Bright, welcoming, and well organized in every aspect. The space is beautiful and welcoming as are the instructors and staff. I was greeted promptly and enthusiasticly and shown where I could change and where my class was. It's not the larger studio, but its well laid out and was accommodating several classes when I went in. I felt comfortable with the manner in which they were handling covid precautions. We all were masked and had to provide proof of vaccination. Some studios I've been to have so many rules and regulations that remembering them and adhering to them proves more difficult than the class itself. Speaking on that my flexibility class with Jacqui was wonderful as was the heel choreography. Jacqui is encouraging and non judgmental in addition to being very knowledgeable. Do it for the insta! Kissy is the best!!! She understands the shameless need for an insta photo. She's also great about adjusting moves to help you get into a trick if you aren't strong enough. She's great at explaining things to non-athletic people. Also she makes it lighthearted to take the pressure away from being embarrassed of not doing well. If you're a beginner I would definitely recommend. It's been 2 years and I still take her beginner class! I also take mischa for hammock and silks, also highly recommend! I've taken a handful of silks at other gyms and tried out a handful of instructors. It was peer pressure bc I didn't enjoy those. Mischa's class was the first silks class I really enjoyed. Silks can be overwhelming with all the different moves for one pose. Mischa breaks it down very well and helps with perfecting form. Is an amazing workout. Mischa's class didn't make me feel weak like I usually do. She's very encouraging. DO IT!!! read more

The community is so amazing - from the front desk managers who are super welcoming, the instructors who are super supportive, and the students who become your own personal cheer team ;) I love taking choreo classes with Mae Mae and Yoko. Different styles, but the same method of making you feel like a bad ass after their classes! For tricks classes, definitely check out Cazza and Os! I am still beaming from my class at SF Pole and Dance last night! I'll keep it short and sweet. This was my second event at SF Pole and Dance, and both times I had attended private parties. Girlfriends, if you are looking for a fun way to spend an evening, then you gotta do a private pole party here. It's a totally safe space, the teachers are super supportive (including Amy and NJ), and you will leave feeling strong, sexy, and powerful. I can't speak for any of the regular classes yet, but I feel like I really want to get into this. We learned the basic climbing technique, a couple of easy spins, and some general moves on the floor that will make your body look super sultry. Not to mention, it's a serious workout. There's a reason why pole dancers are so buffed! If you're shy about your body, or even if you're an exhibitionist, this is a great place to explore. It's been two months since I started at SF Pole & Dance, so I feel like it's time for another review. A few weeks in, I signed up to be an unlimited member, which was one of the best investments I've ever made for myself. From open studio access to endless classes, so worth it. There's a dizzying amount of class offerings, which I appreciate, as someone moving to another state in a few months and unable to find a studio that compares. SFP&D has the kindest, tight-knit community that makes me feel accepted as I grow myself. So many instructors have offered something different to my journey, and I want to give shout-outs to some of them: * Victoria - My first ever pole instructor that lights up the room with her energy and passion for trying new things. * Max - My role model for feeling sexy and confident because it's about feeling comfortable in your own skin. * Candy - The way she breaks down pole moves was a game changer that helped me finally be able to invert consistently. * Os - Just aspirational. He's so talented and has a unique way of both encouraging and challenging his students. * Sammy - Taught my first Pole 2 class and made it approachable so I wasn't pressured to keep up with everyone else. * Alexandria - Her class was the first time in months I felt comfortable free dancing... I'd like to see more free dancing classes! And of course the other instructors are equally amazing. I just haven't taken as many classes with them yet. Someone pointed out to me that this is more of a "competition studio" so fantastic if you're going for that but still valuable if you're not. Initially I walked into SFP&D telling myself I could never do this or that, or try new apparatuses (silks, lyra) but now I've made friends that make it fun to discover together. To those who have been pondering about trying out pole for the first time--JUST DO IT! I had been thinking about it on-and-off for a few months but finally bit the bullet and signed up for my very first pole class at SF Pole + Dance with Noa. I was a bit nervous beforehand as I don't have much upper body strength (so I thought) but ended up having so much fun and feeling incredibly empowered afterwards. We started off with a warm up then moved onto learning basic moves (i.e. flamingo pose, fireman climb, pirouette, pole sit, fan kick). Finally, we combined these newly learned techniques into a simple routine and went over them several times. Noa walked us through each move and was happy to answer any questions we had. The studio was impeccably spacious and clean, with a number of poles spread out and a space for aerial silks and lyra as well. Honestly, I was a a bit of a mess when I arrived because I was running late. Although I arrived in an anxious and sweaty state, the front desk manager and Noa were both incredibly warm, welcoming, patient, and encouraging. I would imagine that the other instructors/staff are just as wonderful. I've already booked my next 3 classes and can't wait to continue getting better and stronger. Since I last reviewed, I've kinda stopped going. I loved it initially, as my earlier review noted, but the shine came off fast for a few reasons. Firstly, there kept being really overqualified people on the beginner classes. Nothing makes me feel more like a potato than having to share space with incredibly competent people who frankly have no place in a beginner class. I'm not sure why the studio allowed this, but they did and do. Secondly, the membership cost is obscene. You need to be hitting 3+ classes every week to make it worth while, and it's a 3 month minimum commitment. So almost $1k upfront for membership. Which, when crunch offers a similar class at only $73/ mo, seems absurd. They're still one of the best places to do Lyra in the city, but I can't recommend them any more. read more

Pole dancing has become my saving grace. Thank you Amy and everyone at SFPD for creating a safe and wonderful space with a friendly and supportive community. Big shoutout to Candy / Mae Mae. I've watched her grow into an amazing dancer. I started taking her flex classes in June, and then in July finally started taking her choreo classes, as well as a private with her- so good! I love her energy and how supportive she is to everyone. I never feel discouraged in her class. More instructors who are excellent at teaching newbies like myself and I recommend- Patricia, Os, Maddie I also took the Active Flexibility Teacher Training in July to get a deeper understanding of the class. Amy and Mick did a great job teaching, I wish it was longer because it was so much info to learn. Overall it was a great experience and made friends with everyone! read more

I moved to San Francisco last year and have been searching for a place to continue my aerial hammock journey. I'm so grateful to have found Sara V. at SF Pole & Dance! I attended her aerial hammock pop-up class a few weeks ago, and I loved it! The class catered to different levels---beginner students worked on foundational moves while more experienced students had the opportunity to link the different moves she taught during the class to create a beautiful sequence. I also appreciated how Sara created a safe, supportive, inclusive environment---she has a unique gift of being able to provide targeted feedback so you're always improving, delivered in the kindest way. I love how aerial hammock makes movement and inversions so accessible to different bodies, and I hope this becomes a regular class at SF P&D! read more

So glad I stumbled across SF Pole & Dance on Yelp because now I have an awesome new way to keep active and a wonderful community that I've been introduced to! I've taken 2 Lyra classes with Maxine and she is fab. If you're new, I seriously recommend her classes. She makes sure to challenge you whether it's your first class or you've taken a few more and really seems to adjust the lesson to your level. This is a space that oozes fun, challenge, connection and creativity with the many artistic/athletic programs it offers. I considered SFP&D my third home considering how much time I spent at this studio rarely getting bored. The best part of being a learner and instructor were the people you came in contact with, the people you developed friendships with and the various outtings outside of the studio that made living in SF colorful and vibrant. I posted a review here over three years ago when I first joined SF pole and dance about how much I was loving it so far. Well, I'm still here! I love this studio. Everyone is so supportive and welcoming and fun, and going to this studio has helped me so much in my confidence, stage presence, and flow. I've been able to see myself improve and progress and it's an amazing feeling. I also love that the studio gives students an opportunity to perform for an audience with the series classes. She broke down everything and made it super digestible and fun to learn. SF Pole & Dance has a warm welcoming staff! the studio itself is very open. The dark studio is really fun during heels classes to set the mood! Each class typically starts off with an introduction and an ice breaker question for each person. This is a nice touch, which allows classmates to talk/learn about one another a little. Mae Mae is an amazing teacher with a friendly attitude! I've taken her heels class. She's great at breaking down moves and awesome at explaining them to those who have little to no dance experience. Allison is also great! I just completed the competition series with her. She