My first lyra class at SF pole and dance. This is very beginner friendly. And Kissy gotchu, she helped me out of some scary poses.

Do it for the insta! Kissy is the best!!! She understands the shameless need for an insta photo. She's also great about adjusting moves to help you get into a trick if you aren't strong enough. She's great at explaining things to non-athletic people. Also she makes it lighthearted to take the pressure away from being embarrassed of not doing well. If you're a beginner I would definitely recommend. It's been 2 years and I still take her beginner class! I also take mischa for hammock and silks, also highly recommend! I've taken a handful of silks at other gyms and tried out a handful of instructors. It was peer pressure bc I didn't enjoy those. Mischa's class was the first silks class I really enjoyed. Silks can be overwhelming with all the different moves for one pose. Mischa breaks it down very well and helps with perfecting form. Is an amazing workout. Mischa's class didn't make me feel weak like I usually do. She's very encouraging. DO IT!!!

    2nd Lyra class!

Since I last reviewed, I've kinda stopped going. I loved it initially, as my earlier review noted, but the shine came off fast for a few reasons. Firstly, there kept being really overqualified people on the beginner classes. Nothing makes me feel more like a potato than having to share space with incredibly competent people who frankly have no place in a beginner class. I'm not sure why the studio allowed this, but they did and do. Secondly, the membership cost is obscene. You need to be hitting 3+ classes every week to make it worth while, and it's a 3 month minimum commitment. So almost $1k upfront for membership. Which, when crunch offers a similar class at only $73/ mo, seems absurd. They're still one of the best places to do Lyra in the city, but I can't recommend them any more.

This is a space that oozes fun, challenge, connection and creativity with the many artistic/athletic programs it offers. I considered SFP&D my third home considering how much time I spent at this studio rarely getting bored. The best part of being a learner and instructor were the people you came in contact with, the people you developed friendships with and the various outtings outside of the studio that made living in SF colorful and vibrant. SFP&D is by far an amazing place to work, with leaders that I believe to be transparent, fair and incentivizing. One of my top 10 places in SF.

Are the poles rotating or static for intro classes? And which is better to work on?

For intro classes, the poles are usually on static! It's nice to get used to spin early in your pole…

Hi I'm interested in coming to visit. How is parking? Is it metered only, are paid lots near by, or is it free street parking. I didn't know how much time to plan on figuring out where to park or how much i needed to spend on parking if i come a lot.

There's usually free, 2hr street parking! Some metered as well if you get in a bind. I usually try to arrive 10-15 min before class starts to find parking, walk over, get into the building, etc :)

I'm so glad I made that decision, because Addie is awesome!!! She's super nice and really good at teaching! The class I was in had 5 other participants. We first showed proof of vaccination and our ID before filling out the waiver. The lights were dim and the studio itself doesn't have many mirrors. I felt that this promoted confidence because I didn't have to feel self-conscious in the mirror, or worry about how I looked in front of others. Because I'm more cautious, I kept my mask on. I appreciate that there was no pressure to have to take my mask off. Anyway, so we start off with a warmup that focused on flexibility and core strength. Spoiler alert: I lack both, but I did my best! We also learned how to crawl and do some sexy leg work. Then we got to pick a pole and we learned some moves: a spin, how to walk around the pole, and how to uh dance around it? At the end of the class, we learned a routine and had the option of recording ourselves. We even got to try on heels! Uh a little heads up on the heels: your best bet is to size up. I normally wear a 5. The 6 fit me fine, but I might've felt more comfortable wearing a 6.5 or something. I'm really considering taking the 5-6 week series.

VRV3 Studios immediately stood out because of their amazing intro package ($79 for 4 classes or $139 for unlimited classes -- both are to be used within 2 weeks), and it ended up being one of the best decisions I've made. I walked into my first pole class with zero experience and a lot of nerves. Nico, the receptionist, was incredibly welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. He gave me a tour, explained how everything worked, shared helpful tips for my first class, and really helped calm any anxiety I had before stepping into the studio. In just two weeks, I've taken classes with Melanie, Yifan, Freddy, and McKena, and every instructor has been so patient, encouraging, and accommodating. Each class starts with warm-ups and conditioning to help you understand how to engage your muscles safely before learning tricks and poses. Every instructor has their own teaching style, but they all create such a positive and supportive environment. As someone who is naturally shy, I truly appreciate how inclusive and judgment-free this studio is. I always leave class feeling happier, stronger, and more confident than when I walked in. The studio is clean, has changing rooms, a bathroom, yoga mats, water fountains, yoga cubes and cubbies for convenience. If you've been thinking about trying pole but feel intimidated, this is your sign to book a class. I only wish I had started sooner!

