My husband surprised me with private salsa lessons, as a way for us to formally learn the dance together, and so that we could surprise our friends and family with a memorable, sexy first dance at our wedding! I had taken beginner salsa lessons in SF so I was familiar with the steps, but he was new to it, and Angie took us from beginner to intermediate level dancers in just 2 months (albeit with almost twice weekly lessons)! Most important, she kept reminding us that it took a while to feel the rhythm, and that it was essential for me to let my husband lead, and for me to just enjoy the dance and follow. As other Yelpers have shared, she is incredibly patient and encouraging, using analogies to help drill in posture and steps, and praising us warmly when we executed a movement successfully. It was especially helpful that she encouraged us to record video of the dance steps we rehearsed after each session, so that we (or really, I) could review them over the course of the week.