gave good feedback and helped me develop a routine. I also did the fall performance series with Noa as the instructor. She was awesome at accommodating the routine to everyone's strengths! I've had nothing but positive experiences at this studio. I wasn't sure what to expect when I found out we'd be taking a pole dancing class at San Francisco Pole and Dance. But not so surprisingly, we'd be the only guys in this class. That certainly doesn't mean this was easy! Far from it. Just 5 minutes into class, my arms were burning and I was sweating (not ideal with a slippery pole either). Who knew pole dancing required so much upper strength? While some of us were better at the routine than others, we all mastered it (sort of ) by the end. And I have to admit, I think I was pretty good. Though, I'm not sure my husband would like this as my new hobby! The classes last about 1 hour, and are a lot of fun. You can take it at your own pace and be as adventurous as you want! read more

This review is seriously overdue, considering San Francisco Pole and Dance is my favorite place in the whole entire world. I attended my first class here in March 2017 (with Maxine!) and took classes sporadically as a drop-in student until March of this year when I decided to become an unlimited member. Since then, SFPD has basically become my second home - this place is truly a pole dancer's haven. This beautiful studio has two rooms for instruction, an aerial space (for lyra, silks, straps), flexibility spaces, and a private pole training room. As an unlimited member, we have access to to all of the space (even after hours), which is so great for competition training or late night dance therapy sessions after a stressful day. The level of instruction here is unreal. I feel so fortunate to be able to learn from such amazing instructors at SFPD. I have great things to say about every instructor, but in summary everyone is amazing at breaking things down, making sure it's appropriate for each student's skill level, and most importantly making sure we're all safe. I regularly take classes with: Tricks (L2/L3/Tricks Clinics) - Kimmy, Aurora, Yoko, Os, Mimi, Allison, Maxine, Elizabeth Choreo - Aurora, Yoko, Mimi, Judy, Allison Flexibility - Michelle, Christine, Elizabeth, Mick (and handstands with Mick too!) Even though pole is my main apparatus, I sometimes play around/cross-train with others. Went for a lady's birthday party, and it was a super fun activity to do with friends. We could laugh at ourselves and each other, as well as cheer each other on. Our instructor was Alexis, and she was great: fun, unselfconscious, practical, impressive, and very helpful. The class material was challenging, but there's no pressure to do what you can't or aren't ready for. The facility was very clean and welcoming. I loved the high ceilings and bright vibes. read more

SF Pole and Dance is the best and most well-run dance, pole, aerial, and circus studio in San Francisco. Just ask the instructors who've taught all over the world! When I first started attending SFPD almost 2 years ago through ClassPass, I hadn't worked out in YEARS, was completely out of shape and definitely couldn't keep up with the rest of the class. But something was different about this studio compared to all other studios...I felt encouraged when I left each class, versus beaten down and feeling like I'll never get better. Amy, the studio owner, has the most amazing presence you'll ever experience. She's happy, friendly, encouraging, and doesn't push you harder than you're able to go. If you need someone yelling slur words at you for you to work harder, then this isn't the environment for you. This is an environment of acceptance, non-judgment, encouragement, and a desire to teach people how to care for their bodies. All the regulars at this studio are also super welcoming and friendly to new-comers. A year and 9 months later, I can easily do backbends, I almost have my splits down, and I've started training in aerial arts a few times a week now. I'm finally in shape, I'm no longer in bodily pain, and I LOVE working out because of this studio and the amazing instructors I get to work with throughout the week. I'd love to see you there! I organized a fitness pole dance class for my team at SF Pole and Dance. Sandi walked me through the process to set up the class and also taught our class of five. She gave key pointers that helped us progress from awkward to graceful. The class was structured well with blocks of time for a stretch and warm-up, practice on the pole, group dance to pull in all the techniques that Sandi taught us, and a demo of what an advanced athlete could do on the pole. Thank you, Sandi! The establishment was very clean and Sandi's team implemented the appropriate safety precautions. My team and I did not have any safety concerns. I highly recommend this studio for beginners through advanced students looking to have a well-rounded workout. Of course, it's a great team-building activity too. Been going to this amazing spot for about three months and I think it's about time to give a review. The space itself is gorgeous, but even that has NOTHING on the classes and staff it provides. Everyone is so warm and supportive, and the environment is