they call a "barn cat", one that prefers to be outside as long as they still have adequate food, water, and shelter. When we have adopted a cat with a microchip, we have updated the chip info immediately so that we can be contacted on the rare instance that our cat might get outside. That is part of our responsibilities as the new guardians. All rescues/shelters also have a policy, written in the contract, that if we are unable to care for the cat (for whatever reason), the cat will be returned to the rescue/shelter we adopted from. That is what is best for the cat. I'm very disappointed in the people who are giving bad reviews because they are negligent with their cat. Where their neighbors have agreed the cat is better off with the rescue/shelter, and where someone even took it to court, but the judge agreed that the cat was better off with the rescue/shelter. People like this have no business adopting a cat, since they are obviously unwilling to take responsibility for their actions, and inactions. read more

I adopted two kittens from Angels With Paws yesterday, and the experience has been wonderful! This review got LONG, so here's a rundown: Short version: I adopted two healthy kittens, siblings, 12 weeks, both spayed. They are both friendly, love each other, and are litter box trained. Medical records (and more) were provided. Five stars! Long version: I showed up, and was immediately greeted by a very friendly staffer. She took me around and showed me the different kittens that were up for adoption, and (if necessary) explained their care needs. One of the previous reviewers noted that this is a "mostly cage free" shelter, which I have to note isn't true. But, when you're dealing with rescued animals and new kittens, a cage free environment isn't healthy or safe. Some of the kittens are cageless, but only if they've have the appropriate vet exams (free of anything contagious); and even then, these kittens are kept in a private room in the front (kittens, of course, will be adopted first, and fast). Anyway, on to my new kitties! Angels With Paws had "fostered" the kittens I adopted, and so they were already litter box trained. I showed them the litter box one time, and they have used it faithfully - not one accident, even though they're still getting used to their new home. Same for clawing... I did not have a scratch post ready for them when I got them home, so there were a few claws on the carpet. But, when I bought one the next day (have one ready - I should have), they went right to it. It took these kittens a grand total of about 5 hours to get used to me - laying in my lap, purring, everything... they were clearly loved while at Angels With Paws and with their foster family, and seem to be very well adjusted, healthy kittens. Finally, after I adopted the kittens, staffers at Angels With Paws gave me a bag of the kitten food they were currently eating so there wouldn't be any digestive upset (I could mix it in to what I'll be feeding them), some toys, a cat carrier for $5, a list of vets who will do the FIRST EXAM FREE, and their medical needs. All shots but rabies had been given, and they'd both been spayed. If you're a responsible, kind, pet-adorer, come to Angels With Paws - there are a TON of great cats waiting for you!!! read more

We just received a verdict on a replevins case I've filed to get it cat back from AWP. AWP proudly stated they have NO obligation to contact a known owner of an animal brought to their shelter. If your cat accidentally gets out and gets brought to AWP they will NOT contact you or give the cat back!!! Do not adopt from here if you think your cat might possibly get out of your house!! Even one time! This shelter received our family cat while we were on vacation. He is microchipped and they did not contact us. They claim the cat is their property now and have him up for adoption. I have video footage of them blatantly disregarding the contract that I signed. read more

My family have been interest in adding a additional fur baby to our home. I did some research and found about Angels with Paws in Lakewood. Location was not hard to find. Was taken back though how tiny this building was. The back of it was a complete mess, with garbage and cat carriers piled in the back. That should have been a huge red flag for me. Went in and seen two women in front one blonde and one brunette. Both of which were eating at the front desk, where everyone could see and smell their food. The blonde was explaining to me about which rooms we were allowed in. She looked like she was high on marijuana she had such a hard time keeping her eyes open. Was talking very slowly, all meanwhile she was chewing her food. This is the face of the facility why have someone like this representing this place. We explored a total of 3 rooms. Each room crammed a good 4-7 cats. So heart breaking the conditions these cats were in. The rooms reeked of feces and urine. Their litter boxes were clearly not cleaned out. The cats would share 2 bowls of food with a additional bowl for water, but no water. There was a big orange cat who was clearly over weight, going up for adoption. It was placed in a room with at least 4 other cats, this obese cat had access to food around the clock. A cat like that should be monitored more properly when it comes down to its diet. What I feel more for is these cats. With such crappy staff members running this place, it's devastating that the state has still allowed this facility to be open given the conditions. They are only opened so many hours a day if they really cared for these animals they would tell their employees to arrive at least 1 to 2 hours early just to clean! All in all would never come back. read more

