If you're looking for a dance instructor who's fun yet focused, energetic but deliberate, and able to choreograph your wedding dance to wow your guests while making the process completely collaborative, book with Val! Our first dance will forever be etched into our memories as one of the most mesmerizing experiences of our wedding weekend. Dancing with Val was the highlight of our week. It was both our date nite, and the one thing that kept us sane during wedding planning. So if you're stressed and looking for an immensely fun way to unwind - give Val your time and she'll make it worth your while! When we first met Val, we had a song and a lofty goal - to lose ourselves in a perfectly choreographed dance that made sparks fly and dazzled our guests. Over multiple sessions, she coached us through various dance moves, studied our movements, taught us how to move to the beat of the song, workshopped new moves with us, listened to and absorbed our feedback, encouraged us to practice - why wouldn't we?! We were having a blast - and developed us into dance ninjas (or so we felt ;)) As the moment came for our first dance, we weren't nervous, we were exhilarated. Val inspired us to master something entirely original and because of her patience, persistence, honest feedback, and infectious joy of teaching, we looked and felt damn good. Book a meeting with Val, talk with Val and tell her what you're looking for, dance with Val in her studio and most importantly get ready to love dancing more than you thought you ever would!

We booked Richard for our wedding's first dance and he was seriously the most awesome and enjoyable dance teacher! We actually chose two songs and he was able to design two dances for us, piece by piece, that both matched the vibe of the music and us as a couple. He was able to simplify the dance moves for us as beginners and we had so much fun throughout the process. We looked forward to our Wednesday dance sessions with Richard every week! It was a great and fun break from our work week. Richard was very welcoming and made learning the dances very enjoyable. He was hands on and we could tell he was as invested in our dance as much as we were. By the end of our 6 sessions, we definitely considered him a friend. We absolutely recommend booking Richard for your first dance or if you're just interested in learning to dance... Shall we dance?

Our first dance went so smoothly during our wedding and my husband and I had a wonderful time dancing - we felt confident, prepared, and had fun with it. I give all the credit to Richard. We enjoyed every one of the five dance lessons we had with him prior to our wedding. Richard gave us choreography that went very well with our song (Yellow by Coldplay) and also adjusted it based on our skill level and preference. Richard has a unique talent for being able to explain dance concepts in simple terms and he breaks down choreography into manageable pieces at every lesson. Richard mirrored both the "male" and "female" parts for the spins, dips, and lifts so both my husband and I understood what to do. I really loved our wedding dance and look forward to watching it from time to time to bring back all the happy memories. We highly recommend Richard to be your wedding dance choreographer!

Richard was a fantastic dance teacher/ choreographer for our first dance at our wedding. Neither of us dance and know our right foot from our left, but miraculously he was able to choreograph a sweet and simple dance to our song of choice that got all our guests applauding like crazy! We had a limited amount of time and budget and we were so happy to work with a professional and get comfortable with the steps before the big day. Richard, thank you for your time and energy, it truly paid off!

Our wedding dance was a huge highlight for us and our guests, and we would recommend Angela for your wedding dance prep! We took 5 classes with Angela for our wedding dance, and we felt very comfortable by the time our wedding came along. We came to her with two songs we wanted to dance to, and some YouTube Inspo for moves and styles we wanted to incorporate. Thank you Angela for an unforgettable dance and helping us work on our moves and confidence.

A great place for a disco party!! Thanks Val!!!

So many teachers to choose from, recently I've been taking Jepoy's Beg Hip Hop on Friday nights and they've been so fun! I plan to take others! Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Parking is pretty easy on Fri nights, but I can't speak for the other days, as it is located in the city. They also have spring performance workshops, which I plan to do in the future! The main studio space WAS HUGE! So much space to dance and I was pleasantly surprised! The class itself was PACKED but I was able to find my way to the front/middle area! I do follow City Dance on Instagram in order to keep myself updated on instructors and classes offered! I can't wait to come back to try other genres. They have a massive assortment of teachers / instructors! Lots of talent in SF!