the best fitness community I've been a part of. I've been limited to how many instructors I've had, but that's really a testament to them because I've gotten so attached and loyal to them. With that said, I've taken: Foundations with Melody and Carolyn. Melody is so fun and an absolute riot with the floor moves she teaches. Carolyn is MY GIRL and takes excellent notice of your skill level, where she can challenge you, etc Choreo Beg/Int with Tiffany Rose. She's a guest teacher from time to time, but if you see a class available with her take it ASAP--so funny and challenges you to improve your craft. Pole Level 2 with Cait, who is the epitome of angelic. If you're intimidated by the thought of entering Pole 2, take your first with her. So patient, kind and really goes the extra mile by emailing you after class. But honestly: I think I can say pretty confidently that anyone you work with here is going to be amazing. So pole dancing has always been something I've wanted to try at least once but not something I'd willingly try alone. I found out just two weeks ago that my coworker was also in this predicament so we decided to give it a try together! We purchased a Groupon for 5 classes at SF Pole and Dance which allows us to take any classes from acrobatics to acroyoga to flexibility to so much more! I've been dying to try the acroyoga class and once I realized this studio offers it, it made my Groupon purchase THAT much better. If you purchase the Groupon, you have to create a MindBody account and send your information along with your voucher to Amy and she will set you up. I did my first class yesterday and it was quite hard to find the building as you need to call to get buzzed in for entry. Luckily, someone who had a code let us in before we needed to try but this would be my only gripe. As we entered the studio, I really liked how small and intimate the setting was. The studio had the poles on the right hand side and mats for their stretching with a hoop on the left hand side. What I like most about this studio is the friendly instructors and the small classes. New classes can be intimidating but our class of just 5 people made it very easy for the instructor to focus on each person individually. Found this place on Groupon and originally was coming to try pole class. I got to reading their options and decided to go with Lyra. Yes I had to google it first and learned it is acrobats in the hoop. The space is in a good location if you want to drive and park for classes. The instructor is amazing very personal and the classes are kept to a small size, 6 max, which helps you get down some incredible moves in a mere 70 minutes. Had my first pole class at SFPD yesterday with a friend of mine (also her first time) and we had an absolute blast. We were greeted by the kindest and most outgoing people which got us in the right mood to start class. Our instructor was Alexandria and she was amazing. Pole is A LOT tougher than it looks so kudos to all the pole dancers out there! Alexandria was a great teacher and her step by step guidance made it easy to understand the moves. My friend and I were having trouble pulling ourselves up (hey, it's our first time ;)) and Alexandria was patient and helped us until we were able to do it on our own. She's very fun and encouraging. We broke a sweat but had fun doing it. Everyone there is positive and enthusiastic. Not once did we feel uncomfortable or out of place. I was recommended to SFPD by two other friends who do pole and Lyra here and I'm very happy that I signed up. I purchased a package and glad that I did. Looking forward to coming back and learning more. Practice makes perfect and this is the place to practice! I've been wanting to try pole dancing for a long time and I finally tried about a week and a half ago with a couple of my friends! We went to the L1 (Intro to Pole) class taught by Karri on Wednesday and it was so much fun! There are 6 poles with two people per pole. We started off with a warm up and then went straight into inverting (going upside down). After trying to straddle and do vagina monsters, we then learned how to spin on the pole. At the end of the class, we all had time to freely dance to an entire song. I enjoyed the class so much, I will definitely be back, but I was pretty sore for a couple of days afterwards. I stumbled upon SFPD in the beginning of March because I have always wanted to get into aerial silks AND pole dance. In fact, both were on my "Must Try" list for 2019. I was going studio to studio in the Bay Area to practice aerials until I found SF Pole and Dance. The community here is very inclusive and welcoming, and the unlimited classes and open membership is well worth the money if you're taking classes 3+ times a week and/or taking advantage of open gym. There are events and workshops held here from time to time such as the upcoming holiday open house, 5-week series to learn choreography and perform at the biannual showcases, and free intro classes for people new to the studio who are interested in trying pole, aerials, handstands, or flex. Another thing that drew me to this studio was it had a wide variety of classes to take - from working on pole tricks, learning and performing pole choreography, improving