3days before my wedding, at 8pm I picked up my dress. Eva applied chemicals on the dark marks she had left on the front of the dress and told me once it dries off, it will come off completely. This mark didn't exists when I dropped off the dress. When the next day (48 hrs before wedding) it was still there, she stopped replying to my messages. The front of my strapless dress was lopsided becoz she had removed boning to create room around the back zipper, so much so that she offered putting pads to fill the giant gap between my chest and the front. She has no idea how to do French bustles and instead suggests inverted-cones by pulling the dress up and pinning on the outside. Unprofessional and irresponsible. Not to mention how she runs a sweat shop in her garage, working the seamstress on weekends and odd hours. read more

I think she has lost her touch for quality over quantity. For starters. They told me that my dress would be done 2 weeks (8/27) before my wedding(9/10) I went 8/27 to PICK UP my dress and they did not do multiple things. 1. The strap was twisted from the first alterations they did. When I pointed it out the owner said to calm down and it was an easy fix.- this was on 8/27, the original "pick up" date 2. All 4 fittings they told me the white cup was all they had. When I went to PICK UP (8/27) my dress, two weeks before my wedding, with my mother, she threw a fit. The strap was still twisted. The cup was very visible through the dress. THEN they decided to swap out for the nude cup. But I'd have to wait a week for this alteration, along with fixing the strap they twisted. The pick up appointment and the dress wasn't even steamed/pressed. 3. On 8/27 We obviously ended up being there for a few minutes past our "15min" time slot (since this was supposed to be the PICK UP. After cutting out the whitecup she put in and My mom insisting there had to be another option (owner then showed me nude cup after trying to convince me to go with no cup) I wanted to make sure the dress would be ready next week (6 days before wedding) she told me that I was "up" on my time for my appointment. And rushed me out. ****Remind you that this was supposed to be the pick up. My mom asked if this was her "best work" and if she felt comfortable sending me home with white cups that were visible and a twisted strap and she asked us to leave. When I went to pick up the dress 6 days before my wedding she asked me to leave a tip. A dress this simple.... Maybe she hides her poor skills better with lace to cover up? I don't know. All I know is she couldn't handle this very simple dress. And charged $750 for cups/hemming length and taking in 1/2 inch on sides. Not to mention my dress RIPPED before I even walked down the isle. Horrible service. Horrible quality. Other than that they are VERY rude and not skilled. Doesn't take credit card. Only cash or Zelle/venmo... is this a legitimate business???? read more

I took my bridal gown to Pins & Needles in Portchester with very little time before my wedding. My mother and I were blown away by literally every aspect of this shop. They used to be located in rye but they moved their shop to Portchester in her home and turned the entire garage into a store. It is the cleanest place I've ever seen and the quality of their work is beyond impeccable. I am a plus size bride and she took this gown, which looked nice on me but something was off, and made me feel beautiful in it. My gown had seven layers. Each of them had to be shortened and then I needed a bustle. She made sure to have it come up and lay flat so it wouldn't the all bunched up in the back and secured it with three buttons. Then she lowered the armpits because the beading scraped my back so it was actually comfortable to wear. She removed boning in places that stuck out and looked bad and switched the cup size for me. She also shortened the shoulder straps so my breast's sat where a 35 year old bride would want them. I'm sure there's at least three more things they did for me but they didn't just fix my dress. They upgraded it and made me feel like a princess while doing so. I have to say, they aren't cheap. So if you're looking for something cheap I wouldn't go here. But, if you want something done right and are willing to pay to get what you want, this is your place! I also wanted to add that she did my dress in a few weeks. She had about 200+ wedding dresses that she had worked on ready for pickup. I could go on forever about these women. Go to pins & needles! read more