We just tried to adopt a cat that we fell in love with here and after filling out an application we never heard back. So we went in a week later and they told us they didn't think that they could adopt out to us because we live in an RV but they were really wishy-washy about how the rules work and said they needed to check with "the board" and would call us with an answer. We never heard back from them, so we had to call them again, but the workers didn't seem to know what they were talking about so I requested to speak to somebody on the board and never heard from anyone. I called again and was told someone would call me the next day. They did and they left a voicemail saying not only can they not adopt to someone in an RV (because we don't have a "permanent" address even though they rent to people in apartments and we are at a long-term RV park) but they also only adopt out to Colorado residents, which we were never told about or we wouldn't have even looked at their cats. I think the RV rule is discriminatory against those who live in RVs but maybe if they hadn't strung us along for weeks and continuously ignored us, then it wouldn't have been such a bad experience. The cat we fell in love with is 14 y/o and we wanted to give her a loving home- when we last saw her she was so sick she was mouth-breathing. I hope they treat her right to get her healed and I hope she finds a good home despite AWP's discriminatory policies and terrible communication skills. read more

Wonderful people here. We thought we were going to have to give up our cat before our move and they were completely helpful and understanding. Ultimately, we didn't have to (phew), but the service these people provide is priceless. They are also a nonprofit, so you can get a tax deduction for any donations you make. Angels with Paws is a small and mostly cage free, with the exception of grouchy cats that refuse to get along in groups, cat shelter in Lakewood. It is open for visiting every day between 1 PM and 6 PM, and is, of course, a non-profit organization. I will often run some cat food or blankets over when I see a good sale, because I appreciate the way Angels With Paws treats their kitties. They all seem very happy, with toys, cat condos, and multiple litterboxes in each cat group. Adopters are screened and chosen carefully, and they operate a great foster care program to help younger kitties grow up in a good environment before being adopted out. If you're catless (which is a very sad way to be) and seeking to remedy that situation, I highly recommend a trip to Lakewood to see Angels With Paws- you'll be impressed. read more

