Took my 3 year old son here for his first dentist visit ever. The staff was very friendly and accommodating at the fact that he was terrified. He ended up seeing Dr. Blank who was gentle and slow while doing the cleaning. We didn't feel rushed at all and my son ended up calming down after a few minutes. When we were done he was given a small toy car and a dental kit to take home with him. If you have a child that is nervous about their first dental visit then this is the place to go. It's designed to appeal to children and all of the staff help make it as pleasant as it can be. Even though we are planning to move out of the area we will be still coming back here. read more

I didn't, and I am revisiting years of dental trauma because of it, , but my kids will never experience that because Dr. Derek and the entire office is amazing. We recently moved from out of state and needed new providers for everything. With an immunocompromised family member, we have been taking the highest precautions during the COVID crisis and have adhered to safe at home protocol and avoiding any non-essential activities. Our kiddos have good dental health and before COVID, received regular 6-mo cleaning visits. We were willing to let that time between cleanings stretch a bit but when my 6 yo daughter complained of pain in her mouth, I researched pediatric dental practices and were lucky enough to come across DC Pediatric Smiles. They are as contactless a practice as possible. All the initial new patient paperwork was completed securely online. Our arrival and entry into the office was timed to ensure we weren't exposed to more than one assistant. Immediately upon entry we were directed to the open restroom so we could wash our hands and then we received a contactless temporal temperature check. They explained that typically parents would be asked to wait for their children in the car (there are a row of parking spots available under shade in case that makes you nervous!) but since it was our first visit to the practice and because my kiddo was feeling insecure, I could wait for her in the consult office. The walls are clear and I could see my daughter the whole time. Thankfully she got over her nervousness immediately and didn't even look for me. Dr. Blank and the DC Pediatric Smiles team were able to convey warmth and friendliness behind their masks which they wore the whole time. I think that's what Tyra Banks calls smeyezing. They're excellent smeyezers. My daughter said they were patient with her and explained what they needed her to do clearly and when the movie they had on (Zootopia) felt scary, they switched it to Frozen 2 for her. So clearly they know kids. From a grown up's POV, this practice is completely buttoned up both in their business practices and how they maintain their offices. The attention to detail conveys in the way they're operating under COVID times. Will have no concerns about returning here next month for my son's cleaning appointment. Appointments are a little backed up now as they make up rescheduled appointments from the earlier COVID closures but they're prioritizing visits for patients with immediate pain. read more

Excellent service and professionalism. Although the office is a little out of my way, it was worth the drive. This was my daughter's 1st dental visit and I felt safe and at ease. Staff was very friendly and attentive and did everything possible to keep my 1.5 yr old calm. They played her favorite movie to catch her attention and showed me a better way to brush her teeth. DC Pediatric Smiles makes me want to be a pediatric dentist. This office is seriously amazing -- above and beyond any clinical office I've ever seen. Clinical care - It's one thing to have a fancy office and nice smiles, but I really want someone competent taking care of my kids. Dr Blank and his team are really knowledgeable and answered all my "first time mom" questions with respect and compassion. I know nothing about oral health, so it's really helpful to have someone I trust and respect to give the low down in an easy and professional manner. My kids started with them when they opened (one was an infant and one a toddler I think) and they LOVE going to the dentist. We even drive by and they ask to go in for a "play date". I get it. I kind of want to also. To just hang out there. Bounce around some beach balls, drink some sparkling water, and soak in some good vibes. Staff - ALL -- I mean, ALL, are somehow strangely so super nice AND competent. It's really strange. I'm not sure if they're putting something in the water or air to make everyone so kind, customer-focused, and also really good at their work, but it's striking. Everyone that I've ever interacted with (and it's a lot with two kids who started when they first opened), has tried to be as helpful and kind as possible. Even when I send the most obnoxious "mom" messages ("how do I take out my daughter's first loose tooth? how do I do the ninja tooth fairy thing at night and not wake her?" etc) they are kind and compassionate. But the other thing I've noticed is how inclusive and diverse the staff are. I'm really impressed to see people of color throughout the office. Perks - pre-covid, they had fancy beverages and a cool toy/play area, bay windows, comfy pillows. They have monitors for kids to stay occupied during a cleaning, and their toys afterwards are pretty awesome. During our covid appt, they even gave ME a gift?! They had covid precautions/regulations down to a tee! Someone came out to the car, updating me regularly on what's going on, what they're finding, what to expect next, along with texts. I was so surprised at how organized and smooth the entire process was, which really helps, as taking young kids for health care during a pandemic can be slightly stressful. I could go on and on about this office. And I do to people I meet. Because this office is truly amazing and I'm so thankful they are taking care of my kids. My biggest concern about them is that they'll be so full of patients that they won't have time to see us anymore! I'm hoping my kids can go there until they are adults... and wouldn't be surprised if my kids end up inspired to go into dentistry because of them. read more

