When I arrived at about 10 I was told that there was now a queue and I'd have to wait a half hour to be seen. That along with the overall vibe like I was bothering the alteration lady made me take my business elsewhere. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and I will never set foot in this business again.

The woman at the front desk was very friendly, but I was shocked when I was told it would cost $10 to sew such a tiny hole. For such a simple repair, that seemed very overpriced and left me disappointed. I also brought in my husband's biker jacket to have several patches sewn on and the zipper repaired. When I went back to check on it, I was told the patches were "too difficult" to install and that they couldn't do the work. Thankfully, we found another cleaner that was happy to sew on the patches, repair the zipper, and charge much more reasonable prices. That experience really highlighted the difference in customer service and willingness to help. While the front desk employee was pleasant, the combination of the high price for a simple repair and the refusal to do the jacket work left us with a poor impression. Unfortunately, we won't be returning and will continue using the cleaner that was willing to help.

I could cut you with the crease of my pants…read more I'm not kidding. After the disastrous brouhaha that led me to to write a scathing (okay, mildly scathing), review for *another* dry cleaner in this small town, I thought it would only be right to balance the scales with a positive review. This is dry cleaning done right. While some of my friends are flakesters and will hit up the cheapest joint in HoJo, others have long been extolling the magnificent services of Van Vlack's. Family owned, professional, and timely, this place IS on the steep side. However: Stubborn stain? Gone. Stinky shirt? Clean. Crumpled suit? Crisp. I could cut you with the crease of my pants.

After we asked her to put her mask on, she became very combative. This is the second time we've encountered this same employee running the front of the business without wearing a mask. The owners do not seem to be concerned with enforcing Covid-19 public health safety protocols for their employees, even thought there is signage out front that clearly states customers must wear masks if they want to be serviced. This is gravely concerning since this lack of care subsequently puts both employees AND customers at risk of getting sick. Very reprehensible behavior and I urge anyone who has any sort of immune system problem due to cancer treatment, autoimmune disease, etc. to STEER CLEAR of this business. This is the first and last time we will ever use their services.

Generally, I try to abide by the old adage, 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say…read moreanything at all...' or whatever the line is. Point is, if a place sucks, particularly a locally-owned business, I really don't want to write a review that might have an overall negative effect on the customer flow. Especially since said business might have very few or no other reviews. BUT, sometimes you just have to. I have given Taconic Cleaners a try almost every single time I've been in the area and in need of some quick dry cleaning and/or alterations. I'm done doing that now. Moving on to another place. Why? you ask... In short: Suit Pants: stain remains Coat: Looks the same, somehow smells worse than before cleaning Dress: 3 weeks and still not altered in time for a wedding (another girl's prom dress was still on the rack, untouched, after 5 weeks. She was nearly in tears) The last straw: Brand new Dry-clean-only Sweater: miraculously shrunken to a new size. I understood that there were some management issues, and its a family-run business so there were some personal times as well, but you know, you can only support a business so much before you realize you're just the idiot with the shrunken sweater, the stained pants, and a doesn't-seem-to-be-clean coat. Business is business; and they won't be getting any of mine any longer.

I've actually been unable to get the smell OUT of some clothes so I stopped going there, because it smells like old lady perfume or something and is strong. Once, I did my sheets there and had to re-do them all, because my bed smelled like a herd of old ladies or weird white ladies with bad taste from department stores were sleeping in it. I used to always go to the other one on Main Ave. -- which has a severe lack of washers because the staff uses them and does not care if there are none for customers and will let stuff sit in dryers for a considerable amount of time, even if people are waiting to use them. They suggested East Ave, and like I said, great facility, great people, but I don't understand the perfume smell. If it happened once, I'd not complain -- but it happened more than once, and I really don't like the time waste of doing laundry as it is, so having to do it twice is just painful to me. Maybe they'll look into it. I know I have a bit of a wolf nose, but it IS strong and my husband noticed it, too, since I never smell like old white lady.