We received a call last Monday morning from Angels with Paws saying someone had turned our cat Gary in to their shelter! Apparently he was only 3 blocks from our house and living under someone's home. He was missing for 7 weeks total, and still had his collar on when the person found him. He was skinny, dehydrated and a little banged up, but other than that, he was fine and he never lost his personality. Angels with Paws had kept our flyer on file and recognized Gary (our cat) as soon as his rescuer brought him into them. Angels with Paws does good work. Important work. Their mission is to unite unclaimed cats with homes that will ensure each cat is placed in the best possible situation. I'm not sharing my experience with this organization to dispute that fact. I'm sharing my story because I feel that my family's experience with this organization was not pleasant and did not reflect the shelter's mission and values. We found our cat Carlos at the shelter after a desperate two week search for him. We found him too late. He had been adopted at 5pm and we found his picture on the website at midnight. Carlos' picture was on the adoption page under the name Saturn. The shelter said he was 6 years old. Although it was after midnight when I finally found him, I left a tearful message on the organization's answering machine telling them that "Saturn" was our cat Carlos. I told them my husband would be by to get Carlos and bring him home as soon as they opened the next day. Scott, my husband arrived at the shelter when they opened. He told the staff that he was the husband from the message left in the middle of the night, and he was here to retrieve our cat and bring him home. The volunteers seemed confused and told Scott they weren't aware of any messages. They told him "Saturn" had been adopted yesterday at 5pm. Not knowing the procedure to fix the situation, my husband asked the volunteers what would happen next. Would they call the new adopted owner and explain the situation? Surely he argued that the owner who had brought Carlos into their home less than 24 hours ago would be sympathetic to the situation. They told him they weren't sure because this had never happened before. The president of Angels with Paws, Diana, was summoned.  It was clear she had her mind made up when she arrived, even though, supposedly, this had never happened at the shelter before. She immediately told Scott that she would not be calling the new adoptive owner and explaining the situation. Scott argued that this person may be fully prepared to bring Carlos back given the circumstances. This person unknowingly taking Carlos from his home and family of eleven years had the right to be made aware of what was going on. They may feel differently about adopting this particular cat, given the fact he is well loved and part of someone's family. President Dianna was rude and dismissive to Scott's argument to call the person who had adopted him a few hours ago and explain the situation. She berated us, questioning how hard we had looked for Carlos, since he had been at the shelter for almost two weeks. She told my patient husband to leave or she'd call the police. After emailing the board to make a ruling on the case, she promised to contact us with the verdict. The next day Dianna left an abrasive message saying the board had voted unanimously to not solve this issue because Carlos had been at the shelter for over five days, therefore according to Colorado law he belonged to the shelter and not to our family. I understand laws are in place for good reason, but shouldn't each case still be treated with some flexible interpretation and maybe a little empathy? What kills me is that this shelter doesn't seem to be following its own mission. I'm sure the person who adopted Carlos is decent and Carlos will be well taken care of. But Carlos isn't an abandoned cat without a home.  He already has a home and a family he belongs with. Because Carlos has never gone missing before, it took me some time to track him down. And if I had simply found him a few hours before I did, Carlos would be home with us now. At this point I've lost all hope in Carlos actually being returned to our family. This sad reality is hard to stomach. I will, however, remain absolutely convinced that Angels with Paws failed to do the right thing for Carlos, isn't that the whole point? read more

What is up with this place? I felt the same strangeness that others have felt, much like you were invading their space for visiting and being interested in adopting one of their cats. I still donate to them, because I really feel sorry for these cats. I see that many years ago this place was something special, but since 2014 or so, it's gone to shit. Did ownership or management change since then? It's perplexing that people who care so much about cats are not willing to work with people to get them adopted. About six months ago I was interested in adopting one of the special needs cats called Mayla. I saw her on the webpage, stopped by to meet her and had an unwavering connection to her immediately. It was same connection I had with my special needs cat that passed last year. The poor thing had no back leg control and could only scoot around. I thought I was crazy to adopt her, but I knew I could make it work if she got along with my other two cats. I even designed a ramp for her to get up and down the stairs, if needed. I have a lot of experience with cats of this nature. I asked if I could foster her to see if she would get along with my other two. They told me it was too time-consuming for them to allow me to do this. I emailed them over and over again trying to find someone to work this out with me. I offered to pay them a large donation if it did not work out. When I called to try to talk to somebody about her, they just said that she was not in an adoptable condition right now. I was even considering adopting both cats that had no back leg movement. My heart breaks because I had to give up and I don't even know if she still lives. There's not many people that are willing to adopt a cat with this level of disability and has the means and the knowledge to take care of them. It's just so sad. read more