I like the new app, because it makes checking-in a breeze. I've been going to classes here for over 3 years now and the stand out thing is the community. Everyone who trains here is amazing and I'm happy to met so many amazing instructors/classmates over the years. My favorite classes are pole, especially Fluid and Flow and L3+ Tricks. The community is super supportive, welcoming, and fun! I especially love Patricia's and Vix's classes! My only gripe is that the classes do not tell you in advance how filled the class is (I.E it could say XX spots out of 10 filled on the app) before you sign up. When classes have 8+ students, I would have preferred to taken a different class. Otherwise, this review would have been a perfect 5/5.

I really like the focus she places on proper form and technique--it's really nice knowing that you're not laying foundation to future injuries when you're learning more advanced moves from her, because you're learning and doing them right. Shelly is super fun and is also an amazingly talented performer. (If you've never seen her do a spatchcock, holy crud.) We'd start the classes with a thorough warmup, including stretches and various climbs, and the we'd move on to different tricks and spins. Shelly works with each of her students and is also very patient and good with breaking down movies so we understand how to progress. When I failed at life with the helicopter spin (sigh :'( ), she had me work on the cradle spin and also on the steps so I could at least get an idea of what it should feel like/what I could practice to eventually get there. (Honestly, I think I was just scared and/or weaksauce, but mark my words: one day!) Her background in dance is also really awesome--we usually get to learn some choreography towards the end of the class (unless we go overboard with wanting to learn tricks on some days ;). She always finds time with us afterward to stretch and some days, we work on oversplits (ow ow ow ;_; but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!). When Shelly found out that I was moving across the country, she told me about a bunch of teachers at different studios where I could continue to learn (provided that I can trek my way up to NY). :] I miss her classes and hope to be back soon!

And how pole + dance offers discounts to extend itself to the community in an effort to be more accessible to folks :) It is a bit pricier than other studios but the quality is amazing. My only "complaint" is that at one of the classes I signed up for, there were more students than there were poles so some of us had to share. I'm not sure if this is typical for auditioning instructor community centric classes, but I found it a little odd as I've never experienced that at any studio class before, and I've specifically taken several of the $10 classes. I'm not sure if it's an over-booking issue, or the intent really is to have people share but I prefer to have my own pole. Perhaps a helpful feature that could be implemented in the app is showing the class capacity that you're signing up for, I.e. "8/10 spots"-- a studio I used to go to had this feature and it greatly helped me decide on classes to sign up for. Overall a beautiful space and I look forward to more classes here!

She has a thorough understanding of the history, the culture, and the artistry. Hip Hop with Mahi - the most energetic ball of fun there is. She's effortless. Drenched with Diamond - another great workout, and a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning. I love to take my girlfriends and get brunch in Union Square afterwards. Also, the Rae Studios Showcase was SO much fun. You get training in how to perform as a group. The adrenaline is intoxicating. There are people who do four per season, is how fun it is. How many opportunities in life are there to perform? Rae Studios makes this accessible to everyone. The world is tough right now. We could all use a little more dance and light in our lives. Check out Rae!

She was great, full of energy and helpful. After one class, I went to a couple more intro classes eventually I purchased the 10 pack package (more bang for your buck) and subsequently moved to an annual membership after about 3 months of consistent classes. Each class and instructor I have taken has been wonderful. The entire staff is knowledgeable, encouraging and willing to offer feedback and assistance. I have taken multiple classes with the convenience of the annual pass. (Ie intro, low flow, twerk, poleography, pole workout, inversion etc). I have nothing but positive feedback about the instructors. Zhara's energy and abilities are awesome! Kelli's intro to pole and inversion class is wonderful. I always feel challenged but encourage that I will continue to progress. Kate's breakdown of the technical details with intro to inversion sessions are amazing. It feels like having a private session. Vickya's exercises in intro to pole particularly looking in the mirror and watching myself has helped me boost my self esteem. Tink's boot camp class has helped me get in better shape. C Michelle's energy and class on twerking has opened my eyes to the art form. Kat's kindness and beautiful choreography in low flow has helped me gain confidence in my own sensuality and body. For someone who never been on a pole 5 months ago and was shy to now being able to climb and starting to learn inversion, this studio has been amazing. So glad I took that first intro class and took a chance in myself. Now I can't get enough!!! I can't say enough positive things about this studio. In a short time I have learned so much and am excited weekly for my pole classes. I have met diverse folks of all backgrounds and it's beautiful to be part of this community.
