Bad Pierogies! I bought a pound of pierogies from the deli, and I felt sick after eating them. I don't think they keep them hot enough to have meat on the inside. And the outside was not fresh, it was turning a weird kind of tan and getting hard. In other words , they were old pierogies that had gone bad and should not have been sold. I'm going to go to Chicago and get some really good pierogies at Andy 's deli on Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago. read more

I am so glad we have this Polish store between Fox Lake, Gurnee, Grayslake, and Round Lake. It is a very small store but has everything we needed. Service was solid. Flaki (beef tripe) soup is great as always, very tasty! I, also, always get Sałatka jarzynowa (vegetable salad) since I am too lazy to make my own They sell Inka (chicory) drink, a very delicious substitute for coffee. I have noticed they have deli meats without preservatives. We bought some Kabanosy (thin long sausage), which was really good with their 7-grain rye bread and some (krolewiecki?) cheese. And I never leave any Polish store without my favorite Dr. Oetker galaretka (jello). Next time I'll have to try their herring. read more

I love this place, unfortunately I live in Antioch and they are in round lake so I do not get there nearly as often. I love their potato pancakes and their homemade sausage absolutely delicious. Same place as you pay for the crap in the big box stores and twice as good. wish I had more time that I could get out to these. guys read more

Real good, authentic Polish food. The sausage selection is awesome along with the deli. They do have some hot food to go, which I have not tried. But the unfortunate thing is they quit making their own pierogies, but they do still have a good selection of different frozen ones. read more

So..I stopped in to grab something for a quick lunch. The gentleman at the counter was very nice to make a plate from the hot item case that was ready and warm. The picture of my plate looks a little disarray as I did drop it..after I left store. So glad he put plastic wrap around my container it kept the food in the styrofoam box, I lost nothing and enjoyed everything. The items in my picture are a chicken cutlet, some pureed beets some saurkraut and a broccoli ham cheese pierogi it, the beef stew which was beef mushrooms was so delicious and creamy it was on top of mashed potatoes. The beets were great, sauerkraut so tangy and flavorful the pierogi light and tasty. The hot case in this store is gonna be my go to when in area for a satisfying homemade delightful ready made lunch. The gentleman showed me the cooler where they keep these homemade products cold and ready to grab for take home. Also looked around a bit they have many things to offer homemade sweets, pierogies, breads, sausages, salamis, hard to find items imported from Poland. This review is based entirely on customer service, as we haven't yet had an opportunity to try the pierogi we purchased tonight. Ania's advertises that they close at 8:00 p.m. We walked in the door at 7:44. I know we were cutting it close but we just planned to grab a couple of things and were in the area. When we walked in, we weren't greeted warmly or welcomed -- we were asked, "Do you plan to pay with credit card or cash? Because we close in five minutes." Rather than arguing the point -- my phone clearly said 7:44 -- we said we were paying with a credit card because we could see that she was counting out the cash drawer. We browsed for just a few minutes, grabbing two bags of pierogi, a jar of kraut, and a loaf of bread. While we were still grabbing those things, the woman at the counter asked, "Are you planning to get anything from the deli counter?" We had been considering it but it was pretty clear they wanted to close that down early too. We paid and left - we were back in the car by 7:52, eight minutes before they were scheduled to close. Look, I've worked retail. I know you want to go home. But you close at 8:00, not at 7:50. Don't make people feel unwelcome when you're clearly still open with the door unlocked and lights on during your posted hours. I'll update the review after we try the pierogi. I hope it makes up for the poor attitude and service. read more

They have an excellent tea and jam selection at excellent prices. 99 cents for a jar of Strawberry Rhubarb jam! The staff is so nice and helpful. A small Polish Deli with a good selection of Polish and European goods. They have a large selection of pierogies, some are made in house and others are of the prepackaged frozen variety. Their jam and jelly section is decent and they also carry a lot of different syrups. Their prices seem reasonable, however a bit higher than stores such as Garden Fresh Market which is across the street. I'm all about supporting small local businesses and I saw a few items that I will pick up next time, Paprika flavored chips are definitely on my list. The fresh Polish rye bread I bought was very good. I just wish they had a larger selection of products in general. I was looking to buy some Polish beer but they do not sell alcoholic beverages. I think their Lake Zurich location does, though. Sadly, I did not feel very welcome, as nobody greeted me as I walked in. I will stop by again, though, maybe it was just a bad day. read more

Pretty tasty foods. The meat blend in the perogis are especially remarkable. The Ukrainian style beet soup was good as well. I took off a star because the loaf of sour dough I took tasted old. read more

I was looking for a new place to try in the Round Lake/Grayslake area and I found Ania's on Yelp. I don't know how many times I've driven by this strip mall and never been to this place, but I'm likely to return. I ordered a sandwich called the Kraków Delight, which contained Kraków sausage, morski cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mustard. It truly was a delight...it was a good portion and it tasted very fresh. While waiting for the sandwich to be made, I saw there was a special on some type of pastry that was 2 for a dollar. The pastries were fresh bread filled with a blueberry jelly. I intended on having them for dessert, but I only made it through one. This whole meal cost $6.60...I've never been completely stuffed on food for so little money before. You gotta check this place out! read more

It was very crowded today, and they were already out of paczkis. I know better. Have to go right when they open. I got some pastries, instead. The cherry danish was scraped on the outside edge of the bag, and I got jelly all over myself. Slightly annoying. I spent $30 for three containers of pierogi, sour kraut, kolachki, pastries, and rye bread. I wish I knew Polish so that I could order some of the other deli items. Very reasonable for the quality of the food, but the line was all the way through the store, and moving slow. Old style Polish Deli. Nice selection of goods both frozen and fresh. Good bread products. Home made Pierogis and soup also in frozen section. They offer fresh hot meals with various menu items; sausage and kraut, pierogis sometimes pork tenderloin or meatloaf. It's pretty good to bring home as a hot supper. My favorite offering are their fresh made sandwiches, both the turkey and polish ham. They make em big enough for 2 people. Very fresh ingredients and pickles. They prefer you order by the number on the menu. They also have baked goods and pastries. Luncheon meats are good, some exotic for our Midwest tastes but good. Best advice get there before 11 or so as it gets really busy and the fresh foods go fast. read more

My first and last trip to Ania's in Round Lake Beach. Unless you speak Polish, which I do not, I cannot say that the service was very good. Clerks were rude and impatient. They offer only one fresh pierogi and soup per day. You can buy pierogis, which are thrown in plastic bags and frozen. Selection of prepared dishes was limited. Polish speaking customers are treated much better as was proven today. I will return to Algonquin next year for my Easter shopping. read more

We used to go to the Lake Zurich store twice a week. This was my first experience in the Round Lake Beach location. The food is excellent, better even than the Lake Zurich store. I highly recommend this place. read more