These people have a real heart for kitties. They take very good care of them. They make sure that their health problems are being taken care of. I just adopted a kitty from them Friday. She had been spayed seven days before. She had all her shots and was chipped. They were so nice. Of course I had to fill out adoption papers which were very strict, but we took care of our kitties by their rules anyway. So we were very comfortable adopting our Cali. Absolutely the most ridiculous "cat rescue" I've ever dealt with. I went in on a Saturday after falling in love with a cat named Cilantro. The girl working there had told me I needed to fill out an application and within 24hrs, I would have an approved or denied. No cal Sunday, no call Monday, no call Tuesday. I finally call in myself on Wednesday so see what the hell was up. The woman who answered the phone immediately tells me I was denied. I asked why (because who tf is denied to adopt a cat?) and she proceeded to tell me she didn't know and couldn't find my application. I countered back with "how are you telling me I'm denied then?" All she said was that another coworker next to her said so, did they have my application in front of them? NO. As they both scramble to find my application, she then tells me that she'll need to call me back because they can't locate my application. Complete bullshit. I get a call back as they finally found my application and she lets me know I was denied because I don't have a vet and they require all their cats be indoor only. I just moved to town y'all and I explained that initially when I was there Saturday. Then I ask, how is it that they require I do something with the cat if I've adopted her already, would they do monthly check ins? She replies "No, it's just what we require, it's in our website." These are ANIMALS people, if my ANIMAL does not wish to stay inside, who am I to tell them no? Get your shit together people, you're doing a horrible job read more

We recently dropped off some kitchen supplies and other such items for their household store that the sales help offset rescue expenses. It is a small building and the cats are in rooms paired up with several other cats. The space was clean and the cats were well taken care of. We currently have allowed ourselves to grace the presence of our two cats at their..I mean.. our home but when we are ready for another cat, I would definitely come here. read more

Staff will tell you when you check animal still not ready but it could be and they are too lazy to check up on the cat. happened to us, checked for 3 weeks to find out kitten was ready but they either had it saved or too lazy to check. had to go it find out it had been cleared and already adopted. Went to adopt a cat with my friend and saw this beautiful cat named Lily. My friend fell in love with Lily and want to take her home immediately. So when we went to the front counter the the lady at the front counter I told us that we couldn't adopt the cat today but we could tomorrow and that we couldn't fill out an application we have to wait until tomorrow so we left without Lily. Next day I went and picked up my friend she is in a wheel chair so it took us a second to get there . We get there and find out that another couple came and filled out a app for Lily but could take her because they had to check with there landlord to see if they could even have a pet so Lily is still setting in her cell and we dont have Lily because of policy this is the biggest disappointment my friend was devastated. To let someone hold on to the pet without even knowing if they could have a pet is poor judgement and letting the cat just sit there and limbo because of people's bad judgment bad business especially when we were ready to take the cat home the day before and we're not able to because of policy I think this is some BS and I'm giving them a bad review read more

I adopted my cat from here recently, and I absolutely love my kitty. The shelter itself is small, lots of small rooms for the cats to hang out in, and relatively clean. Some of the rooms don't have a lot of space once you go inside them, so beware if you're looking to be able to sit anywhere to get to know some of the cats. A couple of the rooms are so small that all you can do is stand in them, definitely not enough room for more than 1 person at a time. Other than that, the adoption process went alright but could've gone a lot better. My application was approved, but they had to call my landlord about having a cat, so my bf had to run home to pay the pet deposit so that the shelter could call the landlord to verify. In addition, that day, we were told that the shelter's credit card machine was broken, so they couldn't do anything but cash, which meant that my bf had to run home to grab some. Came back with a $100 bill, but we were told that they couldn't provide change, so we just donated the difference. We weren't told about needing to have exact change until my bf returned with the $100 bill, so that was really inconvenient. But the shelter sent us home with some bags of kitty treats, info brochures, a ziplock bag of the cat food our cat was eating at the shelter, and a booklet listing vets that were giving free exams for shelter cats. The staff was nice overall, but I can see why some other reviews have mentioned negative things - there was an off-putting air at some moments during the entire experience but nothing deal-breaking, in my opinion. All in all, on the same day we visited for the first time, we adopted and brought home our precious cat, whom we love and has been so amazing, healthy, affectionate and adjusting well to living with us. Despite some of the things I mentioned (which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5), the shelter is good, and you can tell that they really care about their cats and making sure that they go to good homes. They can come off pretty picky with who they approve, and if you answer a question too vaguely on the application, they'll question you or demand a more specific answer. I wouldn't say it's bad; like I said, the shelter really wants good homes for their cats, but it can definitely give off an off-putting air to the whole thing. read more