I met Eva about three years ago when I needed a dress altered for a black tie wedding. I brought her two options after seeing her high rating and how close I lived to her. I was blown away by what I got back: two expertly tailored gowns that fit me like they were sewn on my body. That sentiment is a compliment every time I wear a dress that Eva has tailored. Fast forward to October 2019 when I found the wedding gown of my dreams. The bridal shop recommended a tailor they worked with out in Norwalk. I take the risk and waste three, valuable sessions there before I made the call to switch tailors and bring my gown to Eva with three months to go to my wedding date. Eva and Sonia are angels. They possess true patience and kindness - the kind that never runs out. They *heard* what I had to say about how I wanted my dress to look and executed it perfectly. Eva met with me (and my family!) each week until the dress was perfect and just as I had envisioned. Eva and Sonia treat you like family - getting your dress right to your standards is personal to them. My fittings would be part fitting and part therapy LOL. It was exactly what I needed. Eva and Sonia tailored all the dresses I was planning to wear for my destination wedding weekend - three plus my gown. Mine had French lace which is really delicate to work with. When I got the dress, I was not able to lift my arms. Eva and Sonia worked so hard on my dress and I don't know how they did it, but I could raise my arms in it! You could not even tell the dress had been touched. Pictures speak for themselves. One photo is my dress before alterations and one is after. I spent an arm and a leg for this place to ruin the back of my wedding dress and I have never in my life felt so disrespected. Every step of the way was an argument to have them fix basic mistakes they made. They initially made my dress too tight and suggested that maybe I "gained weight". Even though I had lost weight, and who says that to a bride?? I had to beg them to alter it after that, and they only continued to make it worse and worse. At one point they even told me "it doesn't need to be perfect" - is that the attitude of someone you want altering your wedding dress? Eva advertises that she will alter it until you're satisfied but it is a total lie. I tried and tried until I ran out of time and my dress was completely ruined. My dress was very difficult with thick material, strapless, boning, and more and had to be tailored perfectly to me - I worried it was an impossible job. Eva and Sonia saved the day for me. My gorgeous and expensive Mother-of-the-Bride dress was literally ruined when I picked it up from another seamstress one week before my daughter's October 30th out-of-town wedding. I found Pins and Needles after calling around and made an online appointment on Sunday, October 23rd for the next afternoon at 4 p.m. I decided to call the number on the text confirmation I received, and spoke to Eva and explained my "emergency". She changed the appointment to 10 in the morning and told me not to worry. When I got there she and Sonia spent 45 minutes seam ripping, pinning, measuring and taking pictures. I was leaving the next day (luckily from Westchester County Airport - only 10 minutes from Pins and Needles). Eva had me come for the fitting on my way to the airport (my husband would have brought the dress on Friday if it wasn't ready). The dress was perfect and Eva packed it up to go right into my suitcase. It did cost a small fortune (I had been told that I would be charged double due to the rush) but it was worth every penny! As soon as I returned to NY I went right back there with another dress - a tricky alteration - they made it look like the dress was custom made for me. I highly recommend Eva and her team. read more

Amazing seamstresses! I needed my bridesmaid's dress taken in and hemmed. These ladies did an amazing job. My first two fittings were a little too tight for me and they re-tailored and took it out for me 2 additional times without a problem and no extra charge; constantly making me feel comfortable with the situation saying that they will continue to work on it until I'm satisfied. Not to mention, the turn around time was extremely fast. I think they offered to have it done within 2-3 days which I didn't end up needing it that fast but great to know they are willing and able to do this. The final fitting was perfect and the dress came out exceptional! I will be coming back here for all of my future tailoring needs! I am extremely unhappy with my recent alteration that I received from this business. I was the maid of honor at my friends wedding and needed the bust taken in and up. Their solution was to put a terribly sewn snap on the neckline of the dress which looked terrible due to my body naturally pulling on the fabric. Mind you, they did not tell me they were going to sew in a snap, and on the day of my fitting pre-alteration, they made it seem like everything I wanted was perfectly fine and easy! I had to remove the snap myself with a seem ripper and wear the dress with a very low neckline which showed way too much cleavage, in my opinion. Which was the reason I went to this business in the first place! In addition to the strange snap, the waist line was unevenly sewn and there was bunched up fabric in the breast cups. I honestly don't know how it could have been worse. I felt horribly self conscious the entire day of the wedding. To top it off- the alteration was $275, more than the dress itself. And they don't take credit cards. read more

I went to Pins & Needles to have some clothing tailored. They did a great job, however they charge so much more than other places that do alterations, I cannot give them 5 stars. I feel ripped off that I paid $61 for hemming two pairs of pants and a shirt. The same thing at Thomas Cleaners would have only cost me $25. I had a dress I needed taken in and Pins and Needles quoted $65 (it would have been $75 but I was a first time customer). I took the same dress to Thomas and it was only $25 and they did a great job. Again, if you need a place and you live in Rye might be worth it, but I'll be going where the prices are more fair. read more