They even helped me figure out pricing ahead of providing service because they are out of network for our new insurance. Would enthusiastically recommend to any parent. This is the best kids dental office I have ever been in. I've been to a few nice ones in the past. What I love the most is that I was treated with so much respect and dignity. I am a busy mom and I'm not afraid to accept I haven't been the best at keeping up with my kids dental care. Nope, you can't judge me. - Not once did the dentist or the staff made me feel guilty or bad about it. I felt so welcomed. My girls love the practice and everyone there. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Another plus is that they don't recommend unnecessary procedures. I had seen another dentist for the same issue my 5 year old is having, and the recommendations were different, here the doctor recommended exactly what was needed. Health was the focus not the money. I had an AMAZING experience at DC Pediatric Smiles. Everyone was warm, friendly and engaging. The space is beautifully decorated and clean. It is definitely inviting for young children. From the scheduling of our appointment to talking with the dentist, everything was so professional, easy and clear. They took the time to show me the X-rays, explain what was going on with my little ones teeth and made helpful recommendations. My daughter loved that there was a screen on the ceiling so she got to watch the movie "Encanto" while her teeth were being cleaned. There was so much attention to detail including the large chalkboard with the names of all the kids coming in for a visit that day. My daughter felt SO special when she found her name on the chalkboard. Alison (at the front desk) was patient and kind about explaining the billing and insurance details. Awesome experience per usual! Every staff member is so pleasant and friendly! This was my toddlers 2nd visit (we go every 6 months). Covid precautions are in place, so we waited in the car until our appt time for someone to come out to escort us in. They don't allow parents to come in unless your child exhibits distress being alone. They are so thorough - the hygienist came out first to update me on how the visit was going so far. And then Dr. Blank came out to give the final update after his exam. The office also texts you updates during the visit and send photo updates as well while you wait in the car. My 9yo was a little nervous about having to go to a new dentist, but she was completely won over by Dr. Derek, his staff, and the welcoming environment at D.C. Pediatric Smiles. The office is absolutely beautiful, pleasantly neat and clean, and caters to children in every aspect. The administrative staff is professional and friendly beyond words. My daughter felt more at ease as soon as we walked through the doors of this practice, and Dr. Derek far exceeded her expectations and mine with his warm, engaging, and fun approach which kept my daughter relaxed throughout the whole visit. So glad to have found this dentist for my preschooler. They do an amazing job of making nervous kids feel comfortable (even as they discourage parents from accompanying the child during the visit), and I feel the advice I get from Dr Derek and his staff is great/detailed (I am a physician myself so I like to know details). My son always comes back out to me excited and smiling. There's a small waiting room with glass walls where they had me sit during his very first appointment at age 3 so that he could visually see me if he turned around (so he's feel comfortable even though I wasn't sitting next to him during the appointment), and since then they've taken him in on his own while I or his dad wait for him outside (he's now 5). We've only had great experiences there and are so happy to have found someone geared so well toward kids! read more

I never write reviews but felt compelled to share about the incredible level of care that the DC Pediatric Smiles team showed toward my daughter. I noticed an abscess on my daughter's gum at night and called the office to leave a message. Dr. Blank called me back immediately around 9pm, and was able to fit her in first thing next morning for a tooth extraction. My daughter was comfortable to go right in and get the procedure done and I can't believe how calm she seemed getting her TOOTH PULLED OUT of her mouth! This team turned what could have been a traumatic dental emergency into what seems to be a pretty casual and uneventful experience for my daughter! I am so grateful I could honestly cry. read more

It's very rare for my teenage son to give feedback on his doctors and dentists but this time he actually expressed how he liked Dr. Blank and his staff. All of the ladies were very nice and pleasant. Dr. Blank came and introduced himself and explained how the first visit is usually longer as they explain the process and demonstrate how to properly brush in order to achieve the end results. I really can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Blank and his staff at DC Pediatric Smiles. I mean they really exceeded my expectations. This was my 2 year olds first visit and she loved it and that's thanks to the fact that he's so good with kids! I must commend Dr. Blank for putting together such a wonderful staff.