I'd like to preface this by saying that the cats are well taken care of here and the shelter itself is lovely. This has nothing to do with the adoption process. My reason for giving this one star is the general lack of decency and rudeness that I experienced while volunteering. My work runs a volunteer program and requires us to volunteer 8 working hrs per quarter. This is one of the recommended organizations. I called to find out more about volunteering. I was told by phone to just go ahead and show up. I told her when I would be there and that I would be volunteering for a full 8 hrs that day and she said great, I'll mark you down on the calender. I arrived at 8 am and there was no indication that the place was open and the sign said "Open daily from 1 - 6" I had to call to make sure I had the right place. The woman who let me in advised me that when I arrive I have to go to the back door and ring the door bell. I was not told about this on the phone. She seemed to have no clue that I was coming. I saw the volunteer schedule, and I was not on it. The person I spoke with over the phone did not mark me down as she said she had. I was shown what to do and began working. About two hours into working the woman who let me in asked me to fill out a volunteer application. The app consists of just basic contact info. I was advised that volunteers are only allowed to stay until 1. I was not told this over the phone when I said I would do 8 hrs. I spoke with the manager, who I'd like to add is an exception to this bad review and very nice. She said that it would be fine for me to stay until 4 if I'd like and they would just give me some busy work to do. I stayed until 2 and decided that I would leave and do 2 hrs the following Sunday. I came back Sunday morning with my fiancee who was going to help. I was greeted by a very unfriendly employee. I said that we were here to volunteer. She asked if I had been there before. I said I had and that my fiancee had not. She seemed to stare at me dumb founded and said she could not allow that. She told me that he can not be here and would have to fill out an app. I said 'Thursday they just had me fill it out the day I came in." She said she would call her boss but she was pretty sure that her boss would not allow this. When I came on Thursday they had no idea I was coming, let me in and later realized that I needed to fill out an app. After trying and not getting a hold of her boss she said that he would have to leave, the shelter could not be held liable. I understand this, however I was not given the same treatment at all when I showed up unannounced and the app that I filled out asked only basic questions did not require me to sign any sort of waivers or anything. He offered to fill one out right then (just as I had) but for some reason she would not allow this. I asked if he could just sit in one of the rooms, or the lobby area while I worked and she stated that he would be in the way. There were 4 people in the building including myself. On Thursday there was about 6 volunteers and 4 employees. Yet somehow today a 5th person would be too many. Had I not needed the 2 hours that day I would have left myself just due to the bitchy attitude. He ended up sitting outside in the car while I worked. Which I overheard her complaining about later. Apparently he can not be inside or outside of the shelter. She did not acknowledge me the entire time I was there. I said excuse me several times when passing by and got no response. I cleaned 6 rooms while there. I stayed for 3hrs because there was only 1 other volunteer there. When I was done there was only 1 room left and 2 people were cleaning it. I did not see the need for 3 people to clean 1 room and I had already stayed an hr longer than I said I would with my fiance just sitting outside. I advised her that I was leaving and she looked over at the other women cleaning and rolled her eyes as if I was leaving in the middle of a task. I asked her politely if I could get a signature. She scoffed "well what do i need to sign??" a valid question but the attitude was not needed. I attempted to explain I'm doing this for work which got me another eye roll and a dirty look and that I needed proof that I was here. She seemed very annoyed by this. I handed her the paper and she stared blankly at it and then again with attitude "Well where am I supposed to sign" I pointed out the portion directly in the middle of the page that said "SIGNATURE" in black bold letters. She scribbled a signature shoved it back in my hands and walked away. I would think someone in her position would be more grateful to someone coming to help take care of these cats. If I were not there she would most definitely have more work on her hands. Volunteering should make you feel good, not like you're being a burden. If I ever do volunteer here it will not be when she's working. But I likely will find another organization that appreciates their volunteers more read more