The staff here are very friendly and pulled off a miracle for me and my brother. My brother's wedding was coming up fast and we ran into an issue with getting our suits shipped. We ended up getting the suits on a Friday, and requested they be altered by the following Wednesday. Understanding this was very short turnaround, they were still able to do it with no problems. The quality of work could not have been better. Since my brother was getting married, I wanted him to look perfect. After the alterations, the suit looked great on him and fit him well. The suit was considered to be "slim fit", but the amount of work they had to do to make it actually fit him like it should was a lot...and well worth it. I will be bringing all my future alteration needs here for sure, and recommend you do so as well. read more

They don't tell you until you leave what everything will cost until they print the ticket. I left with an extra long gown that I ended up tripping over the entire night. When I tried it on the day I picked it up she THEN went on to say after I pointed out that it was too long that they "weren't used to altering gowns like this one.... OK so you just take my money. This shop is fantastic. Highly skilled seamstress modernized a jacket given to me by my father in 1987. It was a very involved and difficult job. It looks incredible and I can't wait to wear it. The owner is a lovely person and even dry cleaned the jacket without my asking and she refused to charge me. I live in the city but I'll be making special trips to this place. At first I thought they were great. However, that's only when you get fitted for the first time. When I came back the dress was done beautifully however it didn't fit my body the way I wanted so another adjustment was made. After that the cups were messed up the dress was too tight and when I asked for adjustments ($150) later I was told they did the best they could and if I wanted anymore changed she's charge at least $45. The whole point in alterations and to receive what you pay for and get the outcome you wish. You pay a certain $ value for an area, not to do it once and say it is what it is. Lazy is all I can say, don't recommend if your going for more than a small one time alteration. EXTREMELY disappointed read more

I was referred here by a friend, after I had a terrible alteration experience somewhere else. I had sleeves put onto a dress that looked awful. The wonderful women at Pins & Needles were able to replace those sleeves with a much better material. They also recommended some other minor changes that completely transformed the gown into a custom look that was perfect! The owner is very kind and knowledgeable, and I felt so much better about the process after my first consultation. I found Pins and Needles through Yelp and was happy to have found a company with so many great reviews. I was willing to pay more for a better service for my wedding dress and my now wife's wedding dress. They were nice but I can't say that I had the amazing experience everyone seems to have. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. She explained to me that because of the detail on the corset they had to remove a lot of the beads and than put them on. I wish they had taken that into account with the timeline. When they took it in too much the first time it was too tight so they fixed it however I still had a lot of time to go and they knew I was still losing weight. When I came back the next time it fit great but they seemed frustrated that I'd be losing more weight which I had said from the start and at this point we were at least 2 months out. My fiancé was feeling anxious as well because they didn't to take her too seriously until her mom joined and their attentiveness changed. It was due to this I had my now mother and law drive an hour just to come with me because I wasn't confident they were doing the best work. I even had them fit me in a day when my fiancé was doing a fitting because I didn't feel great confident that they were doing the best work and I didn't want to make her mom drive in twice. That date was about a month from the wedding and everything felt good. We had planned for me to come in 11 days before the wedding for one last fitting so they had time to make changes as needed. At that fitting they didn't take my concerns that the corset was falling down a little when it hadn't been before. They wanted me to take the dress and I think that's because they didn't want to take it in again. To be honest, I wish I went with my gut and made them take it in. I even stress ate all week leading up to the wedding because I felt if I didn't the dress would be big. The dress was big at the wedding anyhow and I had to pull it up all night. Also my skirt was super uneven. If I didn't call it out they wouldn't have done anything to fix that. They had my fiancé pick up her dress a month before the wedding which from all my friends who've been married that is way too early. No bridal shop would have you pick it up that early. She was anxious for weeks about the fit. On the wedding night we learned they didn't do a great job on the bustle and a lot of the dress was not bustled. We safety pinned it. What was the point in paying someone to create the bustling? Also, we were a two bride wedding so we had two dresses. I made it clear we didn't want to see each other's dresses. I offered to call in advance to remind them and the woman assured me I didn't have to and that she wrote it in her calendar. Sure enough my dress was out when my fiancé arrived. Luckily my mother and law knew what it looked like and had them hide it. My dress was unique that it was a corset and skirt and my fiancé knew that so it would have been super easy for her to know that was my dress. I called for all remaining fittings they seemed surprised each time I called. To be honest, I felt like they didn't want to put in the extra work on our "detailed" dresses more than the minimum and didn't put enough thought into the timing with our wedding date. The high cost was not worth it to me. It's hard to be honest about these concerns during the process when you don't want to upset the people who have control of such an expensive item that if they get mad you're kind of screwed. I'm not saying they would have done anything but I wanted to be nice and I guess I was too nice and trusting of the process. read more
