Such friendly staff - April (I think she is the office manager) is great. She is so friendly and she makes you feel as if she has known you for years. I have been back 4 or 5 times since having the temp tooth put on. Whitening, cleaning, plaque removal, fixing another cracked tooth, etc. they are my go-to dentist. On a side note, I do not like going to the dentist - you have to pay for the pain (needles/drilling). I will say that Dr Dennis gives the needle with virtually no pain at all. They take their time using a numbing agent first. The first time I had the needle there, I could barely feel it - I think I actually said "is that it?". All I can say is what a great shop and the staff is great and Dr Dennis is excellent.

Two months later, I received a surprise bill for an additional $598 -- more than three times the original estimate. When I asked for clarification, the office explained that they are out-of-network with my insurance provider. At no point in the written estimate or treatment plan was this mentioned, nor was I warned that this could result in significantly higher costs. When I raised these concerns, they claimed they had verbally disclosed their out-of-network status during a consultation over a year ago. I do not recall such a conversation, and regardless, this critical information was completely absent from the written estimate I received at the time of scheduling the procedure. Despite my efforts to resolve the matter respectfully -- even offering a partial goodwill payment -- the office and owner ultimately stood by the charge and stopped responding to my emails after a single reply. I believe patients deserve clear and transparent financial information, especially when given a written estimate. Omitting important details like network status and potential insurance penalties is, in my view, both unprofessional and unfair. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this office after such a costly and frustrating experience.

However, when I saw Dr. Chang, she could not find these 11 cavities :-) She commended me on my dental hygiene, and sent me on my way. These qualities are so hard to find in one dentist, and I honestly saw a string of not-so-great dentists before seeing her. This makes me appreciate her even more! I am a nurse and a soon-to-be dietitian, so I'm very selective about the healthcare providers I see. And I'm so grateful to have found Dr. Chang!

The next morning, which was a Saturday, I decided to call North Bethesda dental and to my surprise, I was able to book an emergency appointment for Monday morning. I would still have to wait an additional day for relief but I was happy to not have to see anyone other than Dr. Kim. I arrived Monday morning at 9:45am and was immediately seen. It took no more than 10 minutes to identify the problem and come up with a solution. Turns out I needed a root canal.. and before I could run out the back door, Dr. Kim and his entire staff took turns assuring me that I would be fine, feel virtually no pain during the procedure, and walk away in much better shape than I came in. I cried the entire time in the chair, but not because I felt pain-- just out of fear. Dr. Kim was so compassionate... when the procedure was complete, I wanted to give him a big hug and thank him. Just as I was told, I didn't feel a thing during my procedure. I have been referring co workers to North Bethesda during the years but I now have business cards from the office to hand out during meetings. I have never been more pleased to have dental work done! The lower ratings are well deserved in my opinion. My experience there was of a money-first, patients-second operation. I share some experiences below. TLDR - They recommended unnecessary and expensive procedures and became quite nasty when I questioned them. During my time using StarBrite, they recommended multiple unnecessary procedures. I went in for a routine cleaning. The dentist told me that I had several cavities that would require multiple fillings. I said I wanted a second opinion from another dentist. They were offended and then pressured me into scheduling an appointment for the fillings and paying for them in advance. I finally came to my senses and went to another dentist for a second opinion anyway. The result: No cavities. No fillings needed. I just needed a better cleaning and a sealant replaced (a much simpler, less invasive, cheaper procedure). My teeth were (and are) fine. Another example. I said that I was thinking about getting my teeth straightened. They said they'd be happy to do that, but I would first need gum grafting surgery to prepare my gums for the orthodontics, which they of course would also be happy to do. Again, I got a second opinion and was told that was not necessary. Then there's the issue of making payments. They demand up-front payment; they don't accept insurance (or didn't when I used to go there). They'll send a bill to your insurance company afterward so the insurance will (hopefully) reimburse you, which is nice, I suppose. But they demand the money direct from you. I've never had another dentist do that.

Until later I went to a different place and did the exact same deep cleaning procedure, which only takes me 2 hours to recover. The difference was too big! Plus, they did a filling to my right back teeth, which has been identified as the worst job ever. I had to redo the filling at a different place. Moreover, each time I went there they would try to sell me something! Their focus is on revenue generation, not customer satisfaction!