This is a great cat shelter located in Lakewood. I visited them yesterday to donate some stuff which was taking up space in the house. Did you know you can give them aluminum cans to recycle? This is a great option for me because my complex doesn't have recycling and I don't like turning in the cans. Now I can just drop them off by the bin in the back while running errands. They take a host of other things from office supplies to laundry items to the usual pet supplies. They are friendly and it's fun to visit with the cats if you have time. Beware, though, or one of those little angels might make quite the impression on your heart and you'll want to take them home. Take in donations, become a volunteer, or leave with a kitty (or two). My sister recently passed away unexpectedly, and I rescued her cats. Animal control had taken them to the city shelter where they were in danger of being killed. I was able to get them. I have too many of my own cats, so I could not keep them. :( I had to wait about a week to get them into Angels with Paws (they are small and we had to wait until some cats were adopted for an opening) but they were able to take them. I would like to think there comes a time in every persons life where they are called to make decisions based on humanity and compassion. I would like to think this is not outside the realm of people who rescue and adopt out shelter animals for a living. The employees, including board members who should be acting in the best interest of a non-profit business spent resources and time "rescuing" a cat that already had a family. When you adopt from here, you must sign a contract saying your cat will not be an outdoor cat. This is not uncommon in the rescue world. However, what about a cat that escapes from your house and then is keen on trying to do it again? If you plan on supporting this business and you have children who will become attached to your kitty, maybe choose a more deserving shelter. A shelter should support the healthy bond between families and their pets. A human being should BE a human being and help families who love and respect animals and focus their zealous energy on the animals they currently have in cages. As a person with children and a kitten who we adore, I cannot fathom meeting my children in the driveway of their home to tell them that they will not be getting their beloved pet back, that they will not receive an opportunity to say goodbye. One may argue there is a clearly defined line between right and wrong and it's easy to say this cat should not be returned. There is not a hard line when it comes to looking outside of yourself to do the thing that is most right in your heart for a pet and his family. read more

Let me start by saying that this place needs new management. My impression is that these people don't seem to care if their cats get adopted to a good home or not. From the first day that we visited it seemed very surreal. We asked to look at the cats and kittens and they just pointed to the rooms and said go in and look. I expected some kind of interaction with the caretakers but they didn't seem to care, very weird feeling. We then found a kitten we liked and inquired to adopt her. We were told that she was on medication and wouldn't be available for 10 days. That was fine with us. We then saw him put a red star next to her name on the white board, we guessed that it meant that she was going to be on hold for us. I wanted to get started with the adoption process that first day but they declined to do that. That was very curious to us. We then asked if they just wanted our names and phone number and they declined that as well. So, for the next 10 days we would stop by and visit what we thought would be our new family member, the staff there always acted the same way, very indifferent. Meanwhile we proceeded to prepare for her arrival by purchasing over $300.00 worth of cat stuff. Who knew how expensive a cat could be but we didn't care she was going to be a happy cat with us. Fast forward 10 days and today is the day! We were both excited to receive our new friend. I showed up 10 minutes after they opened and inquired to finish adopting our kitten. I was told that there were 3 other applications for her and that the manager would have to come out to talk to me. What happened next was so disappointing. This smallish looking young blond lady (more like immature teenage looking girl) comes out and starts talking in circles about the time and that they open at 1pm and it was 1:17 pm, so on and so on. I knew I was being lied to. She then went on to say that there were other kittens that looked like the one we fell in love with and that I should look at them. It shows you her mentality of the adoption process. She never acknowledged that I had tried to get my application in 10 days ago and how is it that 15 minutes after they opened, on the day she was available someone else had been approved to adopt her. needles to say I will never go back there again and will not recommend anyone to go there. I hope the cats are getting better care than the humans do because they sure are cruel to the humans. read more