your active flexibility, doing your first handstand, and taking flight on aerial apparatuses such as silks, hoop, and straps. There are plenty of knowledgable and kind instructors with different movements and teaching styles to learn from. Quick shout out to my favorite instructors: Sable, Maxine, Nate, Alyssa, Os, Christine, Janet, Madeline, Elizabeth and Mick. I love going to the studio almost everyday and find that I leave the studio a happier person. I love taking classes with all of the amazing instructors. I've taken classes with Michelle, Kimmy, Christine, Aurora, Yoko, Sophia, and Elizabeth (I'm probably missing a few other instructors). Each instructor has there own teaching style that always leaves me wanting to learn more. The community is very supportive and welcoming. I spent two months in SF. The whole time I went do my class in SFPD. I did pole dance, Lyra and hammock there. I was going to class 3 times a week. Kissy Wan was my amazing Lyra teacher. Sara Visciglio was my awesome hammock teacher. And then for Pole Class I had the chance to get a lot of different teacher including Patricia Theel, Os, Carolyn Vasilevich and NJ. Incredible teachers. And the people welcoming you at the studio are super nice !! always so warm and make you feel like home and family ! They are all incredibly smily, kind and great educators ! So encouraging and so kind every time ! I have improve a lot in all classes thanks to them ! They always make sure that you improve AND have fun ! They also make sure that you feel safe learning your moves and being in the air. (I'm actually afraid of heights despite doing aerial since a bit already). I could write way more on how awesome they are. I had beautiful two months in SF and it was also thanks to them. I would highly recommend to go to this place for pole and aerial ! They are super great no matter what level you are ! I already took 3 friends there ! They all loved it ! I kid you not my life has changed since I started taking classes here. I started taking Bad Aby's Saturday heels choreo classes using a package I bought, and ended up doing one of her workshops - TWICE! It's such an inclusive studio, not to mention clean and spacious. I actually started pole at SF Pole and Dance's predecessor, Studio Botan, but didn't really like the vibe too much... Once Amy took over and completely revamped it, I couldn't be any happier! She created a space where everyone feels welcomed, safe, and at home while getting their butt kicked in a killer workout! People often hang out on the couch or spring floor and chat before/after class :) It goes without saying that the people teaching at SFPD are some of the best instructors and nationally acclaimed pole dancers in the city and you can really feel that when you come to class! I have taken pole L2/3 with almost all of the instructors and I've had such a great time and I've really started to build some strength and while you're at it, you should absolutely take some flexibility classes as well to make sure your body is not only STRONG but also FLEXIBLE! Pros: - Best instructors in the city - There is plenty of FREE street parking in front/around of the studio (!!!!) - Super friendly front desk - Amy is an amazing and sweet studio owner and makes sure you feel safe and welcomed - Wide variety of classes from pole fitness to aerial hoop, hip hop, and contortion style flexibility training, there's something for everyone! I am not one to write Yelp reviews but SFPD is truly magical. I just started a few months ago and have been feeling sincere gratitude for the instructors, space, and fellow classmates. It is not a studio where you walk in and in your novice-ness feel uncomfortable trying something new and being bad. I took a Heels Choreo Begin/Int class with Mae Mae (who I HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you can get in) and I've been buzzing with confidence since. I made many mistakes, slipped, looked uncoordinated, and didn't quite memorize the routine but the entire time Mae Mae created a space that made you feel like learning was about progress, not perfection. The space is about YOUR connection with YOUR sense of self and not how you perform and appear to others. I'm still on my journey and am so happy to have found SFPD which is a gym, mindfulness space, therapy (literally), and feminist safe space all in one. other instructions I'd highly recommend if you're a beginner or looking to take your first class: Maddie or Christie. They are so great at explaining the fundamentals. They also are funny and help you laugh as you learn and you'll leave for surely feeling accomplished. read more

I have been taking active flexibility classes at SF Pole and Dance for almost three weeks now and recommend it highly! I was intimidated before going in for my first class, but all of those concerns melted away by the end of class. Everyone here is so kind, and students are not pushed beyond their capability. It really feels like a judgement-free zone. I've taken classes with Michelle, Amy, Mick, Sophia, and Christine and they're all fabulous instructors! Every one of them has been so helpful and also very approachable. If you're considering going to a class here but have been hesitating, go for it! read more