After work I would go to ODC on certain days. I've been taking hip hop classes since 2007 at ODC. Almost 100% of the hip hop classes I enrolled are taught my Micaya. What I love about ODC is the studios aren't dark inside. Also the studios are spacious enough where you don't feel cramped. Even though I've taken hip hop classes for almost 20 years at ODC it doesn't feel dated. The one complaint I would make is regards to Studio B, which is where I take hip hop classes. Most of the studios downstairs have wooden floors however upstairs inside Studio B the Marley floor has too much grip or can be sticky. I'm surprised that throughout the years I haven't twisted my ankle or knee. Despite the Marley floor I enjoy taking hip hop classes at ODC.

They take the time to look at you, what you're doing, and help you learn, adjust, and get to know your body more. I'm an unlimited member, but the $25 per class (or whatever it is), is the best way to spend $25 in San Francisco. Not exaggerating. Jess is such an experienced coach. She moves like water. She watches your body, and understands how it works. She makes hands on adjustments. Being in class with her - I truly feel like I'm with a professional-grade artist. Power Barre is a must, for any dancer, any fan of Pilates, or anyone who just wants a lean, toned dancer bod. And Pop Jam is so much fun. I've also taken Jazz Funk with Tashi, which is the BEST way to start a Monday. It's beginner friendly, but you learn technique. She's fun, lively, hilarious. Every single person is beaming when they leave her class. Drenched with Anna is also a pleasure. She's a delight to watch. A true athlete in her flow. It's a real workout! Belly Dance with Andrea was a surprise to me. I had no idea what Belly Dance was until I took this class. As it turns out, Belly Dance is like a mix of Pilates and Booty shaking. I didn't think I could move so precisely, but Andrea is such a good teacher, and so good at explaining the moves - I believe she can teach anyone how to Belly Dance. She has a thorough understanding of the history, the culture, and the artistry. Hip Hop with Mahi - the most energetic ball of fun there is. She's effortless. Drenched with Diamond - another great workout, and a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning. I love to take my girlfriends and get brunch in Union Square afterwards. Also, the Rae Studios Showcase was SO much fun. You get training in how to perform as a group. The adrenaline is intoxicating. There are people who do four per season, is how fun it is. I'm glad that Rae studios has partnered with Wellhub/Gympass, This week I took a regular kpop class with Oche for the first time. I have done the performance workshop series with Fran last fall. Both Oche and Fran are great teachers, super energetic, thorough warmups and always checking in if we have questions on the choreography. Also both are super stylish!! Typically, you can see what song is being taught on Rae Studio's Instagram the day before the class. I've also taken several of the free kpop classes at Civic Center with Fran. For the free class, it is on the other side of the outdoor gym. It can get loud during events nearby, but Fran does her best to be loud and clear. As for the performance workshop, it was fun but the day of the performance was quite chaotic. The lights were different than how it was during the rehearsal runs and it was super disappointing when the music cut out. On the bright side, I felt like our group got to know each other well and even held a potluck together! I probably won't do another performance workshop series anytime soon, but will definitely keep coming to the regular and free classes.

Everyone, as a whole, she talks down to. No one is goofing, chatting or not paying attention and she still flips out acting all insulted because we aren't understanding the cultural or historical significance of the dance. Meanwhile many, many of the dancers are of actual Latina or Caribbean descent and don't need to be scolded on our heritage. And she now speaks with a weird, b.s. fake accent. She didn't used to have one! I actually used to take samba classes with her, as students, back in the early 2000's. Same attitude, no accent. I wrote an e-mail addressing my concerns, and for some odd reason this same teacher was extra rude to my daughter the next day. She made my daughter do extra warm up reps although my daughter said her back was hurting from practice the day prior. At some point during class, she grabbed my daughter's arm very harshly. All the students in that class agreed that this teacher was unfair and unkind. My daughter refused to go back to dance camp and we had 2 days left of paid camp. Management refused to reimburse me and made excuses for this type of abusive/unprofessional behavior for this particular teacher. All other staff members were very nice. I can make a bigger deal about this matter by filing a complaint with the BBB or even take them to civil court. But I've decided to write my first review on Yelp just to forewarn other parents.