I adopted my fur baby from angel's with paws without issue. The staff do care, and even i have witnessed some of the strains and stresses the workers endure, alongside the compassion and understanding by the employees. This is not a job you do because it pays well. This place is a non-profit and I learned that they do far more work beyond the average requirements. People can drop off dog food, donations, anything to help fundraise or to give to those more in need than them. My cat was born in the wall, and fostered til she was grown up. The foster family provided me with a littl ebooklet of my cat's 'growing up' out of her shell. During my visit, i witnessed a very elderly couple return a baby kitten that was just a bit too over-excited for them to handle, and the staff found them a lap cat that was a perfect fit. It was very heartwarming to see. They also helped my fur baby with food choices, and how to check to make sure she's doing good on a daily basis. The facility is painted with cats, and makes it more fun to visit. The outside you can't miss, it may be a bit crowded but it looks like the shelter is trying it's hardest to ensure the cats are taken care of. My baby was vaccinated, spayed, and ready to come to a forever home. read more

went there yesterday (2/17/2018) and the girl at the front desk was rude and miserable. it was dead silent in the facility and she rolled her eyes multiple times at me. she tried to belittle my boyfriend by scoffing at him when he said he wasn't sure if we were ready to take a cat home TODAY. wouldn't let him leave the building with the adoption form so we could go over it at home. very weird experience. there is a very sweet 13 year old cat we saw that we were interested in but the girl was so rude that we felt very uncomfortable in the building and felt like a bother to the girl. read more

I can't say enough good things about this no-kill rescue! As a volunteer, I have learned so much about the shelter and staff over the last couple of years and also see first hand the hard work and love these folks give on a daily basis. Being in rescue is not always easy. One of the best things about AWP is the fact that they go to great lengths to ensure the cats are placed in safe and loving homes. I'm proud to volunteer here, it's really gratifying to be helping them to help so many kitties who would otherwise have no place to go. I went here with my family after falling in love with a kitten we found online. When we got there after a 45 minute drive, we were rudely told we could not even see the kitten because we had a child under age 5 and the kitten was under 6 months old. The tag on the kitten's cage said he was good with kids. The staffer said the kitten has been around young children and was fine. The kitten was 3 months old. If thease people were really trying to find thease animals homes, they would not have a rule as dumb as this one. I will just stick to breeders and private people trying to find homes for their pets. Screw "rescues" and psychotic cat people. Now wonder why so many animals are being put to sleep. People being over protective of animals for no reason are doing more harm then good to the animals. That cat could have came home and had a happy spoiled life in a warm home with a family to love him, but because of the rule he is still sleeping alone in a cold metal cage for who knows how long. read more

I really like this place. Left off one star because I didn't adopt, so I don't know if it's a 5 star experience. I like that they let me see the cat I asked about and didn't try to push a different cat on me. The cats are in little rooms, so I liked that I could interact. I liked that I could go at my own pace. The front desk person was upfront when I asked tough questions about the cat and about their policies. She let me read the questionnaire and adoption agreement, though I wasn't ready to adopt. I changed my mind about the kitty I visited. Would look into other cats there but it's a long way to drive to meet a kitty I might not adopt. read more

Just sad. We were interested in two different cats but were told both times that the cat wasn't ready for adoption so we had to just keep waiting. We finally adopted our cat from here and she was insanely obese we felt so sorry for her because we found out she had been there for so long. Over 12lbs because she had been in there for 9 months and had access to food around the clock! Women at front desk where snarky and rude. When I confronted them about it the reply was ridiculous and trying to put the blame on me. if you're going to treat people I thought why would they want anything to do with you?. Knew what they knew about cats I would guess but could use a serious improvement in their interaction with humans. Place was gross and trash was piled behind the building. read more
